    FUN FACT: This is such an important and iconic track that it is archived in the America's National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress back in 2016, and was the first heavy metal to be entered into that archive.

      @dropbarracuda Not to take away from your point, but I wonder why the National Recording Registry is so selective? As a “national recording registry,” one would think the goal is to preserve the history of a wide range of music recordings - not every single one, obviously, but only registering the songs considered iconic seems really limited, don’t you think? But I’m probably missing something. Sorry if this is too off topic. I was just wondering about it….

    the song is the story of the 3 stages of addiction. The buildup, the excitement of getting the drugs initial euphoric feeling. The middle part of the song is the high itself, beautiful melodies that put you in your feelings. The need for more. The end of the song is the downfall and the collapse that happens when you withdraw or have no more drugs and how the drugs literally become the most important thing. you continue to chase that middle part of the song. The way this song is structured and put together is nothing shy of a masterpiece.

    • @oldb12
      @oldb12 7 месяцев назад +1

      I would add that the 1st and 2nd part is from the drugp point of view, the bridge is the High and hangover and the final part is the ultimate high and death. In the studio version you can get it clearer. It's an amazing story telling.

    • @Live2Win200
      @Live2Win200 7 месяцев назад +3

      To me the song is in 4 parts.
      the drug is screaming at the addict and the addict gives in
      That is where you see the song slow down and that is the euphoria
      After that you have the addict screening back at the master
      But he only gets to scream back for a short time and then the master takes over and Screams back at the addict "the puppet"

    The songs verses are written about drug addiction from first person perspective of the drug itself. The drug itself is telling you just how powerless you are against it. Then, the part that goes "Master, Master where are all the dreams I've been after, you've promised only lies...etc." is from the perspective of the addict. Truly a genius creative concept.

    This video is from the movie they did called "Through The Never" (which is also a name of one of their songs). It is a movie that is of a couple of their concerts that were edited together with extra stuff added in. This song is LEGENDARY; not just in their catalog but in heavy metal / rock genre overall. There is not "official" music video for his song as it was on an album that predates them doing music videos. So don't let the "movie" cut of this song lure you away from lyrical meaning of the song. It's overall about drug / substance abuse. Reference the line: "Chop your breakfast on a mirror". Drugs are the 'master' and you are the 'puppet'...

    I recommend checking out a 3 sister rock band from Mexico, they love Metallica & have an incredibly infectious energy.
    The Warning⚡ is made up of Daniela (Guitar, Lead Vocals), Paulina (Drums, Vocals) & Alejandra (Bass, Backing Vocals)
    2014 their cover of Enter Sandman by Metallica went viral (14, 12, 9 yrs old respectively).
    2019 they did a live cover of Atlas, Rise! by Metallica at the Whisky A GoGo
    2021 at the invitation of Metallica they did a re-imagining of Enter Sandman for the Blacklist album celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black album
    Since then they’ve gone from strength to strength, opening for Foo Fighters, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Muse along with their own headline tours.
    Their original music is also fantastic, anything from “Live at Teatro Metropólitan (CDMX)” will showcase their current live wall of sound.

    They are amazing live still to this day! I’ve seen them live at least half a dozen times over the years. First time was in 1986 and latest was 2018. Their song whiplash from their first album has a line that says “ we’ll never stop. We’ll never quit cuz we’re Metallica”. They haven’t yet! James is a master at writing lyrics. They are usually deeply personal to James but vague enough for the listener to interpret unto themselves.

Appreciate you guys giving a shout out to them for allowing reaction videos. Because people that grew up listening to deep metal and rock songs love seeing people's first reactions to songs. You should do any metallica song from their seattle 89 concert. They were fully in their prime there.

    For those of us that love and play metal, we love sharing the music with people. For most of us, our music wasnt something we could share without some form of judgement. Thanks guys. Its refreshing to see dudes who dont usually listen to this stuff go into this with an open mind. Much love

    This is one of the best metal albums of all time!! Master came out in 1986. 1986 was probably the best year for thrash metal. 4 of the beat albums came out that year! The secret behind master of puppets was cliff burton!! Great reaction!!

    You need to check out Disposable Heroes. It is a song about a soldier who went to war and is a shell of himself when he gets back. So deep!

    Iron Madien was formed in 1975 and are still touring today. Also research Bruce Dickinson and what he has done outside of the band.

    Just saw them my 5th and 6th time in Detroit. If you want a true reaction, go see them live. They don't disappoint and are very welcoming to new fans. Of all concerts I've been to, Metallica is by far the best.

    All of James's lyrics are vague and open to interpretation on purpose. I love that about him.

    The imagery is from their album covers “Master of Puppets” and “ “Justice for All”. This released in 1986. Their 1st video was “One” in 1989

    This was from their "movie" concert concept Through The Never (also a song).
    It is a storyline combined with a concert.
    Metallica are pioneers in lots of ways. They also dis a concert with a symphony orcest. You should check that out to. It's called Symfony and Metallica or S&M. Songs of Metallica with a classical twist.

    Great reaction!
    Funny tidbit about this song and the character of the band, I know a young lady who plays the bagpipes and does a cover of this on the pipes, some AH gave her sh.. on the tik tak tok about how bagpipes have no place doesn’t belong in Metallica and Jim wouldn’t approve and the band chimed in to her defense and thought it was awesome!! Totally cool! Guys of this caliber standing up for a small artist. Speaks volumes to their character.
    (Actually a similar thing happened with a Charlie Daniel’s song lol)

    Two more great tracks about war by Metallica: "Blackened" and "Disposable Heroes"
    Both are in my top5 by them. No videos; just check out the lyric videos.
    Most new fans love the song "Fade To Black" it's one of their most universally loved songs. Again - just a lyric video. But that one is very profound and deep - helped a lot of people get through some ish.
