I’ve been using CookUnity now for about three months, and my only complaint is they tease you with meals not available locally. Other than that I have rarely had a meal that I did not love. Most everything is very flavorful and always super fresh.

Thanks for watching, folks! A few notes I want to drop here. First is that I only mentioned one ice pack in the box but there was a second pack underneath the meals. Also, if you noticed the quality of the food pics is lower than in the past, it's because I'm using my old phone instead of my dslr. It's a time and space thing. Same reason I'm only using one light. A more professional setup physically gets in the way of things at the moment. Sorry about that! P.S. For everyone asking, yes, you can freeze the meals.

I live in TX. Tried fresh, factor, and trifecta before, and I didn't like them because I don't like the taste of their meals. I tried cooking units, and I love it so far. We get 12 meals all together between my husband and myself. We work all day from 5 a.m to 9 p.m. 6 days per week. we don't have much time to be doing every meal at home, and we carry lunch every day. So it is very convenient for us because we save money and time. We love the taste, and the portions are very decent. We pay around $160 each week, which is around $13 dollars per meal.

I think I left out which meal was the issue because some of these companies are pretty active on social media. So for privacy, I try not to give details that might cause them to try to find my customer info to message me or something lol
Very relatable style, thorough, and great explanations/rationales so individuals can decide based on their preferences whether the meal sounds like an option. Also gave some idea about general quality consistency between meals.

Sad to hear that you had stomach issues with one of their meals! I've been using the service for 5-6 months and for me it never happened. I'm in Seattle, and in here they make bags and ice packs returnable which is a big plus for me. For anyone out there who might want to have this for the whole week, I suggest you eat the meals with vegetables as early as possible, plan which day of the week you will eat the other meals and put the ones that will take 3+ days to eat on the freezer. After experimenting with number of meals I found that 8 per week is ideal for me as I eat them on weekdays, and not every single meal, so I don't have to throw any spoiled food in the trash. Also some of their meals are 1000 calories so sometimes your can get 2 servings. That being said, after watching your video I want more reassurance from Cook Unity that their kitchens are adequately controlled for food safety.

Thanks for your review, definitely what I was looking for. One of the reasons I left Factor 75 is they didn’t list all of their ingredients on the website and I have a sensitivity to onions.
Oh no! Onions are a hard thing to avoid so I understand wanting to make sure you can see ingredients in advance. Listing ingredients should be a given in general. I hope you find something you like!
I just found you and subscribed based on this review alone. I’m not well and cooking right now is difficult. I tried Blue Apron’s prepared meals and was incredibly disappointed. I will say that their customer support was wonderful; I got a full refund. I’m interested in CookUnity and your review really answered all my questions. Excellent detailed review. I'm looking for a new RTE service and on the verge of dropping Factor. They've been late, no show and short of meals, after ordering and or delivery. They have no real time inventory to reference when choosing and after 5 months of dependable service, things have really gone downhill over the last month and a half. Thanks for the review. I may give these folks a shot.

Thanks for commenting! That's a good addition. It's been a while since I posted this, so I don't remember now if I saw a phone number or anything, and I had my issue resolved through email. Phone support is definitely preferred for a lot of people. I noticed that their company has been popping up a ton lately in sponsored videos. Maybe if they get enough business and feedback on it from people signing up through youtubers, they'll increase customer support.
Love the review. This is the meal plan I decided to go with; I just wish I saw your video a few hours earlier, because the food poisoning situation may have swayed me another way. Oh well, the die is cast! I do have a question: when using a regular or convection oven, are you able to place the trays that the meals come with into the oven, or do you need to transfer them to a baking dish? My wife and I will be using a countertop Breville convection oven/air fryer to heat the meals, we do not have a microwave. That was another reason why we went with this brand - many others that are “no prep” seem to require a microwave to cook. Thank you!
Hi! Thanks for watching! I honestly feel bad that I got sick from a meal because I think the service deserves a shot, so I'm glad you're giving it a try and hope my issue was just a fluke. For the meals I got, heating directions said nothing about transferring them to a different pan for the oven. They just said to preheat the oven to whichever temp, remove the sleeve, and heat for X minutes. So I think it should be fine unless you get a meal that says otherwise.

I have tried multiple service's and cookunity is the only one which feels like almost getting food from a restaurant. different and very tasty meals. and good portions. One problem i got with other meal delivery's such as Factor is it made me sick of their food after couple of weeks. the feeling that you having same food over and over. thankfully cook unity doesn't have this issue, well at least for me.

