The bathhouse scene needs the context from the prior page where Yamato tells Nami that they can't join the women's bath, because there is no mixed bath, and yet Kiku joins the women's bath at the same time. The vivre card has also been known for mistakes, because Oda doesn't run or edit the merchandise. The splash page is beautiful, but I don't think it invalidates Yamato's words and actions in the story.
It is worse than you think Rev. Not all of them are even saying it is trans, they have even shifted to saying that Yamato is "he" because she calls herself a he. Basically, they want to force the idea that a person should be called what they say they are, not because they are trans... but because they simply want this. Which is another level of "crazy" if you ask me. @umbraemilitos No, that is what it means though. The whole point is that you aren't a "he" just because you call yourself that. A character is not defined by what they call themselves, but by what they are. If Yamato had called herself a pirate ship, should we refer to her as pirate ship just because she says she is one? The answer of course is no.
Crossdressing does not necessarily make you trans. Putting on a dress or makeup doesn't mean you identify as a woman. Hell, back in the 80's many of the top metal bands wore more makeup, hairspray and frilly clothes than the female popstars and they lived dangerously lascivious lifestyles with scores of groupies. We've raised a generation where every belief is all or nothing; affirmation or outrage.
its actually kind of funny that those metal bands were drowning in pussy but in my country currently there is an artist who is considered feminine, he has a lot of girl fans but my christian country calls him gay and demonic lmao.
But that's what "transgenders" want people to belive, so they just put a dress and makeup, call emselfs trans and do awfull shit using it has a shield, actual transexual people is in the hole because of all this crap while they just wanna live in peace
Yamato looks up to Oden and wants to be him because he had a cool life, NOT because she wants to be a male. It's not a gender crisis, rather she looks up to someone / has an identity crisis. How do those people not realise this?
Yamato called herself a man not because she identified as a man. But rather, because she admired Oden, and Oden was a man. If Oden was a woman, she simply would not have identified as a man. This was super obvious, and the manga made it super clear. I had no idea why these people hijacked Yamato like that. I get it that some are desperate for representation, but come on, make a comic yourself and give it trans characters, leave other people's art alone.
Exactly. Those people's reading comprehension are literal garbage, or they choose to ignore it so that they can have their twitter cloud by acting like "trans ally's".
Because when they do it, it's generic and forgettable. These people can not create compelling stories or characters because that's not what they WANT to create. In fact, they don't want to create, period
Quite Ironic the so called open and welcoming group force strict perspectives upon others and not really allowing freedom of expression and having different views and opinions.
A lot of people assumed Bayonetta was gay for years and then got upset that she liked a guy in Bayonetta 3. Once these people online "claim" a character, they're only ever going to get pissed off if things don't turn out the way they want or conform to their headcanon. They just can't imagine that two girls living together aren't automatically proof that they're in a relationship especially when the only relationship shown between the Bayonetta and Jeanne has been rivalry and sisterhood. So it's not surprising that they're doing something like this.
Twittards defending Bridget being trans despite all of the issues with that: "The creator said it, case closed". Twittards defending Yamato being trans: "Fuck whatever the creator said". I think this clears it more than anything else.
People who use Kaido's speech as argument into their view in Yamato's sexuality just don't understand old culture and costumes. Basically, the elder son is the heir of everything the father has but, since he has only Yamato, a daughter, usually her husband would inherit and command what Kaido may left. Now, for her to work so hard to prove herself strong and smart enough to be understood and called as "son", it's an honor. This is just a way people in the past used to show their respect for their daughters efforts, saying implicitly that: "even though i don't have a son, my daughter is stronger and smarter than any son i could have and she's worthy to inherit everything i have".
that is never proven though, that it has anything to do with inheritence. What is she inheriting anyway from a fool that won't die ? Honestly it could also be mockery.
Kaido isn't a person to call Yamato his "son" out of "respect", Kaido literally imprisoned Yamato for her whole life lol. So saying that Kaido calls Yamato his son because of his daughters efforts, what efforts? She literally couldn't do anything because she was imprisoned. It may be old culture, but I don't really think it applies here. I think Kaido calls Yamato his "son" is because he's just disappointed he got a daughter and copes by calling her his son.
I have a trans friend that has actually moved away from anything to do with the trans community specifically because of stuff like this. Quoted straight from her, "Why should it matter what anyone else is? They always want to complain that people get a say about what goes on in their pants, but then throw a fit about what's in someone else's pants."
Transexuals are being threated by Transgender people i swear to god, we have people "Identifly" as trans (and they didn't even put any effort in their transitions) yelling rights at people faces. I feel bad for your friend
The trans "community" has become massively toxic and only care to take from others, then claim it doesn't happen by gaslighting. Calling others crazy when they screech their headcanon wasn't reality.
I want to say own opinion into the mix as well. What your trans friend have valid point but you can't just blame the few people to make the whole community. As trans women myself, trans community only want the "pant check" to stop ands I agree. Anime fanbase is a toxic wasteland. Adding any LGBTQAI+ is like adding fire in the toxic wasteland. They explode with rage. Just her know this, Trans community like me is going to keep fighting for our rights even you don't want any part of the community.

