Steep driveways vs little cars! Snow storm causes multiple recoveries

- Опубликовано: 13 дек 2022
- An icy snowstorm caused quite a few stuck vehicles. Due to the low weight rating of a bridge on the second one, I took my old grey Dodge as it’s the lightest truck I have and the only one under the rating. The first job was a very simple winch of a car up a steep and slippery driveway, but unfortunately the second car suffered some damage when it slid off the side of the driveway and into a tree. On that one I decided to do a side pull to move the car off of the tree without causing any more damage, and luckily the car was still drivable afterwards.

Tip for future rescues, Almost all European cars have a towing hook that you can screw into the front. You'll find it under the floor in the trunk and usually it attaches to a hole behind a little plastic cover in the front bumper, 90% of the time its below the passenger side headlight. Poke the plastic cover out and bam, perfect place to attach your winch without crawling around under the car ;)
There's also a place for them in the rear, usually below the passenger tail light. BMW, Mercedes, Volkswagen/Audi/Skoda, and Volvo all have them in a very similar location.
Good luck, and hope it helps!
Edit: Turns out its called a ”Tow Eye”, not tow hook :)
Also thought i should add that most of them are reverse threaded so you dont go mad wondering why the thread wont bite haha
It's not recommended to pull sideways like in the video. It is only ment to pull a vehicle forward on to a roll back.
@@ptso7580 The Japanese Subaru he pulled sideways is not very European, but yeah you are right. You shouldnt pull sideways on the ”Tow Eye” as i learned they are called
Most Nissan's as well.
Like many others I stayed for the “Grand Finale” cuz I like watching your videos. Also the link to your other videos worked perfectly.
Thanks for all your hard work Casey.
There is a reason why left hand threads are use screwing the towing eye. The way a synthetic rope is weave and the the pull release of the rope, unlikely, but is known to happen can unscrew the eye if it's screwed in with right hand threads. Also you never tighten or crank the towing eye all the way in, you will never unscrew it by hand.
I bet 99% of us watch till the end , keep it up Casey !
Oh hell yes, and I’m only 10 seconds in already (and I have already hit the like button)
I normally watch to the end.
@@1988dgs I hit the like button before I even push play on my favorite RUclipsrs vids, so that I don’t forget lol
@@nathanielsouza312 👍 my videos play automatically, let’s me get into the videos quicker 😉
I didn’t I skipped most of it and I’m clicking off with 5 mins to go because it’s honestly boring..
"I prefer it... It's simpler" is very underrated these days. Simplicity is a luxury all its own in an age of complexity.
I like it when you talk to yourself....makes me feel normal..lol.
I'm still here until the last second of your videos
You weren't talking to yourself about the truck. I was there.
Being calm must be very reassuring for these customers.
You're not talking to yourself Casey. Great job.
Here until every end, Thank You.
I most always stay until the end. There's nothing wrong with talking to yourself, I do it all the time.
Stay to the end as always.
You weren’t talking to yourself, sir!! good job, Casey . I enjoy your videos too much!!
Casey, I stayed till the end. You are a genius. I’ve watched numerous of your vids and how you are able to quickly analyze the situation and formulate a smooth plan speaks volumes about your intelligence. How you come up with winching plans, determining which angles will be the most effective and easily accomplished shows how analytical your mind is. You are just awesome. Keep making the great vids, and be safe out there. You are very needed.
Ditto
I was too lazy to stop it so I left it playing to the end.
Yep, I stayed also.
I was there to the end. I like the tire chain chock trick!
I would add one thing.. a mid chassis anchor point on both sides of your rig. It would help in so many situations. Just thinking ;-(
Stayed til the end!
Idaho! A beautiful place to live! 👍
I'm no Frasier Crane, but I am listening casey. Good video.
