Haha! We all do the staring thing. I do it for days. I just go to my classroom and stare for a half hour. Then fiddle around with some things; then stare for a half hour.

I love what you’ve done so far. I work like that too. I start in one spot and go around the room clockwise. I’m changing my decor this year. My classroom is very white so I decided to go with lots of bright colors, I like how you did the magnet on the back of your border I think I might give it a try. You’ve given me a lot of great ideas so far. 😁
Maybe the black washi tape could go on the cracks of the white board? Then it wouldn’t be the same border but it would still separate it?

I had the same idea as Megan! Or what about the magnetic border from the previous teacher? I'm not sure exactly what it looked like design wise but the width seemed to be a good width!

You can get 25 feet of magnetic tape from Lakeshore or Amazon. I’ve gone through almost 75 feet this year because I’ve magnetized all of my vocabulary cards and their synonyms and antonyms. It was. Lot of work to type, print, laminate, cut, and put the magnetic tape on but it was so worth the work. It’s a big focus in my classroom this year.

That is a nice classroom I like the colors and the Big windows and your own side door. I have one too in my art room.
On the cracks I would just do one layer of border with the scallops facing away from your middle section. It looks good :)

I ALSO hate writing the date. And I HATE changing calender cards. So I got a huge desk calendar, and hung it on the board. Now, I can x the date, write the students' birthday's in, and at the end of the month, Just rip the month off and it's all ready for me. I'm going to make writing the date on the board a standard.
I like the border. Keep them on the cracks.

Thank you! It’s 30in by 30feet! It’s actually just package paper from Scotch, so cheap and you get a ton of it!

I suggest checking out Early EdVentures classroom setup video. She used an extra line of scotch tape to add a little extra visual weight to her boarders. I think it could be what you are saying is missing. Keep up the good work.

Is it just me? Or does anyone else do their curriculum work BEFORE their classroom setup ? Maybe because I’ve been teaching for 15 years, but I plan my entire first month of school before I even bother to set up my room.
I am starting a new job in a new grade in a new district this year. We have had quite a bit of curriculum training so far, but I haven't had a chance to meet with my team teachers yet. I'm apprehensive to begin planning anything until I do, bc I want to get an idea of how they all operate. What kinds of things do you have planned out already?
@@jackiesmith3092 I review my plans from the previous year and make a checklist of absolute “essential” activities that need to be covered in the first month (All About Me, team building games, read alouds, initial assessments, math games they know from the previous grade). Then I look at my new daily schedule and arrange the activities accordingly. I don’t mess with bulletin board paper. I just put a fun border around the cork board and call it a day. Once it’s filled with student work and anchor charts, you can’t tell anyway.
@@jackiesmith3092 Then I make a list of all the special class-specific celebrations that need to happen during the year (pajama day, parent arts and crafts days before vacations) Then I make a list of all the jobs I want my room parents to do (Scholastic book orders, party planning, etc). When this is done, I go into school and use the copy machine while all my colleagues are preoccupied with their classroom setups 😂😂. *** I don’t change furniture setup. I usually have 18 students, so I just do the desks in three sets of 6.
My biggest question is...who took the kidney table 😂
