      Lemme drop the link to anyone interested in the video this thread is speaking of. As it is filmed by a 360 camera, you have control on what you want to see. You can follow Ren, or you can look back at the crowd and watch their reaction. If you have a smart phone, you just wave it around. I watched on my fire TV and used the remote to look around. If you have access to VR, you can put the headset on and look around as if you were there.

      Have you seen the one where a camera follows the crowd through the streets as they are walking toward the meeting place for that performance? The crowd comes upon a 'police barrier' with a young woman on the ground bleeding. You can hear people saying, "Is that Jenny??" And then when he gets the crowd to participate in singing Screech's parts... so clever.

    I've had a few weeks to sit with this song and a few things that took a few plays to sink in were that Jenny was 14 too, the twins were called Jenny and James, Jenny was a silent girl who grew up from violent starts and Screech was a little prick, Stevie was the cause of everything and is probably the only one still alive. Genius level songwriting, just astounding.

    I've watched a few of these reactions, and it seems that Violet's Tale hits everyone in the gut. Male viewers tap into the revulsion and rage towards Violet's father and Stevie. Female viewers feel deep empathy towards Violet and her final act of bravery and sacrifice. The multi-generational cycle of abuse is never going to end if it's always hiding in the shadows. That's why I appreciate the trilogy so much. He's talking about REAL life.

    Ren is in fact a bard. In fact Hi Ren could be subtitled a Bard's Tale, as in Chaucer. Not Shakespeare exactly, his plays lacked the spontaneous nature of a tale being told the first time, as opposed to being witnessed or retold. When I compare him to Chaucer, modernized, I don't think I'm exaggerating. His talent as a teller of tales, both with his voice and instrument are in this era rather rare. It's also distinctly non-commercial, and having known of him for awhile I'm pleasantly surprised. Thanks Tauri for not only hitting his trending song but checking out his older performances. Great reaction as always!

    • @supertuscans9512
      @supertuscans9512 Год назад +2

      His talent is so multidimensional when it comes to his musical abilities that as an artist he’s very difficult to categorise into any single genre.
      Without doubt these three tales are incredibly clever and brilliantly performed but Ren offers far more than just being a kind of 21st century Bard / Kenny Rogers, (who was also an incredible story teller).
      His musical output is so eclectic that no one has any idea what he’s going to produce next. I don’t think anyone foresaw the Verve’s ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony” retake coming as his last release.

    • @fredbarnes2600
      @fredbarnes2600 Год назад +2

      @@supertuscans9512 Don't get me wrong. He's an absolutely brilliant songwriter, all the more for the informal feel he brings, and an amazing performer. It's just that listening to him I feel, the story, but I'm not at all limiting him to that. I grew up with Kenny Rogers, and yes at his best he was very good. But he stuck to a popular formula so at his worst, while it wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. Ren isn't sticking to a formula much at all, let alone a commercially viable one, and that might be what I admire most. It takes chutzpah

    • @supertuscans9512
      @supertuscans9512 Год назад +2

      Gotta agree that Rogers saw himself as a country artist and very much carved a storytelling niche for himself in that lane.
      He was none the less an incredible story teller as well. In many ways one could make the same claim in his genre of music about Lionel Richie.
      I’m far from convinced that Ren sets out with the objective to specifically write music that isn’t commercial. I think every creative artist wants their musical creativity to be heard by as wide an audience as possible, which ultimately if successful, makes it commercial by definition.
      Bizarrely enough REN’s greatest nemesis, his illness, in and odd way, has possibly simultaneously been one of the greatest contributors to his output, because it has given him a perspective that not many people have, coupled with a frustration from being handicapped that perhaps makes the creativity flow out him even more.
      Without his disease he wouldn’t be the same artist that he is today and maybe we would never have heard of him. I think he has so much talent that his music will end up being commercially successful whether he desires that or not.
      I cannot think a another artist who has so many people react to his music in such a short period of time, as Ren has, since ‘Hi Ren’ was released.

