Marty, been enjoying your channel for a while now. I'm always impressed with how you break songs down into learnable, playable bits. Keep it up! And I'd love to see you make a video for Tauren Wells - Known. It's a beautiful song with some really awesome chord variations that I'm struggling to get.
It's amazing how a musician that only lived to be 27 could make such an impression on the world that chords are named after him. His style lives on. Fly on Jimi!
@@johnshive5548wrong. Those chords existed before Jimi and long after. He was just the pioneer. I hate when people diefy jimi because he would have HATED it 😂 so you mega fans who claim “jimi the almighty is the only person who plays like this the rest are all copies” is just ignorant and the complete opposite to what jimi would have thought. He shared with the world how to build off of what he figured out. Not everything made ever is now his.
When I was a beginner, my dad showed me this song and said I would be his favorite guitarist if I could learn this song. Thank you Marty for giving every beginner guitarist a chance. You have shown me and countless other people how truly amazing the guitar can be.
Dude I love your enthusiasm for the guitar, and it's awesome that you understand and appreciate the value there is as a beginner in taking in the knowledge being passed down by the more experienced musicians. My dad gave me my first music lesson when I was 12 and the most important lesson he ever gave me was no matter how good I become as a musician, there will always be something new I can learn. Now I'm 46 and I've had a career as a musician since I was 17, and I recently started teaching piano and guitar, but despite all that experience I never forgot what my dad taught me that day, and that brought me here so that I can learn one of the coolest guitar riffs ever recorded. Stick with it and that guitar will never stop amazing you.
The thing I really love about Marty's tutorials is that he gives you knowledge on how to spice it up and make it your own. The lessons just show you how to play the song, whereas Marty shows you how to play the guitar. Keep strumming on man :)
i remember you posting this a few days after i got my first guitar and i remember wanting to learn this but it was too hard for me here we are about 8 months later and after about 5 or 10 minutes of trying the intro i almost have it down already. thanks marty for making videos that have helped me improve so much in such little time. i am still pretty bad at guitar but i have improved so much and it feels great.
Thanks dude I really appreciate your teaching style. Been watching your videos for a few years now. I’m glad There’s a way to throw you a few bucks. Keep up the good work bro. You’re an awesome guitar player. Aaron
My first guitar was an Epiphone Les Paul but I knew I needed a Strat after I heard this song. Thanks for teaching me how to play it Marty! You’ve taught me nearly everything I know on guitar.
I find it so hard to learn without tabs. I struggle to learn chords so if I don’t have tabs I will have to pause the video about a thousand damn times to learn one part. Feels bad
@@motochris26ify I can understand that but you should really try to exercise your ears. Sounds dumb and also hard but it's not. It's something you can pick up on pretty quick. As for chords you kinda just have to learn them. Learn the notes on the 2 low strings and that will really help. Nothing is that hard you just have to learn it and practice. Your fingers will start to become more flexible before you know it. Sorry for the rant but I get so much enjoyment from playing I hope you do too. Good luck dude.
Not to be a jerk...but anyone else think the opposite? Like...I thought this song was so tough, and landed on this video and thought “oh...it’s just a few minor pent licks and a couple bar chords”. I guess i assumes it was more lead line licks or something.
It's difficult for a beginner but once you've been playing for decade or so and learn all your chords and learn the chord shapes all up and down the neck in different positions. The song is literally like 3 chords just broken apart and played in pentatonic riffs and double stops. Very simple actually. Keep playing. You'll get there. The thumb on root note will always be tricky for me though and I've been playing for 20 years now. 😆
As someone who's been struggling for years at learning specific riffs (it seems my aptitude for guitar is limited primarily to punk-style rhythm riffs - mostly simple power cord progressions and the occasional pull-on/pull-off), when I finally decided to try this, the majority of it actually felt surprisingly easy to get. Still got a few little intricacies to work out, but it definitely gave me that "next-level" feeling. Definitely nice when that happens.
You are my first and Only Guitar teacher , Cannot imagine my life without guitar and I am still in love with it and practicing . Thought you should know as I feel like an old student ! I been watching you for years man and honestly, you are the singke greatest teacher i have ever seen. Your making a difference man. Just raw natural talent.
Thank you so much man, the guitar in this song has always been something that before i even played guitar as a kid felt like it tickles the soul, only in recent years did i learn barre chords, and always thought i would never be good enough to play something so beautiful sounding. Turns out its really not that hard with a great teacher. You have helped me so much throughout my guitar journey and im very grateful!
Bravo young man!! I love how you show your on building to get as perfect as possible. This is a song that has not a lot of room for error. It is a favorite from the 1990’s. He knows that Mike loves Hendrix!
F'n marty! awesome as always! i think the beauty of the song is that if you hear 100 live versions, there are 100 different things you find and they all sound awesome. this was great - thank you!
Thanks, haven’t touched the guitar since high school and it’s been years since I played this song. Have to learn all over again but u covered the scale and it’s coming back slowly...
Man rock music is funny. You had the 50's through mid 70's and everything after was a rehash of a particular element of the original 30 years or so. Punk brought back 50s rock n roll but more extreme, the 80s brought back guitar hero heavy rock and 90s grunge really just brought back late 60s early 70s hard rock. We've had more time of rock ripping off its self than the original bits lasted. Its crazy. Great lesson. I never really realized how hendrix based this song was and i was an album buying kid when this came out! I cant even claim im too young to remember it 😆
I love you Marty. As a pianist-trying to become a multi instrumentalist, I can only go through the rudiments for so long before I want to learn some favourite songs of mine. Thank god you seem to cover all of my best jams.