Here's an understanding of who Yamato is: - She's the daughter of Kaido, it's directly said to us on the manga panel intro. - She has been abused by Kaido as far as we know since childhood and Kaido call her 'son'. Implying two or both of things. 1. Kaido wanted a first-born son. Given how he treats his pirate crew outside of the 3 Calamities and the Flying 6. Only the strongest in his crew is how he treats his crew. That's carried over in the 3 Calamities and the Flying 6. 2. Needed a son to be Shogun of Wano. Treating his child nothing but a front trophy on Wano 3. Or both. Either way, Kaido calls her 'son' despite she's female. - Whatever friends she made in her childhood were crucified for even feeding her and guiding her and encouraging. - She had nothing till she witnessed Kozuki Oden and idolized him to the extreme. - Took it extremely that she tried to be Momo's dad. Those were played off as comedic scenes. - Can be clearly seen that Yamato suffers an identity crisis with the abuse of her father, physically, mentally, and verbally. She was even cuffed with a device to explode if it was removed/tampered. - Yamato being in the same bath, doesn't equate being trans. It's associate to her being carefree, that's her keeping the spirit of Oden's carefree. - Kaido and his crew calls Yamato the Oni Princess. Confirming two things: 1. Yamato and her father are Oni descendants. 2. Yamato is a princess, confirming she's female. - Ace's crew in Yamato's past also said to Ace that she's Kaido's daughter. They knew who she is and her ties to Kaido. - Luffy even knows Yamato is a woman but doesn't care about the details behind Yamato. He's more focused on Kaido and Big Mom to free Wano and step closer to Pirate King. These are all things that happened in both manga and soon anime. These are in front of us, but this IS Twitter we're talking about when it comes to Yamato.
Being a tomboy doesn't instantly make you trans sometimes tomboys can call themselves kings because it sounds way cooler and usually kings have the most power even claiming to be a son doesnt make you trans look at fate modred she is always talking about the son of a powerful kings who wasn't given any chance to express herself outside of ruling camelot
Not just Mordred. Artoria herself goes by "King" and even male pronouns, not because she identifies as male but because she demands the same respect as a man.

