This was an amazing interview, and i really liked how Mark Lemont Hill articulated the questions to get Coates's full respond and reaction. Wish you you guys the best.
Marc Lamont Hill is perhaps the most underrated intellectual of our times. First came across him accidentally in a clip where he was wiping the floor with Chris Rufo (who never saw it coming). I’ve been a fan ever since!
We Africans are a proud people and a people with a conscience, and we will always stand with truth. Apartheid is wrong, regardless of whether in South Africa or Palestine. So free to the peoples of the world. Thank you Ta-Nehisi and LMH
Living through the harsh realities of apartheid profoundly transformed me as a person. Born into a society defined by systemic oppression, I spent most of my formative years witnessing the cruelty and inhumanity that characterized daily life. Apartheid was not just a backdrop; it was woven into the very fabric of my existence. The experience was heart-wrenching, cruel, and filled with constant pain and humiliation. Despite the oppressive environment, my family and I learned to navigate our circumstances. We found ways to live fully and love deeply, building a life that reflected our resilience and strength. This journey was marked by immense sacrifices, each one a testament to our determination to survive and thrive in an unjust world. It’s astonishing to think that many around us not only accepted this brutal system but participated in it willingly. Witnessing this complicity was particularly challenging for me; it raised questions about humanity and morality. There were certainly courageous individuals and groups who stood up against this oppressive regime, fighting for justice and equality. Their bravery inspired hope in a seemingly hopeless situation, reminding us that change was possible, even if it felt distant. In my family, we hold a strong belief in the power of forgiveness. We understand that forgiveness is not a sign of weakness but a crucial step toward healing and moving forward. It enables us to release the painful weight of our past. Now, as we nurture our own families, we recognize the importance of finding peace with our history to live joyful, fulfilling lives. As difficult as it has been to come to terms with my experiences, I have come to love my past. It has shaped me into a better person, one who strives to contribute positively to my family, community, and spirituality. The journey toward understanding and forgiveness has been anything but simple; it has required deep reflection and a willingness to confront difficult emotions. While I recognize that the world is inherently flawed and will never be perfect, I hold onto faith in ourselves and the possibilities for a better future. Within each of us lies an inner strength capable of helping us heal and forgive. Embracing this power allows us to move forward, free from the burdens of our past, and helps us cultivate a sense of hope and purpose in our lives.
Thank you Mr Marc Lamont hill And so good to see you on mainstream media again Hopefully this is a proof that people who speak out against atrocities will not be cancelled for ever like before
What is that supposed to mean? Suffering is a natural response to an "event" of a multitude of sorts, the experience of which often makes us stronger, more resilient and which refines us.
That is not true that Palestinians do not want a jewish state. But Palestinians want to live in safety in their OWN LAND and they do not want to be restricted in movement and everyday life, neither want Jews to take over their ancient farms and fruit trees, wells etc.

Then an apology would be demanded of Mr. Hill and Coates, AND their lives and careers would be destroyed even if they apologized. These days, we get the egregious attack on Mr. Coates by a morning talk show host and others, but he is allowed to open up a dialogue that is long overdue. We also live in a time where these two gentlemen and a Malcolm Nance can freely offer their perspectives without World War Three breaking out. No matter how painful and hard it is to face justice and truth, we MUST go through the process AND be willing & courageous enough to FINALLY FIX IT!!
Absolutely thought provoking and invoking ideas. I even watched this clip 3 times to digest the many deep moral and imaginary moral that this writer presents; he breaks down the many layers to race and the different forms of oppression and resistance into easily coherent thoughts- I was thoroughly engaged really respect and appreciated how Coates critiques his own oversight. ❤❤
The late Desmond Tutu said Israel’s form of apartheid 'is worse' than that experienced by black people in South Africa before independence. The former President Carter described Israel’s occupation as apartheid. Apartheid is a crime against humanity yet the world looks on at the instance of what Israel is doing in Palestine. The ICJ opined recently that Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands is in violation of international law.
@douglasmasuku3844 I agree with you. I posted something about Tutu's remarks about an elephant and a rat earlier this year, and someone responded that Tutu was a very "well-known antisemite." I was shocked and disappointed in the blatant lie.

