NIGHTWISH "NOISE" LYRICS
Crave the machine
Revere the screen
Zoom in for flak and misery
Bleed some pixels
Shoot yourself
Pose for the dead
Have a near-life experience
In a hot air matrix
Now you're a star
Vain avatar
Feeding the beast
In your loud Egoland
You have become
Tool of a tool
Digital ghouls
Telling you to
Shut up and dance!
Color a yarn and the crowds will gather
Noise
From a sunless world
Your mirror is black, only a copy stares back
At a slave of brave new world
Noise
To decoy the human voice
Brain insomniac, paranoiac
Endless noise
Please love me
See how I bleed
Please endure
I have such empathy in me
Hum, noise, hum
Beautifully numb
Tapping the quiet air
To have a meaning
By a carrion
Sad hologram
Lost in the maze
The real and human feel
Sunset is free
From this deity
The Earth has a real voice
Go out and get in
I will follow
Color a yarn and the crowds will gather
Noise
From a sunless world
Your mirror is black, only a copy stares back
At a slave of brave new world
Noise
To decoy the human voice
Brain insomniac, paranoiac
Endless noise
Feast your eyes on the black mirror
Feed the beast, join the gathering
Tell a tale
Feast of fears is drawing nearer
Beyond the human horizon
Something terrifying sleeps
Noise
From a sunless world
Your mirror is black, only a copy stares back
At a slave of brave new world
Noise
To decoy the human voice
Brain insomniac, paranoiac
Endless noise

How mad will they be if even after agreeing with this video, I'm still going to film the whole concert just for the clout?

Thank you for 2.5 million views everyone!! ❤ Just a little over a month left!

Thank you for the music. The epic stories and the little things that make Nightwish what it is.
Looking forward to seeing you live in December.

Thanks Nightwish, for the Canadian date.

#Tuomas - "Noise is a reminder. It's some food for thought. I see it more as an optimistic video than pessimistic. Especially the last 10 seconds of the video, when you see the beautiful forest and the landscape, it should fill you with hope the real world is still out there.
This video is not a criticism about technology or cell phones. Me, all the bandmembers, we love technology. We wouldn't ever have done this record without technology. We love our cell phones, the Internet and all that, but it's a criticism for the addiction that these things cause in human beings. 'Addiction' is the word.
It's such a shame that we have all these wonderful tools that we can for the good, to spread true information and to be connected to the world. I love the idea of social media, I like Twitter, that everybody in the world suddenly has a voice; we have a voice. We can immediately get out there. It's just a matter of what you put out there. And that's what the video is all about."
This is exactly what I saw in this song. There is an old saying, "Too much of anything is bad for you." People always forget this. Moderation and balance in is important, even more so with so many extremes trying to pull the fabric of society apart at the seems.
Tuomas you are legend 😊😊
Most things are good in moderation.
Okay, that's good to hear. I was about to roll my eyes at yet another sanctimonious "we live in a society" preachfest, but this is much more level headed.
Imagine missing so much your goal (or reaching it, but regretting it then) that all your fans are complaining in the comments, so you need to make a statement to explain you were not saying what the videoclip was saying.
(Because, like, the accusations of vanity - mostly against women, of disconnection with ancestral art, of fake political engagement, etc, are not just criticisms against "addiction"... And think of it: do you really have to criticize addictions? Would you say to an alcoholic that addiction is bad? They would say: "yes and so? How do I escape?" Because here, it is all about shaming those who are suffering from addictions, not helping them. I always liked Nightwish despite our non matching political views, but here, to deny the meaning of that videoclip, that's a commercial hypocrisy to keep fans. Keep it in mind, we were still listening to you despite our oppositions in ideas, don't fake yours to "seduce" us.)
When you’re actually using your phone more than usual to listen to a song about the evils of social media...such is the confusing power of Nightwish. This song is fantastic!
Actually....when you are using your smartphone to watch the video...it's ironic, isn't it?....
@@teegee9301 But in this case you're using it to appreciate art, you aren't using it as a distorted replacement for something in real life or for an ego crutch. I think the message of the video is more of a criticism of those people.
@@teegee9301 However, it IS ironic that there are already people posting 'lyric videos' to try and leech views from Nightwish.
@SynphamyOfficial And yet here we are in the comments section instead of having this same discussion with people in real life.
@@duskyrc1373 But discussion and sharing views isn't a bad thing, this conversation is a positive one. Plus none of my RL friends like Nightwish so i have nobody else to discuss the video with lol

