    Close your eyes and imagine Dane Cook is teaching you how to program drums.

    This method has helped so much! Your concept of recording the separate parts and then getting the drum parts for each section done before piecing it all together was what I needed to give me a way to get things moving quicker. I usually take forever to get things down and then I lose the drive to complete it because of all the time spent. Thank you for very clearly laying out your process.

      @HamleTrex what you can do is hear it in your head and use your phone to record you making the sound, or "singing" the sound so you don't forget. Then as the above person stated, work it out on the neck until you've got it. Record that and then you're good to go.

    Fluff, this is AWESOME. Thank you. There's a ton out there around mixing as a producer who plays guitar, but not a ton out there around a guitarist that produces. This is great and will help with my production flow and layouts. Thank you!

    So informative as always, it changed my thinking on the songwritting with SD3, and i like the way you describe the process then to "rewrite" the guitar track to stick more on drums, like you can do with "real people" in a jam session. Thank you

  • @ChristianIce
    @ChristianIce 5 лет назад +12

    I find that opening a midi track and write on it directly would be quicker and more effective, but probably all those midi presets would be good if you feel like writing the other way around, meaning finding an inspiring drum loop and playing/jamming on top of it.

Straight to the point for the fast action in order to avoid losing our ideas :) best way to easily and rapidly put an idea of song on a media that you can work with later on. It’s important to remember to record tracks on a click because SD3 will play in sync with the host.
    Good job again !

    Fluff... dude!! You are the best man!! You are an extremely amazing teacher! Seriously bro! (Plugs in history here) And I am amazed at how easy and enjoyable you made this tutorial. All your vids slam, but I am astounded at how wonderfully you convey your message while “teaching”. Please do more of these tutorials man. This is the best RUclips video I have viewed in a long damn time. As an experienced guitarist, whose proudest (creative lol) achievement is a moderately successful rock band, I am absolutely completely interested in learning composition methods from a master like yourself! You have an amazing way of delivering the goods. I know you have a wide variety of vids, which all kick @$$, but I am making a formal request nearly begging you to start a series just like the vid here. I will gladly pay for something that is, in my opinion, to the point of priceless as it is such a seamless instructional rarity. So basically, please?? Lol!

    That was good. I just saw you on a vid about studio one! Then I saw the key words “SD3 “. And it’s you again. Funny. Anyway, I subscribed because as a musician you’re doing what I want to do basically. Btw, those were great metal beats. I’m really new to all this. Im 70. I played pro from 67-84. I finally got burned out. And worse. When I was 50 I went back to school and that was the first time I ever touched a computer! You’re young and have used one all your life. Working with my ez2 these last two months has made it much easier for me to understand you when talking about SD3. It’s so much better. Can’t wait. I was in a lot of rock bands back in the day and my album from 1971 is on Spotify and RUclips ( no vid) . Just type in “Peace & Quiet “. I’m Greg Williams the Drummer. I was 21! WOW. Long time ago. I still play in my house almost everyday and am going to buy Jobeky edrums and cymbals. That with the SD3 is killer! Listen to Luke Olsen or josh Cameron. They do RUclips covers with Jobeky kits. You seem like a person I could talk to easily so I subscribed and I’ll be watching for more SD3 stuff. About the daw. I don’t know how important that will be for me. I’ll have to wait and see. I guess basically to record live, right? Having the Presonus interface will give me pristine samples from the Roland TD-30 to my computer.Then mix. I think it might be easier inside SD3. I watch Mike Luke too. He’s got as many ezx and SDX as you...a lot! Thanks. Later.

    Thanks for this video! I've been playing guitar for 35 years. I took up drums about 12 years ago with a Roland ekit. I like other guitarists got tired of drummers, so just become one...lol. I've been using Superior since the beginning, but since I was actually playing the drums, never bothered much with the midi grooves. I've got tons of them but never touch them. I've just been having a hard time being creative by myself in that I'd lay down a riff to a metronome in Reaper, then try to lay down a drum groove to it. I just recently started playing with the midi grooves, and watching your video helped me really figure out how to get ideas down quick. I still plan to play all the drums myself on the final recording, but it's nice to get a rough idea down quickly.

    I agree, using the loops to set up a bed for the song is really useful. I do, also, use the midi field to write and edit kicks, cymbals, etc. to better lock into the guitars, as well as vocals.
    I think the only thing you left out were fills. But, fills are subjective, so again, great video!

Do you start with playing root notes off your guitar chords and then figure out how you want to embellish the bass parts. Or? -Thx Fluff