Yamato is a deadass fangirl to the point of imitating Oden. If a young girl wanted to be superman, they want to act like superman in everyway, Yamato is no diff.
The funniest thing about this whole argument is that it’s made a point in the story, that Yamato is a girl. But because she’s young and starts defying her father as a child by wanting to be like Oden, who is both a samurai and a pirate, she begins referencing herself by his name… the same way children do when they play and pretend to be Batman or Superman or any other character they admire… Kaido despises this notion of rebellion coming from his child so he protests the fact that anyone else could be Oden, because he himself had a great deal of let’s call it “warriors” respect for Oden and his feats against him in battle.. so much so that he executed the woman who deceived Oden during the climax of their fight… And because of his own personal respect for Oden, and his daughter desiring to take on his name and will… He then instead of treating her like a girl decides to treat her like a man, which begins to make the punishments she received much, much harsher than when she was being viewed as a woman, he then goes on to execute capital punishment towards anyone caught giving her preferential treatment as a woman, because he believes Yamato has to suffer as a man would… Implying that men go through much harsher things in the world and that women have it easier. Which is why it makes it funny to me because I’m pretty sure the trans community wouldn’t want to even acknowledge all these facts within the story of One Piece and Yamato’s arc…
Sounds like an arc that will be cut entirely by Crunchyroll, until the fanbase kicks up enough of a fit about it, at which point they make a half-assed fuck-the-fans straight up edited version of the arc, completely bombing the dub therein and they discontinue its production.
Don't you know, according to the activists, there's no such thing as tomboys, or pretending to be someone else. A slightly masculine woman must be trans... For some reason...
I feel now its practically a guarantee when they officially do the dub they are going to have Yamato specifically use the phrase "I identify as male" and try to stay as far as they can from saying it's for Oden.
@@chamakpower5558 I feel that would of been seen more as derogatory where this is more of in support of and as times keep going that seems to be the more important thing then staying accurate
Hope Oda pulls his status and takes away the rights of the dubbing company. Mangaka should defend their work especially when their work is massively popular and pulling in money as they have way more power than they think.
Yamato seems like such a good character, so it’s such a shame that people get so hung up on the smallest of shit nowadays. Oda shouldn’t be blamed at all considering it’s not a problem around the world, just the U.S.
Give it to the western media to do something like this. This apply not just to One Piece but to every translated game/anime/manga where characters are mislabeled to please the western fans. While the rest of the world is like “the fuck you doing, western fans?”

Funny thing is Okiku is right there, the trans representation they want in that same arc, but she's not as popular and they want to claim the one that's really popular
They don't want representation; they want a popular, beloved character to represent them because then they can feel loved vicariously through the character. It's kind of sad.
@@angelphoenix7784 I wished more companies know that. We could've gotten better services and products if companies stop taking twitter freaks so seriously.
It's kind of sad that so many people don't even look into the fact that Japanese pronouns aren't even gender-indicative the same way that English ones are. They are more about self-image and how that person interacts with others than they are about the gender of the one being described by that specific pronoun... Yamato is treating the concept of identifying as Oden like either LARPing (as mentioned in the vid) or like 'Oden' is an identity that is being worn, NOT like any sort of gender dysphoria that I've ever heard of. ;w;
Big mom did have similarity male pronoun in japanese because she's a strong woman that's why her pronoun called in masculinity term but Yamato can't translate "She" while Big mom did have male term pronoun for a long time. There is clearly bias here I blame the official translator (who also support LGBT+) did misinformed that way
So we're at the point of time that people denied Official's information (Oda's confirmation of Yamato being a women) and chooses to trust headcanons and think it's canon to the franchise. Wow, talking about Humanity is the most Intelligence species on Earth
Reminds me of my 5th grade science teacher who would always say that humans were the most intelligent species on earth and how he envied my generation because we were going to grow up to see things he could only dream of. Sure I got to see smart phones and the start of AI but I also get to see actual human adults blatantly ignore facts in favor of opinions and seeing actual truth take a backseat to "my truth"
*Looks over at the 4Kids Dub* Me: Perhaps we treated you too harshly. Also seriously what the hell is this? Why the hell would they do this and who is this even for??? At least when 4Kids Dubbed the show they’re not defying Oda….
Up...they removed entire sections of the story (i.e. Little Garden). So yes, they DID defy Oda. The only difference is that they didn't understand that One Piece was never intended to have little kids as its target audience, as opposed to the malicious bastardization of a beloved franchise and the purposeful changing of the intended story and narrative to appease a mob of lunatics that is the current Crunchyroll dub situation.
4kids dubs and their runty children mostly come from ignorance or stupid in-jokes. failing that, it's altering out of concern for limited reach for various reasons, including age range differences and what comes from that, plus things like relgiious references. I utterly despise the mark 4kids has left, but to me, it's got nothing on utterly rewriting characters and stories to suit modern nuts on twitter, when we have the net to compare differences more readily, and SHOULD have a better cultural understanding and respect of the story itself.
I admit I don't like One Piece. I however, hate seeing a man who put himself into something he loved. To see it burned to the ground. The netflix show is going to be bad. Not as bad as Bepop.
Death threats should never be allowed on social media PERIOD! Anyone who does it should have their account terminated and should get some jail time as well.
In a series with heavily respected and clearly defined trans/queen characters like Ivan, O-kiku, and the OG Bon Clay it baffles me that people still try to put Yamato under that umbrella and then get mad at others when there's clear disagreement
Maybe they want to claim everything as LGBT+/eradicate sexual "normalcy"? I genuinely don't know. They're all parasitic cultists at this point and oughta have their opinions disregarded.
I know right? Oda never shied away from representing trans, queer or otherwise, if he intended Yamato to be a trans he would have done just as he did with Kiku on the same freaking arc. I dont see anyone debating that Kiku is a woman as she said it herself because that was Odas intent, we have great characters like Iva-chan and Bon-chan who are well liked and respected because they are above anything GOOD CHARACTERS
The thing that always makes me laugh is people using the bath scene as proof Yamato's male, when it's clearly played up for laughs. Yamato is so obsessed with the thought of being Oden, that she's willing to bath with the men instead of the women. Then, we get some of the male characters shocked that Yamato is in the bath with them, while Sanji does his typical "nose bleed and knocked back" thing he does when he sees a hot woman
So weird that everyone wants to assume this character's gender so badly. Then after being corrected, they continue to intentionally misgender her, something they would call a hate crime if anyone did it to them.

