62 from Washington state, I’m hooked on REN! Seriously have never seen talent like this in decades! Amazing artist and storyteller. I agree this guy got it and I enjoyed his reaction!
"It's like his voice is reaching to the heavens, even though it's kind of gritty and constricted at the same time - it's really interesting, it's so beautiful it's almost like looking at a painting up close and seeing the impasto brush strokes" I subscribed for this comment you made alone. Great reaction!
This was one of the best reactions I’ve seen to this song yet. I like how you kind of put us in the perspective of the people who are out on the streets at 3 AM (I’m not saying everyone out at 3 am is like screech) and they do know this kind of life to where they are used to it, it’s just regular life to some people. I know some people don’t choose this kind of life, but some people do.
Keep in mind that Hi Ren and the trilogy are both Ren as storyteller/bard. You can get into his other music to encounter him as a rapper, singer, and so on. Some of his songs could play on the radio and fit right in. And you haven't seen him with his band, The Big Push, which has a feel of its own.
Haha…maybe do Losing It next for a little break. I like to think songs like that are Ren plucking the good bits of the charismatic, funny, energetic “bad” Ren from Hi Ren and using them for positive things. Nothing but smiles in that one.
I was 7 months pregnant when my ex beat the ish outta me. My son was born with so many birth defects and died from them at 13. Ren has managed to capture DV from BOTH perspectives so perfectly it sends me right back to that night.....it's hard to watch and yet I can't stop
I really felt that 'Fuck you Ren' at the end... these songs just stab you in the soul and it's painful. If you want a super fun Ren, 'Losing it' is crazy entertaining.
Great reaction, Ren is something else entirely. Bardrock He likes to call it, We have a saying here in Wales ''To be born Welsh is a privilege, not born with a silver spoon in your mouth but born with music in your heart and poetry in your soul.'' - Croeso o Gymru.
Bardcore is a term Ren uses. I don't think you need to worry about being disappointed by his other songs. He bends and blends genres, chameleon-like. I am stunned by his writing abilities, but even his cover songs are remarkable.
I have watched two twitch streamers of world of tanks for over ten years. One is a scientist. He analyses, he calculates and schemes and when he explains, it's understandable... the other is an artist (and he is a better/more talented player, more successful) but his plays, his moves, his timing, it's unfathomable and even HE cant explain it... for him, he just does what "feels" right at the time. For everyone watching, it's poetic genius! This is the same!
It surprises me how many reactors don’t get the twist at the end because they are so focused on the minutiae of the performance. I love it when someone gets it and goes to the next level like you did.
You called him a minstrel, and at the beginning of Violet’s tale you can actually watch him pause and put on his minstrel’s mask to steel himself for telling suck a dark story after he gets up from the hospital bed. He even mentioned somewhere that telling stories like this takes a toll on him as well. SUBSCRIBED!
Man that moment gets me everytime. It's like when a parent knows they have to discipline their child and they hate to have to do it but realize it's necessary so they take a deep breath to steel themselves for the unpleasant task ahead
As a writer, I can confirm that to tell a really powerful story, to tell a tale you want others to invest in, an artist has to invest themselves within it, first. You'll only get heavy engagement, if you give heavy engagement. You have to open yourself up if you expect to inspire others to do the same.
"This might be the greatest short film I've ever watched." Great reaction! I love how you are trying to weigh how much to go into emotional engagement and how much into analyzing. They are hard to integrate. The emotionally captivating nature of this work of art is what makes it so powerful. Beautiful to see that in you but I also appreciate your thoughts and connections that you made.
One of the best reactions to Ren I have ever seen. We, here in Serbia have a storyteller (I can't say rapper) that is very similar. Unfortunately, he tells his stories in Serbian, so the meaning would be lost in translation. But I am glad that people like MarcheloDeFacto and Ren are gaining traction and recognition they deserve! Thanks for the reaction!
The story of generational trauma is important, so many believe that certain people are to blame for their own circumstances. The truth is that life isn't equal or fair for everyone. Welfare and mental health help should always be available to those in real need.
Don't forget: silence is a reaction; sitting there in awe is a reaction. There are some artists that demand our full attention, be one a voyeur, RUclips reactor, or anyone else. Sometimes, a simple glance at the lense, in solidarity with your viewers, speaks more than any words ever could.
