Thanks for sharing your stories and experience. I am Korean (born and raised as one) but have been living a good chunk of my adult life in Scandinavia. Although I get where this “Korean” bluntness comes from, I still often find it pretty rude and sometimes ignorant. It hits harder when I visit my family in Korea with my partner who is Swedish, first-hand witnessing him struggling to deal/cope with Korean “honesty”.
As you mentioned, I also understand it’s the two sides of the same coin stuff that this honesty can be wholesale in many other occasions and makes Korean Korean but at the same time it contributes to the dark side of many things in Korea. It does not mean, however, that you just accept the negative part just because “it is what it is” but rather shall consciously and collectively make efforts to improve and overcome which it has started already imo especially within the younger generation.
I believe the more you talk about it and discuss with people, highly possibly the better comes around easily. For that, I reckon your content adds your 2 cents to that newer/more positive discourse to grow further. Xx,

I think that is so interesting, because as a European (German) I feel like WE are brutally honest. And Koreans are even more honest? can't believe it lol

    • @juliab3326
      @juliab3326 5 месяцев назад

@@ClaireEmiliaSweet. I can tell you that there are MANY cultures more "honest" than the straightforward Germans. Look at Eastern Europe or almost all of Asia. Or even people from the Netherlands.
But these cultures are more often rude and insulting instead of honest because they're unfamiliar with the concept of boundaries. Asking them to give their opinion without insulting your entire family line doesn't end well. I tried, believe me.

Every person I know that goes to Korea and lives in there for a certain amount of time starts to feel insecure about things they weren’t before (especially about their bodies), ‘cause in that country all that they’ll take care about is how you look, they literally don’t care first about if you’re a good person, if you’re pretty/handsome, they automatically praises you and treats you well, I mean not every single person but in general that’s how it is.

    • @erynlotter5278

I think Korea is very interesting country and looks like a beautiful one as well but i personally wouldn't move there partially cause I am very insecure and the culture of having such a focus on your physical appearance would take a mental toll on me and personally I don't think I would flourish there at all. However am happy for the people which enjoy it there and sorry for the people who came back with insecurities.

Talking about Korea or Asian beauty standards is bad
But remembers all beauty standards aroybd the worlds pushing women & ppl get insecure, feel left behind, feel unbeautiful unaxlcctrarive thats why theyre become obssesion with looks & find it in makeup or surgery to fit on social life & beauty standards trend is NOT RIGHT IN EVERYWHERE, NOTJUST IN KOREA OR ASIA.

love the aesthetic style of your videos! as many people commented before: its such a good thing to be open about insecurities. also enjoyed your honesty about the treatment you did for your hairline. but i feel like this shows how far we are from really accepting ourselves. i mean it is your body, your choice and a way of self-determination to do cosmetic procedures/plastic surgery or whatever. but i am hoping for a time, where we don't need to go trough painful, expensive or even dangerous interventions to be happy with ourselves. you seem like a such a nice person and that's what really makes you beautiful

Sissel I just want to say that your videos are always so calming and reassuring ❤ These topics about body image are so important to talk about. Its also so funny to me that I started following you way back because I saw you and just thought „oh my god shes so incredibly gorgeous im so jealous“ and I know that everyone is insecure about things but I was surprised to see someone so beautiful be insecure as well. I wouldnt wish it on anyone of course, because everyone should be able to love themselves inside and out but its also weirdly comforting to know that everyone struggles with the same issues in some way or another!

I think what you said is true. The toxicity of “beauty” is around the world, not just South Korea. I have learned through the years, that what is considered the maximum beauty around the world, is a “white woman”. But even within white Women, many of them are discriminated if they don’t meet a specific standard. My issues with South Korean beauty standards are the encouragement of plastic surgery among the youth, that should not even be legal. The fact that many Kpop companies force children into getting surgery is outrageous. But what bothers me the most is the “unrealistic” beauty standards in their culture. I am still terrified of that popular surgery they do where people are getting a portion of their heads filed. So scary, so scary.

❤Yes and No! I somewhat agree but only under extreme circumstances, such as a scar on a face or people have had an accident or having something missing then I agree but not normally! These surgical places feed into people's insecurities when there is nothing wrong with them! They just want to make money! Obviously, if it is something that is an extreme insecurity such as a small nose or small chest, maybe! By no means you don't need to change yourselves! We are all human and unique and beautiful in different ways!❤

I also think it is very important to learn how to communicate to others that we find certain comments hurtful :) If we never learn how to “defend” ourselves&others and explain that we do not want to normalise negative comments in a conversation, things are never going to change. I think oftentimes we just grew up thinking that “it’s normal” to comment on somebody else’s appearance and do it without thinking, but to me I know every time I had a friend that constantly pointed out what they thought to be flaws in the way I look, I never felt that friendship was “real” or that I could trust that person in a way. I am way happier now that I have learned how to communicate my boundaries on certain things, and I always make sure when I meet someone to talk about literally… the way we talk about bodies! I ultimately want people to feel safe with me and not have to worry about the way I look, and to this day I couldn’t find one single flaw in my friend’s appearances 💘 definitely these are conversations that need to keep happening for things to really change! thank you for opening up about your own struggles 🫂

I had my eyebrows micro bladed a few years ago (I grew up in the 90’s where it was on trend to have super skinny eyebrows. After over plucking them as a teenager they never grew back 🙊)
Getting the micro blading done was really strange, but so so amazing. They used the same technique that you had and honestly it felt wonderful having eyebrows again! The quality was so good and looked so real. Even though it’s a bit expensive, I’m saving to have it done again as it’s so worth it and lasts a while