First thing that comes to mind: "Were you paying attention, Neo? Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?"
Exactly.... but, as you can see, a lot of people here are wondering: "what are the red dress woman doing in the video?" or "what is her name?" So, they not paying attention.
@@montresor6770 Precisely! That's one of the reasons she is present in the video.
@@scoobynetThat's right, Morpheus!
And who's that blonde hottie, after all?
A programmable decoy 😄
I can’t believe I haven’t heard this until now. But you know, not knowing a Nightwish song is a wonderful thing because then you can get to experience listening to it for the first time, seeing the story for the first time.
And I wasn’t disappointed. Honestly I don’t even know what I listened to because I was so immersed into the story and everything they were trying to tell. I mean I heard the song, it was amazing, but the song and lyrics fit everything so well that I got sucked into their world even more. One moment I was jamming out to the beginning of the song and the next it’s the end and I’ve been sitting here for a couple minutes, not noticing that time even went by. I don’t even remember when I stopped jamming and started just sitting here watching. I think that’s when you know that you found an amazing song. When you sit down and for a couple minutes you forget about everything because the song sucks you into a different world. And when that happens multiple times with different songs, you know you found a genius band. Nightwish is genuinely not just a band, their songs aren’t just songs. Everything here is an experience. That’s the best I can sum it up.
All ask about the name of the blonde in the video: Marco Hietala !!!

This video is what I love about metal. The metal genre always had a way of feeling the pulse of humanity and all its pitfalls. From the days of Black Sabbath to todays current crop of metal talent, metal will always get it. Props to Nightwish for having the staying power in the metal universe. Long live NIghwish and female fronted metal bands!
🙏 🎸💥 YES!
I just love these pictures the video creates. The one who shows himself as king but in reality is full of shit. I know some of those. A mother who shows herself and her daughter as a happy family while the little one is literally caged in her mothers vanity... I love it a lot. We like to create a portrait of ourselves and want other people to see us exactly that way. Psychologically speaking in reality we suffer from narcissism and depression caused by our need of instant approval that just got stronger with technology. Technology is an awesome tool but it comes with a price and that is wonderfully captured in my humble opinion. Freaking awesome music and video - as usual. :)
I don't think this is a tear at technology, it's more a rip at modern (internet?) culture. A snake oil salesman selling FatAway and penis enlargement pills who is actually a sad (addicted?) individual, an insta thot who requires constant painful maintenance, a virtue-signalling eco-nut who outwardly loves nature while literally bathing in the products of fossil fuel, and a narcissist parent who keeps their child as a caged pet. All produced for the cult of black mass that consume and consume, ultimately it's all just noise.
The meta-text is that "the child" is force-fed the "noise" from birth until death, never able to notice the beauty of the natural world around them.
Damn you're on point. Perfect breakdown!!
My favourite part is the machine-cultist who gets 'cancelled' as his device suddenly blares a red screen at him...

@@mitja63 I believe the word you are looking for is "nailing it"
All this was happening before smartphones or even the Internet. On TV, radio, newspapers. Smartphones just allow it all to be much more efficient and to capture young people's attention easier. It is not the technology that's the real problem, it's the entities that use them to spread their self-serving propaganda and distractions.

@@ilaly6391 I had to keep reminding myself that😂
The message is not to say " eyh phone are bad". If you think this way you missed the message entirely. It's more about exposure, attention and how to use it. Phone are just a medium.
It's ok to watch from a phone, it's ok to use the medium / media a song denounce and it's even ok, for Nightwish to promote a song on social media who partly blame them.
It's like going to march for climate in your car. It looks ironic, but thats not the point, machines are machines, the uses of machines is human. And the point of the album it's...Human.
How on earth does this band keep getting better and better?
Black magic 🖤
Because, Tuomas Holopainen is a fvcking music genius and legend, that's how. (= of course I'm not belittling all other band members at all, but Tuomas is still the main band songwriter, the band is absolutely competent and all the arrangements they put together, but Tuomas is the main songwriter and he keeps writing absolutely incredible songs, so that's how, Tuomas.

