Picked my 08 expedition cheap from a deer hit, had 145,000, still ran good. Paid to preemptively replace the timing, oil pump, roller followers, spark plugs and coils. Now good for another 200,000. Engines will last if taken care of.
I had a Honda cb 350 K 1972 and was learning to ride it the first summer my son & i got it roadworthy and a guy in a box truck with a stop sign, My cross street did not have a stop sign and he came within 3 inches of the side of my bike before stopping and I took it back to my sons and never rode again. I had a regular license and a permit which allowed me to ride but I was done after that close call. Greg
In Chicago if you’re driving towards the left turn lane and light is red, the ones turning left will hit head on because they all turn like what happened to you
Hey Randy great to see you back buddy! I am with you, I lived through the bike experience when I was younger! Rode from Dallas Fort Worth Texas to Salem Oregon. A highlight in my life. Camped out and stayed in motels a little bit not much. Gorgeous ride. Through Carmel California. Wine country. Redwoods. Oregon coast. Then Rode full-time no car for about a year in Oregon. I feel fortunate I had no accidents through that whole experience. Although I did go down in some gravel on a bike years before and it cured me for quite a long time.
As a Ford truck guy I tend to stay away from the 3v I had one that was fine for 260k then I had another that was junk! I have a 03 4.6 f150 now best truck I ever owned
New Ford 5.4 3v spark plugs have that breaking off issue fixed. And the cam phasers issue has been fixed with the new phasers or my buying and installing the 20.00 phaser lockouts. Going strong at 260k miles.
I do believe another issue the 3 valve had a lifter for the third valve on cylinder 3 that would come apart ( thus destroying the engine ) , don't remember if ford fixed that issue or not .
My wife’s old FX35 had adaptive cruise. I remember radar detectors from other cars would cause phantom braking on the highway since it was radar-based. Infiniti had tons of firsts and innovations (like the push button start) for mainstream cars.
Randy, Please NEVER stop saying Ladies and Gentlemen. Its a nice saying. The garbage the media is coming up with no a days is garbage itself if you ask me.
I have to say I been watching a lot of your videos lately and I enjoy the content. I learned a lot of stuff just from watching 👀. Keep up the awesome job 👏 👍. I like it 😅🤣😂
Randy,, did you notice that the infiniti speedo goes to 160 mph.. my Maxima is the same motor.. QUICK HIGH OUTPUTS.. awesome motors.. same as in 350Nissan ZX..
Sister has an M35x with over 300k on it. Has the same howling power steering system that no one can fix after complete pump and rack replacement. Apparently a common issue on these at high mileage. The VQ / FM is a solid platform
The spark plug breaking off in the head happened with the 2 piece spark plugs. I would avoid getting the 2 piece, just get a whole 1 piece and you're golden. They would only break if you didn't take them out correctly. Just warm it up for a bit, turn it off and get a special tool to get them out. Cam phaser issue wasn't always a common issue on a lot of them from what I heard. They had a few 3v with timing chain issues but it wasn't common. You have looked at that one before because I remember the cats were gone, they are great engines in my opinion if they are cared for... A lot of people who owned them just destroyed them and never took care of them. Mines is still going strong at almost 205k!
they have thin/small oil gallery's feeding the timing chains and they build up sludge, if you run syntactic oil or flush and change your oil more than recommended they run for years , you yanks tend to think oil lasts for decades not months also the coils are a wear item and tend to fail
Everybody I've known with those had the cam phaser issue, a d the timing chain issues, and thr spark plug issues. Doesn't matter on what plugs you use when you only have 2 threads to hold them. These engines also had insufficient oil valleys also. A huge POS engine. They don't sell for big money at any auctions around me dealers know to stay away from them also.
@@letaloudone Like @AI T mentioned, change you're oil frequently and they last. A lot of owners bash on them and hardly treat them right. I have a 06 Expedition 3v, literally the same thing almost as a F150 except a SUV version and a few other things. Never left me stranded, only issue was my starter flywheel few years back which wasn't major, have 203k on the clock. Just maintain them and you're good. It does matter also about the 1 piece spark plugs as the 2 piece was literally the main reason why it broke. Do it correctly and you're golden as mentioned before.
Agreed. Ford replaced the 2 piece design with single piece spark plugs around 2008. By now I don't think anyone is running 2 pc spark plugs unless they got old stock units. About the timing chain issues: it affected camshaft phasers, VCT solenoids and chain tensioners and guides. And the root cause is the same: oil starvation caused by incorrect oil grade and/or extended periods between oil changes. My dad's truck (a 2010 with the 4.6 3V) had the VCT solenoids gone at 130K. Thankfully those were easy to replace and we got the job done on the driveway. Also, this truck being 18 years I suspect it's already got the engine rebuilt, bullet proofed or it's just been a good one that was well cared for with 3500 mile old changes and OEM filters until someone cut the cats off. My uncle had an 06, 1 owner truck which he sold last with 180K miles. It never had a major issue but he was religious with maintenance.
not always the case but most of them should be treated well. he got a malibu a while back with 300K miles & that was trashed. this infiniti is still good for It's age & condition
@@billyduffany3387 my uncle got an 06 Super Crew 4WD new and put 180K miles over 15 years. The truck was used as a truck and family vehicle. It paid for itself, never had any major issues with it and the engine was as quiet as it could be. But he maintained it religiously with synthetic oil and OEM oil filters. Unfortunately he had to sell the truck last year due to health issues. Ironically his F150 outlasted my aunt's ride: an 07 M35x like the one in the video. Very cool car but at age 13 it started to get expensive. AC compressor and steering pump were expensive and deemed not worthy for a car approaching 200K miles. She traded it in for a 21' Rav4. Someone stole that truck last year when offered my uncle $8500 for it.

3v's are not that bad, you just need to give them more love than other trucks, like new spark plugs, coils and change the oil/filter more than twice a year
I bet that R1 will sell for really cheap considering the high mileage. But that mileage is nothing on a Japanese bike, they can last just as long as cars!

Glad your done with the motorcycle. To many crazy drivers out there buddy

My 03 Mercedes E500 station wagon had adaptive cruise control!

yeah man I would avoid the 5.4 triton like the plauge as you'd say. Great video!
My wife’s old FX35 had adaptive cruise. I remember radar detectors from other cars would cause phantom braking on the highway since it was radar-based. Infiniti had tons of firsts and innovations (like the push button start) for mainstream cars.
Radar detectors wouldn't have effected the adaptive cruise. They only detect radar signals, they do not broadcast anything out.

The 3 valve 5.4 is good if you care for it properly. And depending on the year of it. Early 08 on it was back to a new 1 piece spark plug.

Spark plugs can be easily removed if you do it the right way. If the engine was ever neglected It will have cam phaser problems…….
3V F150s are not bad randy. Everyone that owns them beats the living shit out of them and does not maintain it. It’s a great motor
I heard the same thing, if you change the oil and maintain them they last along time. I have a 5.4 2 valve and never ever had a problem with it.
