When you realize that the US later adopted the idea of the machinegunner getting ammo from riflemen decades later with the 249. Japanese machine guns were weird yes but they actually have a reliable and dependable weapon. The italians have similar machine gun that feed by a 30 round clip/tray but theirs was a clusterfuck.
It hurts seeing this thing fully auto with no intervals between 5 shots. Type 11 could never unload the full hopper in one go, it would fire all 5 on the strips then a pause because the next strip would fall, replace the empty stripper clip, and be placed on the feeder. Also the removal of the entire hopper is curse af.
Only enlisted is doing it right by feeding clips but yeah if you shoot 1 bullet a clip disappear in order to put 1 more to fully loaded due lack of animations

I was obsessing about this a few days ago. Occurred to me that it..could be reloaded one stripper clip at a time, but you should be able to interrupt the reload to fire once you had at least one clip in.
Each stripper clip is 5 rounds. If the rounds remaining is not a multiple of 5 (partially used bottom clip), just filling the hopper will not result in a full 30 rounds. So they avoided this by replacing the hopper altogether, unless it's a multiple of 5.

You are right its not how the thing really works, but for thr gameplay reasons it makes sense, reloading is meant to put the number back up to full in arcade shooters, but say you fire two rounds and reload... wtf are they gonna do? you fire five and and a clip ejects you can slap another clip in, you fire twelve you can put two clips in but you still have that 2 round discrepancy, either your gun will randomly be 1-4 rounds unloaded sometimes or they can use video game magic to have the dude rip off the hopper fixing the discrepancy because if you change the whole unit the number can be 30 everytime, a secondary set of animations when appropriate and you are on a count of five to reach 30 properly, and a cool reload for whem you are flat empty thats a bit beefier then just throwing more ammo into it. I do kind of like ripping off the hopper to reload from empty but I get why it's dumb, this gun is very pretty though

It's a bit like the Fedorov Avtomat where they'd issue it with four or five mags, but the loader carried those, and you were really only suppose to use them if shit hit the fan.
