10:10 Randy.... THIS is a good example of why I like you and your content SO much. You confront matters of ethics that most people don't; certainly famous RUclipsrs and what have you. THAT is part of why it was sort of an out-of-body experience to meet you (along with Michael) several weeks ago. THIS is an example of why you have one of the best channels on RUclips. End of story. Hope to meet you again someday, buddy!
Depends on the insurance company. The whole car is insured not the accessories. I agree with the battery but accessories and aftermarket parts needs to be replaced with stock before surrendering the unit.
I spoke to my insurance company a couple weeks ago and they said even the accessories are covered as long as you have receipts. Only thing that's not is modifications like rims, suspension which can make the whole car not covered unless they are professionally installed.
Depends on the company. For my insurance, its not covered. The unit is valued and estimated as stock. If it got totaled with accessories, thats just gravy for them.
Most insurance companies want you to declare aftermarket parts and accessories and may not cover them if they were not disclosed. So you really need to read and understand your policy and its limits before you choose to remove aftermarket parts and reinstall the OEM's.
Had an 83 Chevy truck square body at auction today , truck ran before auction , but , someone sabotaged it to where it wouldn't start to make it to the auction block .
When my truck got wreaked they didn't want to cover my aftermarket wheels and tires so I put the original wheels back on it.the insurance company didn't pay for the wheels I did so they were mine.
No way on the Vette Randy. Here's a story for ya my buddy got rear ended in his truck he just put on new tires, battery, brakes and new car seat for his infant son. The insurance paid him for the truck then gave him a separate check for all the work he previously did! I had never heard of that Randy
When my own Aveo got totaled, I left the Maxx-86 I paid $119 for in 2019 in it for the next person; it was listed at Copart as a Run and Drive (because after the accident, I drove it work, drove it back home, and then drove it to the body shop where it was totaled!)
When my fathers car was wrecked 2 years ago we took out the amps and subs in the back and then replaced the aftermarket radio with the stock one. We also went and had the tires swapped out for different ones since the ones on the car were still being payed off at a tire shop. We didn't take anything else as we had no right to anything else except what wasn't going to be covered in insurance.
Yes 100% agree about the insurance. Nobody wants to pay high insurance prices but we pay them to be insured. If you accept the insurance company's check then you've accepted the payout. If you don't agree with the payout, then arbitrate it or get an atty to help settle the case. Once you cash the check the car belongs to the insurance company and everything in the car stays.
holy crap is that you Obama? What other socialist garbage you know? WHen the state FORCES you to buy insurance then insurance companies can dictate any price. First come with a real competition between companies then complain people "rip off" the poor tax funded insurance company.
I wouldn’t mess with that yellow vett, let it be the other guys headache. I just see no margin for profit at 5,800 not to mention that’s not including sales fees. OTD probably looking over 65
I’ve long suspected that people are sabotaging cars pre-auction. Like you said, if the saboteur doesn’t win the car, he just cost the new owner thousands….
@@thomasfletcher4765 no, it’s the low ballers on marketplace who never buy anything at auctions who do it… to try and get it as cheap as possible cus they’re broke lmao
In my opinion you should be able to take anything off the car along as it keep the car a car. If you have nice wheels you put on then you should be able to take it back as long as you put the factory wheels back onto it.
Anybody could go in there will some dollar store snips and cut multiple hundred dollar harnesses in 6 seconds, Co part doesn't lose a dollar on any of those junkers, it's like a casino, they do volume and never lose in the long or short run
As for aftermarket accessories, it depends on IF they are covered by the policy or not. Generally, these days "personal choice" items (insurance terminology!) are not covered unless they are included in the policy. I added several items to my 16 Mustang GT before it was totaled. Insurance would only pay for Ford accessories, not anything else. But I could have removed them if I put a stock part back on if applicable. But a car must have a battery to run, so it needs to have one when it is turned into insurance.
Easiest Way to keep a car from starting Remove the Ecu Fuse! It'll crank but never turn over! How we use to keep our Hondas & Acura's from being stolen in the late 90's early 2000's in Jersey
Taking out battery also clears the engine codes. Some codes won't come back until car is driven, so you won't see any codes even if you jump start it. Battery is cheap and quick to replace. It is the radio and speakers that people take out, that I don't like. It takes hours to replace that.
Ya know, if someone is going to be shady enough to sabotage a vehicle for their own gain, they're not going to care if someone else wins it and has to spend added cash to fix it. I just had to shell out over $300 bucks for stolen parts on my last auction buy. It's the game you play, but it's still extremely frustrating.
I agree with you to a point on the battery, speakers, radios. For example I love putting aftermarket radios in my cars and show a serious investment. There is no way in hell I'm leaving my Alpine stereo or Sundown subwoofer in my car if I get in a wreck. Now I'll (haphazardly) through some factory stuff I get from the junkyard in but you have every right to your aftermarket stuff. And no you're right. I paid 5500 for my 92 Corvette and it has a clean title and is in pretty good shape.
Yeah man grab that chevy pickup 👌 I think it would clean up nicely and you can get everything from LKQ and macco paint job and have a solid work truck they run forever
It's not ripping off insurance if you just bought a battery and your to cheap to buy a battery for a auction vehicle that is damaged you have a jump pack to check em plus those battery would be dead anyway and might be too old when you buy it your going to have to put one in anyway
The only battery I would take would be the horrible mistake I made of buying a optima battery for over $400 literally the most expensive thing on my truck (good battery tho) 😅 but if it was a regular old battery just leave it
Just got my 91 corvette out of the paint shop today had light body damage with a bunch of rock chips, peeling paint, and a cracked rear bumper. For a full paint job and all the body work it cost me 3500 at MAACO. The fiberglass painting and work is way more expensive than most cars because you’re not supposed to use a chemical stripper on the body. Some of the people. Steal and take out the original parts. Ad sell it later on eBay. Such as keys and some worth of money parts. Agree with totally Randy 100%
I’ve taken wheels and tires off of one of my vehicles that I owned when it got totaled out from getting hit. I asked my insurance agent before hand though and they said I was fine to take them off as long as it’s still able to be towed.
