The whole purpose of the song is to take you upward and onward to the spoken Shakespeare section, where you are held suspended for a moment. Then, the soprano voice opens a portal on infinity in front of you. I've listened to it more times than I care to count. I know what is coming, yet I get shivers down my spine every time. Wow. Wow. The Nature part (Ad Astra) of this album has the famous 'pale blue dot' speech from Carl Sagan in it. The previous Nightwish album had a song about evolution with spoken word from (and by!) Richard Dawkins.
Before this we had Sagan - the song. It sadly ended as a b-side, it should have been on the EFMB album, but is a fantastic catchy piece that describes him well.
This is probably one of my favourite songs ever. When I heard it live, I got goosebumps and teary eyes. It's powerful and moving. It's just too beautiful.

G Go From what I’ve heard he said it on a Finnish radio interview recently. Evidently he’s struggling to find good placement of the song live, and how it would translate to the crowds energy-wise. This along with Pan and Tribal are my favourites. Praise be to the stars!
I've just experienced this live. I have no words. Floor managed to sing this perfectly, it was so beautiful, I started to cry at the end. She is really something else.
I think that it's simply music that can make us feel like us. I love Nightwish, to deathcore, to blues, and every song has a different emotion and can blow you away if you connect to it
This song has a deep personal meaning to me. When I was a young child, I really loved space and astronomy. My father also had a huge passion for it and showed me a documentary about the discovery of the Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. I was so fascinated by the footage of it breaking up and impacting Jupiter. My father passed away only five years after Shoemaker did when I was only 13. This song will forever remind me of the love of space that he passed on to me.
BY FAR best song of the entire album! I dare to say this is the most emotional chorus that Tuomas has ever made. So simple yet so strong and together with Ad Astra part took Nightwish to a whole new level of epicness. By the way Floor is beyond words!
This must be the millionth time I have listened to this masterpiece and kinda felt the need to share something with you. My sister passed away last Deceber 22nd. Saying she was everything to me is the minimum I can say to accurately convey what she truly was to me. By losing her, I also lost all hope and will to go on. For weeks after her passing, I simply felt as days went by without actually living. I couldn`t even cry anyomre. Few weeks later, Nightwish released their new album and, being my favorite band since I`m 15, I felt joy for the first time in months. But... when I listened to this (and How`s the heart?), the last part, the gorgeous operatic part, it immediately made me think of my sister. You`ll see... the phrase "laudato si" was first seen or known in a poem written by St. Francis of Asis (considered by many as the first poem ever written in Italian) in which he expressed his gratitude to God for everything around him, even pain and death. St. Francis is my personal favorite Catholic saint, Floor is my favorite singer, and Nightwish my unmatched favorite band, then... all of this together reduced me into a weeping mess as, while listening to the last part, I also silently praised the stars, God and my sister for everything, even the pain. Nightwish made me cry again, made me feel again, and, in a way, it also made me believe again. So, thank you, once again, for being the "vehicle of spirit" the brought my soul back from a pitch black place. And even though I am not yet fine, and probably won`t ever be, at least I have a gorgeous soundtrack to help me and push me through it all.
I feel you. I'm getting divorced. During this awful period, my mother died. In no time I am losing the 2 most important women in my life. The music of Nightwish and Floor gives me oxygen. But it's still hard. Stay strong.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I can fully imagine that Shoemaker made you feel and believe again: its the start of a new hope and life. You will succeed.
This song reminds us that we can celebrate those who have passed before us, and to find the joy and love in the remembrance. After the mourning is done we can still remember the good.
And then there's that moment when nothing about your daily job works and you turn on this song, wait for the end and know "now it's all good". I almost cry every single time. Thank you Nightwish for this piece of art.
