      That's an excellent observation. I think Bill Burr is right about the WNBA...
      These two women should save the WNBA but the women who are there are paid proportionately to the revenue they generate.
      I am thrilled Caitlyn was born female to skip that heated argument. But, she is still launching 3's from the LOGO!!

      @@Geneknowshoops But even if it was towards VL, there is still a difference when you say or show something for 2 seconds during the match (when going for a break), and when after the match you follow a player of the losing team for half a minute to demonstrate your superiority (look, I'm the one with the ring). Of course, it made no sense to turn it into a nationwide scandal, but it makes me laugh to repeat that CK did the same thing.

    Hopefully the WNBA will not screw this up. They got a great rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese that they can market as the WNBA's version of Magic and Bird, and finally get people to care about the WNBA. Ironically it was the Bird and Magic rivalry that saved the nba in the early 80s.

    I don't think Caitlin's current popularity will transfer to the WNBA. I love all college basketball and the current womens' stars have added to the fun of watching the college games. Womens' pro ball is boring, Caitlin is one person, and one person isn't going to change how the rest play. I also don't find mens' proball all that exciting, but it is many levels above womens' just because of the speed and power and shooting capability of the men.

    Clark is no doubt a unique and phenomenal talent, but I’m not convinced that the interest in her will carry over to the WNBA. I could be wrong, but I just don’t expect the fans that enjoy and care about women’s NCAA basketball to automatically start watching WNBA when Clark moves to the league. The college game is a lot of fun, and has its own atmosphere and rivals and the WNBA can’t replicate.

    not sure the wnba is going to be able to capitalize on her popularity, the wnba is a much smaller platform, idk maybe the wnba needs to do a show on netflix like F1's drive to survive, another huge issue is actually the pay, she may be a star but she's not going to get paid like one, idk if there's a women's professional basketball league outside the US that could pay more than the wnba but it would be a huge blow if she went elsewhere

    So, she could double the ratings? So 2 people care? Ok. Joking aside. She will only play for her team against the teams on the schedule. Exactly how does this help all the other teams not playing her team? You need 15-20 of her to move the needle. What you will end up in ratings is ....."......."............." with her being the " and everything else the ..... I think you are wrong. It helps and they need help, but she doesn't change it on her own. The salary is not THAT BAD. It is fair based on what the product creates in revenue. If she can raise the ratings the $102K and change will rise in the future.
    Tiger moved the needle in Golf. Reason was, he played almost everybody everytime he played. You couldn't NOT move the needle.

    I think the WNBA is starting to realize that they don’t need to beat the men’s league at their own game. Men & women are just different, that’s not derogatory to either sex, I see it as just a fact. Clark is so popular not just because of how good she is, she’s popular because she’s providing an alternative to men’s stars like Giannis or Zion. I want to reiterate that I am not dissing the men’s league, I love watching the men’s league (go Nets). What I am saying is that the men’s league is almost an entirely different game from the WNBA, & they are starting to realize this. You can even see the WNBA players are starting to utilize the 3 point line more, as seen with the Ionescu/Curry competition. Sure, Steph won by a small margin, but Steph is easily the best shooter ever (by a ridiculously wide margin) by men or women’s standards. For the first time, people are starting to feel excited for both leagues; loving the NBA & loving the WNBA are not mutually exclusive

    The interest will be there because of her initially but you gotta have high level of play, then rivalries. Therefore, Clark ain’t saving the WNBA. Remember, it’s not like she will be playing against each team every game🤫😜

      I agree one player isn’t gonna change the whole wnba if more people watch it’s gonna be to watch the team she’s on not the others,a lot more people watch women’s college because of the schools there playing for all the other WNBA players sound like there against Clark but we’ll see how it turns out

  • @rafaborawski5281
    @rafaborawski5281 5 месяцев назад

    I gave it a thumbs up, but this analogy is far-fetched for two reasons. Caitlin Clark didn't need Angel Reese to build her own popularity or the hype surrounding women's college basketball in general, so as you can see, such opposition does not need to be necessary. Secondly, Angel Reese's sporting class - with all due respect - is not at the same level as CC, as evidenced by the positioning of the LSU basketball player in this year's draft predictions (only the second five, and perhaps that is why she has not decided whether she will take participation in the recruitment this year). Therefore, while I have no doubt that Clark will become a WNBA star quite quickly, I am not sure whether Reese will ever become one (there is no shortage of strong, good-moving WNBA basketball players, and these are Reese's greatest advantages). In my opinion, Aaliyah Edwards has more potential for sports than Reese.

    • @Geneknowshoops
      @Geneknowshoops  5 месяцев назад +1

      I understand your point. I don’t think talent wise they are on the same level but I believe attention wise they are. The hate that people have for Reese will drive people to the sport just to hate on her.

    A: I was 17 when Magic came to the NBA and 18 when Bird joined a year later. Their excitement had zero to do with race.
    B: the ABA/NBA merger was at least as important in saving the NBA

    • @bbspeaks6260
      @bbspeaks6260 5 месяцев назад

      I agree that their excitement had little to do with race because neither one of them cared about it. and they were the best examples of greatness focusing on greatness as opposed to the distractions, but race was indeed a hot topic of the NBA at the time. It was well known that many (not all) but many white fans were Larry Bird fans and many black fans were in Magics corner. The media coined Larry Bird the "great white savior" (which he personally shunned) and the NBA and CBS highlighted that rivalry between those two and the Lakers/Celtics to build the excitement in the league. No doubt this 1-2 punch storyline escalated the popularity of the NBA. If the WBNA was smart they've follow that pattern just like this video highlights.

    • @user-fy2wl6un4f
      @user-fy2wl6un4f 5 месяцев назад

      No doubt the media played the card and benefited from it. Unfortunately, it was a boost for the game - which had lost its luster. Look at how many otherwise haters (in different races) of the sport tuned in for Magic & Bird as they are for NCAA Women's. The talent was there, but it takes a special situation to grab channel suffers. Katlin, Angel and others did that with their dynamic playing on the court.