    Ren is absolutely Brilliant.....a Master Storyteller. The emotions he elicits....with a simple guitar riff and some words, is incredible. He is truly an ARTIST. What's wild is, Ren actually did a Busking concert to play this very trio Live, from Top to Bottom. And while I LOVE Ren's live performances, I would never have anyone listen to it FIRST, as Ren brings the audience in to sing Screech's parts and it gets a little muddy and confusing. But to watch him do the whole thing is just amazing. Great Reaction....keep going.

    A powerful Chaucerian tale of human tragedy that could sadly be all too real . My wife and I watched the video the other night and she burst into tears and has pushed both this and Hi Ren onto all her colleagues (she's a social worker) and I have sort of done the same (legal sphere). The response we have both gotten is the same - people relate so much in so many ways and want more and they start talking about the issue of mental health and the sad ubiquitousness of domestic violence, violence towards women, and intergenerational struggles.
    If I might, for a complete change of pace his video that is a retake of Bittersweet Symphony might be a great counterpoint to this one. It is bright and semi cheerful and is very much a love song to Britain and a shout out to the original song by the Verve.

    The talent of this young man, Ren, is unparalleled. His musicianship, his vocal dexterity and perfect diction, his outstanding singing voice with impeccable control, his poetic lyrical mind, his ability to keep his listeners 100% attentive to his brilliant story telling, via his super sensitive imagination and being able to give REAL life to his characters, literally blows my mind. These songs ( they aren't merely songs, they are works of art at the highest level ) are meticulously crafted by a true creative genius. This trilogy works so well because Ren starts the story at the end and back pedals through time to reveal the ultimate tragedy. I am 62 years old. I have written songs and poems since I was a teenager. I have never, ever been so inspired and so in awe of any creative artist ( and there have been so many " greats " before ) Ren is already ahead of the rest. If Hi Ren, this trilogy and Chalk Outlines were all he ever gave to the world, we have still all been spoilt and blessed by greatness.

    You've only scratched the surface of the genius that is Ren. He has many songs in different styles that all convey a message of some sort. Mental health, climate change, political observations, loss of loved ones etc.
    Some are rap, some are hip hop, some are ballads, some are covers or retakes, some are street performances/busking in Brighton and some are just pure fun. But, there is usually a message with his material.
    I could post a load of recommended songs here for all Ren related content from Ren, The Big Push, Trick the Fox and the various videos he has with collaborators such as Sam Tomkins, Chinchilla, Eden Nash and many more, but half the fun is digging deep to find it.

    Really enjoyed your reaction to this! It was really good to see how Ren guides you through those tales and see all the twists and turns visible. It kind of validated my emotions when I was hearing it for the first time.
    Enjoyed your comments as well. Terribly sorry about the women's plight. That should never be a thing :(

    *I am here for the song, I just hate to think of anyone being afraid to take a midnight stroll* Enjoyed your reaction, he's awesome!
    I don't want anyone to be in fear, I've lived it myself... on repeat actually. Just understand these points
    1. Men are the victim's of violent crime at a much higher rate (38% more likely).
    2. While women are twice as likely to be victims of (and report) sexual offenses, those offenses make up a tiny portion of violent crime overall. No, I'm not saying that any type of assault should be ignored or is in anyway "less important", I'm sure someone would go there, but Violet's Tale hit me and most people far harder.
    3. Anyone regardless of size or gender can win a fight if you're willing to fight VERY dirty (talking eye-gouging here, metal pipes, knives)... us normal folk don't want to commit violence, so when we do it's in our defense and for that, civility is off the table!
    What I take from the statistics... women might actually be safer on the streets with *0* men accompanying them. Either way, carry a weapon and use it without any regard of an attacker's safety... be it a gun, knife, pepper spray, or folding baton (if legal). Even a roll of dimes and a well-timed shot to the throat should buy enough time to escape, we all have tracheas. While I don't fight, I of course would in order to defend really anyone... but I'd feel a lot safer walking around with a woman who is armed or knows how to kick ass. Love ya all... this isn't meant to be argumentative, I'm just hoping to alleviate some fear.