It's genuinely sad that anime fans basically have to keep correcting people about lore now. It makes me hate how mainstream anime is because it is clear that there are a lot of people out there who just jump on the bandwagon but probably don't consume much anime or who aren't even consuming anything and get false information from, say, friends and feel some need to correct actual fans.

Pretty sure these types are among those who normalize the hatred of strong male role models in our modern culture, both in reality & in works of fiction. The only time they see any male person or character as worth standing on the side of is if they identify as a homosexual and/or transgender woman. Or queer, maybe, but that's it. The worst part is that there actually is a card for someone who is trans in the series. Okiku is described as 心は女 (kokoro wa onna - heart is woman), which is the term used for someone who is mtf trans in japanese. The equivalent term is not used for yamato. Just look up "Okiku vivre card" and "Yamato vivre card" and compare the gender section. Okiku's clearly says "男 (心は女)" - "male (heart is woman aka trans)". While Yamato's only says "女" - "female". If she was specified as trans, like Okiku was, it would also be mentioned there (as "心は男" - "heart is man"). But it wasnt, she is only female (which is interchangeable with woman in japanese, they use the same term for the gender and the sex).

How disrespectful to the character and HER arc. If anything it's more of a testament to grooming/forcing gender ideology onto your child. Keido literally spent years forcing her to be raised as a boy and calling her his son, and the end result was her trying to personify her father's greatest rival. I'm not sure if Yamato ever actually said whether she identified as male for female as Yamato, everytime she would refer to herself as "he" it was when she was putting on the act of being Oden.