Not talking to yourself, some of us hang out till the end. I always do just to listen and see what else might come up. Thanks for sharing a vid, a few thoughts, nd making my day better. 🐾🐾🍻
Nah, we stay to the end. Looking forward to seeing what you do to your old work truck. Always good to have a capable daily driver.
I stayed to the end! Thanks for rambling. I enjoyed listening to you thinking out loud about your truck. Looking forward to those videos,
I definitely like that truck!
I was a little floored when you actually responded to my question about the old Dodge last week. It was even cooler to hear you talk about it now.
Thank you, sir
Casey I can guarantee that your loyal fans watch your videos all the way through. I think doing upgrades on that truck is a good idea so you can use it for winter recoveries especially when you have situations like that small bridge.
I always enjoy your videos
Very smart to video the condition you find a clients vehicle so they cannot at a later point claim you did damage to their vehicle. I watch all the way to the end.
I made it to the end Casey. Your wrap ups are usually entertaining and informative, so I have found it worthwhile sticking around to the end, plus there is another video offered up to watch.
Watched it all the way through, and you weren't talking to yourself.
Keeping it simple works best.
A bag of coarse sand in the trunk of the customers car. A few handfuls on the hill would work. I had to do that a few times when plowing snow in a 5 ton Dodge
Na, 2 of us still here; oops, the other guy left.... thanks anyway!
Nah, I just had to use the restroom, it was in pause.
I was going to ask if that was an International sitting to the side of the road. You answered that question right away.
Thanks for the trip.
I knew it was, I have them too.
Good job Casey. Have a good day. By safe out there. God bless you all the time.
Well I know who I’d call in Oregon! What a careful tow operator. I had the pleasure of doing business with a local down-to-earth guy like Casey who got me out of a snowy ditch on Utah 12. He hooked up my rented Mercury AWD (yes I’m old), told me to roll down the back window, put just the right tension on the line, told me to gun it in reverse, and it popped out of that ditch like toast out of a toaster; just like he said it would. I made sure he had a tip big enough to take his wife and kids out for a good Utah steak dinner. These small rural operators are the best, just like you are Casey.
Awesome video, stayed to the end so not talking to yourself.
I really enjoyed the summer explorations and odd jobs but I love the snow rescues.
Really enjoying seeing the winter recovery jobs again
Slippery slope that is! I like Old Grey! 😁
Great recovery Casey. I like a lot of us stayed with you to the End!! Love your videos and rescues. 🤙😎
Casey we all stayed till the end love your videos you have great ideas for use in your towing business 👍
I have wondered how the gray pickup was doing. Good to see the very capable truck being used.
I was listening to you! I agree with older vehicles being more fun to drive. I have an older vehicle, I just enjoy driving it, plus it's paid off 😉👍 Thanks for all those you help. I hope they appreciate as much as I do. Stay safe and GOD bless
Good looking IH flatbed, surprised Ben hasn't bought it. Nice save on the Subie. Careful with Elite, someone might borrow some parts and then the truck is out of service. 🤣
Nope, you were not talking to yourself. Even though we all do it from time to time.
It is nice having trucks set up for different purposes.
Always the optimist :).
You weren't talking to yourself! I stayed til the end, as did a zillion other viewers, I'm sure.
I know I did ( people never know what they're missing )
Interesting recoveries, Casey. I do think both of those situations are the PERFECT place to be mad at my step-grandfather, Ralph.
I'm still here, and I've already seen those videos. Re-gearing and lockers will make a world of difference. Always enjoy the ride along.
I really like the winter recoveries too! Oh and great tip about sliding the chains under your tires I’ve got to remember that one! Thanks Casey!
Greetings from South Australia ( the driest stsate in the driest continent in the world lol) I've never seen snow myself but after binge watching every one of your videos and your growth and changes, I think I might have a little appreciation of its special charatoristics if I ever do enchounter it.
Love your people skills and commitment to your community and travellers to your area
Keep up ypur great work👍
Oh you poor poor person!! 😪😪 We are about to get clobbered here in Maine. Wish I could send you some. Wish I could send you all of it!
