@@charliethorne Hey now let's go easy on banjos! (that's what I play actually lol you can search steven moore banjo and you'll find my stuff out there)
@@annabagwell2961 this particular guitars intonation was noticeably off compared to each of the others. Luckily that’s an easy fix but it as extremely off putting to me!
I keep coming back to this video because of the unique way you played georgia on my mind! I need a video of you just playing this or something on spotify!
That was a fantastic video, I can't imagine the editing work, well done dude. My favorite was the dogeared ES-330, until you whipped out that Cherry ES-295 at the end, such a sweet tone for that song.
I was thinking the same when I first started playing guitar. You know, all the heroes played them, and I though there must be something magical about them. When I first picked up a Les Paul Standard, and an SG, I though, this feels like any other guitar, It was a nice guitar, but nothing special about it. I was surprised, and then I realized, the real magic is in your head and your fingers. You can't buy that.
if it makes you feel any better, i wanted a gibson for a long time, and when i finally got my hands on one, i was underwhelmed. it's a kalamazoo made sg with p-90's, the real deal, and i still prefer playing on my epiphone 58 v. that sg feels... wrong, somehow. it sounds ok, it plays ok, it never stayed in tunes until i changed the tuners, the neck is thin and narrow like a banjo, and it doesn't really have the bite you'd expect from p-90's. it's killer to play country and jazz, but i bought it to play rock and roll and some blues. it was not worth the grand i dropped on it by far. meanwhile, my v is going on its 13th year with me and she's still going strong. not bad for a guitar that cost me 400€. that said, you really want to play on a gibson? go to a music store. pretend you're in the market for a "goal guitar", the kind you save up months for, and ask to try out whatever strikes your fancy. maybe like me you'll have decent surprises (i used to hate flying v's, thinking they were only for show offs, until i got my hands on one and understood how comfy those things really were). keep going, and good luck. rock on.
This was such an interesting video for getting a direct, sequential comparison of how each model, and subsequently how each guitar in each model sounded in comparison to the last. As always, love the playing on this tune. Great video! Couldn’t pick a favourite guitar, but generally the SG’s and Explorers probably had my favourite tones, though there’s something to be said for the Les Paul’s as well.
Hmmm. Firebirds and Explorers have a good jazz tone. I picked those ones sight unseen as having a really nice smooth clean tone. Imagine turning up to your lounge gig with one. Would be so funny.
@@maraviyoso8473 yeah I would expect so. In the interim bought myself a 335 and it is a different beast to my old 175; but it's also a great jazz guitar. The construction does affect feel and sustain for sure, but the actual sound is probably broadly similar, depending what strings you have.
Nicely done, Samurai; the best way to hear the differences of every style of Gibson guitar! ...As far as favorite axe, that's a to answer. I noticed you didn't use the neck pickup on all the axes as a comparison tool but I have to say for warmth/slight low end (which I prefer), the Les Paul HP Standard at 1:14 & the Sunburst ES335(?) at 1:27 sounded the best as far as SOUND goes...As far as LOOKS (and did sound awsum), is the axe you played last-the red ES with dog-eared P90s. I'd love to have that!...Also, at 1:07, you play an SG Standard then go to that Les Paul HP Standard. I love how they are almost identical sounding...Do more vids like this at Gretch, Fender, Martin, etc!...
I could single out ANY of the guitars, but there's one which hasn't been mentioned that much: the Les Paul DC Special at @1:56. Even if it hasn't a real highlight, I can HEAR that vibrating tone, not as compressed as many others on this video, which reminds me how much I love those LP Jrs or Special DCs.
Really shocked at how much I loved the tone on the explorer. I always enjoyed them for hard rock and metal, had no idea the timbre would be so great for the jazzy stuff too!
I absolutely love you! Please make a comparison video for different electric guitars, and maybe a basics on how different electric guitars sound and work! :D
Man the blue firebird! I loved that Man! Great video as per usual. Love you man. Keep up the Beautiful and amazing content and stay true to you! Love you dude.

most obvious tone change!
Tuning more than anything. So much sharper than the rest. But also tonally brighter

Steven Moore 😂
ES-295 and the Blue ES-345 for me
samuraiguitarist is that 295 the closest thing to your dream guitar?
samuraiguitarist had to be a hollowbody.....
GRETSCH FANBOI STATUS CONFIRMED.
samuraiguitarist shocker 😉
Rockabilly Rambler who isn't a gretsch fanboy, let's be honest
Unfortunately not your dream guitar:(
It's amazing how consistent the sound was. I was shocked at how thin and bright
all the SG's sounded though.
Of all the guitars those ones stood out as the most different, especially the matte finished ones
I know right!
The SG’s are the most unique of the Gibson line to me
thats why i like sgs, single coil quality cleans with humbucker quality distortion
That was pretty amazing. I'll always be in love with the ES-175 thanks to Steve Howe =P

Damn this must have taken an insane amount of time editing. Great video!
Tuning 30 some guitars is very time consuming. Thanks for watching!
samuraiguitarist Thanks for taking the effort to create a truly great video!
They should have paid you to make the video there, if for nothing else, just tuning all their guitars! Lol.
That bourbon burst SG had such a unique tone. Impressive editing and even more impressive playing.
Bless!
God, thank you! It stood out so! I'm investing! It sounded like rebellion in the best possible way

The first SG amazed me
Interesting! That one definitely has the most unique tone
It really does yeah :)
So nice
gives me some strat vibe
but the high performance sg after that sounds quite awful to me
2:30 gave me Christmas vibes for some reason
by far my favourite :)

That sg at the beginning
All of the semi-hollows sound amazing.
This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard
please to a tutorial of this version of "Georgia on my mind"
is this a ray charles song?
Am I the only one that is looking every time the guitar changes to see if I noticed which one is gone?
No, I was waiting for the moment he would be playing the Red explorer on the right (his left) xD
i was doing that too haha
Semper Fi no,i dont think so
Yes
Same for me XD
can you do a tutorial on how you play the song "georgia on my mind" . answer me please😭

oof
First learn the original Georgia on My Mind tab. It’s what he’s playing, he’s just playing it much faster.

Interesting how the 50th aniversary V sounds airy, closer to the ES's then to most of other solid bodies
Very useful for composers who want to get used to/understand the gibson's sound! Thank yoh very much!!
2:24 The tone of tha first SG note sounds nearly identical to the opening note of Dream On
When you played that big box at 1:47 your tone seemed so smooth and luxurious. Probably a larger scale length and carved spruce top.
The mental image of him stopping, getting up for a new guitar, and the continuing as it nothing happened.
*and I'm just here, sitting and hoping someday I could play on a Gibson guitar* 😢

The blue semi-Hollow for the sound (ES-345 Pelham Blue Plaintop), all black Les Paul for the look (Les Paul Ebony Classic)
Thank you for this video its so simple and helpful you showed me so many things I did not know
