- An age old debate between teachers, parents and students is, whether or not students should be allowed to bring their mobile phones to school. Some parents may say they prefer their children to have a mobile phone with them at all times while teachers say that phones are a major distraction. Whose point of view holds more truth and how can mobile phones be used effectively in schools? We debate in this episode of Heads Up.

You are right...only for safety students must carry basic mobile phone with them...Internet must be provided them when they are 18+...coz they must watch unhealthy technology.....but I am of 17 right now but I am at my home
In my opinion it depends on how it’s being used. There’s a time and place for everything. I think the teacher should take the phone away during work, during recess I think you should be allowed to use it. Of course during testing it should not be allowed.

if a student stay in school from morning 07:00 to evening 5:30 and were not allowed to play games as it should be and school worker or a teacher harass a student and they were not allowed to use office phone. then it is required to have a personal phone.

When entering classroom and class activity is on going, its better to turn off for a moment our mobile phone during class hours in respect for our proffesor.

It's always difficult to defend the argument which is something not in use currently.. I personally feel " cell phone can be a boon or bane depending on its operation", but, if we judge by the arguments and counter-responses the girl opposing the motion is having an upper hand here.. Not using technology when it's available is like using a manual fan instead of AC in harsh summers,it's pointless!
Self phone should be ban... because these are decreasing our memorising power as well because we are indulging in that small *cell* and escaping from which it is very hard... student will remain away from their basic need..like physical education and moral too. As my dear said that they can share class notes and audio then what is the basic need to come school...only one student can come and can send audio or notes to others...by doing this we will remain away from the basic need to go school....teacher and student also distracted by using phones....and the biggest bulky thing i want to pressurise that if we start looking our elders then we come to know that our memorising power is going decreasing....they could memorise a lot of poems,granthas,upnishdas etc orally.But i personally feel that using self phone at school at home mean that in excess we will not be able to express ourself... because we will express the self phones

I'm not in agreement with the one on the path to disagreement with the fact leading to having phone.
I think if we use any digital gadgets in a correct manner then it would be very helpful But before we will be applying the idea on school childrens then we should think strongly.

Middle ground solution:
Ban smartphones for students but allow them to have those basic/feature phones that allow only calling and texting. With that, little to no social media and online distraction while still keeping communication line with parents or guardians open as well as for safety.

What a wise girl, Sasha is! ..... her parents have done a great job. My parenting plan for my 12 year old boy is as follows - smart phone at 16 .... that gives him an active boyhood n the remaining 2 school years to make him 'smart' with the usage of the phone. N hopefully, those lessons will stay with him through college n rest of his life...

The main reason I do not agree that the mobile should be banned in school is that in the boring class, I can read something interest on my mobile. It should be varies from school to school, some school can conduct class that need interaction and participation in activities and learning. but the boring class make me see the phone is more benefit than listening to the unscrupulous teacher lecturing the subject that i am not interest.
It’s common sense. No cell phones should be allowed in schools. We survived without them when I was in school in the 60’s and 70’s. Nuff said!
But in 2020 cell phones should be must allowed cuz of this whole thing going on and it can be needed like all the time I mean u don't know when u need it atleast not at this point of time no one knows when we students will be needing to contact to our parents and other important peoples and it's also not possible for all the time to make a call from the office because of the Corona virus as it is not good for touch public things so we need our personal phones and also while going home so I think someone should start a petition on allowing phone to schools.... And also most of the schools in USA phones are allowed so maybe it's time for India to use the technology

In my school they use to allow phones but then students used it to record teachers and used it in between lessons so now we are not allowed it in school.Only once we've leaved the gates.Ugh its annoying.

Well what else is there to do me and my friends talk and show eachother stuff on our phones. I used to get bullied and it was terrible I would always have low self esteem but when I got my phone I started feeling better

Today's concept is now entirely different. Now we want more and more of m-learning because of pandemic period. Let's move to online schooling like that in other developed countries. I guess that would offer more flexibility, affordability and varied content. Have just came across one such advertisement of K8 Online School, you guys can also go and check.
Debate was awesome but in my opinion "carrying mobile should be totally banned during the classes not even for the teachers to, afterwards they can. lockers would be great idea for keeping the phones, because no need to buy Nokia 1600 and all stuff's. result- student happy, teacher happy and family would be greater than both.
