Dang that was a VERY cool demonstration! I would like to know if you've employed this in the field yet to verify the distance, perhaps with and without directional antennas. Are there any special settings needed in the software? This really made me smile!
@@WyomingSurvival That is some exciting training he offers. I recently heard one of NC Scout's Podcasts where he mentioned doing something with Baofengs and digital comms. I didn't realize it was this method. I'm going to really think about this ability. I had no idea what NC was referring to except his fundamental use of these HT's and digital mode. His Podcast made my ears perk up and your demonstration made my lightbulb com on. I'm still smiling at the possibilities!
I’m just brand new to this and learning as much as I can… so pardon the ignorance! Can this be done on ANY HAM frequency? I know many of the Elmers can be rather protective and territorial. I don’t want to get into trouble or bring any bad attention to the community or preppers using amateur bands. Is there a specific portion of the spectrum for this? Are repeaters off limits for this? Thanks in advance.
short answer YES. Is it possible to use data modes on any frequency that your radio operates well on: YES. Although there are some specific chunks of the ham bands where it is recommended and customary and advisable and expected for people to use digital data modes. But it should work everywhere. But you should preferably send it on bands where it is allowed. See the band plan of your country for clarification. Like for example the ARRL bandplan if you are in US.
When there is more than one signal on the waterfall how do you pick out an individual signal to decode and transmit on like you would on the full size fldigi? This is the one issue I haven’t been able to figure out on my own or find any info on. Though this would likely be an issue on hf with many signals coming over at once. Thanks
@@chris20856 there was a point when Russia stopped using DMR, so they knew when DMR was used it was Ukraine and they could determine location and bomb that area. See NC Scout's The Guerrilla's Guide To The Baofeng Radio
Concept shown on a cheap radio proves that people can practice skills without spending hundreds of dollars on another hobby. When guys are fixing cars, remodeling houses, and keeping ammo stocked for range day, it's nice having a low barrier to entry hobby.

We actually got it to work 2 weeks ago at NC SCOUT'S Advanced RTO class 25 miles away using directional antennas the students made during class.

You can add AES Message Encryptor for SMS to this set up (How legal that would be, I have no idea.)
There is no error correction so if the message is garbled then no chance decoding it.
Does this software key up PTT with RTS? If so, you could use a Digirig instead of VOX with the Btech cable. That might be a cleaner solution.
I can't find a setting for that. It would be very nice to have instead of VOX (which I can never get to work correctly).
Dope thanks man!!
Just curious, what Frequency were you transmitting on? Thank you. Ernest Bazzinotti KC1LKB
MURS frequencies

Can these be set up to send/receive DMR message standard?
No
The andflmsg apk is in 32 bit, my phone is 64bit only. Do you know of a way to get a 64 bit version of andflmsg for newer phones?
I got the link if you still need it. I had the same issue
can that program automatically encrypt and decrypt with PGP? (in minecraft of course!)
Not that I know of
@@WyomingSurvival alright. thank you and happy radioing!
Can you share a link to andflmessage?

I have only cotton the screen with buttons at the bottom once and now can't get it back!! Crappy SW design
The POS app will not work even directly phone to phone and thete is zero support!!!
Still worse than what a DMR or P25 radio can do without any extra hardware for a fraction of the price 😂
Yes, but ask the Ukrainians how using DMR worked out for them. Hint, they don't use it anymore.
@@jwg9785 What are you talking about? The Ukrainians (and the Russians in a smaller scale) use Motorola and Hytera DMR radios