@@ideaantti Floor is not the songwriter, of course her vocals did a great job to NW music, but without Tuomas simply there is no Nightwish...
I've seen people interpreting the message of this song as "phone bad" which is pretty superficial. I think the video makes it pretty clear that it's about how the greed for social media popularity and profit breeds superficiality. It has a clear structure: first they show us how each character presents themselves in social media, then we see what they're like when nobody's looking. In social media, people create hollow avatars of themselves to gather followings. For there to be cultists, there need to be cult leaders.
Fabrizio Illuminati This! 👆🏻
Finally, someone taking a minute to think a little. Thank you.
I think its a little of both actually, not only addiction to devices & media (not just phones) and how it can affect society & parenting, but also the difference in how people portray themselves.

He (and the other members of Nightwish) are not happy with religious fundamentalism, but none of them despided religion. They are very open-minded and tolerant, although they wrote critical songs about some aspects of religion.
For me it isn´t an anti-phone nor an anti-selfie song. It´s about "don´t be fake and don´t accept it". Also it´s about "look a bit around you".

saw the vid a few weeks ago, but it does seem telling that Marko's character is a pill-pushing huckster who is later shown expressing his disgust, spitting out pills, kicking boxes of the product over and so forth. IDK if the band members had any say about the characters they would portray, but it seems that all the vid characters are precisely the extreme opposite of whom they are in real life...Floor is depicted as a selfie-obsessed, controlling mother; Emppu as the one monk in many who stumbles upon something that literally targets him for immediate execution; Kai's very brief cameo as a monk taking a selfie while seditiously flashing devil horns; Marko as the slick pill-pushing huckster; Troy as a a false emperor expecting worship as he sits on a *throne* of soiled gold; and finally Tumoas as a proponent for the nuclear industry going through the motions of being a good civic citizen by hugging trees and so forth. Of course all the characters are unveiled for what they are, with the exception of poor Emppu, who got killed off quickly. Sorry kinda wandered off on a tangent, but that happens sometimes!
I think he need a reset.

Imagine everyone pulling their phones out when this is played live, taking selfies while headbanging. Absolute madness.
And that wont be something bad on itself its just a memorie of what its expected to be a great night, the "problem" i guess, comes when for someone that "selfie" instantly uploaded to "insert social media here" losing a part of the show, or a hug with a friend, or meeting new people at the concert is more important than what is he living at that moment.... im sure you know what i mean ^^
I remember 1 night when i went out for a dinner with some couples and other friends and all of them were checking their phones constantly, so i decided to go pee and send a messege to all of them "Cya soon, or maybe not" at least i found a way to make them talk a while hahahaha meanwhile i was headbanging at my favourite bar talking with people and not machines, taking a drink and doing some nice selfies hahaha :D

Yeah I was at Louvren in October 2019 and let me tell you.. I WISH it was like in the video 😂 her room was by far the most crowded and people didnt give a shit about the other paintings in the room (despite the painting across from her being the biggest painting I’ve probably seen in my life).

"Noise"
Crave the machine
Revere the screen
Zoom in for flak and misery
Bleed some pixels
Shoot yourself
Pose for the dead
Have a near-life experience
In a hot air matrix
Now you're a star
Vain avatar
Feeding the beast
In your loud Egoland
You have become
Tool of a tool
Digital ghouls
Telling you to
Shut up and dance!
Color a yarn and the crowds will gather
Noise
From a sunless world
Your mirror is black, only a copy stares back
At a slave of brave new world
Noise
To decoy the human voice
Brain insomniac, paranoiac
Endless noise
Please love me
See how I bleed
Please endure
I have such empathy in me
Hum, noise, hum
Beautifully numb
Tapping the quiet air
To have a meaning
By a carrion
Sad hologram
Lost in the maze
The real and human feel
Sunset is free
From this deity
The Earth has a real voice
Go out and get in

Feast your eyes on the black mirror
Feed the beast, join the gathering, tell a tale
Feast of fears is drawing nearer

@@paulharris1141 I do usually check there first. This video was posted 2 years ago, and I posted this comment 1 year ago, and it got as many likes as it did, so I'm thinking that they added them later.
I never would've thought that a Nightwish song would be trending in the Netherlands. But this masterpiece actually is trending! I feel so proud for them to finally be recognised by the Dutch people
But it stil isn't on Dutch Radio. I chequed the playlists of all the stations. On 19jan Elan on Radio2 and that's all...