Sissel, I can so relate to this. I’m Korean origin but was born in Iran and then my parents moved to Australia. I have a wide forehead but was told by family that it was my best feature. To be honest I was never teased or bullied because of it and I’m sad for the young Sissel who was. However, I had the same issue of having really fine baby hair(it came from my father’s side of the family lol). I always had a fringe ( Americans call them bangs) to cover my forehead. However, it did make me very self conscious and through my teens, twenties and even thirties I thought of having hair transplant to fill and reduce the size of my forehead. I’m now 43, and more comfortable in my skin but there are still some of those days where I won’t take photos. You look great, before and after! Just know, somewhere, someone has the same feelings and outlook as yourself and at the end of the day, if you’re happy, then be happy!

I think it is very important to be able to express ourselves in a critical way towards our and other cultures too. I think at this point I have not heard one person of any country telling me that comments on how we look don’t affect us negatively. It’s very sad we are made to feel insecure about how we are, just because we don’t fit the characteristics of bodies that are in trend in a specific moment, I dream of the time we can cherish diversity and stop desiring to look like a copy of each other 💔 I also think we do not understand that we don’t get negative comments specifically bc one part of our body looks wrong, as as soon as we are going to change that, people are going to point at something else that is not “right” about us. I think the biggest flaw is to look at others thinking they have flaws! And hopefully once we stop making these negative comments towards each other we can really heal and have healthy relationships with our bodies. Part of me is sad that you got made feel as if your forehead is not good enough, because I remember when I started watching your videos I immediately thought your forehead was so beautiful! But also honestly I cannot spot the difference after the tattoo (lol), and I am glad it is something that will make you feel better about yourself 🫂💗

I also have the same insecurity problem with forehead and thin hair, i'm looking foward on getting the hair line microbladed/tattooed slightly and in a very natural way to make both my hair look fuller and forehead look smaller. It fades out after some years like microbladed brows and it's still possible to get them removed so it's not as permanent as a surgery. Idk if that helps you knowing that this is possible to make.
Edit: nevermind you had the same idea lmao

I loved this vlog, it felt super real. Thank you for sharing all this and encourage us to live more freely and treat ourselves better. You're a huge inspiration and a super positive role model for people on the internet! I gotta say that I've always thought you're extremely pretty, and I even got jealous of your height (I'm sooo sorryyy) because I'm barely 157 cm lol And in my country, even though most people are short, they always- and I really mean ALWAYS- point out your height. It constantly made me feel super bad about myself, but I'm working on it, slowly coming to terms with the way I look and be thankful 💚💚
I'm so glad you feel better with that change you made and it makes you feel more confident.
Let's continue to accept ourselves and create an environment where we feel safe and loved 💚💚
I'm sending you lots of love! 💚💚

Catalina, that’s so sweet of you. I’ve always been so envious of my friends was school who was your height! I always wanted to feel “small and cute”, and I didn’t feel like that. It took so much work, and now my posture suffers from always trying to make myself shorter. The grass is always greener on the other side it seems, but I hope we can continue to encourage each other to just LOVE this beautiful temple we are in and honor its perfection from birth 💚

Girl, I have super thin/limp hair as well thanks to my ancestry and I swear by rosemary oil. Put some in your shampoo or mix with a carrier oil as a hair/root mask before washing. It’s supposed to work better than prescription hair thickeners and over time it does help!

  • @CherryJuli

I also have extremely thin hair. For over two years I’ve been wearing tape extensions and I wished I would’ve thought about it sooner. I do them myself because it’s really easy. To cover a big forehead bangs are always the go-to option. Also, they’re really trendy right now.

Wow, so it’s like microblading on the scalp, right? I have super fine hair too, and I can honestly say having my brows microbladed has made me so happy. Ditto laser on ultra dark body hair. Now I’m in my 30’s, I think we should do what makes us feel good, whether that’s what others may think is conforming to beauty standards or not. You look amazing and hope it heals well!

How sweet can one sound while speaking German??? It's my mother language haha and I've never heard someone speak german in such a cute way! This video really was an eye opener, I love how openly you talk about it and I find different beauty standards around the world so interesting anyways. I just love to learn more about different cultures and backgrounds, so thank you a lot for this insight 🤍🤍🤍 Update: I'm shocked at your modeling experience and totally get why you don't want to be part in this (mostly sick/sickening) industry.. Oh and also, as long as someone decides to have anything 'done' because they feel like they really want it and it's not because of the influence of others, I would always recommend to do it, especially when it's not a major surgical procedure where lots could go wrong. I'm proud of you to realize what really bothered you and decide what's the best for you. It really looks so good too! 🤍

Years passed and I've learnt to love and take care of my body, and yet this little thing is still making me feel sooo self-conscious... and like you I thought "why not, just for once, I can not give myself a little push and just.. do it!".

Because guess what, I have same problem. :D But I´m still super fascinated by tons of things, like similar hair, eye color, acne problems, body insecurities (I´m still dealing with basics), also taste for fashion! :D (literally I showed my friend your IG, and she was like ´girl, this is so your style´. But the biggest thing for me is, that even after 5 years, when we naturally are changing, I still feel super closed to your thoughts. Like, I´m dealing with same things, having similar opinions. I´m just glad for you and for being my role model.