It's funny, when you pull back and look at the scene from afar, it's a grown man alone in a room talking to himself and glancing emotionally at an inanimate lens. However, somehow in the moment it absolutely feels like in some weird asynchronous time line, I am actually speaking directly to each one of you. It's not an act, in the moment it doesn't feel performative. It's really weird. I think as people we are often so used to emotionally connecting with people in unusual ways now, that it can be quite a similar experience whether you are face to face, over the phone, or even completely disconnected by time via a video camera. I've never really thought much about it till you brought this up! 😃🤘
First off, thank you for being the first reactor I've seen that can explain the reverb going on during Violet's Tale. A lot of reactors pick up on and understand it's proof of the live performance, but otherwise have left the more intricate details out (probably because they don't understand them). Good, good stuff. Thank you. Secondly, I 100% understand and agree with that apprehension you expressed about venturing beyond "Hi Ren." I'm very much the same way, especially when it comes to splashy viral hits, right? Lots of musicians and artists can have that perfect storm moment where something incredible results. But when you explore their past music or whatever they release in the future, that same "it" factor isn't there. But I've not found that to be the case with Ren. No, not everything he's done is on the level of "Hi Ren" or the Jenny/Screech trilogy, or a handful of other standouts. But I will say that everything I've heard from him has maintained a sense of care and quality, whether it's his pure rap stuff or his pop/rock stuff or even his covers performed with The Big Push. My personal opinion is that he's just a fantastic songwriter with a wide range of tools and understands how to use those tools effectively.
before Ren i never thought that i would ever sit down to watch a 9 minute or even 13 minute music video but with Ren its always enjoyable to watch it over and over again especially reaction of others who watch it for the first time. There's always something new that every reaction gives insight on the video that i have never seen , its like watching it for the first time.
I am 38 and if I am being honest I haven’t had many musical artists really capture me and then Ren came along and my world changed. Not only in his sheer brilliance but he has redefined music to me, I honestly thought I had heard it all and everything was just a regurgitation but with the breadth of this artists ways to express himself is just mind blowing. Can’t wait for you to join me and all the other Ren fans down the rabbit hole. Next has to be Chalk Outlines Live
@@PrymalChaos I can confirm that you are not and will never be, but a part of you that you don’t know exists is missing without hearing the masterpiece that is Chalk outlines
@@PrymalChaos it's a must. Over past couple of days, I've played it over and over, sometimes it breaks me and sometimes it's just beautiful. Ren's best so far, and that's a massive compliment given how great his art is.
It's good to see that there's a lot of people joining us down this rabbit role. I'm 100% invested in knowing every bit of his work man. It' pretty much the only thing that I'm listening the last 3 weeks or so since I found Hi Ren. It goes from rock (Girls, Crucify your Culture), to reggae (Humble), rap/hip hop (The Hunger, Genesis, What You Want) medieval bard (Jenny & Screech) to pop (Chalk Outlines, Blind Eyed)... man, I really hope that he reaches the masses in no time.
Thank you for this. I had a similar feeling after Hi Ren, avoiding anything else from his catalog as I wanted to hold on to my experience of Hi Ren. Fortunately, there are sooo many reactions to Hi Ren, I could spend a good few weeks listening to reactors reacting to Hi Ren before moving on. For me, it has been wonderful to discover that Ren has many facets to his talent: original songs, duets, and with a band called The Big Push.
@@PrymalChaos No matter what Ren song you pick you'll come out a winner. It's a safe bet that when you press play you'll either smile, cry, or start some deep contemplating. Whichever one it is, it's guaranteed to make your life a little more fulfilling.😁
I grew up in a situation similar to Violet's, I've been in the center of violence and abuse. I never speak on it because no one knows how to respond to that, it makes people uncomfortable. I am forever grateful to Ren for making this song, for bringing it up, for giving a voice to the people who've spent their entire lives trying to find a way to cope all alone because nobody else will talk to them about it. We need more artists like Ren. I've watched several reactions to this trilogy, and one of the most consistent things I see across them is people hyper focusing on how skillfully the story is told so they don't have to address what's being said. I think those people are completely missing the point.
I'm so glad your hear to write that, that's all. I've had two violent partners. We survived girl, many don't. Some men experience the same, which is incredible but true. Abusive humans come in both genders and in all walks of life. I hate to say we are victims, but we are in a sense, of the students who participate in psychological warfare.