    Great reaction, thanks. You may have already seen it but in case you haven't and since you said you'd like you see him live, there's a 360 live version of this done infront of an audience. It's not quite the same as being there in person but it's pretty close.

    He tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every town, city, and country at this very moment and the cycle continues

    Since this channel’s followers are sharp enough to appreciate it:
    The line about dancing with the devil might even have an even more sinister meaning: in some classic literature, “dancing” was used as a euphemism for intercourse.

    Hi Tauri! Night! Watching your older videos, to understand the entire context of the channel, I came across this one from REN! We literally travel through the narrative he brings as the lyrics of the song! He sings something different, which doesn't have sexual semantics, like those from Brazil, but a dramatic and sad narrative, in fact! This guy is very good! He takes us by the heart, without a doubt! It's how he adds emotion to every word, every sentence, involving us in the drama! I couldn't translate for a moment, but his stare at the camera said it all! Memories come, memories come! Rescues still need to be made! And what was that surprise at the end! The vacuum, the emptiness, the waiting! Of all the videos I managed to watch until today 02/15/24, this is without a doubt one of the best in dramas! Look! My comment was long, but you understood the trajectory of the story he tells, which reminded you of your situation and which you yourself comment on! An interview with you in “talking to Tauri” would be interesting! If you've already done it, I'll look for it in the videos! Tauri Great reaction! Be fine! 🌷

    Is there anything Ren can't do? I'm not religious, in fact, I lean more to the atheist side of the scale. But, if I was, my one wish would be for this man to regain his health.

    It's so weird how I'm usually not very "visually" imaginative (when somebody's telling me a story I don't usually see it like movie in my head). I also have semi-severe ADHD so it's hard for me to focus.
    And then there's Ren. Whenever the dude does *ANYTHING* I'm like 150% captivated, fully, and his way of telling a story just makes me experience it so vividly as if I was right there with the characters. My man is a real fucking genius.

    I think the way Ren’s performance was amazing and beautiful. The guitar playing especially but also his narration/character voice/singing were wonderful. The word choices fit the story Ren was conveying. Of course the subject of all three tales are tragedy mixed with street language and moments of descriptive violence which were horrifying.
    An apt commentary on modern society specifically focus on England in the UK on how people hurt each other.
    A thought I had in Violet’s Tale when he was on the bed just before the cool rewinding of time was the vocals he was singing … did anyone get Doctor Who vibes like the Time Lord vocals used in 2005 series (which is the year Ren narrated)? Not note for noteI don’t think just gave me the same vibe. Very British and clever of Ren to sing before the rewinding of Time.

    If you want to see him busking, you need to check out his band, The Big Push. One that I think will be right up your street is their cover of War Pigs, it’s amazing. Then, for something completely different, from the same afternoon, check out I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop. You’ll be blown away, I guarantee it.

    I know YOU did this some time ago, but I have just gotten up the "nerve" to explore Ren beyond "Hi Ren." You CRUSHED that reaction, so I couldn't wait to view your reaction to this one. You never disappoint! This smacked me in the face. I have been fortunate not to ever experience violence upon myself or anyone really close to me. This performance transcends all... even those who don't have personal experience with abuse and violence. You said, "This is just like pure art..." You're right on the money. You said that right after he makes the call on his cell. Who saw THAT coming??? No one. I believe there is a difference between "lyrics" and "Poetry." Ren is one of the few who can interweave the two into a seamless combination that just takes your breath away. You used the term "bard" to describe his style/genre.... He is absolutely a blend of millennia.... medieval bard and contemporary hip-hop and singer/songwriter. And genius. Your stunned silence at the end revealed how mesmerized you were, AND how incredibly empathetic you are. You made a tear run down my cheek. You really are a wonderful person. Pretty dang good reactor too!! 😉

    Yh, I totally understand the fear. It can't be a fraction if what you feel, but at night I do sometimes feel like danger could be around any corner, so, as the idiotic man that I am, plan on how I would maim the attacker. I don't even live in that rough of an area.