Hey Randy, that Toyota Camry had a basic metal key .. it needs a transponder or chipped key to allow it to start.. that's why it was just cranking .. it would most likely run with a programmed key
Yellow Corvette has an LT-1 engine. More than likely, the water pump failed and splooged all over the opti-spark ignition which is right underneath it and then you have no spark and thus no starting. White Chevy truck could very well be a repo. People take out title loans at assinine interest rates and miss one payment and their vehicle is gone. So that's how I can really see it being a repo. Repo man probably busted the column because there were no keys provided to the lender. Your upper echelon repo people will have a key made from the VIN for such occasions. But your shady ones that just want to get the job done don't GAF.
The car came with a battery it should be given back with one when the insurance pays you the entire carrrr becomes theirs u can not take anything from the car at this point because it's no longer your car
I always thought that if you restored the parts (Shocks, radio, lift kits, etc.) you can take them. Battery, exhaust parts, etc. should be staying with the car unless you have factory parts. Insurance companies usually DO NOT cover aftermarket parts UNLESS you purchase riders.
As far as the battery, or any other accessory for that matter. The owner, IF anything on their wrecked vehicle is recently purchased/installed, they SHOULD be able to provide a receipt for said item (s) as part of their claim thereby having it covered. Otherwise, Randy's right, once you take a check from an insurance company to dispose of a wrecked vehicle, and unless you've made prior arrangements w/ the adjuster, agent to retrieve personal/accessory items prior to disposition, you at that time forfeit all claim to that vehicle, unfortunately, including attachments, unless one is just Shady!! 🤔 And THAT, is merely my opinion on the matter.
If what one removes was an add-on paid for and even installed by the owner, seems like that should be acceptable; however, if, for example the owner removes an after market sound system, he/she should replace it with the original sound system. I've never done that, but I always keep the original equipment unless it does not function. To my knowledge, the insurance company does not reimburse for loss incurred with a vehicle upgrade.

If it’s me l will let it go The car worth $3500 in Copart
Nailed the value of that vette if that. $2500 would be my top price for damaged c4 Now as far as the insurance goes I think that depends. If they are insuring a stock car I think it’s ok to remove any aftermarket parts you added If it’s a agreed value car then you are stealing as they agreed with you on value if they pay you you got your money
When the car is in an accident and the insurance adjuster comes to look at it, they catalog everything on the car as well as take pictures. If the parts are on the car when the check is cut, you can get charged with fraud for taking parts off of it. Because that car now belongs to the insurance company since they paid it off.
Our Honda pilot wasn't totaled by our insurance, the body shop totaled it , i don't think they wanted to do the work . I didn't take anything from it but, i assumed it was going to a junk yard not an auction ..
Did somebody really sabotage the car? Or maybe they tried to start it like you did and it wouldn’t start. Then they simply left the key on when the battery died? Plus the car looks like it’s been sitting for a while, who knows how good the fuel is? The truck looks like a typical contractors truck, it looks like they tried to fix the column and gave up.
Unfortunately given the cost of paint and body work, plus the extra expense of the weather seals that’s all the money for that poor C4. Looks like the drivers door panel is damaged and the seats have been reupholstered…keep looking Randy. Check the fuel pump relay or fuse and check the coil wire to the Opti Spark unit. Randy you are 100% correct about what you said re not removing things from cars to “screw” the insurance companies.
battery is one thing after market parts and rims sound systems can be removed as insurance company never knew car had them but put back all the stock parts
When my Territory was wrecked, the insurance value was for the entire (all accessories included) and it was a sad loss. Unfortunately the whole process is very strenuous.
Hey randy I know my comment is not relevant to this video I can't believe the price of a new hummer EV I live in new York state and the price was $293,000 at a dealership in buffalo NY and thank you for your channel
$4500 tops on the Vette if it runs. I'm thinking maybe a fuse may have been pulled. I'm a Vette guy all day long but $4500 would be all I would've paid for it. It'll make a great vette for a 17 yr old.
The Corvette would not be worth it for you since you will just put it back into the auction. You will lose money. If it has a clean title and you sold it on eBay or craigslist then maybe. The person biding against you probably left the key on and popped a fuse out or disconnect the coil. lol I disagree with you about the taking a part from a car.

It has been relisted with a future sale date.
battery is one thing after market parts and rims sound systems can be removed as insurance company never knew car had them but put back all the stock parts
It's not fiberglass. It's SMC compound. Uses strands of glass. I can fix the bodywork and paint for less than 500
Your spot on with the Vette, sounds like it wasn't firing
For sure. Had fuel, but no spark.
Good oil pressure on the old Chevy truck
Just carry a jump battery pack. Only cost $80!
The market is crazy these days for C4's. I have seen similar example go for super high prices, you should consider it.
I saw that! Heck no lol that is way too expensive.
I have one more sneaky bid on it Santas workshop is good with fibreglass finish some news good at that as well don’t you
Just let the vette go 5800 is too much just putting that out there love the channel man
Doesn't look like that camry had the proper key to start the car. It wasn't a chipped key.