I'm in my late 50s, and have been a heavy metal fan since high school. What excited me the most, though, were those few times where a band brought in the orchestral sound. I first saw this with the Scorpions when they did "Still Loving You" with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The combination of metal and orchestra was breathtaking for me. Most recently I have seen this with Heart's live cover (Kennedy Center Tribute) of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." They did an incredible job with the orchestral and choirs. And then four days ago I came across a band I have never heard of before--Nightwish. I was watching a reaction video to "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken and I can say without doubt it is my favorite metal song of all time. Not only did it have the perfect blend of orchestral and metal, but the vocals sealed the deal. To me metal is not just about energy, energy, energy. It's about aggressive conviction with reflection and tenderness. That's what Floor was for me in Ghost Love Score. Most of the song is not her belting it out. But rather the soothing, calm, majestic lower registers (I love the minor keys). That song epitomizes that ultimate sound for me. I've heard this style described as "symphonic metal." Next came the Shoemaker. I have only listened to it twice (I have listened to the entire album twice.) It's very different than Ghost Love Score. More than anything else Shoemaker/Human Nature to me is about drama--a play, an opera, a ballet, a Broadway musical. You see dramas in theaters. It seems to me that "theatrical" is the core of this album. Metal is still there, but plays a supporting role. This isn't symphonic metal... ...It's "Metal Theater."
Hey Bill! You'll certainly love The Poet and The Pendulum by Nightwish as well. It's a masterpiece! Personally I love this live version: ruclips.net/video/iEzZRMthhXU/видео.html I'm sure you will love it too!
Anybody else bursting in tears with the heart going on fire from when Shakespeare's quote comes in till the end of the video? The visual combined with the voices and melodies are one of the most beautiful mystical experience I've ever had.
I have been a loyal fan from the very beginnings. But this...words fail me. A breathtaking masterpiece with a breathtaking story, once again. Tuomas, Floor, Nightwish - thank you for existing, you are redefining music, human, nature, inspiration and emotion all in one.
I imagine a huge LED screen in the back... smoke, lights blue, Floor's hair blowing in the air. On the screen we see that planetary alignment, the Sun, Earth and the Moon, and Floor doing that final part on a live show. All the audience just with their jaws hanging, opened mouths in pure awe, waiting for the finale to give them the most waited applause. And after all that, she just gives us the most humble "thank you" that she can.
I'm not sure they will play it live. There are parts of the final section that are very difficult if you aren't singing operatically regularly, which is one advantage I suppose that a previous vocalist had. If it went wrong it could sound horrible.
! Merci ! Thank You ! Kitoos ! Viel Danke... Thank you Nightwish, Floor, thank You Lord and the Universe. I'm blessed to be alive and be able to listen to this Treasure. ❤❤❤
I should have commented this months ago, but i finally could hear this song live back in october 2022. And i was there, close to Floor and the band. This long part of my life is now complete. Thank you Nightwish.
Months after the release, I simply cannot let go of this masterpiece. This is probably the most "oceanborney" Nightwish song since Oceanborn itself. Like a love child of Gethsemane and Passion and the Opera, evoking both, repeating neither and adding so much more. Thank you Nightwish and thank you Floor - as someone who appreciated your early work with After Forever, I never had any doubts about your abilities in the first place, but you still surpassed all of my expectations with this album.
3:49 and i'm crying like a baby... Thank you very much. You will always be in my heart. Love you guys. Thanks Floor for the tears. Godess. Thanks Tuomas for beeing a genious. Thank you all for beeig just more.
David Ferreira in that part I totally broke. Even I expected so much from Floor doing operatics, this went so much beyond everything I could have imagined. 😭
And many people still say that "Nightwish is over after Tarja ZzZZZ..." Maybe some fans stopped listening to Nightwish after Tarja leave but A LOT of people are becoming a fan after Floor joined in the band. I understand Tarja's legacy in the band and her voice is absolutely beautiful. But Floor stole my heart. I went to an Nightwish concert with her and she's absolutely AMAZING! Incredible voice, stage presence and a lovely personality.
I'm a fan since the beginning and Tarja was indeed awesome but Floor is something else...she nails it every damm time! Nightwish is even better now imo. They realy are complete now. I will never give up on Nightwish! They made me into what I am now...also a musician and composer thanks to Tuomas and also Hans Zimmer. 😊
Holy hell! This song is out of this world with every member of Nightwish killing it! And floor’s voice always gives me chills-especially with her operatic vocals towards the end !