(Sorry this is a bit long, but you made a great point and I wanted to expand) ^^ I added this after I finished as a kind of heads up 😂 Yep, I feel like while Ren couldn’t give novel length backstories & character development, I’ve watched a lot of reactions & at the end most people share basically their “take away” was a very generalized “zoomed out” story, with an acceptance the characters were born into difficult circumstances… the backstories helped with how their circumstances were woven into how they saw the world… how they chose to live their lives were important not just for the plot, but because it reflected what they survived… For me, Ren clearly wanted to give enough info to have the listener care about the story in its totality, and to get them to care about each one, (even Screech) and maybe (hopefully) the listener could be able to resist assigning judgement or blame or fault &/or be critical of their stories & choices, instead maybe (hopefully) the listener would extend grace for being human, not perfect, and doing the best with what they had in those moments. There are so many VERY nuanced & complex topics living in the lyrics, like alcoholism, child SA, welfare use/“fraud” drug use, intimate partner SA, DV/IPV, sexwork, youth violent crime offenders, police involved ☠️… the list really can go on, because Ren was more courageous than a lot of people understand & planted those seeds to elicit desperately needed conversations, because like you, I too know how I wish I could openly discuss parts of the horrible things I survived as a way to help people understand how unhealthy and wrong the general public assumptions are, how the judgments inside those assumptions only serve to silence survivors and shame those experiencing it into not seeking help, and how survivors NEED a community but the silencing of almost all healthy conversation only perpetuates harm.
Thank you for your reaction, your humanity shows and is touching. Ren is the complete package. Everything I've seen him do, in so many genres, is quite remarkable.
Sad that Jenny took after her mum as a silent one, James took after his father as a violent soul. Ren you are amazing in your storytelling. The emotional impact is always there .. the tears.
I have watched many reactions to this trilogy. I commented in one that he reminded me of a Bard; a Troubadour playing to a Medieval manor house crowded with villagers, servants and the Lords and ladies. Even his striped jacket conjures the impression of a Court Jester. Your hit it on the head with your reference to a Minstrel with a Lute. Your are the first person I have seen to voice this link as I did. Thank you for giving your reactions to this song. I shall let the video progress with interest.
Child of the "60's here... Music has been my life... and has saved my life! Many times. My daughter sent me "Hi Ren" approximately 4 mo. ago, with a comment saying, "I think you will appreciate this" She knows me well! Havent listened to much else since (and I thought I found the best talent in the world 11 years ago, totally devoted, the whole time too... Then came REN! I have listened to most everything he has but I gotta say, I keep coming back to watch reactions mostly to "Hi Ren" and the "Tales" but if its a really good geniine reaction... I'm down the "rabbit hole" with them, all the way, I'm literally addicted to watching them... And "brother of music" im so looking forward to watching your journey, to once again, vicariously relive my experiace through your reactions! Truley one of the top 3 out of literally well over 500, and thats just on this and "Hi" - Seriously!☺️ There are no words in the english language, I can think of, that can describe just how phenomenal Ren is... ALIEN is the closest one that comes to mind!
Your reaction made me tear up (again). Incredible artistry, both Ren and his cameraman, both Oscar/Grammy worthy, if they ever lowered themselves enough to even participate in those rigged awards.
F*ck you Ren.....perfect! I love that he rewinds with the guitar then winds back to the current time with the guitar. This is why we watch reactions because we get to relive the first time we saw it. His genius is epic. I loved your tears! It's so honest and connected. Great reaction!
@@Shelleyc1972 Thank you! I appreciate you watching.! To be honest my first ever reaction was to a Parkway Drive song. They’re an Aussie Deathcore band. At that point, when I embarked on this journey the last thing I expected was to have so many videos where I cry on the internet. 😅
I really enjoyed your reaction. I've seen A LOT of reactions to Jenny and Screech and you pointed out some details that were new to me. Very interesting. I agree that Ren is a massively talented story teller - he's also a great collaborator - have a look at his work with Sam Tompkins and Chinchilla. You get to hear him sing!
don’t worry, we get it 💜 i had to watch this maybe a dozen times before i could coherently tell my sister about it. it left me with the same sense of awe i felt the first time i saw a Picasso in person.
With things like this I become anxious about showing people for fear that they won't see the depths of it, or catch it's message the way I did. Experiencing art like this can feel really special. Like an authentic connection between you and the artist. And all you want to do is pass that experience on to others. But often they don't 'see' it. Or they go into the experience disconnected and it goes over their head. It warms my heart to see a community of people on RUclips who see what I saw. ❤️
Hooray, the first reactor to hear the opening section as a trumpet 👍 You are also spot on, in my opinion, in drawing comparison to the way Tom Waits paints vivid pictures in our minds with his story telling, making us feel like we are there, witnessing every scene. I am a huge Tom Waits fan and now. equally, a huge REN fan. You know your technical stuff too, regarding sound engineering and I can tell you appreciate this part of the artistry too ( the fella, Samuel, who films and directs these video's is also absolutely sensational at his craft - many folk overlook his contributions ) You are a fantastic fella. Your reaction at the end, when Ren hits us with the " punchline " was exactly as it should be from someone who totally realises the enormity of what they have just witnessed. Massively emotional story, told by a creative genius of the like I have never seen before. 🙏 ... Oh, try Ren & Chinchilla HOW TO BE ME and also CHALK OUTLINES ..... you will find the same strength of artistry in both these pieces of art 🙏
Honestly it's one of the greatest pieces of art I've ever seen. Another point I wish I had mentioned is how he uses these topsy-turvy chromatic arpeggios to indicate travelling back through time at the beginning of Violet's story. You could almost see the screen go all wobbly like a 60s sitcom flashback sequence. He makes genius seem effortless.