@@linh8997 Actually the biggest river in the country is in flood at the moment from months of heavy rain upstream. Currently flooding areas and towns about 100 klms (60miles) from here and worse upstream so its a bit unusual but not uncommon.
Still has yet to peak
Watching you do these winter service calls sure brings back old memories from the years I worked for my dad. Worked in the garage and did service calls with the pickup and the wrecker. The big storm of 1978 was the worst year for snow in my area. Cursed the wrecker calls one after the other every day for over a week straight after the snow dump but today I wish I could go back and do it all over again. Good memories. Thanks. And BTW, I always watch to the end. Just afraid I'll miss something. LOL
Casey will have to give us an update on his next awesome video on how many of us stayed till the end. I have FOMO, so I I stayed till the end. Thanks Casey for your content!
I'm still here, and that sounds like a plan! You're a good guy Casey, keep up the great work!
Always here til it pops up your other videos, then have to watch one of those!
Casey...you have little faith in your faithfull viewers...we all stayed till the end! We all want to know what you are planning for your upgrades...gives us good ideas...lol
Watched to the end,as always,,when you threw down the short pieces of chain for traction,I remembered my doing a similar thing,,got hung up in some deep slushy, muddy, snow with a tractor trailer pulling a loaded flatbed, not a tow truck available for miles,so the truck had Budd wheels on it,I used some 5/16" tie down chains, took off the hooks, and looped the chain thru the wheel holes like tire chains and drove back to,solid ground,,necessity is the mother of invention, wasn't really stuck, just had a temporary loss of traction!😎😎😎
GREAT JOB! STAY SAFE! THANK YOU for sharing. 👍
I find that talking to myself means I get the answers I want. You know, when you live in a world of your own everybody knows you :)
Watched till the end sounds like a good build that truck sounds perfect for it!!
I will definitely keep you in mind if I get stuck in central Oregon. I work I EMS and our ambulance isn’t the best in the snow lol
I'm still listening and I already watched the other two videos! hahaha.
I always stay to the end of your videos, Casey I love them
We are waiting on a storm to come through here. Gonna binge on your videos! Hopefully a couple on new ones will be out! Stay safe Casey!
Saturdays video is a wild one!
@@CaseyLaDelle can't wait
@@CaseyLaDelle Whoo Hooo! The kids and I can't wait!! Thanks Casey!
Enjoying your videos.
Thanks, Casey, For all you do!! I love watching every one of your videos all the way to the end! God Bless you!!
Ever since I started watching your videos I have no longer been able to stand Matt’s off-road recovery and friends. You’re so straight to the point and provide awesome honest content.
you lack taste then. This channel is mediocre at best and quite honestly quite boring......
No. If it is very cold and wet outside, then you watch Matt's off-road. If it's hot dry and dusty, watch Casey's channel
So nice that you help people! Stayed to the end, as always!👍😎 Keep up the great work and stay safe out there!❤️🙏
That Dodge truck is really useful. Your plans for it sound great. Only thing I would suggest, how about putting some work lights on it, for those dusk / night time rescues? Really enjoy your video's, thanks for posting them.
Sounds like a good plan for your Silver truck. It has been a good truck for you and you like it. Show it some love and make some repairs and upgrades 👍
I have a 98 chevy k1500,almost 240,000 mi. Still runs strong. 5.7 eng. Stock wheels, no lift kit, rides like a dream. Been to Vacaville, back up Ore coast, up and down China hat, Derrick cave 131 over to Adel, Plush, Glass house (twice). Probably 4,,000 mi since last Dec. I've added 2011 GMC Sierra k1500, stock, and just last month, a 2015 k1500 z 71dble cab, also stock. And as you prefer the older ride, I prefer the 98 also. Loaded for survival on rack and in canopied bed. Pull one axel trailer for base camp, and reach farther out in 1500. Maybe set up one of newer for overland expo, not sure yet. Enjoy your vids, see you at next cleanup this spring. Keep on trucking.
hey, even if some people dropped out this would be like a Memo to your self plus those of us who heard to make sure you can go back and check it when needed! Merry Christmas!