Posted my message (about how E. Shoemaker's family might react to this song) before noticing this... I certainly hope that she can hear/see this at some point, and if she does, I do believe that she'll appreciate the tribute. It may not be the type of music that she listens to, but I do believe that she'll respect the attention and appreciation of her husband.
Fan of nightwish for over 20 years and i was bullied for people who listened mainstream music..SO proud finally This band is recognized for all their Masterpieces!thanks so much Kiitos for ever!🎇🌎🙏
Same here, fan for 18 years. People thought I am suicidal because of my love for them. Finally more and more people are realizing how genius they all are.
Just incredible after every song I think that this will be my favorite song of the album but I begin to realize that all are amazing for different reasons and all together come together in one grand masterpiece.
This is likely one of the most beautiful and touching voice, song and music I've ever heard with a video that tells the story so nicely. Every little thing is perfectly composed. Thank you, Nightwish.
Very sad news: Dr. Carolyn Shoemaker died this morning. Together with David Levy and Eugene, she was the discoverer of the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, in 1993. She was Eugene Shoemaker’s wife.
This song epitomises one of the reasons why I love Nightwish - breaking down the 'boxes' into which music has been categorised and bringing it all together into one beautiful whole.
Everyone seems to be praising Floors performance on this song which is superb to say the least, but I would also like to pay some respect on the godly performance of Kai in this song. Damn.
Every member of Nightwish, past and present, have been great. That said, I think the others do get lost behind Floor's incredible voice and Tuomas' incredible songwriting. Always felt like this about Alex Lifeson of Rush too. Such a great guitarist, but never gets name called as one of the greats... as he's always standing in the shadows of Peart and Lee.
This song is about Eugene Shoemaker. Here is his story.
Eugene Shoemaker was a geologist and a founder of modern planetary science. He studied craters on Earth and Moon, and realized that they were created by asteroid impacts. Shoemaker was the geology principal investigator for Apollo missions, and he also helped to train the Apollo astronauts that went to the Moon. He himself was a candidate for an Apollo Moon flight but was disqualified after being diagnosed with Addison's disease. Later in life, he said, "Not going to the Moon and banging on it with my own hammer has been the biggest disappointment in life."
Shoemaker spent much of his later years searching for undiscovered impact craters around the world. He died on July 18, 1997, in a car accident in Australia, where he was studying craters.
In 1999, as a recognition for his scientific accomplishments, some of his ashes were carried to the Moon by the Lunar Prospector space probe. His final resting place is close to the lunar south pole, in the Shoemaker crater, named after him.
The Shoemaker's urn was inscribed with a quotation from Romeo and Juliet reading:
"And, when he shall die
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun."
He is the only human buried on celestial body other than Earth. After his death, he finally got to go where he always wanted to be.

This along with Pan and Tribal are my favourites. Praise be to the stars!
I've just experienced this live. I have no words. Floor managed to sing this perfectly, it was so beautiful, I started to cry at the end. She is really something else.
This song live is pure beauty 🥺
I listen to this song every day and I ALWAYS start to cry at the end. The perfection touches me every time.
This is called ART!!!
Are there many artists that can make us feel like this nowadays?
I think that it's simply music that can make us feel like us. I love Nightwish, to deathcore, to blues, and every song has a different emotion and can blow you away if you connect to it
No and that's the problem.
Nightwish are the gods of music. Always taking my breath away. Each song is an absolute masterpiece.
BY FAR best song of the entire album!
I dare to say this is the most emotional chorus that Tuomas has ever made. So simple yet so strong
and together with Ad Astra part took Nightwish to a whole new level of epicness.
Your story brings tears in my eyes,
Recignition of what is my own heart.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I can fully imagine that Shoemaker made you feel and believe again: its the start of a new hope and life. You will succeed.
This song reminds us that we can celebrate those who have passed before us, and to find the joy and love in the remembrance. After the mourning is done we can still remember the good.
a big dose of the most powerful medicine in the world for you dear -- hug medicine --- big virtual hug for you xxx
That operatic part is out of this world! Pure awesomeness!!! ❤
I Love FLOOR😍🔥 & NIGHTWISH.
That ending......
Nightwish is the only band that got me emotionally so many times from their many different songs.