Desmond Tutu told us this a long time ago. And so have the Palestinians themselves...for decades. It is not time. It's past time. It 's an incredible thing to watch somebody's eyes open in real time. It's happening everywhere. I hope this awakening, several decades beyond the British turning their heads as they left the region, is not too late for Gaza and the West Bank. It is certainly too late for many.
“It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.” Deuteronomy 9:5-6
This reminds me of the first chat I had with a close friend after I came back from visiting my motherland for the first time, except with fewer tears involved. We are now a very wealthy highly educated country. We punch above our weight in the world. We had of course a powerful benefactor, the Americans. Irish Americans are as powerful a bloc as American Jews are. And of course we had our Whiteness. That’s why we stand with the Palestinians.
biden is a genocidal zio

Racism against black, African people in Ireland third highest in Europe and on the rise, EU report finds

Irish Americans are nowhere as near as powerful and influential as American Jews. Possibly more racist, though.
Too bad Palestinians don't have same support from Americans as the Irish had.
@@zizuette 😊 I’ve been to the local Palestinian marches which sometimes attract the bog standard racists, they’re usually as dumb as rocks 🤭 so we do have them. I just hope the next generation are aware of their privilege here.
You literally could not ask for a better person to interview Coates on these topics than MLH. Excellent conversation
Everyone should watch this extraordinary interview. Thank you Al Jazeera English, Marc Lamont Hill, Ta-Nehisi Coates and all of the crew who helped share this message with the world.
Peace.
Planetary peace.
Peace everywhere now.
its not hurt people hurting people, no no no, its about impunity. america granted israel impunity and thereby created a monster.
The entire world is not the same after the genocide
October 7 is like a bully at school or work who keeps bullying you tell your teacher boss nothing gets done and then you break his nose all of a sudden you're the bad guy what abaut all the wrongs that was done to you
Exactly!! The real bullies are somehow protected. I'm sick of the bullshit!! The occupation needs to end now!!
Somehow we must always appeal to the moral conscience of the bully and not defend our self, because that might make them not see how wrong they are. The problem is the bully fully depends on you not being able to defend yourself even after they realize they are wrong
@@lengaumosotho pretty much!! The only thing that has changed bullying is social media/cancel culture. At least now there is more of a spotlight on it.
Yes we are in out millions ❤
Thank you so much for sharing❤
I would like to respond to your comment but I am tongue-tied! I am very moved by what you wrote. It was very powerful! Thank you.
God bless for being honest
I bought his book and started reading it!! Thank you for speaking up. History will appreciate you and your name will be written in gold.
Thank you Mr Marc Lamont hill
And so good to see you on mainstream media again
Hopefully this is a proof that people who speak out against atrocities will not be cancelled for ever like before
I have discovered so much respect for Coates , after watching a few of his recent interviews.
"suffering doesn't make you better, it just makes you suffer" - art spiegelman
What is that supposed to mean? Suffering is a natural response to an "event" of a multitude of sorts, the experience of which often makes us stronger, more resilient and which refines us.
Thank you for an intelligent conversation ❤
You're both making the world a better place
Protect this man 🙏🙏😭🇵🇸
I’m not the same since oct 7th and it takes me much to acknowledge it..this is our humanity at stake here and it is going on.
such a kind way of talking about the most horrible thing
That is not true that Palestinians do not want a jewish state. But Palestinians want to live in safety in their OWN LAND and they do not want to be restricted in movement and everyday life, neither want Jews to take over their ancient farms and fruit trees, wells etc.
Ta-Nehisi has been one of the most beautiful and thoughtful and eye-opening writers and speakers I've come across in recent years, and I'm glad to have heard his voice and hopefully taken a little of his moral courage with me.
Great interview
These are two humans i never tire of listening to. I admire both for their courage of conviction and their thirst/interpreting of justice. I learn so much.
Great episode. Thank you so much.
Excellent interview. Very informative.
Absolutely crucial interview, level of journalism you WISH you could see on mainstream American news.
What an amazing interview. I'm tryming to learn more about racism and the situation in Palestine and there are so many great insights here.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful, informative conversation between two of my favorite intellectuals. I will be watching this again and again. ❤️
Fantastic insights and a very good interview. Great questions.
Thank you for the interview- it was very powerful
Brilliant.
Are you? That’s a matter of opinion.
