The One Piece dub is actually surprisingly good compared to many dubs. Like Jack said though if you've watched the sub for hundreds of episodes the dub will always sound strange, and vice versa.
Tried to start with the dub and i just can't understand why people watch dubs. Every VA does the same type of contraction of their vocal cordes and I don't understand why. They all sound like they are either on crack or got one chromosome too many.
The dub voices grow on you. That being said, Luffy's VA was definitely more fitting for pre time skip as he wasn't as mature back then. Post time skip Luffy understands a little more of the dangers of the world. I think they definitely made a good attempt to grow Luffy through the English VA after the time skip but theres something that still feels like a naive teenager. Sonny Strait is goated as Usopp.
i love frankys dub voice its literally exactly how i imagined him im pretty fond of it cus his dub is the first voice ive heard of him (i had subs on too for more accurate translation)
It would be fun to see you reacting to the German dub, as it's one of the best dubs for One Piece. I like Robin's and Zorro's German voice actor the most.
yall being bias but at least you acknowledge that you've been too used to the original voices for so long. and I'm glad to see a lot of positive support and comments from everyone else here in the comments section on the dub. Huge one piece dub fan, and both sub and dub have voices that are 'better' than the other or works perfectly similar yet has each their own traits. Like dub's oden was solid, they chose the perfect voice actor for him, exactly how i envisioned oden. whilst sub he sounds like he's 75 even during his teen years like... Dub's mihawk sounds so much more unique and fits him perfectly. and with sub, I was surprised at how I preferred King's calm but not overly deepened voice for him in the sub compared to the dub where it's a bit too predictably deep like the sub voices didn't sound 100% polished when they started off themselves but glad to see a lot of others now appreciating the dub and seeing how great of a job they're doing!
As much as I can appreciate the sub for being iconic, I love the One Piece dub. I think it absolutely nails One Piece's entire tonal range (dramatic, laid-back, completely silly, etc...) and aside from a couple minor characters, I think the casting and direction over the years has been on-point. It's also such a rarity to have a dub cast work on a show this long and remain consistent, and I just think that's pretty special. And just as there are plenty of sub moments that are ingrained in my brain, there are a bunch of moments from the dub that outshine the original for me. Luffy's Jet Gatling scene during Enies Lobby still absolutely gets my jaw on the floor (as do a bunch of Colleen's big screams in general but that's the one if I have to pick just one).

As someone who started watching One Piece dubbed back in 2011 (This was one of my first anime experiences outside of DBZ and Yu Yu Hakusho which I think have overall pretty decent dubs) I think you can really tell who has more experience being an anime voice actor. Usopp and Zoro in particular stand out to me since they both voice characters in DBZ, Zoro is Vegeta/Piccolo and Ussopp is Krillin. To some extent I think Sanji and Nami will grow on you as well. That being said, I think your guys' point about it sounding like a Saturday morning cartoon voice rather than something more serious really holds true in the way a lot of western voice actors portray anime character. Theres this level of insincerity that I think most people get in the form of cringe when watching anime for that reason. Side note, something that I really like is that the English voice actor for both Krillin in DBZ and Usopp in One Piece are the same person and the Japanese voice actors for both Krillin and Luffy are the same person. Completely unrelated I'm sure but being someone who started out as a kid watching DBZ it just makes One Piece that much more connected to my nostalgia for anime.

Since I was introduced to One Piece via 4kids and I read the manga while watching both sub and dub nowadays, it has all blended together for me. Both Frankys sound like Franky, and both Luffys sound like Luffy.
I wish think it's funny how people react to Frankie's voice depending on if it's dubbed or subbed that they watched first. For example, I personally like Frankie's dubbed voice better because that's what I was introduced to, so that's what I became accustomed to. So it was a major sick when I switched to subbed and heard a voice that is absolutely nothing like what I was used to and therefore didn't like it as much.
I actually prefer the dub, Chris Sabbat IS Zoro, there is no other option in my book, plus I| listen to it while playing MMOs with it on the second monitor. Can't pay enough attention to read the subtitles

I watch one piece in dub and I can admit a lot of the voices sound bad or strange at the start but as the VA's get older with the characters such as luffy the voices are just so much better, they did the characters dirty and picked the times for a lot of them when they sounded the worst if you hear luffy later on it sound so much better.
As a dub only (until the last 40 or so) i feel yall, i am having to watch sub now because im current, and all the charchters sound wrong as hell lol. I absolutely love the dub cast. So i feel the same but from the oposite side. I also binged the entire show in 3.5 months so...they are all really engrained in my head lol, cuz i was living with them for those 3.5 months.

To be fair, Oda personally picked all the English dub VA for the strawhats. So, they have Oda’s approval. Luffy definitely grows on you. Things aren’t gonna sound like they would in Japanese period.
