  • Here's a little preview of some of the games featured on the iCade 60-in-1 arcade board so you can get a little idea of what to expect from the iCade. I will upload a full review of the board at a later date.
    Everything you see here is direct capture from the iCade. Audio comes from the 3.5mm jack(line level) and video comes from the VGA output converted to S-Video using an external VGA to Composite/S-Video converter.

    I kept hearing the i-cade 60 music when I kept playing Pac-Man (2), Ms. Pac-Man (2) and Jr. Pac-Man (2). The (2) means that they go fast. Only at a game store in the Reno mall. One game store has an extra room (it's not the one close to a couple of restrooms) with arcade games. After you insert 25 to 50¢, you can pick (especially on Pacman) any game you want to play and then you start hearing this music.

    Just got mine and I'm pretty happy so far. It wasn't very expensive, and you can "disable" any of the games that really bother you. So, think of it as a pretty good 40(ish) in 1 that's fairly cheap. ;-)

    If you want to have two sets of controls for 2-player simultaneous games and a single trackball both players can use, you can wire up each player's individual controls, then when you install your trackball, link the Player 1 and Player 2 controls together on the 6-pin connectors. Be sure you do not link VCC and Ground. Only have one of the headers providing power to the trackball.
    With this, though, you can control both players at once in a 2-player cooperative game.

    @MrGuitarguy123 - It depends on whether you can handle this board's imperfections. If you don't mind the imperfections and just want to play the games featured on the iCade 60-in-1 on an actual arcade cabinet, then by all means, buy it. If, however, you must play the games with absolutely no imperfections, don't buy this as it will make you angry with its downsampled audio, distorted sound in certain games, graphical imperfections, etc.

    • @TortureBot
      @TortureBot Год назад +1

      Wow! These things can be had for $35-40 now! I have one in a Donkey Kong cabinet as I wait to recap and repair the original PCB. Almost gave the wife a heart attack the other night as I first fired it up at 2AM. The freaking audio was set to a very high level.
      The thing is, the manual says to set the test jumper on the 60-in-1 PCB to enter that mode, which presents you with basically a monitor pattern screen to adjust the display. It then prompts onscreen for the pressing of "1P-S2". (Player 1 Button 2) to advance to the following setup screens.
      Well, the manual states to use the Test Switch (as in the Test Switch at the front of the cabinet) to advance the Test menu screens. My original DK has only 1 button besides the Player 1 & 2 Start buttons. So I had to rig a wire from the JAMMA harness just to advance through the Test menu screens. The volume control screen is like the next to the last screen, past the DIP settings for ALL 60 games!
      After setting the volume to about 1/2 of what it initially was, I was satisfied. Then, after picking a game later, I found out this Master volume control does not seem to affect the BLARING volume on each individual game, lol. Now I am rigging up a set of volume control buttons to connect to the + & - volume wires on the JAMMA harness.

    Can you use a PC monitor and put it on its side for the 60 in 1. Is there a setting that would allow me to flip the screen or do I need to buy a actual arcade screen. I'm wondering because a new arcade LCD screen costs about $100 more than a 19" PC monitor.Thanks.

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921  10 лет назад

      I use a 19" ViewSonic CRT computer monitor turned on its side on my 60-in-1. Any VGA monitor turned on its side will work.
      If I remember correctly, there is a DIP switch that can be used to flip the video depending on how you turn your monitor. If you use your monitor in one direction, but the video is flipped, you should be able to fix that by means of a DIP switch.

    • @truhunk1
      @truhunk1 10 лет назад

      Ace9921 OK, so what you are saying is that all you need to make one of these is the 60 in 1 board, a power supply, and any old computer monitor, that's it ?

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921  10 лет назад

      Claude Desaulniers
      That's right, though for the monitor, you can make use of pretty much ANY VGA monitor capable of accepting a 640x480 signal (which is pretty much every VGA monitor in existence, be it CRT or LCD).
      A note on ATX power supplies: be sure to bridge the Sense pin (green wire) to Ground (black wire). If your power supply has a hard switch on it over the AC 120V input, you could simply use that switch to turn the power supply on and off, otherwise, you would have to splice a switch into the Sense pin and a Ground wire.

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921  10 лет назад

      There is a high-score save feature on the iCade 60-in-1, but it's weird in that it will only save the top score and it will not save your name. So, if you beat the newly-saved high score, the board will overwrite the old score and not store your name. It's dumb, I know.
      As for powering the board, it should run fine in any old arcade machine provided it uses a JAMMA harness. You could even use a PC power supply if you want, be it AT or ATX.