@@FireOfJagz OK, I did something wrong. But let's hope Noise will be broadcasted with a certain frequency at least on Radio3...
I'm from the US
I've already listened to the song like 20 times. Floor is amazing, and really shines in this one. The lyrics are so good and true! I can see why Tuomas really wanted to make a song about this. How the hell do they manage to make such good music album after album, and never manage to make a single bad song? Incredible. Been a fan since 2007 and will forever be one ❤👌
Yeah Tuomas talked about this "noise" in recent interviews with Auri. Good to see he captured some images of that here.
great sound style type
Tuomas is hands down one of the greatest composers of our time.
Very excited for this new album!
True that. One gotta have your Wagners, Vivaldi's, Mozarts etc but Holopainen is the modern day version of a great composer
Hey. Don't forget Hans Zimmer and Thomas Bergersen as well in the Pantheon of insanely talented composers.
@@ArcHelios117 I agree that Zimmer and Holopainen should be mentioned in the same sentence. Very appropriate!
Cornflower of Sweden
Wait a second... You're called "Cornflower of Sweden", and you don't even talk about Thomas Bergesen ? He's actually Swedish himself ! A Zimmer-level Swedish composer...
@@ArcHelios117 Seriously, I've never heard of him. I guess I have some googling to do after I've listened to Noise 18 times more.

I know this because Tyler knows this.
My favorite phrase too, that one hits you in the face!
A treat for the ears AND for the eyes. 😬
Ok, I've been a Nightwish fan since 2000. I do believe that they turned the notch up on floor, had her use the vocal styles of all three singers while emphasizing her own....... and on top of that, I heard 'Imaginaerum' switch to 'Oceanborn' and back. As someone who has lived and died by this band since the early days, I highly approve and am now more pumped than ever. Tuomas does not release crap and neither does his band. What a fantastic first impression.
Agreed! What a track! x
No one:
Tuomas: Hehe, ducky.
I can't wait for the awkward moment when they will be performing this live and people in the audience will be recording it on their phones, like they always do, no matter the "please don't" from the band at the beginning of the show:-)
In this year they use "pulse", which makes all phones off..😊
@@harripitkanen1953 That would be the best way to Bring the IRE of the internet upon them.
They really ask their audiences not to record? My gosh, that's freaking awesome.
Or they could pull a Tool and only allow phones for this song
I dont get these people which are paying a lot of money fora concert and then just filming the entire show.
Why?
WHY?
They are killing the whole experience for themselfes.
One, two pictures, 10 seconds video, as a "Souvenir", but thats it, thats all I do.
Because I will feel this, I will get lost in the Music and the crowd, but how should this be possible with a fuckin phone on "Record" the whole time?

Oooh it took me a while to get what Tuomas' character was all about. Based on the teasers and his personality i assumed he was portraying as a simple nature-lover trapped in a hostile world, but he is the embodiment of greenwashing. First he's shown as hippie who defends nature, but later he is literally bathing in oil. You got me, i'll give you that.
I was asking myself exactly the same question, and I came to the same conclusion. A really very current problem of our time really, especially here in germany at the moment... :´(
Alegria, same here in America. Day to day we see “Nature lovers” who block streets in protest but turn to the filth of their own pleasure when they feel no one is in sight. I was quite surprised how deep this would be
It's not greenwashing. Greenwashing barely exist. I think it's more about people who want to be seen as protestors and nature defenders when in fact it's just for their own exposure. They are not doing it for the cause, they are doing it because it's a trend. This isn't against ecology or the cause in itself, more the humans who divert it for their own interest.
In my opinion Tuomas represents those hipster, new-wave environmentalists, who - for the sake of likes - show a picture of perfect nature-loving, zero waste attitude but behind the scenes are as wasteful as an average person.
What's green washing?
I see lots of comments saying this has an Imaginaerum vibe. I agree, but I don't see why this would be bad. Imaginaerum was a true masterpiece and I couldn't be happier if some elements of a few songs had the same vibe. I didn't expect this and am really impressed, looking forward to the album release! Kudos
This one not only reminds me to Imaginaerum, also the beggining of Game Of Thrones Main Theme
I mean. Is THE SAME COMPOSER. People needs to relax and enjoy this new single and video. Better than ANY song and video from other bands, and the whole production (music and video) are outta this world
Imaginaerum to this day is my favorite album. Most of the times doesnt matter the band when new album is released there is always 1,2,3 songs i dont really like that much.Imaginaerum doesnt have such song
@@tonnykenneth I enjoy the song, the music video was disappointed for me. Of course we already know than Nightwish composer is the same as always (Tuomas Holopainen) but honestly dont understand this one
@@ArturoPerez-si2xk ok just read the lyrics and you'll understand. Anyway this video has an incredible production and message is clear. A different video for Nightwish but one the of the best to date.
Tuomas said in a interview (FIN newspaper) that "Noise" was heavily influenced by his favourite TV-serie Black Mirror.
The video is noticeably in a similar artistic style to the Imaginaerum period (with Stobe Harju behind it, it's quite understandable), and the music itself is delicious! Engage the countdown to the 10th of April! 😬
Even the song itself has that same "punchy" style in the backing music that Storytime had. Highly reminiscent, but different enough to not be a clone. Wickedly good video and the song gets better and catchier with every listen.
Got tears in my eyes at the end, it opened my eyes in a way and left me very thoughtful...Thank you for that!
Melody in the end is so sad and emotional, hearthbreaking to see that old body and nature...

