    the fact 0.6 of this is artistry, with a heavily deducted dismount and 0.1 on her leaps and excluding artistry it would get a 8.2E still this is why she is the beam queen. timeless beamer

      Zero slow connection deduction. Many strong acrobatic skills, but keep moving without pause. That's encouraged in the recent code.

      @@Mhochul Incorrect. Back in the day, they counted 10 skills. Now, all gymnasts count 8 skills.
      Adjusting to 8 skills, 8.2E in 2008 would have been 8.4-8.5E. Simone got 8.5E before artistry deduction in 2023 beam final.

    In this era, routines like Shawn with most acro skills are almost none deduction prone unlike the Nastia like routines with dance elements

    • @cocoroni1031
      @cocoroni1031 11 месяцев назад +9

      Yes, but acro skills (E or higher) are generally more risky, and many gymnasts pause for those huge acro skills. Shawn is very dynamic and has a great flow.

      @C524-nx6nd 6 месяцев назад +2

      Well they actually are. The more skills you do the harder you get elevation, which means you may get insufficient height and/or low landing deductions. But yeah less prone to rhythm and slow connection deductions. And lots of people get form deductions on acro skills like flexed feet and leg separations, etc

      F
      CCC + 0.1 CV + 0.1 SB

    Wow, so looking at the 2023 World Championship event scores, that would put her between 6th and 7th place today. I know very little about gymnastics. Is that right? If so, are gymnasts today executing that much better today?

    • @FlipFlyTumble
      @FlipFlyTumble  11 месяцев назад +14

      the reason for the low score is mainly that obviously this routine was not constructed for today's code especially artistry. plus, in 2008 they needed more skills (10 counting instead of 8) so more room for deductions. i think standards of execution are definitely much higher today but gymnasts like shawn would probably have been able to adapt to the code if they were competing today

    Can you explain the artistry deductions a little bit? I only saw them at the end of the video. Also, I know with each new code of points they are trying to really differentiate everyone but I think that the laymen would look at a 7.6 execution for that routine and be like wtf?? Execution is so harsh these days. :(

    I have a question, can a skill be downgraded AND receive execution deductions? What causes a skill to get downgraded? Like a switch ring jump with the back foot only reaching shoulder height. If this jump is downgraded to a switch leap, will that impact the execution score?

      Not really. She does a dozen moves that attract deductions, such as her incomplete twists, crossed legs, lack of height on all her punch front elements, and her low landing on double saltos. Her spins also have lots of deductions too with form and precision. Those are all existing deductions in 13-16 code of points

      Many elements have gotten downgraded over the years, especially on vault (I think we’ve lost about a point of difficulty per vault since 2012 or so), and elements on other apparatuses have also had lowered difficulty values as they get too popular.

    The only problem I have with this is that the deductions were then what they were. You can't really say it's worse execution or take off because it means she would probably have a whole different routine. Don't tell me Shawn would have happily taken 6 tenths in artistry deductions without changing things.

    • @FlipFlyTumble
      @FlipFlyTumble  11 месяцев назад +5

      We all know that. The video is simply to educate others about the deductions in the current code.

    • @mariusa.5863
      @mariusa.5863 4 месяца назад

      But why not educate people with routines that were actually done under the current code? This appears like "Look how badly she would score today" or "Look how laxly they were judged back then". The comment at the beginning doesn’t really prevent that imho. It’s not only about the artistry deductions she would have avoided by changing her routine. If the execution is judged differently, athletes would work on it differently in training. I'm sure you’ve got the best intentions, but I think it is unfair and misleading to judge someone with a code they didn’t even know and couldn’t follow.

    Clearly, these judges were never in gymnastics. I mean a deduction for a flexed foot? Try landing a skilled while your foot is pointed. I think you would break something or worse. She sas and always be one of my favorite gymnasts. SO MUCH POWER IN HER SKILLS!

  • @C524-nx6nd
    @C524-nx6nd 6 месяцев назад

    On top of those I'd take 0.1 (maybe 0.3) on her front pike on tucking too early, 0.1 on her back pike on insufficient pike, and 0.2 on her L turn - precision and body position 0.1 each. And I think her dismount low chest is a 0.3

  • @plantsforlife1120

    It is just AMAZING how nit picky the scoring still is considering today’s gymnastics has become so much more acrobatic and not artistic based. Scoring needs to be revamped or another sport category all together needs to be made to acknowledge these changes.

    Ridiculousness at its best!! Some of those moves cannot be done without having the legs separated, try them and see flexed foot really? The code of points now is looking for more dance than physical tumbling and difficult moves. I did not like the thin as a rail female doing those rocking motions and showing the rib cage not a good thing to see. You can use the entire body without doing that! NOBODY is perfect on any apparatus there will always be deductions but some of them are not justified!!

      It is helpful because it's easier to know which routine doesn't adapt to the code.

      I didn’t take it that way either but I can’t blame someone who does. The "result" is basically "Look, she’d score way worse nowadays". And that can be seen as unfair. I don’t really see the point of a video like that, btw. Of course she’ll score worse since her routine was designed for another CoP. Anything else would be pure coincidence. I found it interesting to see what gets deducted exactly, that was helpful. But I don’t get why an old routine was used for that.

    • @ansonpang
      @ansonpang 11 месяцев назад +10

      @@mariusa.5863 It's an opportunity to see how the COP has evolved over time. 7.6 is not the worst E score if she changes up some of the artistry. Also, she will be doing less skills since the 2006-2008 COP requires them to do 10 skills but now most people do 7 skills and count like a B skill so with adjustments and better work on the landing, she can score a 8.2 or above and is competitive with the current routines e.g. Simone, Shilese, Zhou Yaqin