They are doing what they did to all other forms of entertainment, they are trying to take it over. Just atm they have a fight in video games. Why respect the material that makes money for you when instead you can use it as a tool to push your own ideas? If nobody stops you or dares to say the dreaded "No" to you, this is the kind of person you become.
I like how an abusive father was made into a supporting argument. If people were so against petite woman in anime, then they are just as messed up LOL. Besides, Yamato is an oni princess. She was identified as son only before her identity was revealed.
I'd hate to see what they'd use to claim Ryuunosuke (Urusei Yatsura) as trans....then again, Ranma's been called an "aquatranssexual" for a while now, so I should be used to these "let's ignore all context to push our wants" arguments.
@@hendreor.m6685 Ranma Saotome, the main character from Rumiko Takahashi's "Ranma 1/2", changes gender when splashed with cold water, as per the curse inflicted on him (and others, but they change into other things). Being splashed with hot water reverses the effect. The character's been perceived as trans in some fashion (albeit using outdated language), solely because of this ability to shape-shift (at least since the mid-90s), and like pretty much every other instance, ignores any and all context of the story in order to make that perception.
@@2097Pyros Ranma is also the worst possible example to use, since he wants to be a guy full time which he started out as and identifies as, and wants the curse gone, and only uses the girl half when it's convenient for him. @@ZanathKariashi Remember when I said that they IGNORE ALL CONTEXT? Ranma was one of the earliest examples, and I considered all of that, which is why I use him as an example of someone they'd claim as trans. Part of it is them seeing any sort of gender-based shapeshifting as code for non-binary/trans/genderfluidity status. I'm honestly surprised that these psychos haven't gone after Ukyo Kuonji or any of the cast that revolves around her, like Tsubasa Kurenai and Konatsu. I mentioned Ryuunosuke from Urusei Yatsura earlier. While they haven't claimed her as trans, they HAVE largely seen her as lesbian, mostly because of her gender non-conforming appearance (because these people see ANY gender non-conformity as code for LGBT status), as well as some interactions between her and other women. But again, this ignores all context of those interactions, which were to learn how to act "like a girl", something her daddy does NOT want her to do.
What baffles me the most about this whole controversy is from my understanding there is already a trans character in one piece but I almost never hear get talked about by the usual suspects that cry about diversity. Like why do they choose fixate on this character when they clearly isn’t trans when there already is a Tran character?
Because the trans character isn't as attractive or as popular as Yamato. Kikunojo/Okiku/Kiku is just kind of generic looking, a 5 or 6 to Yamato's 8.5-9 and they're salty that it's a plain side character that gets the trans treatment. Never mind that there's other LGBTQ characters in the series, like Ivankov and the Newkama(Newhalf/Trans + Okama/crossdresser) from Kamabakka king/queendom which is literally translated as the "(Island)Full of transvestites" Because that is literally what it is. An entire island of men "with the hearts of a maiden." which is one of the Japenese flowery terms for trans. And yet the LGBTQ community won't claim them because they all look like Dr Frank-N-furter tier transvestites, which is a given since Ivankov is a direct reference to the character from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Never mind again that Ivankov is actually really GOOD character, well written, funny and interesting. No it's all about appearances and having them appear like a stereotypical crossdresser offends them for some reason.
Yamato called herself his son because only the son could take the fathers position. Yamato also only wants to be Oden not a Man. It’s a vast difference.