    This iCade and the iCade for the iPad are completely unrelated. The iCade you see here is an arcade board meant to be placed in an arcade cabinet while the iCade for the iPad is merely an arcade controller in which you stick your iPad into. So while there is an iCade for the iPad, it's not the same thing as the 60-in-1 iCade arcade board.

    Shame because Gyruss has good music.

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921  3 года назад

      It was likely done as a means to save on having to add an analog audio amplifier to the board, in other words, set the volume of the emulator as high as possible without really paying attention to how mangled the sound gets in some games. It's a shame, really, as this board is fairly decent otherwise, video and audio inaccuracies aside.

    • @thatweirdnerdinthecomments4664
      @thatweirdnerdinthecomments4664 3 года назад

      Ace9921 that explanation seems plausible to be honest. As someone who is considering picking one up for a simple project, I think it will do for a beginners' board. It's not entirely accurate, but I really don't play too much of the messed up games so all things considered I don't think I will be too bothered by it. However, I do see how certain people (mainly purists or fans of some of the distorted games) might get put off by the boards.
      I have also heard that the earlier 48 in 1 and 39 in 1 game boards may have ran some of these games better, but I cannot verify this as these two boards are extremely hard to find as standalone pcbs and videos on these boards are scarce (even more so on the 39 in 1) compared to some of the 60 in 1. However, I thought it was interesting to note.

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921  4 года назад +1

      The black border is normal. It's to do with the games' native resolution not filling the entirety of the iCade 60-in-1's resolution (although I'm unsure of the iCade 60-in-1's native resolution). Said games would need a bilinear filter or something similar to prevent unevenly-sized pixels if scaled to fill the iCade 60-in-1's resolution, so instead, the games are presented with a slight border that is 1:1 to their original resolution at 15KHz or exactly double their resolution at 31KHz over VGA.

    @killernat - Personally, I find the worst game on the PCB is 1943. The distortion is just so bad you're better off playing the game with no sound. Gyruss is bad too, but I find the distortion in Gyruss more tolerable. I'm sure some people will think I'm insane, but there are some games where I don't mind the distortion and inaccuracies. That doesn't mean I'll just settle with the iCade board. I'm still on the lookout for the original boards of my favorite games on the iCade.

    I thought the games with the (2) after was supposed to be with the Speed hack? Ms. Pac Man, Galaga etc. ... I've played 3 separate cabinets running this board and the (2) game is just the same game with 1 life, or 5 lives, or something. Is that something the operator should set up? Annoying. There are 2 of these machines at my work. I still play a game or two every day but yeah, the high score save is atrocious, I can't even remember which high scores I set myself now.

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921  10 лет назад +1

      You need to configure the games with (2) after the title to be speedup hacks. By default, they are exactly the same as the others without (2) after the title.

    Galaxian Sounds Weird As Hel

    • @ParkBarrington360
      @ParkBarrington360 Год назад

      The Galaxian rom on this is using a pitch shifted version of the sounds you hear on Bandai’s PAC-MAN plug and play (the one shaped like him)

    • @Kobun42
      @Kobun42 7 месяцев назад

      These boards were manufactured far before that plug and play existed... probably around ~2006 or so but earlier boards (i.e. 3 in 1 and 4 in 1) date as far back as ~2002.
      By the way, on earlier boards like the 39 in 1, Galaxian's sound is much better. It's still not 100% accurate but the pitch is much easier on the ears there than it is on the 60 in 1 and closer to the original version.

    The Sounds On Galaxian Are TERRIBLE

    • @Ace9921
      @Ace9921  6 лет назад +1

      Tell me about it. Everything is completely off-pitch, none of the analog filtering is implemented and the shot sound is dead silent. In fact, I think older 48-in-1 iCades, which use the same base hardware, actually have the shot sound. I don't have one, so I can't say for sure, but if it's actually the case, that is just completely ass-backwards.

      Literally absolutely nobody cares. Nothing is being done about them either.
      Namco isn't going to murder anyone for arcade Pac-Man bootlegging in this day and age, altho they were definitely fighting against it in the late 90s and very early 2000's, when arcade shit mattered more and wasn't totally dead yet.
      Nintendo doesn't care at all about their arcade properties, not like they could anyways since Donkey Kong was developed by a third-party company and DK Jr. and DK3 were built over top of that code.
      The rest is a mixed bag. Capcom doesn't care about 1942, Konami won't care about Frogger, some of these games are by companies no longer in existence, etc.
