  • My thoughts after trying both Factor and Fresh N Lean for a couple of weeks. I was looking for an easy premade meal to use during the week. One of them turned out to be a pretty poor deal.

    Thanks for this excellent review: I was trying to compare those same 2 meal services and couldn't find details like portion size/weight ANYWHERE. Would love to hear an update now that you've been using Factor for a couple more weeks.

      After a few weeks, I stand by it for the most part. Factor isn't going to wow you. It's not as good as freshly prepared food, but it's not bad at all. My biggest criticism is probably that the veg is largely green beans, cauliflower, or broccoli. Not a lot of variety otherwise. The meals are all somehow "simple" feeling. Like, three parts: meat, carb, veg on repeat. So, you're not getting much in the way of nuance or complexity. However, I'm going to keep using them for now, so take all of that into consideration... at the end of the day, they are getting my money.

      I'm the opposite. I prefer Fresh N Lean. While the servings are less, the flavors are there, and their beef, turkey, and fish options are great. I don't order Chicken (my least favorite meals). I also add salt and pepper to each meal.

    I know nothing of Fresh N Lean, but Factor is a mixed bag. Once you've tried almost all the meals you quickly learn which meals you want regularly, semi regularly, and which meals you don't want anymore. So when you get that email It's Time to Edit Your Meals, make sure that you do. Because if you don't they will send you meals you may not like.

    It’s worth considering that Fresh N Lean uses primarily organic ingredients which is not an option for factor. Also, the packaging for FNL (as annoying as it is to cut) is great because it shows when the food has gone bad (when it inflates, it is bad). Additionally, vacuum packing removes air which keeps the food fresher for longer.

    Tried Fresh n lean vegan and it was awful. Terrible recipes and flavors were off. I felt there wasn’t enough food, the packaging was very difficult to open and the steam burns your hand when you are trying to open the thick plastic. Canceled service, didn’t like the food, the packaging or the price.

    I currently use Fresh N Lean. What I like most is that the vacuum packing makes the food last longer. This is handy for unpredictable meal scheduling. Sometimes I eat a meal more than a week after it arrives and shrink the following order by the number of leftover meals. The extra air in the Factor trays should mean faster spoilage. That said, I didn't realize the Factor meals were larger at the same price. Also, I see that Factor added free shipping at some point between this video publication and today. I just might give them a shot!

    I was hoping you were going to endorse Factor. I signed up for Factor's Keto "friendly" meals for health reasons. I initially went shopping for keto friendly foods after my doc said I was pre-diabetic, and they aren't cheap. If you can find them. $1.60 for regular spaghetti sauce turns into $5.00 not to mention the same for the keto pasta and on and on. So when you look at the per meal prices you should FACTOR that in (unintended). Not to mention the time spent staring at labels in supermarkets which is nearly void of low carb choices. It' not an easy transition trying to break years of disregarding carb counts and old shopping habits. So in that regard these meals are a blessing since you can speed your dietary changes in the time it takes to receive your first box. And so far everything has been delicious. I may be in the "honeymoon" phase so time will tell, but for now I'm satisfied. Thanks for doing this comparison and more or less confirming my choice after a long period of research.

    The only thing that is going to make me choose FNL over Factor is the fact that delivery day is on Saturday. Why would you deliver meals mid-week? That's annoying. I eat meals Sunday - Friday and then go out on Saturdays. FNL is perfect for that schedule!

    I've tried both and Fresh N Lean's stuff definitely looks better and is in more attractive packaging. But truthfully, the food tasted okay at best without salt. And I found myself pretty hungry after meals. In contrast, almost every Factor meal I've tried tasted great out of the box and I was usually satisfied hunger-wise. I'm on week 2 of Fresh n Lean but I'm canceling and going back to Factor.

    Why didn’t you weigh the factor package

    • @TechDregs
      @TechDregs  Год назад +1

      I have weighed it, but didn't film it. The packaging weight, minus the carboard wrapper that can be slid off for Factor, is pretty similar for both companies, high 20s-low30s in grams. Factor tends to use more form factors for their packaging. Some items are one compartment, some are two or even three, and some come with internal containers for sauces and things, so there can be some variation in packaging weight.

      Some people might not mind, but I don't think salting food after the fact ever gives the same quality of flavor. It can also cause a problem if you forget to bring a salt packet when you take one to heat up at work. Then you're just left with bland food.

  • @samuelmontypython8381
    @samuelmontypython8381 9 месяцев назад +2

    For the weight issue, it’s because they don’t weigh an individual amount of food per meal when cooking. They made a large batch when starting the company, divided the food into containers, and got a few of them sent off for nutritional analysis (which includes weighing). I started a jerky company with a friend and we had to do the same thing because it’s under the category of CPG (consumer packaged goods). You only do the nutritional analysis once for that specific meal and then afterwards it seems they are throwing in “eyeball” amounts, which I agree is a sloppy practice for this type of company.

    • @TechDregs
      @TechDregs  9 месяцев назад

      Yeah, IIRC, the regs state they only need to be within 10% of the listed weight. The big gripe is, if they are pushing these things for people based on macros, they need to get closer to hitting those macros. As big a deal as the total calorie counts is that the meals they offer often don't even meet their advertised plan macro levels presuming they did deliver the nominal package values. I mean, on Fresh and Lean's current menu for this week on the Protein+ plan, only *one* meal actually has 36g of protein nominally. That's supposed to be the average protein level for that plan... lol.