Everytime someone to tell me to just watch dub, while being condescending, I always think of Crunchyrolls and shit like this happens, it also happens to subs as well but there are fan subs, rarely fan dubs that is just abridged versions
Exactly this. One of the biggest things that's turned me away from trying English dubs when there are subs available for a product is the knowledge that it has likely not been faithfully translated. It's become a lot less about which one sounds better and more of which one is faithful. I just wish fan subs were a thing for video games because there are video games out there I'd love to play but the English versions of them are basically entirely different games because they aren't accurate translations (and sometimes it is even hard to tell if that is on purpose because they're trying to 'soften' things because of Western sensibilities).
Oda has already confirmed she's just a normal woman. The Twitter freaks responded by wishing death on Oda. Excuse me if I don't take the head canon of these freaks seriously.
Her character seems very similar to naoto from persona 4, Thinking that she would have to pretend to be a man to be taken more seriously when in reality she's perfectly fine the way she is.
right? Years later when alphabet shit leaving sewage that they should have stay for eternity the claiming start by zoomers. Seriously this was so good back then. The word trap, tomboy and cross dresser was so common in subs. Came these asshole everything need to bend to their well.
This is why these Japanese creators need to cut ties with these American companies especially when activism has been skyrocketing in America for the last 3 years.
or American creators should look how any lgbt things are handled in japan I say this multum times Japan make lgbt thing much more better than America nowadays
Yamato doesn’t want to be a man, she wants to be Oden. Oden just happened to be a man. She would still be pretending to be Oden if he was a woman, so it’s not a gender thing. Idek why tf people are fighting over her so much when there is already a trans woman in this arc who is a badass. Okiku was asked by Chopper about actually being a guy and straight up answered “I’m a woman at heart.” That’s way more clear cut, you don’t even need to argue with people when that one quote is all you need. Oda makes it very clear when a character is meant to be LGBT.
I'm not surprised Crunchyroll would do this. This is the same company that thought High Guardian Spice was fine to ship out. I really wish they'd keep their politcal agendas out of the anime
This just proves they are being selective with this because when onimai was announced the rainbow mafia wanted to claim the mc as one of them until they found it was a loli then they all ran away and never mentioned the series again, curious dont you think?🤔
Saw someone unironically claim that it doesn't matter what Oda says when several characters in-universe are calling Yamato a man. One would think that if the characters say one thing, and the author says another, the author's word would have more weight, but what do I know? 🙄
Yep, only willing to support the author viewpoint when it's one they already agree with. When it doesn't, under the bus the author goes, in full-on "Death of the Author" mode.
Exactly. Actual fans: Bridget isn't trans. Twitter freaks: Yes she is, the creator said so! Actual fans: Yamato isn't trans, Oda said so. Twitter freaks: What Oda says doesn't matter!
The author literally wrote the words the characters say. There is no "characters vs author" it's literally all author. Some of these people are forgetting that none of these characters are real and that they only reason why any of these characters exist in the illusion of our mind is because Oda, quite literally, made them up he pulled them straight out of his own ass. Every word, every sentence, every conversation, fight, relationship...it's all Oda. You can't try to contradict the author with the words of a character he literally made say those words. He knows the thoughts of the character that we can't see. No one knows those characters more than him because they continue to exist in his mind. The audacity to try to claim a series or character for yourself and make independent decisions about it and then ignore the edict of the author to propagate your own wrong interpretation is disgustingly narcissistic.
This is why I rarely watch any animes in dub, not because of the actors in general, but their poor choice of words, yet they are talented, the only good dubs I like were Death Note, Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Cowboy Bebop.
This reminds me of something people rarely talk about VAs. I think is wrong VAs using character voices freely for their own purposes(like headcanon/ships) to satisfy the fandom, because they are mischaracterizing and spreading false information about the characters, especially something that is not canon or without the consent of the authors.
I am pretty sure like 89% that the tweet isn't something the VA has a headcanon with. I am pretty sure that was Crunchyroll grooming the tweet to work with their localization and political outlook. I would not be surprised if there was a contract that had a Copywriter making that tweet for the announcement.
@@thisusernameisalreadytaken5132 As I remember now, there's a VA from Genshin Impact who uses the character voice for ship reasons, using his voice in anime events for fans/shippers and even makes parody songs for that ship, which completely mischaracterizes the character and many people think that the ship is canon because of this, which is confirmed in the game that it is not, but the fandom obviously ignores that and starts with mistranslation arguments everytime.
I thought it was very specifically against the contract to play the character outside of the roles you're paid for. And making up things about your character would be messing with copyright because you do NOT speak for the company. For example sometimes they had to put warnings before a commentary track saying "The actors opinions do not represent those of this company."
Ah yeah Yamato have a great backstory and and also showed that people have a reading comprehension equal to -20 it’s also surprising that a VA who technically should analyze the story and read about the character doesn’t do that, also as a curious fact as u may know Boku is a soft male pronoun, nowadays I have send irl women use it so, and in anime Boku is used with tomboy-ish characters and characters like Bon clay, if u pay attention to dialogues of characters with this type of characteristic they tend to use Boku
so we are now ingoring the creator of one piece cause people want to think a person is trans so they can i guess voice the role? remember people use common sense
Rev probably forgot to mention that Rojas has a Trans flag on their bio. I have a feeling Rojas is one of those "Yamato is trans" people on Twitter and its already souring my mouth.
Yamato is one of the more complex and nuanced characters in the whole franchise, but she's clearly 100% not trans to anyone who has 2 functioning brain cells.
Yamato battle isn't worth fighting. She is a woman assuming the role of Oden. And in her role as Oden, you may very well refer to her as him. It is like running into that girl at a convention who is cosplaying as Luffy. She is a male character, so referring to her with "him" works, even if you were to talk about the core person behind the cosplay, it would be a her (unless they are woke, and are special pronouns)
Should probably add more contract clauses that if localizers continue to taint the original content with their political bs, license instantly revoked.
@Revsaysdesu one more thing to support the obvious, Yamato first animated appearrance (voiced and all) is in a commercial showing One Piece Strong FEMALE Characters. I also fear what other country dubs will do to this part.
This could be breaking the contract giving Crunchyroll the right to dub the show. Some of those contracts are insanely strict while others might simply forbid changing the characters names.