Great interview , thanks 🇵🇸
What a thoughtful and deep conversation!
A fine, thoughtful and intelligent conversation. Thank you.
Gentlemen such a AMAZING interview!!!🙏👁❤️
So happy to see you again mr Lamont hill
And so honoured to hear mr coats
Thank you Mr. Coates!
A truely insightful interview❤❤❤South Africa
Great interview❤️🙏
I feel a huge sense of relief that this interview can take place and be seen worldwide by many people.
I remember a not so distant past when forces would immediately shut down this type of interview.
Free palestine
Thanks for being fearless.
I have been waiting for these two to be in conversation
That was brilliant, thank you both 🙏🏼❤️🔥🌟
Hats off to you Mr Coates.
Good people still exist. You revive my hope in humanity
Wonderful conversation! Thank you
The late Desmond Tutu said Israel’s form of apartheid 'is worse' than that experienced by black people in South Africa before independence.
Thank you for this interview. 🙏🏽🇵🇸🍉
Great interview, Dr Lamont
this was the best interview with him about this book so far
Thank you for always bringing us such professional and high level journalism and interviews ❤ This was no exception!
It's just astounding how much grilling Ta-Nehisi Coates is getting because of The Message. But at least it's getting people to talk because he's not Palestinian or Israeli, nor is he Arab or Jewish. That's why his book will be more impactful. I'll buy it!
Ta Neshisi embodies humanity.
Thank you for your book and for your courage
Choseness can keep people from questioning how it may affect others as well as questioning why others resent such a narcissistic assumption.
“It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land; but on account of the wickedness of these nations, the Lord your God will drive them out before you, to accomplish what he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people.”
Deuteronomy 9:5-6
Excellent interview and book!
Excellent interview. Mr Ta- Nehisi I loved it when u trash that racist on your interview with CBS. Thank you both!!
great interview
We need a 3+ hour long convo with these two. This was too short
Good one.
Thanks million sir❤ please don't give up on Palestinians. Not just your life we also feel same like you.
Now Ta-Nehsi Cotes revolutionary voice is complete. Thanks for giving the neglected Palestinian lives a voice.
Ta-Nehisi Coates , appreciate your wonderful work . 🇵🇸 Will Live Forever
✊🏾🇵🇸
This reminds me of the first chat I had with a close friend after I came back from visiting my motherland for the first time, except with fewer tears involved. The way I was nodding my head at everything Ta-Nehisi said about decentering whiteness and the critical flaw of the counter-narrative! Kudos to Marc and his team for asking all the right questions, as always.
Wow! Coates just handed me an epiphany when he said that the oppressed oppress. I've lacked the ability to give Israelis a slack with regard to their decades of colonialism and genocide. It's hard not to have those feelings when people are committing genocide. Thanks for sharing your insight into this crisis!
@@dobnerk I thoroughly enjoyed the interview. However I believe Coates is letting the Israeli's "off the hook" for their aberrant behavior. We are all responsible for our actions. Many of them have succumbed to sadism. (The settlers in the West Bank are cruel and vicious.)
Nat Turner era of 1830's as an enslaved human -anything is possible when it comes to collective liberation...Coates a late traveler--its vital to see how others live--Indigenous genocide still occurring since the colonization of USA--an exporter of violence, an enabler, a saboteur,...Not sure why it is difficult to say American Jews (American Zionism) is a dominant thought within US politics and geopolitics via controlling interests in finance, media, ownership within multiple industries--as a minority group --raises red flags--reason why in real time censorship occurs in American imperialism and within its Republic.
Us Brazilians have the words of our top-class Sociologist - Paulo Freire: 'When education doesn't liberate you, those oppressed will dream of becoming the oppressor'.
Two men I never heard of before Oct 7 and now I've come to love.
Thanks marc and tahanasi u guys are legends love u for standing up for humanity
@5:41 “we are supporting a system of apartheid and I don’t think most Americans understand that”
Thank you for giving us Americans the benefit of the doubt. We’re trying to overcome generations of religious propaganda.
An amazing person who has a growth mindset ✊🏼👏🏼
This interview is everything 💙
thank you so much for information
Wow 2 black men of great intelligence just talking about the world TYVM it was very enjoyable !
I hope everyone watched the film of October 7th as well. Also life changing.
