  • www.ted.com The tale of a major global cultural phenomenon: Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle describes the spectacular arrival of fast-paced 20-20 cricket as it parallels the rise of modern India. He traces the game from its sleepy English roots to the current world of celebrity owners and million-dollar player contracts.
    TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at www.ted.com/translate. I agree with Harsha’s opinion of English people inventing the things and let the world be better at it. They invented the language and let Harsha be far better at it.

      No, its not just you, it me too. But how is Cricket rising when Cricket World Cup actually got reduced in size?

    • @siddhant...
      @siddhant... 5 лет назад +1

      @@aniksamiurrahman6365 that's really sad. Seriously what's the difference between champions trophy and world cup now. 14-16 nations playing was the real essence. Anyways it wasn't technically unfair, a tournament was organised, other teams were given a chance but Afghanistan was the one which made it into world cup. Anyways, video is more about how India used certain opportunities, and benefits it's reaping because of cricket obsession. I really wish cricket was actually encouraged more in nations like Zimbabwe, Ireland etc which have potential just like Bangladesh.

    • @v1kh58
      @v1kh58 5 лет назад +1

      T20 world cup should be seen like FIFA WCs. It should involve more countries and should happen rarely on a 4 year scale

    • @siddhant...
      @siddhant... 5 лет назад

      @@v1kh58 that's a great idea, it's much easier to accommodate many teams in shorter format tournaments. Plus it would be easier for smaller teams to show potential in t20 format.

There is no other speaker like Harsha to match his content, speed of speech, articulation and above all the power to mesmerize the audience. For someone like me who grew up in the US, I never thought I would be able to go back to my roots and love cricket BUT then T20 happened and then I have become a fan ever since. IPL which is now worth over $6Billion dollars is just an example of how global this game could be given the right support! Hopefully, the US one day will welcome this beautiful game and we will have our Yankees and Red Sox but this time in cricket and not baseball.

      hogn hooper you are right. But Sachin isn’t the only reason for cricket to be so famous in India. It was the globalisation of India in 1992. Before that BCCI use to pay tv channels to show cricket matches & look now ; Sony bought Indian cricket rights of 5 years at around a billion dollars. And at the same time mere $300M for England cricket rights “.
      IPL rights sold at $2.1B . Sachin may have played his part in making cricket a worshipped sport but he wasn’t the only important aspect.
