Thanks for sharing your skills with all of us. I really enjoy the way you explain why and how you do the layout. This small project today was great. Something closer to what I could do. Thanks again for your Videos.
The way you spaced the joists with blocks is interesting. I've never seen that before. All the decks I've made have used those metal hangars and I hate them.
Nice to see your videos overseas, from Barcelona, just love the way you work the wood. Hope you enjoyed the beer, if you never come to Barcelona , you have a few paid!

Good job lad. Although here in Ireland we have to leave a gap cuz there's no way in hell them bastards a shrinking with the pissin rain we get they only swell here.
We leave a gap only on composite decking cause it expands!!!in heat*** didnt know wood shrinks! good tip! always thought wood expands because of dampness. hmmm lot to think about good learning!!!
I'm the same way I live in a shity house because I don't care but I tile amazing houses and build incredible bathrooms but I'm never going to pay 20 k for a bathroom
@@ThisAccountIsNeverUsed i do full renos in 2 weeks 6 weeks planing and materials. I spent 19 days straight going out , pc games 5 day snowboarding trip. I will never pay 100 a square meter for tiles for a house i am living in. i will do a reno when i move out. untill then its 1970 shitty tiles.
Can you comment on how acceptable this power joist block technique you use compares to ledgers and joist hangers? Your load is carried by nails and not by the beam. The triple beam is great on the post but the joists. I just don't get it.
In the south, with 70+% humidity most of the time, should leave gap or let wood acclimate outside for a month before hand. It swells. You guys have it easy. ha
As one that forgot how many deck he has built, I can not agree with you more about not gaping the deck planks. I use a special levering tool to make no gaps between the planks.
the gap in my opinion just allows water and debris to be able to go through or be pressure washed through and not get stuck in between the boards probably no real harm
Hi wonder if you could help, when building a deck do you work out dimensions first so if or when you install the railings you can get all the same spacing between the balasters, and if it's a existing deck where the railings end up several different sizes is it a case of going through the measurements in till you come up with a match for spacing, I know how to find the spacing of any given length but frying my brain to think i'd have to keep calculating every one time and again until I got a match or near as Damn it, I know I can add or take away the increments of say the balaster and space but this could still leave me short or to long for the opening or openings left e.g. stopping and starting at steps any dog legs in decking or if the decking as been built off a building at different increments to the width, help sorry for the essay, cheers
I looked at one yesterday, $319 for bare tool. I've got a ton of other Dewalt tools and batteries, but that price was too much for me. Already have 2 air framers.
Cruz ✝️. Thank You for letting use see you work on you nice house. 😇 May God Protect an Blessings!!! this Home an All human living in it.!!! Great work on you deck. 🍻
Good friend of mine shot a nail through his pointer finger knuckle and it came out his pinky knuckle. Looked gruesome as fuck but it happened so fast he was hardly in any pain. Getting the nail out is when his real pain came.
cut from both sides and plunge from both sides, theres no editing in the video haha just dont over cut and rip out the chunk clean it up with a knife or sawzall
You might want to add “lag bolts” to the ledger board before the 3-ply beam on the front of the deck pulls it away from the house when the soft earth beneath those cement pads sink from all the weight. Am I right? Or am I right? HE HE HE.
I only space boards out when using man made materials. Treated wood, smash em tight screw it off. I've had up to a 3/8" gap between boards after they've dried out.
Dude....mine always messes up. I got rid of it, got a 2nd one and it does it too. Mine just stops shooting. I got electrical cleaner and started cleaning it. Worked great for 2 or 3 days now nothing... Do you use the flex volt stuff? It's expensive but man it looks good
@@R2Mike I have the flex volt circular saw so I stocked up of flex volt batteries I'd recommend the saw and the batteries. The only job I've found the framing nailer to be non problematic would be building wooden fences but other than that I find it jamming constantly.
I love your videos out of curiosity where you use nails and not screws what determines screws or nails. Also I've watched every video, do you own your own company and how did you decide to work alone? I've never seen a bio or info on you just curious. Love the videos.
nails only for structural framing, since they have greater shear strength. Nails or screws for everything else, depending on many things- whether you are worried about it squeaking, ease of installation, whether you like the look, ease of disassembly.

The way you spaced the joists with blocks is interesting. I've never seen that before. All the decks I've made have used those metal hangars and I hate them.
hangers are better and usually code
squash blocks since its such a small span and not high off the ground and its his own house
Works for smaller deck, will still need joist hangers with a bigger load
great job on the deck👍. I also don't leave gaps on deck cause there's so much shrinking after
And where it’ll really show up in a couple years will be that miter.

I keep my boards tight too.

Def stack 'em tight. Shrinkage.
Amazing how much the decking shrinks. You can tell when people don't account for that. Thumbs up.
when ya got a small deck like crazy, keep your bushes trimmed to make it look bigger
No joist hangers or crowning your lumber ?
The beer comment did it for me. Thumbs up for the har work.
If no gap is needed what is with all the buckled decking boards that I have replaced?

Nice back yard
Congrats on the new to you house man, I am sure you will be reno-ing away as time and cash allow.
Outer levelness technical term 😂😂🙋♀️ I’ll remember that 😂😂
would it be wrong to use about half the nails seen here? typically shoot 1 nail per 2" of lumber so 2x6 gets 3 nails on each connection
You're not wrong, but he's not using joist hangers, so maybe he wanted a little extra insurance.
Did you flash your band board? Didn't see

Is DeWalt your power tool of choice?
how come you dont use joist hangers?
Because it was his own house and he knows his nail placement will last long enough
And because he added blocking next to joists to add strength and nailing surface. Hangars in this case are unnecessary
Great looking deck! Solid place for that BBQ now
Do the short pieces of 2×6 between each joice kinda work as brackets?
Joice is a fine woman !
warren michael I was calling joists joices and joists interchangeably until recently, now just joists
I was just giving him a hard time, i know i have spelled and used words wrong several times, i enjoy some of the smart azz comments it gets too !! LOL

Hi CF another YTber said that if u burn screws in near the edge of board it stops splitting. Is that correct?
Have you ever shot a nail into your hand?
A few times
Brutally honest, but you know the risks :D
I was thinking the same thing around 6:45 lol

cut from both sides and plunge from both sides, theres no editing in the video haha just dont over cut and rip out the chunk clean it up with a knife or sawzall
Plunge the back more so it hides the cut

is it normal to have small Deck's in colder climates?

Obviously not from the Depot.

why didn't you drop that triple beam and joist over? maybe you would have gotten better bearing on them patio slabs
Why dont you use an air framing gun? They shoot the nails more deep than the power one