CookUnity is a pretty good option. The meals are tasty, fresh and convenient. That being said, I also find them a little too small to bring for work lunches (unless you also pack some fruit or a dessert with it), and the price isn’t too high, but it is kind of expensive for me to commit to on a weekly basis when all the expenses to receive your meals are added up. If I made a bit more, I’d be much more interested in keeping my subscription.

Is there another ready-meal company like CookUnity? I'm not thrilled with 50% of CookUnity meals, but I am a Foodie who loves different ethnic gourmet cuisine. There must be competition for CookUnity?
I review companies as I come across or hear about them rather than researching companies of a specific type, so I wouldn't be able to recommend another service I haven't tried yet and I can't think of other ready made services right now except Factor. Sorry, I can't be of more help!
I enjoyed this review very much, although the meals appeared to have very small portions. I'm a hearty eater, so that is what worries me about all these services. Sorry to hear one of the meals got you sick, but thank you for such an enjoyable experience! I liked and subscribed 😃
Glad you enjoyed my review! There's a lot of range with the portions, so I know if I ordered again, I'd try to guess what might come with more food in it and stick to those. There is also the issue you had with food poisoning, they need to freeze there meals or least make that an option for customers.... the whole chilled method to keep the little difference in flavor is not worth it, is dangerous and wasteful. Also they could keep the same flavor and preserve the meals a lot longer if they vacuum seal and then freeze, with added ice packets
I agree. I don't personally value precooked food more if it's chilled instead of frozen. I eat just as many frozen dinners and leftovers as meals made fresh, and I can't say I've ever felt disappointed or deprived by frozen. So for the sake of food safety when delivering, I think more ready made companies should go that route. But the fresh angle is great for marketing, and a lot of people don't want to feel like they're paying extra for something they could get at the store even if it's not the same. I’m a small person that doesn’t eat large portions but the food you got doesn’t even look like it would fill me up. EDIT. I have had many meal kits and never got sick so this seals my opinion on this service. I will not try it.
Yes, the range of portion sizes is broad. Some dishes look like they wouldn't fill up a bird while others are overflowing, yet they're all the same price, so it's best to pick meals that are bigger. I reviewed some that didn't have as much as others. Since they do things in small batches in actual kitchens in different locations, the experience will be different depending on where you order. So unlike a service like Hello Fresh or Factor where if one thing has a problem, all of those items need to be recalled, the thing that made me sick at Cook Unity was likely just something with that package I got from that kitchen, like ordering from a restaurant. It definitely put me off but things happen. Thanks for the comment!
Certainly for some. I always say that all of these services are pricey for what I personally spend, even without the discount that made these cheaper. But there are a lot of people spending that much or more on fast food or other meals that want to get away from that without having to cook, and that's where services like this one are great. Yes, some people definitely find it too small. It's either too much or too little for me depending on the meal, but it also has like 200 different ones in my area, so if I jump back into it, I'll just pick the ones that are more filling.
They waisted my time, I tried ordering from them and my meals never came after waiting for over a week... on the 3rd day past the delivery date, they refunded me my money, I then canceled my subscription. What i think happened is my meals got held up in processing at UPS, and it was very hot in the Midwest last week, so the food ended up spoiling. They need to do away with the chilled method of delivery... and need to actually freeze there meals or make that an option during checkout. Never the less i might give them another shot in the winter.. in January when its cold.
I'm sorry about your delivery, but glad you at least got a refund. This extreme weather is why I also decided not to do any more ready made reviews until next season, just in case lol

So you heated them in the microwave instead of the oven, ate out of the paper containers instead of plating the contents, and used a plastic fork instead of a real one. Not a very appetizing presentation.
Yes! I don't advertise for the companies I review, and this isn't a cooking channel, so making the food look appetizing with its presentation isn't the point. It's showing the food as it is to give people an accurate view of what they're getting, and as the average person would eat it. There are definitely channels out there that focus on plating ready made and microwavable meals though if you're looking for that!

Cook unity is super yummy the colors of the boxes are red for meat, blue for fish and green for vegetarian :)

I’ve enjoyed CookUnity and especially the broad selection. I’ve never gotten ill. I think all their chefs have passed the Serve safe certification.

One problem i got with other meal delivery's such as Factor is it made me sick of their food after couple of weeks. the feeling that you having same food over and over. thankfully cook unity doesn't have this issue, well at least for me.