I've had my daily dose of Nightwish. A peaceful sleep awaits me.
Холопайнен - гений. А Флор прекрасна. Я восхищён.
Не сомневаюсь❤
And then there's that moment when nothing about your daily job works and you turn on this song, wait for the end and know "now it's all good". I almost cry every single time. Thank you Nightwish for this piece of art.
Yeah, I have to cry every time I hear this brilliant piece of music.
ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE Toumas is a GENIUS and Floor is a gift from God.
it's not quite his idea - Zbigniew Preisner - Lacrimosa
Last part just speechless.. perfection
I've heard this style described as "symphonic metal."
Next came the Shoemaker.
Personally I love this live version: ruclips.net/video/iEzZRMthhXU/видео.html
I'm sure you will love it too!
u must listen long ones starting from :"Lapi-Beauty Of the Beast-Song of Myself-The Poet and the Pendullum"- there are a lot more also...much more...
You'd probably like the Dutch band "Epica", as well.
Yes, Epica is really great as well, if you liked Ghost Love Score and this song as well, you'd probably like them too.
@@allymatne Thanks. I do like it a lot!
Anybody else bursting in tears with the heart going on fire from when Shakespeare's quote comes in till the end of the video? The visual combined with the voices and melodies are one of the most beautiful mystical experience I've ever had.
The final part... Wow... Left me breathless
I have been a loyal fan from the very beginnings. But this...words fail me. A breathtaking masterpiece with a breathtaking story, once again. Tuomas, Floor, Nightwish - thank you for existing, you are redefining music, human, nature, inspiration and emotion all in one.
I've listened this song more that 20+ times..... My eyes watering every single time..... I just can't control it!!!
This song is out of this world!!!
"Laudato si ad astra"
All praise be to the stars
I imagine a huge LED screen in the back... smoke, lights blue, Floor's hair blowing in the air. On the screen we see that planetary alignment, the Sun, Earth and the Moon, and Floor doing that final part on a live show. All the audience just with their jaws hanging, opened mouths in pure awe, waiting for the finale to give them the most waited applause. And after all that, she just gives us the most humble "thank you" that she can.
Amen
That's why we married her. Hahahah
Sun, Earth, Moon and Floor, four celestials entities
@@g.e.o.s.h NIGHTWISH - Shoemaker (Official Lyric Video) 9 april 2020
I'm not sure they will play it live. There are parts of the final section that are very difficult if you aren't singing operatically regularly, which is one advantage I suppose that a previous vocalist had. If it went wrong it could sound horrible.
! Merci ! Thank You ! Kitoos ! Viel Danke... Thank you Nightwish, Floor, thank You Lord and the Universe. I'm blessed to be alive and be able to listen to this Treasure. ❤❤❤
THAT. ENDING. OMG.
I love Floor voice in Laudiato part it just makes me cry every time
It really is quite amazing.
Carlos Gonzalez si súper jotillo ♥️💁🏻♂️💕 So proud algún problema? Ah OK :V bye
ALUCARD 1997™ ya se JA en qué estamos? 2006? Jaja
That part is EPIC🙊😭😍
Best part of the song ! :)
I should have commented this months ago, but i finally could hear this song live back in october 2022. And i was there, close to Floor and the band. This long part of my life is now complete.
Thank you Nightwish.
This is a score of mental movie or something ... Very touching, I cried.. Nightwish always making portals to new worlds... Masterpiece
That ending made me cry, an epic song!
This is simply put a MASTERPIECE. Especially the ending. This is how you use an orchestra in a metal song!
OMFG
This is a MASTERPIECE!!!!
Music has never before made me cry. Now it did. Nightwish is the best.
Nightwish is strong as ever 22 years later. Wonderful & Epic
I honestly prefer floor over tarja tarja was just TOO operatic with her voice floor had a solid singing voice who can also do the same notes
Tarja was super but Floor is way beyond super. In my opinion with Floor Nightwish is finally what it is meant to be.