I've listened to this so many times, but watching your reaction had me sobbing again. It's good to see genuine emotion. He pulls at your heartstrings in such a complex, real and brazen way. True stories that happen all the time dredged from the dark into light and in your face. He is magic.
Its okay. I get it. Your raw emotion is beautiful to see. He has this impact to some degree on all of us. His genius knows no bounds. Hes breaking the genre boundaries. Please go down the Ren rabbithole. Theres so much incredible music, twists and turns, changing it up, vocals, visuals, flows, rapping, reggae, scat, beatboxing, different instruments. Its a beautiful ride. If you havent listened to the big push doing i shot the sheriff/zion rd/hip hop. That exact version. You are in for a treat.
You are correct when you said you were pretty good at this. I stepped into the Ren rabbit hole months ago and have been ping ponging around down here ever since. The rise of the reactions recently is a very interesting organic thing that has started because of Ren's work. I really enjoyed how you caught so much of all the individual parts of this performance and got that emotional punch at the end. This is all some how therapeutic for viewers because we all can relate to powerful story telling. Thank you for a great reaction.
RIGHT!!!!! 😂 The sheer magnitude of the intensity of his delivery of multiple strong emotions is astounding, it steals ur breath, lifts u into soaring then crashing down again and u can’t turn away from it even though u will try! I think it’s the raw gritty nature of the life of a full time Busker that has made his stories so razor sharp! As a fellow Busker in Nola for almost 8 years it felt like he definitely knows where we live. Brilliantly crafted and executed 😢
I don't think there's been a song from Ren that has disappointed me. His style is so eclectic his range is wide and his abilities with music and writing are absolutely stunning.
I just like seeing people live Ren as much as I do. I don't expect you to say anything profound, so don't feel pressured to have something to say. Just like finding kindred souls who are as blown away as I was first hearing it. ❤❤
If you want to see his singing talent then definitely Chalk Outlines with Chincilla (live) or singing with The Big Push (I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop mash up)
In his Live shows he goes into more detail... like Jenny being a street walker, getting stopped by the cop Richard! Also... Patrick doesn't answer because he's Busy with his girl... the one he calls, being told she's Busy! He catches them... flips out... kills Jenny, then gets himeslf killed! There's more... but I'll save that... as I see him making part 4... Richard's Tale!
Ren mentions the Midas touch in another song. I think it's "I forgot how to be me." Also: I love your analysis of the use of space and sound. I also think that moment when he looks up into the staircase is to embody Violet's perspective of lying down helplessly and looking up at the ceiling....
Man. This comment really threw me down the rabbit hole. It really got me thinking. It started with one thing and spiraled out of control. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To continue that line of thought about use of sound and space. In the first half of Violet's Tale he walks to the end of the hallway to a corner and just stands there. To me it signifies a change of direction in her life just like how the hallway turns.. The way that the camera being so close signifying how trapped she feels up until the corner where the lyrics are about her new life away from her family. This being where the camera slowly distances itself. In the first half of Violet's Tale the camera is very close as he walks down the hallway at which point there is a turn in the hallway. The camera then moves away before Ren catches up. The close space can represent the feeling of being trapped in her situation, the hallway being her life which is bleak and empty. Which then changes direction when she finally moves out. Away and to freedom. Unfortunately it is taken away when she meets Stevie and the camera comes in close again. In the beginning the lyrics are about her horrible life at home. Then we reach the corner where it changes direction for a moment. At which point Stevie comes into the picture and we resume the tale. As we reach the stairwell we see we are at the bottom floor, possibly representing she was at rock bottom for most of her life. Ascending the stairs along with Stevie her life is changing, things are escalating. Then your point about the staircase is on point. Helpless with nowhere to go except to possibly heaven when it's all over. Then we reach the door. Oh my gosh! We reach the door! Throughout the whole Tale almost every door was closed. From the start of the tale there was only a single direction open to Violet. Aside from the momentary freedom at the corner, every other door was closed to her. When we reach the top of the first set of stairs there is finally an option. The option of ascending into the dark abyss, possibly to represent the darkness and unknown of death and ascending to heaven. Instead of ending her life herself, what does she do? She cowers in her room again unable to do