When Bill Belichick says Reed is the greatest safety I believe him. Heck BB and Brady used to gameplan so they didn't throw to Ed Reed's side. Just a monster
@@KaurSingh-bo6gq as a cover guy he’s not Deion but Deion cannot tackle or force fumbles as well as Ed. They’re too different backs. Ed is more valuable if you need help covering the run and can drop in coverage. Deion is better if you have a solid frontline and just need a guy to make a receiver absolutely irrelevant for 4 quarters
@@KaurSingh-bo6gq reed has 259 more return yards and only 2 less touchdowns then deon. Ed was arguably better , reed also has 13 games with 2 interceptions(most since 1966) and did that in 12 seasons 2 less then sanders. And if reed was played more on special teams some would say he would have at least 10 blocked punt touchdowns not along with his 3
Honestly, maybe the single most talented player I've ever seen. He excelled at everything he did. Hit hard, played smart, ball hawk, and tremendous on special teams. If everyone didn't have such a low opinion on safeties, he'd be in the top 10.
Except that interception was due to a terrible pass by Krapernick who threw it way too high. Not exactly an accomplishment when it was a gift more than due to Ed Reed's ball skills.
As a Steelers fan, those Steelers-Ravens matchups with Ray and Ed and Hines and Bettis and Ben were some of the most enjoyable and brutal games to watch, so I know they must've been hell to play in. I always feared that even though we would win those games, they took a lot out on us. Much respect to them.
I hate that many forget Reed’s first three years he played Strong Safety where he won DPOY, had seasons with 5, 7, 9 interceptions, averaged 64 tackles, and forced 4 fumbles. He was easily the best safety of his generation.
Ed Reed was way better than Troy Polamalu... I'm sorry Steeler fans. Both were big play makers, but Reed made a few more. And he was a bigger hitter than Troy ever was...
I hate to admit it but it's true. Troy was more athletic but Ed had more football smarts, and certainly athletic enough. I honestly think Ed was a better overall player than 52.
as a raiders fan i can honestly say if that baltimore defense had an above avarage qb they could have easily been a dynasty that would have rivaled the patriots
Oscar Marroquin Flacco was above average for a couple years. They were in 3 afc Championship games with that group and should’ve went to 2 Super Bowls If Lee Evans could hold onto the ball. They did get that super bowl
Flacco was good but imagine they had an offense like they have right now with the defense back then. Especially from ‘02-‘08 without flacco. The Patriots would probably be a few Lombardi trophies short
Max Lu yeah sadly we never got that tho but our defense is still one of the best rn. Also after this draft I feel like we have a lot more valuable assets that will benefit our offense and defense
Hate the Ravens, but is this a little low? Like seriously, Reed has to be one of the very best safeties ever. I'd put Ronnie Lott ahead of him. But after that, who was better. I'm seriously asking. Am I forgetting someone?
Greatest nfl player ever. When you look at ed reeds all around play and the way he was feared by even the greatest qbs you can definitely make a case. He was always such a impact on opposing offenses there's no bigger game changer that didn't play qb in the history of the nfl
The BEST safety in NFL history & one of the greatest all-around football players period, is WAY too low on this list; likely for being the second best player on his own defense.
Whoever made this top 100 NFL players if all time and has Ed Reed as number #88 must be high or drunk. Ed Reed is the best safety of all time. He could do it all. If he didn't knock down the passes, he intercept them and returned some for touchdowns. He was a great special team player. He block punts and he return punts. He was a ferocious hitter. He belongs much higher on the list. He is a top 50 at least. Hall OF Famer, All-Pro, All-Star,Defensive Player of The Year. He should be in the top10.
I'm 21 years old and to me Ed Reed is the best defensive player I've ever seen. JJ Watt is closing in on him now, but Reed was just amazing to watch. ALWAYS making plays.
He started out as a strong safety. It's easy to forget that his breakout year in 2004 was as a strong safety before he got hurt in 2005 and the Ravens switched him to free safety.
I think we can all agree that Ed Reed is underrated. Doesn't get enough credit for being an all around safety. Big hitter, great in coverage, great as a center fielder. He did it all...But to Say "easily" is kind of disrespectful to me but that's you, no knock. Personally, I think Ronnie Lott, Ed Reed, and Rod Woodson are in the same class then after them, its a big gap. That's just me though
MAN...his replays ALONE should put him in the top 50! EXPLOSIVE! P.S. I remember the WARS that he and Hines Ward had. Must see TV right there! And for the same guy to be your presenter. That's RESPECT with a capital R.
The Ravens couldve won so many more superbowls during the 2000's and early 2010's too bad the only semi-consistent qb we had was joe flacco, Imagine if they had lamar
Ed Reed > Rod woodson as purely ball hawk, return man, blocks, fumble recoveries. Obviously woodson would be ahead in tackling & durablilty as he was able to play for several more years than ed. If ed played same amount of years def would have more ints. He leads in int yards & holds longest 108 & 107. Just like deion every time he comes near the ball he's a threat to take it to the house. & you can't say that about polumalu. Also I blame Tom Brady's cheap kick to ed while sliding in Championship for cutting his career short.
There aren’t 87 better players than Ed Reed. His talent works in any era of football. Imagine him on the field with Sammy Baugh or Jim “Haystacks” McGee. He’d have like 6 picks per game.
#88 really?? 7th for career interceptions 64 (really 6th since riley and woodson are tied at 65 int) 1590 int. return yards!!! dont see many ppl beating this record longest int. return at 108 yds. which he did againt my favorite team. but i aint mad punt, blocked punt, fumble recovery, and interception returned for a TD. so i would have to say top 50 at the very least, i would put him in the top 20 for the defensive accomplishments and records he has #go eagles

He said he's the greatest free safety...
They disrespected Ed, dude should be in mid 20s at top players ever
Imagine having ray lewis and Terrell suggs breathing down your neck and worrying about the center fielder 30 yards away killing you? Lol greatness
He Should Be much Higher
2/3 of the world is covered by water, the other 1/3 is covered by Ed Reed.

No he wouldn't lmao bad take
First man ever to intercept a pass from a 49ers QB in a Super Bowl. Let that sink in.
Yeah but Joe Montana didn't through it
Stephen Little *throw
+SixBurgh KnicksTape He intercepted him when Kaep was legit -- nowadays you'd have a point.
+Stephen Little Too bad Ed was a little kid when Montana was playing...unless you wanna bust out the good ole time machine
Except that interception was due to a terrible pass by Krapernick who threw it way too high. Not exactly an accomplishment when it was a gift more than due to Ed Reed's ball skills.
it's good seeing a Steelers player say these good things about the greatest safety of all time
NO ronnie lott

I would have loved to have seen what Sean Taylor could have become
Ed Reed > Troy Polamalu

***** Reed can do it all. He's all over the field intercepting, and laying big hits.
I'm a NE fan and I think they are pretty equal. But in their prime Ed reed is probably the better one.
MAN DRAGON Ed is a beast tho
mike lane We talking about Safeties. Put Troy at linebacker if you want. lol
David Robinson Nothing but respect to both, they will likely go into the Hall Of Fame Together Now
Any time I’m down I watch this. The love Bill has for Ed is amazing and is a testimony to his love of the game.
Growing up, it seems like every time I saw an Ed Reed highlight, he was running the football about 125 yards

Ed Reed Steve Atwater and Ronnie Lott. Three of the all time best safeties in NFL history.
Ronnie Lott, Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, Steve Atwater, Sean Taylor, Troy Polamalu, these are the best safeties I have ever seen.
All those other safetys are strong safetys. Ed is the best free safety by farrr
