No wonder I’ve been seeing this more often on Lichess. Whenever Levy or Eric release an opening video like this I start to see the opening all the time in online games.
And it was in this position that Lord Voldemort resigned the game. Why did he resign? Because there was no good move here. If Voldemort goes for Avada Kedavra, Harry has this sneaky move Expelliarmus and the position is completely lost for the death eaters.
It'll be a picture of levy getting mugged Assailant has a knife Levy replies with "Danger levels... okay.. know what's worth more than my wallet? Your life!" And pulls out his 9mm
Great tutorial! I love the Scotch opening as white and I realize now that I've been playing it wrong all along. I'm going to research this opening further and learn all the lines. Thanks!
I really liked the bishop move to e2! When I used to play against chessmaster, the IA attacked me that way, and beat me. Now I'm improving a lot thanks to these vídeos, thank you so much!
I play Bc5 against scotch because I fell into a lot of scotch traps and lost many games so I decided to look up the scotch game on agadmator's channel and saw caruana and carlsen playing scotch. That game's analysis helped me learn that GM's reply to scotch is Bc5 and I've been playing it ever since to avoid any opening disasters.
Awesome video dude, I made a flow chart of the entire opening, I'm gonna practice this and see if I can commit it to memory pretty soon. It'll be my first opening to learn and hopefully, I get to utilize it against my brother soon!
but if you take with the knight you lose the e pawn, I don't think it's worth to maintain the right to castle for the cost of a central pawn in the opening, but maybe I'm wrong
I think I found the best way for me (beginner) to watch your videos, especially the 10 minute opening videos. I set the playback speed to 75%, pause from time to time and analyse in a second window. It's perfect, you don't need to do 1 hour videos and I get a full hour of learning material 🤓👍. Thank you.
For any MMA or Jiu Jitsu fans here Levy speaks and explains things the exact same way as Firas Zahabi which is a very good thing. Thank you Levy for teaching us in such a clear manner
The Potter Variation is named after the English writer William Norwood Potter (27 Aug 1840 -- 13 Mar 1895). (I didn't previously know that an opening-variation had been named after him.) The Potter Variation 5 Nb3 is worse for White. Potter was the subject of the obituary G E Barbier published, which included part of a game Fenton--Potter out of whose ending Barbier made a study which Rev. Francisco Saavedra famously cooked. (There seems to be some doubt as to which game it actually was, but that's another matter.)
Had similar positions against Nelson on chess.com but was unable to play them properly. Thanks for some great tips. Must say my game has improved dramatically since finding your channel. I mean, I’m a novice beginner. Less than 2 months ago I went from knowing just how the pieces move to a couple of openings and my first draw because I couldn’t close my advantage... And now, after following your advice about improving, my rating is only 399 on chess.com but I’ve managed to win 3 games in a row since following you. In less than 2 weeks I’ve gone from losing every game with the odd draw, to finding checkmate regularly and being able to win even when down on material. I only have bad games when I don’t follow your advice and overplay... Hung everything today and still got a draw when my opponent was +25. Thanks for your channel and all the free gold.
Great vid. And yeah I always go for the early Queen x Queen after the double d-e pawn exchange...I don't use the queen much and some do, so removing their ability to castle and their queen is nearly always worth it in my opinion...best is do it with the Blackmar Diemer variation in my (limited) experience. Will try the Scotch if I get the opportunity.
Didnt know this was the potter variation but i love it when white plays it. I take the pawn and bring the queen out. I usually crush my opponent but am only 1650 rapid on lichess
@@casyio6670 Cannot pinpoint for sure, because he does this a lot, but if you watch Gotham videos from here on out, you can definitely find some examples. There was this one game, where the theory goes as such, white plays e4 and it is very chaotic, then white plays c4, but black pins the pawn with the Ba6. Then, Nepo swings his h pawn all the way to h6, and reroutes it via h3, to the center of the board.
Can you go over why black has to respond with E5? Why is that there one best move? Might be a cool video idea about how the other moves aren't as good for black?
Mr.gotham chess can you please make a 10 min opening video of ponzeoni opening which helps us alot in playing we need about the theory and some cool tricks
Hey Levy, thanks for your dedication too the channel and all the hard work you putting into the videos, as a terrible chess player, this helps me out a lot. Thanks man, keep it up!
I think the show the Queen’s gambit is doing a lot of good for the chess world. A lot of people are trying chess or coming back to it because of it and it would also explain what you said at the end of your video, I myself are one of those and i discovered your channel after watching it.

I too am often compared to Daniel Radcliffe and therefore, by transitivity, to Levy. This explains why I just defended against a fork on my queen and rook by playing a prophylactic blundering of the queen.
Consolidation is something I understand the basic idea of but don't know when and how to do it correctly, it's one of those chess concepts I first heard on your stream that I want to get better at, definitely recommend a video on it, that and rerouting pieces
I played the counter-trap before doing research in theory and I felt like an absolute god. They ended up blundering their queen because it was an 800 elo game. 😂
Yes, you do look like Radcliffe. (said this to someone as soon as I saw your videos come up in my suggestions) but personality and manner is different otherwise. You come across fairly confident and quick. This was also a very interesting strategy overview of kings pawn Scotch variation. I am currently a fan of the Vienna and Stafford as black or King's bishop, less common strategy. Thanks for your videos. I got a wood cut board for Christmas and I'm playing a lot more right now. My grandfather was a master player but yah, recent film also had an effect in resurrecting my interest in the game. I get John Malchovich, unfortuantely or not.

That's because watching a video is not learning.

That's why you need to watch videos like these with a book, pen and a chess board
You should do a cosplay of that insane daniel Radcliffe meme but instead of two guns photoshop an advertisement for your opening courses on each hand

Love this guy. He seems like a normal dude who just happens to be a chess genius. Really appreciate his insights. Great job.
Youre wrong, his ego has gotten the better of him. He has a superiority complex.
"Oh, my opponent is pushing a pawn on the kingside, perhaps preparing an attack. Let me just push a pawn on my queenside in response."
