    This is spot on.
    There's a lot of folks doing tutorials on RUclips, and finding one that's accurate can be a bit of a slog, especially with popular songs. But whenever I see Papastache in the search results I know I can stop looking. Thanks for being awesome, dude. Love this track!

    Thanks for this lesson. It is a sign of a big man who takes the time to help others down this guitar hwy. In my dreams I am the next Jimi Hendrix, but I am a little old 56. Two years ago I again picked up the guitar and because of God's grace this time I was able to stick with it. Had problems in my younger days and just couldn't stay with it long enough to pick it up, but because of you and others on yourtube I am well on my way to becoming a guitar slinger. Better old than never. God Bless U

    Thnx BIG time 'stache-man! This song is what turned me on to Pearljam back in the day. Listen to it several times a day and do my own lead over it. This song just brings out a tormented soul somehow...and still yet after all these years I still can't understand a single word of the lyrics other than ...."make me cry...." lol! Wanna say big thnx to yourself, Marty, and Tim....your vids keep me going

    WOW! Finally putting pieces of this together. I started with someone's generated tabs and they were...just OK, so I was trying to fill in some gaps and make it sound right...but I can't play guitar. Watching your finger placement and nuance, actually made things click. One of my favorite songs, and a FANTASTIC lesson. If I could like this twice, I would. Brilliant.

    So...I am on only a Fender Mustang 1 set to '59 Baseman with everything else on 5 and my Epihone(Les Paul LS) in this case in second position and this sounds AMAZING!! Well, the base is at 6, but no matter. Beautiful. I hate to keep "harping" on this lesson, but it has given me so much! Particularly, the slide down with the thumb. All it takes is practice. I initially felt my hands were too big (umm..They are not.) In fact, it helped tremendously. My technique is what was flawed. Anyway, got it and thank you for one of my favorite songs bro. Nothing like actually playing one of your favorites...

    So many people play this song wrong, its nice to see someone that legit can play it. I would never play this in a cover band unless I could play it correctly. Not bragging, but I have a pretty damn good ear, so I'm confident I can figure out the rest of the song. But you did say you were going to make another video for the rest. I'm not against confirming what I picked up by ear for the rest so, did you ever upload the rest of the song? Cause i can't find it. Thanks so much for this man. You fucking rock. The best musical ears have the best tutorials.

    Yes Marty is an amazing teacher, but this song. I've never seen anybody teach it any better than you have. I've been playing for about 5 years and only 16 years old, and as soon as I learned this song, I've got so much great feedback from playing this song. Pearl Jam did an amazing job at this song, and you did an amazing lesson. Thank you so much!

    What is the amplifier? Coud you give the settings? THe tone is amazing

    • @SeanPat
      @SeanPat 9 лет назад

      Samuel Campos this might be a bit late, but its a divided by 13 amp if I remember correctly. It sounds like its a basic clean tone with a slight bit of gain maybe, but not completely driven. One of the factors that make it sound so good is the pickup setting he has the guitar on. Its the single coil neck and single coil middle pups together to create that glassy and sweet tone.

    That E major Hendrix bar shape with thumb over and ring on b / e string is a tough lil bastard. Flatten my pointer to bar the 2 then naturally my middle and ring flatten muting the strings. Nice lesson though, I’ll keep working on it 👍

    The rhythm of those few voice leading notes in the bass moving from E to B cant be sloppy. Especially if playing along with any other instrument or risk stepping all over them and throwing the groove off. In my opinion of course.
    In fact, all of the root notes here are really strong in the changes and should be tight. Even played solo, really tight bass here gives a sense that there are two instruments playing separately - a bass and a guitar. Especially if you can put a little shuffle feel on the melody notes. But the bass needs to be in time and with confidence, and pretty much equal volume on the E and B root and the A is softer. Again, just my own take on it. Thanks for reminding us of this classic!
