my first car was a short lived prelude si aws, wish i could have had it longer but it had over 500k miles and still ran great. i couldnt say no to a deal selling it for 5x what i had paid after swapping a junkyard trans into it, but ill forever stick with hondas thanks to the great experience i have had working on them, starting with that prelude.
That generation of Honda is the pinnacle. I have a few 88-89 Accords and a 1990 Legend, and they are amazing to drive, reliable as hell, and when something does go wrong its usually nothing serious, and can be fixed easily. Even 34 years later, the Accords are more reliable than brand new cars (on average, my co-workers with brand new cars were going to the dealer for warrantee work once a year, while my Accord has gone strong for 12 years with nothing but balljoints, brakes and oil changes - i live in Montreal, balljoints come here to die. Cali cars have OEM balljoints, still.)
@@Ayeobe oh i 100% agree those early hondas are seriously meant to last. i feel your pain with the rot tho im in ohio where you get 4 seasons a day.lol ive owned a handful of much older hondas like a 74 accord and some of the little old 70s civics and they are just unkillable. up until the early 2000s honda made some of the most reliable cars then they went to crap fast. ive owned alot of newer ones that have been money pits, so i have stuck with my 04 tsx for the comfort and more or less reliability and power. after undoing alot of the rigging by previous owners its still been super solid up to 300k! of course it takes a good owner and maintenance to get that far with anything though. but the old 70s and 80s cars were the best of the bunch for sure!
The "power steering" claim on the wheel reminds me of old motels that exclaim "color tv" and "air conditioning". A relic of the past that we all take for granted.
Hmmm. Mazdaspeed 3 is actually a very fun car. 260hp and a good manual gearbox. 1200$ is a good price for the engine over here I europe. but as you said. It’s a gamble and it’s probably been driven hard and put away wet.
The Mazda reminds me of my middle school carnival. They bought a rear ended like 90’s Avalon from a junk yard for $500 and let kids swing a sledge hammer at it twice for $5 and you could bring your own spray paint and for $3 let you spray paint it for a whole minute. They used the money and put it towards a fund raiser for the school! It was so much fun. I remember I spent $20 on it and made it where the trunk wouldn’t open. Good times. I really need that stress reliever again!
I would think that old honda prelude would be a cool vehicle just to hear running and since it's near and dear to ur heart it would be cool to hear it.
I had a 1981 Honda Civic CVCC 1.3 liter, 5 speed manual, 55 hp. Always started and drove through everything including heavy snow while other vehicles were stuck.
That vandalism car is a speed3! Way worth it to strip the outside and repaint it, I LOVE those cars I could tell instantly by the raised wing on the hatch and the wheels, only on the speed series
I watched the rest about the fire, the 2.3 turbo drivetrain is probably why they want some money out of it if it’s in good condition you can sell the engine alone for 2500 but it would be quite the project that’s for sure
@@IFIXATVS I bought the 07’ brand new. LOVED that car, by far my favorite body style of the 2. Did yours have the turbo housing recall? It's my first Japanese made car and it has never let me down. I'm happy.

I’m 24 and selling it is still a big regret. Glad to see you have a fondness for them too
Buy the Honda, long term project for you and Nick to work on. Might even be his first car, what it is now to a very usable vehicle. A little bit of time each month, no rush finish. He would gain a TON of knowledge as to what makes car work....AND, he can say "It is my car, and I got it to where it is now!" (With a little help from Randy, of course!)
I thought Sumpter Settlers might be a high school mascot but nothing. There is a Sumpter OK but it's little more than a wide spot in the road a ways north of OKC. Other larger Sumpters are in Michigan and Oregon. I considered a vandalized car a couple years ago. There was a van down in NC near where TK was, needed windows, tires and had some spray paint. But it was low miles and ran and drove. Just was too far away, I'd have to drive down and go back and forth getting new tires and bring glass with me. I would have had a glass company do the windshield, the rest I could do myself. With what vans and trucks sell for now, I probably should have done it, I would have easily doubled my money
You’re much better off paying 80 bucks for that ‘85 Prelude than spending a dime on the ol’ C-wagon. I worked in a Sears auto center when I was in college in the 90’s, and I have seen at least two old pickups painted with house paint and a brush. The only difference is those paint jobs were completely intentional.
That prelude would be AMAZING to see you get for the channel, and for the pure nostalgia, being a car you used to have in your past. Ultimately I leave it up to you but I for one would LOVE to see you get it and see if you can work your magic to make it run
The Prelude brings back so many memories. My friend's family next door bought a brand new red one in 1985. Ot was such a great car! It was night and day compared to what yiu could get from Detroit back then and this was in a Detroit suburb. I am so nostalgic for 80's Hondas right now. Preludes, Accords, Civics and especially the CRX!
Randy you need to bring this cool Honda Prelude to the channel man, i love these Hondas they are so easy to drive and smooth and wow these are so 80s man Pop up lights man c'mon you can get these now a days
The Honda Prelude is a good start for 80 buck....what more could you ask for...a truly amazing car...the Landies could also be another adventure...if you have time & $$$ to spend....Great walkabout....greeting from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia....
That Honda would be a fun project to do some heavy modifications to. I know I’m going to sound crazy but I would do some cutting and fabricating to convert it to RWD and swap in a healthy American V8 with a 5 or 6 spd manual transmission, while keeping the exterior looking totally stock with the only telltale signs that something is amiss being wider stock looking rear wheels and tires and a nice quiet dual exhaust.
I love those old chevy's! definitely get the chevy those things are super reliable and if it goes cheap its a score, also that old honda while not being perfect is pretty good for its age and cheap
I like seeing these older unique vehicles! Once common but not seen anymore, just like that Citation you showed months ago. Brings back memories of my late childhood and also when I started driving and would go looking for vehicles I could afford at the time.
Hi from uk randy 👋👍 great little prelude 👌 oh the old days and cvcc I only watched edd china mike brewer on old wheeler dealers on tv do a cvcc the other day and was great car they finished it in a wrap that was reflective like the liver reflective tape on a work bollard for highways but looked amazing👌 and love to see green chevvy on the channel💪👍 and that green mazda 😂😂😂😂😂 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon must jet👍👋👋

I had a prelude and I did indeed love that car (it was a silver version of the one a couple years earlier than this). I think like you said it would be good content - that would be the main impetus behind purchasing the vehicle - more than to sell it, just to showcase it. Not quite as dramatic of course as the Swamp Vette but another kind of interesting, potentially fun project to at least maybe get running and then cut the roof off of it and drive it like a go cart or something before scrapping :-)
The Prelude looks good. Like you said , it could make a nice project. It was probably sitting on someone's property for quite a while. The fact that it cranks means it still has some life in it.