I must say that the single filled my expectations, and I really did not expect the honest and brutal social criticism, very appropriate to the times we are living.
I noticed certain influences in the song, such as Game of Thrones and The Matrix (especially in the final part). Once again, Nightwish raises us in the Vehicle of Spirit for another great adventure. I can't wait to listen to the entire album.

I started listening to music consciously since I was 12, that’s 48 years ago now. In the 70’s I listened to prog rock and even Deep Purple. I also listened to EW&F en other R&B. My favorite band of all times is Steely Dan, but also love Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton etc. Since Floor was on Dutch TV I became enchanted by her singing and started to dig into her music. Symphonic Metal? Never heard of that since 2 months ago. What did I miss all these years! Now I have all the live Blu-ray of NW with Floor, downloaded the Albums and even bought a NW T-shirt! How crazy can you get at the age of 60? I’m watching this on my big stereo and TV screen every day, cannot get enough of it.
Update: I got a ticket for NW in Amsterdam on 23rd November! It was almost sold out, I got literally the last one on that website! I’m going through my second youth here. 😜

"Beyond the human horizon, Something terrifying sleeps." This one seems quite underrated line in the comments. It feels and sounds like technological singularity is sleeping dormant under all that noise we are making. Not yet existing, but kind of waiting for its opportynity to exist as we have are confused by the noise and cannot recognize it. I don`t know if that`s what Tuomas was thinking, but it seems to be (to me) very impactful interpretation.
I've been listening to NW for twenty years and never get bored.
Me too. :) Their production is really diverse.
I just released I've listened to NW for almost 8 years.
I have known and liked NW for 10 years, but it wasn't until two years ago that I fully FULLY got into them. I've been thinking a bit on why we don't get bored of them. Every song is so different but there are almost always elements/sounds where you can tell that this is Nightwish. From Angels Fall First to Human :||: Nature, every song is like that. I love it.
Or in a car
15 years and I still love them. Some songs still give me butterflies in my stomach or I somehow discover new meanings to songs I didn't pay much attention to before.
Nightwish rule. So damn happy to hear this, its brilliant and definitely has me the most excited for an album since Imaginaerum.

The two black figures moving in alternate vertical rythym, portraying crude oil extractors, still evident in many parts of the World, to this day.
This video is a minor masterpiece in itself and on repeated viewings, more gems become apparent.
The young woman in red.....Little Red Riding Hood, becomes sexualized as a social media influencer and enchantress.
The loss of innocence and lust for greed, all on the back of carbon.....coal and oil, ironically producing the devices we all use.
I don't think Tuomas' intention was to make us feel guilty about using our devices, after all they are only tools.
He is pointing out we have become addicted and slaves to them.
Great artists absorb and reflect their environment so as to show us our reality.
Tuomas has done this brilliantly and this is only one song off what appears to be a masterpiece.
'Noise' is not sound, per se, it is the constant bombardment of information and stimulation we are exposed to 24/7.
As a matter of interest, Tom Petty addressed this very issue 3 decades ago with a song called 'Jammin' Me'.
By the breadth of the reaction to this video, it appears to be having the affect Tuomas probably intended, put down your device, look around you, actually 'talk' to people and appreciate Nature. If we treat her well, she will respond in kind, for ultimately, we need her, not us her.
Listen to The Sound of Silence, and think about the words with a modern context rather than the time it was written.