anything. Up to this point there have been 3 doorways. The first was crossed on the opening of Violet's Tale. The second during the time where Stevie was charming her. The third with the line of history repeating which leads to the staircase and possibly thoughts of suicide. Each door representing some significance. Finally we reach the final door. Initially closed, it's opened by Stevie who is seemingly possessed by the Devil at this point. Through most of the song Violet hasn't been able to do anything, just moving forward. The one time she made a change and moved out, Stevie came into the picture. Trapped again at rock bottom, Stevie opens a door for her. Through the door we finally escape the cramped and empty apartment to outside. Unfortunately her escape is to a dark and dirty back alley still alone and still with Stevie. Finally we go forward in time where broken, Violet finally breaks her silence. Coincidentally this is also when we hit the main(?) street. Out of the alley with more space to breathe, Violet breathes her last in order for her children to breathe their first. The camera moves away and we see doors. Many, many doors. In fighting for those last steps forward outside of the alley, Violet has given her children a chance. All these opportunities and directions they can go. Unfortunately, as we all know, it was all an illusion. Just like Violet, they were not able to open any doors to escape. Trapped in the streets, the only directions being forward to the tales of Jenny and Screech. Or backwards to the tale of Violet.
Thank you for your open and pure reaction to Ren. It's one of the best reactions i've seen and I can truly tell how much in awe you are of him. Yes, he's like a minstrel or a bard. It also reminded me of the penny dreadful stories but played out. We're so lucky to be alive in a time where we have Ren. Love your reactions and you've gained a subscriber and a fan! Love from the netherlands!
Good news is that no matter what Ren does and the different Genres .. He smashes it... Chalk Outlines (live) with Chincilla is a top tier song, but then his lighter side (The Hunger, Gensis, Have what you want, power) should all be top 10 hits and Money Game Part 1 and 2 are epic .. Then theres the songs with The Big Push and him busking...
You are going to be in for a joyful ride. The rabbit hole is deep. I swear there's not a bad song and I have over 70 in a RUclips playlist between his solo, collaborations and the band! Some are styles that I would not have thought I'd enjoy but it's amazing. We are all so fortunate and I hope and pray there's a lot more to come!
How have i not come across this channel 😮thought I'd found every Ren reactor.? But you are head and shoulders above, fantastic breakdown.Checking out all your past Ren reactions and all amazing.👍
Loved everything you said ! Oh my god "an event in my life". Thats exatly how i feel. I personally call Ren my musical messiah! ❤❤❤ He touches on the human experience in a way that everyone can authenticly relate. He is raises the worlds vibration just like a messiah .❤❤❤❤
Great articulate reaction with some wonderful descriptions, stories and imagery. You are right. I have seen Ren busking many times and it’s always fun to watch people when they just HAVE to stop and watch.
i get what you were saying the first feeling from hi -ren is intense and the reason i started watching reactors is because i wanted to see my 1st time experience through other people eyes. Now i am hooked on Ren and reactors lol
Loved your reaction!! I fell under Ren's spell about 3 months ago and now i am addicted to the reaction videos 😆.I have watched far to many but yours i think is one of the best. I trully believe that if Shakespeare was to be reborn in the 21st Century Ren would be what he sounded like.
It's touching to hear "it's a gift from god" and see the reflection of your tears. It feels singular, and we instinctively know it won't happen again. It's not just the story, tear-jerking as it is. It's a kind of dumbstruck awe.
Everything you said and the way you said it perfectly expresses the experience of discovering Ren. I've enjoyed his music since about 2016 and, selfishly perhaps, I wish him the healing and recovery that will bring him back. He's in Canada receiving extensive treatment right now. The next song? I'd go for Losing It. It's him having fun rapping around Brighton. In his style...
How dare you not share him😂😂, im just jealous, I feel like I should have known about Ren, being from the UK, but I've lived in Australia 22 years now. Some things don't make it here. I'm just so thankful Hi Ren turned up on my YT homepage that day. Kudo's to RUclips, they knew what the world needs in this aspect.
30:31 Right?! His gift is knowing just how to crack up open and deftly poke us in the heart with every tool he has at his disposal. Social commentary? Check. Superb storytelling? Check check. Acting that draws us in? Checkity check. Impeccably choreographed video production? Fucking kills this (along with the people he works with in making this happen) Musical talent? He’s clearly put in the hours. Vocal performance? Hell yes! He’s our version of Shakespeare as a minstrel. Can you just imagine hearing this fucking guy walk down your street performing? Chef’s kiss.