Esa Toivonen agreed
I'm a fan since the beginning and Tarja was indeed awesome but Floor is something else...she nails it every damm time! Nightwish is even better now imo. They realy are complete now. I will never give up on Nightwish! They made me into what I am now...also a musician and composer thanks to Tuomas and also Hans Zimmer. 😊
True NW fans like the band with Tarja Anette and Floor, hell, they made the movie with Anette, and the Imaginaeurm is one of their best works!
Holy hell! This song is out of this world with every member of Nightwish killing it! And floor’s voice always gives me chills-especially with her operatic vocals towards the end !
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES! FINALLY! So happy! Thank you NIGHTWISH!
Damm who cut the onions at end. Masterpiece this band is just AD ASTRA above everything else. just WOW. No words. Just JOY
The end is beyond this world.
I hope Carolyn Shoemaker hears this. If any song could do her husband justice, it’s this one.
I think she has twitter, I'm not even sure, but it looks legit. So I shared it there
Oh she hear it, and even her husband too, this song hear even in the stars. True masterpiece. 🥰
Do you know any reaction by Carolyn? I would like to know her Opinion.
Who's carolyn shoemaker? I missed the story
The ending just sends shivers down my spine
Just incredible after every song I think that this will be my favorite song of the album but I begin to realize that all are amazing for different reasons and all together come together in one grand masterpiece.
You are so right ,friend🤗
This song kinda helped me get through grief when my father died.
The ending...unbelievable beautiful
This is likely one of the most beautiful and touching voice, song and music I've ever heard with a video that tells the story so nicely. Every little thing is perfectly composed. Thank you, Nightwish.
Very sad news: Dr. Carolyn Shoemaker died this morning. Together with David Levy and Eugene, she was the discoverer of the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, in 1993. She was Eugene Shoemaker’s wife.
Oh no! What a great science power couple they were.
R.i.p..really sad...
i will never forget watching the impact "live" on tv ( minus light lag)...it was like a lil string of mini suns on the jupiter horizon...
Hi. Amazing images!! 👍
Half of her ashes belong on the moon, alongside her husband. Make it so NASA! 👏
Nobody than Tuomas can make this kind of masterpieces.
the end of this song is gorgeous, never thougt floor can sing in that way, i love it
This song epitomises one of the reasons why I love Nightwish - breaking down the 'boxes' into which music has been categorised and bringing it all together into one beautiful whole.
The finale from 3:45 is one of the most impressive parts I ever heard. Floor sings like an angel. I am in tears.
I'm a guy but I'm with you. I always have to cry when I hear this great song. It touches my heart.
I cannot be the only one who cried at the last part of this song.
no you're not, we're not alone
Now we are three. :-))
I play lacrosse and I well up.
With most Nightwish songs, I get so overwhelmed my eyes fill up with tears. Can't help it, and I'm not even depressed.
I always got something stuck in mine at the end
The end where the "choir" comes in always has me shivering.
Its as if all of mankind raised their voices as one, in harmony.
Everyone seems to be praising Floors performance on this song which is superb to say the least, but I would also like to pay some respect on the godly performance of Kai in this song. Damn.
Brilliant drums. They should be proud of Kai.
Kai is hell of a machine behind the drums. He is a beast, with Wintersun as well.
All of them are insanely talented
Every member of Nightwish, past and present, have been great. That said, I think the others do get lost behind Floor's incredible voice and Tuomas' incredible songwriting. Always felt like this about Alex Lifeson of Rush too. Such a great guitarist, but never gets name called as one of the greats... as he's always standing in the shadows of Peart and Lee.
without doubt Kai is one of the best ever!
i can listen to this song over and over and over again...its just an amazing song and Floor is on goddess level here
Woooooooow booooomb ❤
3:49 omg 🤩 that last part 💖 🥺 beautiful
I absolutely love the ending. Floor reminds me a bit of Lucia Popp in her recordings from the 60s. It's bright, ethereal, and full of clarity.
YES! she sounds as a soprano of first half of XX century
When they make a movie about Eugene Shoemaker, I hope they use this song. Absolutely beautiful as always.
The vocals at the end are simply awesome.
A masterpiece of one of the greatest composers of our time !!
Tuomas and Nightwish combined with Floor Jansen is like Thanos with all infinity stones. Unlimited power and potential!!! effing love it!!