CookUnity is a pretty good option. The meals are tasty, fresh and convenient. That being said, I also find them a little too small to bring for work lunches (unless you also pack some fruit or a dessert with it), and the price isn’t too high, but it is kind of expensive for me to commit to on a weekly basis when all the expenses to receive your meals are added up. If I made a bit more, I’d be much more interested in keeping my subscription.
Totally understandable! I think it's hit or miss on serving size so I do wish that was more consistent, but it's definitely been at the top of my list of services I've reviewed so far. Thanks so much for watching!

The expiration dates are only about 3 or 4 days after I receive. I am always concerned about freshness.
Totally! I think that's why some of these services work best with less meals per week, so you aren't trying to rush to finish them. Though I do think the meals can be frozen. Thanks for the comment!

Is there another ready-meal company like CookUnity? I'm not thrilled with 50% of CookUnity meals, but I am a Foodie who loves different ethnic gourmet cuisine. There must be competition for CookUnity?
I review companies as I come across or hear about them rather than researching companies of a specific type, so I wouldn't be able to recommend another service I haven't tried yet and I can't think of other ready made services right now except Factor. Sorry, I can't be of more help!
I enjoyed this review very much, although the meals appeared to have very small portions. I'm a hearty eater, so that is what worries me about all these services. Sorry to hear one of the meals got you sick, but thank you for such an enjoyable experience! I liked and subscribed 😃

I was happy with the amount of food in most of these, but I'd still want the biggest meals I can get, especially if it costs the same either way. Thanks for watching!
There is also the issue you had with food poisoning, they need to freeze there meals or least make that an option for customers.... the whole chilled method to keep the little difference in flavor is not worth it, is dangerous and wasteful. Also they could keep the same flavor and preserve the meals a lot longer if they vacuum seal and then freeze, with added ice packets
I agree. I don't personally value precooked food more if it's chilled instead of frozen. I eat just as many frozen dinners and leftovers as meals made fresh, and I can't say I've ever felt disappointed or deprived by frozen. So for the sake of food safety when delivering, I think more ready made companies should go that route.
But the fresh angle is great for marketing, and a lot of people don't want to feel like they're paying extra for something they could get at the store even if it's not the same. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

I’m a small person that doesn’t eat large portions but the food you got doesn’t even look like it would fill me up. EDIT. I have had many meal kits and never got sick so this seals my opinion on this service. I will not try it.
Yes, the range of portion sizes is broad. Some dishes look like they wouldn't fill up a bird while others are overflowing, yet they're all the same price, so it's best to pick meals that are bigger. I reviewed some that didn't have as much as others.
Since they do things in small batches in actual kitchens in different locations, the experience will be different depending on where you order. So unlike a service like Hello Fresh or Factor where if one thing has a problem, all of those items need to be recalled, the thing that made me sick at Cook Unity was likely just something with that package I got from that kitchen, like ordering from a restaurant. $12 a meal is fairly pricey
Certainly for some. I always say that all of these services are pricey for what I personally spend, even without the discount that made these cheaper. But there are a lot of people spending that much or more on fast food or other meals that want to get away from that without having to cook, and that's where services like this one are great. Too small portions for me.
Yes, some people definitely find it too small. It's either too much or too little for me depending on the meal, but it also has like 200 different ones in my area, so if I jump back into it, I'll just pick the ones that are more filling.

They waisted my time, I tried ordering from them and my meals never came after waiting for over a week... on the 3rd day past the delivery date, they refunded me my money, I then canceled my subscription. What i think happened is my meals got held up in processing at UPS, and it was very hot in the Midwest last week, so the food ended up spoiling. They need to do away with the chilled method of delivery... and need to actually freeze there meals or make that an option during checkout. Never the less i might give them another shot in the winter.. in January when its cold.
I'm sorry about your delivery, but glad you at least got a refund. This extreme weather is why I also decided not to do any more ready made reviews until next season, just in case lol
Of course, some meals don't freeze well. Leafy salads, for instance.
Rather than the weight of the meal, I would prefer to hear the calories.

So you heated them in the microwave instead of the oven, ate out of the paper containers instead of plating the contents, and used a plastic fork instead of a real one. Not a very appetizing presentation.
Yes! I don't advertise for the companies I review, and this isn't a cooking channel, so making the food look appetizing with its presentation isn't the point. It's showing the food as it is to give people an accurate view of what they're getting, and as the average person would eat it. There are definitely channels out there that focus on plating ready made and microwavable meals though if you're looking for that!