I have just listened to Jenny & Screech for first time, having been mesmerised by "Hi Ren' some 40+ times....Yes had exactly the same diffidence in taking on a new Ren experience as yourself - not expectant at all, not wanting to be disappointed, a little scared to maybe be placed in a diluted emotional place because I have such high expectations now....well I am here to say it has not happened one jot. Pffff- no words for the moment. ......
Great reaction mate. Ren has a bloody funny and naughty side too - try Love Music part 3 or What you want... This lad hasn't missed once on any song I've heard in the Ren rabbit hole 🤯🤯🤯
Will Ramos. The front man lead singer of Lorna Shore has a great trilogy called the pain remains... he’s another favorite of mine that tells great stories.
Ah!! You’re the first person I’ve heard to mention the similar story telling of Tom Waits’ Small Change (and Burma Shave, Romeo is Bleeding, etc.) It’s the first thing that I thought of when I heard the Tales months ago. I’ve shared Ren with all my Tom Waits fan friends.
The parallels were as clear as day, even with both pieces being wildly different. Both extraordinary story telling and poetry. I guess I always figured the days of the legendary, honest, authentic,, raconteur were behind us.
For me, the best way to describe this is, imagine during C19 lockdowns and binging your favorite season of some British crime drama.... all 12 episodes. That's the feeling I get watching these three songs in succession (or watching the live performances).
Your thoughts at the end were great - I don't know how you put your brain back into order so quickly! And don't worry about having no words at the end. I've seen reactors (to this video) who have just got up and walked away, closing the recording.
Great reaction, now watch The Tale of Jenny and Screech live 360 version for your own pleasure. It's wonderful and includes a little more of the story and the love the people of Brighton have for REN.
Yeah, for me it's not just the emotional impact of the lyrics and subject matter that gets to me. In this trilogy, as with "Hi Ren", what also gets me choked up is just the sheer god-level talent this guy possesses. Don't know why, but that in itself kinda makes me tear up. Whenever a human being does something that seems almost impossible it just gets to me.
Head on down the Ren rabbit hole.... You won't be disappointed...even his live busking tracks with his band the big push, he is massively consistent, but also massively different.
Did anybody notice the interesting juxtaposition where Screech's Tale starts with "the story begins right at the end"...and then at the end, Ren says, " our story it ends right at the start." He is incredible in his lyricism, phraseology, word choices, etc. I have not found a single song of his that does not amaze me. I look forward to March 29th and the release of his first post Hi Ren song.
It highlights the cyclical nature of violence. But lyrical it ends right at the start, we started with Jenny dead in the street and it ends with screech dead in the street.
Daily I watch reactions of Ren, I'm so blown away with his talent. I really loved this reaction, so vulnerable and honest. Your production insights are masterful. Adore insights from others that went over my head. Thank you ❤
If you're (we) afraid he's a one hitter... PLEASE continue on this journey with Ren. You are mature and experienced enough to know that we all go through different phases... HIS TALENT IS UNDENIABLE. I would like to suggest a lesser viewed ( although popular) video... His cover of Englishman in New York ❤❤❤ BTW.. I'm a new subscriber I truly enjoyed your reaction. 😎
He is just a once in a generation artist. A Bob Dylan, a Stevie Wonder, a Jeff Buckley. I’m 55 and it’s been a long time since I’ve been this excited about music. A long long time.
"Fuckin Ren." That's a shared sentiment to the depth of emotions he evokes in most of us.😢
Haha. I forgot I said that. I think it may possibly be the only curse word on my channel with around 300 videos. 😭😭
Probably the best reaction to Ren I've seen. I'm 53 and Ren is the most talented and important artist I've heard/ seen in decades. Bravo to you both.
Wow! I appreciate that! What a compliment. I think artists like Ren come around once a generation.

How many other Ren fans started grinning when he said if you saw Ren busking you would stop and watch
Me lol I'd happily change my day for The Big Push, Ren n Sam
"He should have been following The Witcher" Great one!!
A really wonderfully authentic, compassionate & knowledgeable reaction to Ren...a true artist of our generation ❤️
I'll say it again... he's On His OWN LEVEL!!! No One Compares to him!!!
It’s a Welsh dragon inside him. 🤣
Man that twist really stung. I was ready for the song to end, not to be dropped into an existential crisis.