I think there might also be an angle when it comes to reincarnation and spirituality. Remember Japan is a nation that believes in reincarnation.
@umbraemilitos
No, that is what it means though.

Being a tomboy is different from being trans. Yamato is a tomboyish in nature. She is a strong woman, which some certain LGBT people don't understand.
Queer people don't know a strong woman when they see one? HAH.

Here's an understanding of who Yamato is:
- She's the daughter of Kaido, it's directly said to us on the manga panel intro.
That's carried
over in the 3 Calamities and the Flying 6.
2. Needed a son to be Shogun of Wano. Treating his child nothing but a front trophy on Wano
Confirming two things:

If a young girl wanted to be superman, they want to act like superman in everyway, Yamato is no diff.
yamato just see's oden as her "He's literally me" role model and just has a deep admiration for him.
The funniest thing about this whole argument is that it’s made a point in the story, that Yamato is a girl. But because she’s young and starts defying her father as a child by wanting to be like Oden, who is both a samurai and a pirate, she begins referencing herself by his name… the same way children do when they play and pretend to be Batman or Superman or any other character they admire…
Kaido despises this notion of rebellion coming from his child so he protests the fact that anyone else could be Oden, because he himself had a great deal of let’s call it “warriors” respect for Oden and his feats against him in battle.. so much so that he executed the woman who deceived Oden during the climax of their fight…
And because of his own personal respect for Oden, and his daughter desiring to take on his name and will… He then instead of treating her like a girl decides to treat her like a man, which begins to make the punishments she received much, much harsher than when she was being viewed as a woman, he then goes on to execute capital punishment towards anyone caught giving her preferential treatment as a woman, because he believes Yamato has to suffer as a man would…
Implying that men go through much harsher things in the world and that women have it easier.
Which is why it makes it funny to me because I’m pretty sure the trans community wouldn’t want to even acknowledge all these facts within the story of One Piece and Yamato’s arc…
They might not even realize at all that "Tomboy" and "Tomgirl" exists

Pretty sure these types are among those who normalize the hatred of strong male role models in our modern culture, both in reality & in works of fiction.

Also because kaido never referred to her as his daughter.

Crunchywoke deserves to be boycotted like Budweiser!
This reminds me of something people rarely talk about VAs.
I think is wrong VAs using character voices freely for their own purposes(like headcanon/ships) to satisfy the fandom, because they are mischaracterizing and spreading false information about the characters, especially something that is not canon or without the consent of the authors.
Can you give some examples?
I haven't seen this much, but I don't doubt it happens knowing the dub industry.
Something similar happened a while back when the VA for Thirteen from MHA claimed that Thirteen was non-binary, despite her being confirmed as Female.
The bath argument was such a crazy reach because there have been many panels with Ezra Natsu and grey in a bath and no one would say she’s trans

Long story short: Yamato is not transsexual, she is Odensexual lmao.
Pretty much sums it up imo.
Exactly, that's what I thought, how can you voice this character if you know nothing about them and only using head cannons as your source material
When the man himself says that the character is a woman, the character is a woman. You are the problem, not Oda.

And that's the reason why I watch anime in its original language
@Revsaysdesu one more thing to support the obvious, Yamato first animated appearrance (voiced and all) is in a commercial showing One Piece Strong FEMALE Characters.
I also fear what other country dubs will do to this part.
And Laboon the whale is an Iceberg. Guess were slowly drifting back to "those" days...
So what happened to sending people, that sends literal death threats, to prison? Is that not a thing anymore?
I always thought Yamato was just roleplaying, saying he's Oden means he is a "boy" and reffers to herself as "him" as long as she is ODEN.
Author: so my character is a girl who want to act like a boy, a tomboy you can say

This could be breaking the contract giving Crunchyroll the right to dub the show. Some of those contracts are insanely strict while others might simply forbid changing the characters names.