First thing I noticed when you pulled in that driveway was the International pickup flatbed, and the loader tractor on the other side.
Stayed til the end Casey! Awesome work. Look forward to the dodge buildup
I stayed to the end of the video, but didn’t click on either one of the videos in the box. I have seen them both. Another great video. I like the plans for the truck. I have 3.73 gears in my Jeep with 37” tires and it struggles at times and does not weigh nearly as my as your truck does. Keep the videos coming. Enjoy the all!
You had many till the end watchers!!
Thank you and everyone who will go out in the cold , windy weather to help people...thank you !
Did you pick up the chains. Remember….worry is my default setting. 👍
I have already seen those videos. I have been watching for over a year now ever since you stopped into Matts off road recover shop.
I am still here listening you talk about your truck at the 16 minute mark.
You weren't talking to yourself at the end Casey, I stuck around! lol What about putting (Im not sure what the actual name for it is called) a repo lift on the back to add even more versatility to that truck? (and it is a sad statement when the old Dodge is more comfortable than the new Ram! lol) Great video!
Do you mean wheel lift recovery system?
I don’t want this to be a tow truck
With you on older simpler truck, you know what you need better than any suggestion, but i like the idea 👍
glad you was able to get those people out safely. we dont get that much
snow here where i live. maybe a Inch.
Great job
Hi Casey still you’re watching 12:45 am unfortunately watch those two videos already stay safe John in the UK
I always watch till the end! Cheers n Merry Christmas.
This solved you nice!
Stayed to the end….
I enjoy your videos because I’m an Oregonian and recognize many of the rescue locations.
You are really good at what you do!
I enjoy listening to you talk to yourself!
Nope, stuck it out to the end LoL
Always interesting to hear ideas for new truck builds. A couple of side winches hidden in the tool boxes might be neat. So many places where a side winch is handy for stabilization or a small redirect in off-road situations.
We watch every single one of your videos to the very end and we Love each and every second of ALL Your videos Brother ❤️🙏
I hope they never have a house fire on the far side of that bridge or they are screwed.
Or a forest fire.
I stayed till the end 😊great as always
Can't wait to see the upgrades to this Ram! Please bring us along the way. That's exactly the kind of build I would want if I had more off-road available to me in southwestern Ontario.
I stayed until the end. One thing I learned in my towing days was never try to eat, sleep, shower or get friendly with your spouse when it is snowing. I hope you didn’t jinx yourself.
Easy-peasy you help 2 different drivers you're awesome
You and trail mater are the only channels I almost always make it to the end. Some I used to have better cameras, crews, and editing than they started out with but almost feel like a formula.
There is no “almost” about a formula being used…. Now that formula definitely and very obviously works, and is clearly a smart business move, but I’m not a fan of it.
I watched to the end and I also already watched the other 2 videos!! I Love that truck. I'm a dodge fan, I have an 08 2500 4 door long box. amazing trucks
Love the talking at the end. Its great to hear your plans or explanations of what you do 👍
I’m always surprised people rarely ask what do I owe you?
I like the idea for the truck - some of the older Dodge trucks are (in my experience/opinion) just one step above a nice car as far as comfort goes (my parents had a 72 D100 that I dearly loved for how comfortable it was, even towing a travel trailer behind it). Oh - the in screen works perfectly.
Another satisfied customer... impressive that she was able to get up that slope after the bridge...
Great work Casey, it is always nice to see what a simple truck and a winch can do. Keep it up man !!
Sand on the driveway goes a long way
Definitely a good dependable rig , worth every penny you paid for it and the upgrades you want done .
