Just learned a technique, no need for a cardboard at 2:47. You just lean the motorcycle on the right side for 10 seconds, but really lean, and then it empties the filter completely. After that you can just unscrew the filter, no need for cardboard or anything, and not a one drop from the filter comes out. Tried already twice, since oil change on track is every 4 days.

Only thing I would say to mention or add to the description section of the video is where the oil should be leveled off at inside of the sight glass by taking a look at the two notches on the outside metal rim of the site glass to measure depth of oil inside tank. Just did this two days ago! Wasn’t bad at all at 4600 miles on my 19 ZX6R. I went with 10w40 amsoil though and same with the K&N filter. Be careful to not tighten too hard, it says something about that in the manual
typically a lot of filters, cars or bikes, hand tighten is pretty set already depending on the individuals strength but yea it’s good to go factory recommend torque settings which is not too tight!
I wonder why everyone warms up their engine before they change their oil. The owners manual doesn't say to do that. It only says to do that if you are checking oil level. It doesn't seem to make it flow faster either.
It does a few things. First, it moves the sediment/particles into the oil. This helps drain the system more effectively by suspending the particles in the fluid. It all flows out the drain rather than sitting at the bottom of the oil pan. Second, hot oil has a lower viscosity and flows out of the engine more quickly and more thoroughly than cold oil. You want to get ALL the old oil out and replace with new oil. Heat helps this process.
My notes: I was told by the dealership don't use synthetic @5:28 min. when I'd purchased my 2023 ZX-6R Aug. 19, 2022 & why do you shake the Oil @ 5:17 min., 5:53 min. 6:15 min. before adding into the oil sump? NINJA Numbers to recall: 1. 13 Ft. lbs. Of torque on Oil Filter replacement 2. 21 Ft. lbs. Of torque on the Oil drain & gasket. 3. 3.3 quarts of oil
So first break in service oil change i used regular conventional oil, helps to let the seals properly break in or whatnot, don’t know the exact technical details, and then 2nd oil change i used semi-synthetic and then the next and all future , full synthetic for optimal longevity
shaking the oil is just a force of habit for any liquids i handle even if it doesn’t settle i just give it a shake in case something for some reason did settle
Thanks! I was thumbing through my 2021 manual and couldn't find instructions or capacity anywhere; it just said "recommended to be changed by a qualified Kawasaki dealer", which is bullshit. Granted, I only had a day back home and didn't scour every page in the book.
I've never had that much oil drain from my filter when I've changed it. The last time I warmed my up to change the oil my drain plug was so hot you couldn't touch like that 🤣😂
you’re absolutely right! it does go for 3.4, i only showed adding 3 in the oil resoivoir, but i accounted for the .4 in between adding a bit into the new filter before reinstalling and also topped off a bit after checking the oil level window! (off camera)
I do plan on doing a little refresh so i’ll take a look to see if I can add in coolant flush to the list, no promises tho! been busy with work lately but hopefully I can whip something up in the next month or so for you. Next video is going to be a steering stabilizer for the bike
Socket on drain plug is 17. You don’t need a removal tool. If your filter won’t budge with normal force pound a screwdriver all the way through the side of the filter and turn. This is my go-to method and works great.
yea i tried to use a universal adjustable filter wrench tool but it didn’t fit in the crevice / wasn’t gripping tight enough so i ended up using channel pliers to just pinch/crush and then twist to loosen since i wouldn’t need that one. the ol screwdriver thru and twist method works as well but sometimes can be messy or depending on type of filter housing can damage maybe a input pipe so becareful of how deep or where you puncture the screwdriver through!
A bit is good enough. You want to get the filter pre soaking is all, adding too much is likely to cause spillage because of the angle it sits at. Then check oil level after first trip as well to see if it needs too be topped off.
Hi Rahul! It’s recommended for engine break in to use conventional oil or semi synthetic as conventional oils will allow the engine and seals to break in more efficiently. After the 1000 mile service i switched to full synthetic .
You could just use the one that came on the bike, but if you lost or don't have one for some reason I *think* it is 12mm. I am not 100% certain, but a quick search on google should confirm the size. Cheers!

the stock/factory oil filter doesn’t have a nut , the one with a nut is after market which would depend on what brand you get! otherwise a smaller universal adjustable oil filter wrench should work, however i had trouble with it fitting in the crevice

i warmed up the bike just enough and let it cool down for 5-10 mins while i gathered all the tools and oil

they were adjustable width, prolly opens up to 4inches or so
I will never not install an oil filtered that doesn't have a nut bolted on ever again. That makes oil filter removal 100x easier.

Yea, i did a semi synthetic change at 600 and then a full synthetic at 1000