He calls his genre "bardcore"
"This might be the greatest short film I've ever watched." Great reaction! I love how you are trying to weigh how much to go into emotional engagement and how much into analyzing. They are hard to integrate. The emotionally captivating nature of this work of art is what makes it so powerful. Beautiful to see that in you but I also appreciate your thoughts and connections that you made.
Thank you for sticking around!
Thank you for the kind words!
@@PrymalChaos thanks for the reply. Oh, yeah, if you want another emotional song, go listen to Tool - Schism.
The story of generational trauma is important, so many believe that certain people are to blame for their own circumstances. The truth is that life isn't equal or fair for everyone. Welfare and mental health help should always be available to those in real need.
Well said.
Perfectly put. it's all next level, and then their are the standouts within the back catalogue. He is Art, on every level.
before Ren i never thought that i would ever sit down to watch a 9 minute or even 13 minute music video but with Ren its always enjoyable to watch it over and over again especially reaction of others who watch it for the first time.
Not sure I'm emotionally ready. 🙃🙃
Honestly I felt like I gambled on this one... And won!
@@PrymalChaos No matter what Ren song you pick you'll come out a winner. It's a safe bet that when you press play you'll either smile, cry, or start some deep contemplating. Whichever one it is, it's guaranteed to make your life a little more fulfilling.😁
I felt the same.
And I think sick boi and Chalk outlines are the other two that could make up one complete serious with Hi Ren and Jenny and Screech.
(Sorry this is a bit long, but you made a great point and I wanted to expand)
^^ I added this after I finished as a kind of heads up 😂
Yep, I feel like while Ren couldn’t give novel length backstories & character development, I’ve watched a lot of reactions & at the end most people share basically their “take away” was a very generalized “zoomed out” story, with an acceptance the characters were born into difficult circumstances…
the backstories helped with how their circumstances were woven into how they saw the world…
how they chose to live their lives were important not just for the plot, but because it reflected what they survived…
For me, Ren clearly wanted to give enough info to have the listener care about the story in its totality, and to get them to care about each one, (even Screech)
and maybe (hopefully) the listener could be able to resist assigning judgement or blame or fault &/or be critical of their stories & choices, instead maybe (hopefully) the listener would extend grace for being human, not perfect, and doing the best with what they had in those moments.
Couldn't agree more
Sad that Jenny took after her mum as a silent one, James took after his father as a violent soul.
It was plain as day for me. Ren's art works on so many intricate levels.
No Oscar's, Emmy's, Grammys, for the Independant Artist who are Slaughtering the Music industry!!!!

There are no words in the english language, I can think of, that can describe just how phenomenal Ren is... ALIEN is the closest one that comes to mind!
I appreciate how Ren uses the acoustic features of the places he produces this videos -- stone floors, high ceilings, echoing hallways...
It's brilliant right?!
You know the best thing we can give to our little ones are stories at bedtime routinely, poetry and verse.
Creativity imagination communication and sanity/ strength in a mad mad world.

His two duets with Chinchilla are amazing
How to be and Chalk Outlines. His rapping is also incredible he can do it all.
By far the best reaction to this I’ve seen - you really understood all the little subtleties that make their work so special
Thanks mate! What an awesome thing to say. I appreciate you watching.
Agreed! Your demonstration of reverb blew my mind.
don’t worry, we get it 💜 i had to watch this maybe a dozen times before i could coherently tell my sister about it. it left me with the same sense of awe i felt the first time i saw a Picasso in person.
Ren and Chinchilla are great together, go watch them busk Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye if you haven't seen it yet.
Sam's use of the camera and it's microphone to create tension and design the sound is nothing short of genius. Just absolute brilliance
This is such an intelligent reaction to this. Thank you. This music punches you in the gutt. It's beyond songs....
Thanks Anne!
Great great great honest, emotional, deep reaction. Ren has a way of bringing out vulnerability in us, which I think is beautiful.
I've listened to this so many times, but watching your reaction had me sobbing again. It's good to see genuine emotion. He pulls at your heartstrings in such a complex, real and brazen way. True stories that happen all the time dredged from the dark into light and in your face. He is magic.
Thanks Caz. Lol I watched Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice react to this and I was tearing up again. The message is so powerful.
Ren's catalog WILL NOT let you down. Also check out his band The Big Push.
I haven't heard a bad Ren song. He is a really versatile and deep artist. But he can also have fun and make light-hearted songs that are great too. 👍
Its okay.
Chalk Outlines feat. Chinchilla (live) - more feels will be had. I’ll stop spamming the comments now. 😂

You're welcome! What an experience!
Absolute singular talent.
