I have such an unusual history with this band. Out of my group of childhood friends, l definitely had the heaviest taste. But since l had no older siblings, relatives, or friends who loved hard rock/heavy metal, l had to discover everything on my own. Unlike Pete Pardo and his band of heavy metal fanatical friends, I only discovered metal bands when they actually received radio airplay. I only ever heard “Paranoid” and “Iron Man” on New York rock radio, so l never investigated their catalog in the late 1970s. I liked the songs, but knew nothing else by them. When Heaven and Hell came out, THAT’S the album that got me into this band. I heard the title track on the radio and was blown away by the main guitar riff, that bubbling bass line and Dio’s amazing vocals. The album will always hold a special place in my heart… and mind. I would say that this is when l discovered heavy metal; followed by Ozzy solo, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and then Metallica. I first saw Sabbath live in 1992, at the Beacon Theatre in NYC, on the Dehumanizer tour. It was such a great show. My only quibble with the show that bothered me was that it was only about an hour and forty-five minutes in length. Seeing Spinal Tap play a two hour and ten minute show, the same year, at the same venue, really spoiled me. Here’s my top ten: 10. Born Again (Crushingly heavy, but with poor production that always annoyed me.) 9. Black Sabbath (Classic debut that invented a new genre. Some stellar songs, but a tad too much “jamming.”) 8. Vol. 4 (More focused than the debut with some earth pummeling tunes.) 7. Master of Reality (l like this one a bit better than the followup, but not by that much.) 6. Dehumanizer (“After All,” “Computer God,” “Letters from Earth,” and “Too Late” all rule.) 5. Paranoid (Includes the so-called hits and sterling deep cuts like “Electric Funeral,” too.) 4. Mob Rules (Perhaps a more uniform - and heavier - album than its predecessor, with superb songs throughout.) 3. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (Sabbath go prog? Maybe, but it’s more like they’re branching out and experimenting. The title track simply crushes and l have a soft spot for the melodic “Spiral Architect” that ends the album in fine form.) 2. Heaven and Hell (“Neon Knights,” “Children of the Sea,” “Die Young” and the title track elevate this album to superior status to me.) 1. Sabotage (The bludgeoning one two punch of “Hole in the Sky” and “Symptom of the Universe” never fails to get me riled up! Heavy, proggy, angry and powerful… what a record. Love it.) Excellent job, gents. Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍎 Rock Out and Prog On! Your pal and mine, Disturbing the Dense, Dark, Doom with Davey Cretin from CRETIN CLASSICS.
The only time I got to see Black Sabbath was the Born Again tour and they were brilliant! I also loved Seventh Star when it came out and still do. For me, Tyr is the most Underrated Sabbath album. Great show! Cheers!

I think almost their records are excellent. I don’t love 13. Even so Never Say Die and Forbidden contain some cool moments. Air Dance is very beautiful. Interesting picks and thoughts. Not a big fan of the post ozzy era. I am always surprised that almost everybody seems to love The Dio era as well even though the music is totally different with a massive change in aesthetics. the riffing (!) and whole style (dio’s theatrical singing!) changed so much (also the lyrics!) that they should have changed the band name imho. Yet most sabbath fans like both, which is really a bummer to me. 😅 To me the most overrated sabbath album is paranoid even though war pigs maybe is their best song. My favorite is Sabotage, SBS is #2.
Can any Sabbath list be wrong? I respect everyone’s opinion on this band. I see the Martin years are getting lots of love throughout the years and being their at that time, they were so panned by my friends and enemies alike, it was sad for me at that time I loved them then as much as I love them today. So a big hearty salute to them folks who support the Martin years. 🤘. If I were to do a list I know Eternal Idol would be in the top 10 easily. And Mob Rules would be top 5. The rest of the top 10 would be the seventies albums except NSD. Only Sabbath album I can say I dislike is 13. To be perfectly fair.
I’m shocked than any fan could leave either one of Vol 4 or Paranoid completely out of their top 10 let alone top 5. Not just two of their very best albums but two of the greatest heavy metal albums in history but hey, each to their own. Both better albums than Mob Rules, I just don’t get the hype and it’s not even the real Black Sabbath but as I said, each to their own. I love the Born Again and Eternal Idol picks though guys
I think Sabbath have a few of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time...such a rich catalogue...anyway, thanks for the comment. What's your top 10?

Tony Eeomi? :)
Totally agree Vol 4 is most overrated.

I think almost their records are excellent.
I don’t love 13.
Even so Never Say Die and Forbidden contain some cool moments.
Air Dance is very beautiful.
Can’t Get Close Enough’s guitar riff is so heavy.

Thanks for watching Werner....always appreciated!
Can any Sabbath list be wrong? I respect everyone’s opinion on this band. I see the Martin years are getting lots of love throughout the years and being their at that time, they were so panned by my friends and enemies alike, it was sad for me at that time I loved them then as much as
I love them today.
Thanks for sharing your picks..Good stuff
Haha, dio sabbath is definately the real sabbath, just a different singer. I had paranoid at 1, vol 4 at 5, heaven and hell 6 and mob rules 7.
@@RockDaydreamNation 1. Vol 4

9. Born Again
10. External Idol
My top ten.
10. Vol 4.
9. Black Sabbath
8. Headless Cross
7. The Devil You Know (c’mon it’s a SABBATH album😂)
6. Tyr
5. Dehumanizer
4. Mob Rules
3. Master of Reality
2. Heaven and Hell
1. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Never understood all the Paranoid love. The song itself is God awful and with the exception of War Pigs and Iron Man, the album as a whole is pretty weak.
Excellent video me ode, well entertained for the hour. i must admit i don't play the ozzy sabbath albums much these days, 80s overkill me thinks. My 'era' favs atm are Vol 4 / mob rules / headless cross. I hope the rumours of the Tony Martin box set coming out this year is true, i have all the albums on vinyl any way but a remastering would be the DBs.