I don't think there's been a song from Ren that has disappointed me. His style is so eclectic his range is wide and his abilities with music and writing are absolutely stunning.
Also - Crutch feat. Bibi. Broke my heart.
His band Big Push I shot the Sheriff/Rd to Zion/hip hop is a must listen and has an upbeat vibe.

All we ever needed ist Ren and his guitar...this is a RENaissance 🙏🏼
In his Live shows he goes into more detail... like Jenny being a street walker, getting stopped by the cop Richard!
Also... Patrick doesn't answer because he's Busy with his girl... the one he calls, being told she's Busy!
He catches them... flips out... kills Jenny, then gets himeslf killed!
There's more... but I'll save that... as I see him making part 4... Richard's Tale!
Wait! There's more!?
Ren mentions the Midas touch in another song. I think it's "I forgot how to be me." Also: I love your analysis of the use of space and sound. I also think that moment when he looks up into the staircase is to embody Violet's perspective of lying down helplessly and looking up at the ceiling....
Great catch!
Man. This comment really threw me down the rabbit hole. It really got me thinking. It started with one thing and spiraled out of control.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
To continue that line of thought about use of sound and space.
@@markjason8124 fantastic observations!

Welcome to Rens beautifully twisted universe.
You are the first person to link him to minstrels and Shakespeare that I’ve been shouting at the screen since I’ve started watching Ren.
Haha. Glad I could help!

You are right. I have seen Ren busking many times and it’s always fun to watch people when they just HAVE to stop and watch.
Hopefully his health picks up and he can continue blowing people's minds.
i get what you were saying the first feeling from hi -ren is intense and the reason i started watching reactors is because i wanted to see my 1st time experience through other people eyes. Now i am hooked on Ren and reactors lol
Haha. Yeah. That seems to be a fairly common experience. 🤗
You should check out the live crowd version of this. Adds a whole new dynamic to it.
Not sure I could handle it. I broke down again when I showed someone else. 😆😆
If you have a vr headset, it's like being there in 360°.
As a man and as an artist I will tell you that history passes us by too often in ignorance of greatness. Ren is a moment in time that will endure.
That's really flattering Richard. I appreciate you watching!
It's touching to hear "it's a gift from god" and see the reflection of your tears. It feels singular, and we instinctively know it won't happen again. It's not just the story, tear-jerking as it is. It's a kind of dumbstruck awe.
One of the greatest pieces of performance art I’ve ever witnessed.
I think I'll do that thank you!
These songs remind me of the songs my father played when we were camping.
Now Ren has to continue this story.....i will be watching for Stevie's Tale and on and on
The eventual "Fuck you Ren!" We've all been there.
May be the only curse word I've ever said on the channel.
30:31 Right?! His gift is knowing just how to crack up open and deftly poke us in the heart with every tool he has at his disposal.
Social commentary? Check.
Superb storytelling? Check check.
Acting that draws us in? Checkity check.
Impeccably choreographed video production? Fucking kills this (along with the people he works with in making this happen)
Musical talent?
He seems like he could have a penchant for cheekiness.
It was all just stream of consciousness. The reality of the whole thing didn't really hit me till later that day. That video rocked me to my core.
True art has no words. Thank you for the reaction/video 🙏🏻💖⭐🤍🐺
Thanks for watching!
This is honestly the best reaction I have seen to Ren's music.
Thanks! I appreciate you saying that. The video really knocked me on my butt.
Very good catch! I was wondering about the meaning of the last line that the story ‘ends right at the start’
Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for checking it out. Ren is really in a class of his own.
@@PrymalChaos 🤩🤩
The thing that stuns me the most about Ren is the high quality of virtually all of his work.
Great reaction - yep Ren is a genius at whatever he does ❤
“f*ck you Ren” - Everybody 😂
If you're (we) afraid he's a one hitter... PLEASE continue on this journey with Ren. You are mature and experienced enough to know that we all go through different phases... HIS TALENT IS UNDENIABLE. I would like to suggest a lesser viewed ( although popular) video... His cover of Englishman in New York ❤❤❤ BTW.. I'm a new subscriber I truly enjoyed your reaction. 😎
Best reaction I've seen to this. I too kept expecting Ren to add 'Toss a coin to your Witcher' at intervals lol. You Sir have earned a sub 👍
Wow, thanks! I'm not sure that's true but I'll take the compliment! ❤️
This makes me think of the Broadway musical called "Blood Brothers".
He is just a once in a generation artist. A Bob Dylan, a Stevie Wonder, a Jeff Buckley. I’m 55 and it’s been a long time since I’ve been this excited about music. A long long time.
I feel ya.
