    So would you choose this Mazda CX-30 over a Skoda Karoq? And should it have been called the Mazda CX-3-and-a-half?!
    Don't forget: stay home, stay safe! We recorded this long before travel restrictions were put in place, but we'll still be bringing you new videos (safely!) every week no matter what.

    I think Mazda are making some of the best car interiors of any manufacturer these days and they still have a sense of being an engineering led company willing to do their own thing and not just follow the crowd. I think this much nicer inside than premium alternatives and if judged against Audi, Mercedes, Volvo etc you get an awful lot for the money. I actually thought this handled really well.

    My wife drives 2016 CX 5 and we both love the car. Last week I was doing groceries and next to the supermarket is Mazda dealer and I said to my self, let's do test drive with CX 30. This was mistake. Ever since I can't stop thinking how good this car is! Left great impression, especially interior quality and ride quality including tire roar which is on very low level. This car feels very premium. Bose speakers are great too. So now I want to trade my wife's Mazda CX 5 for CX 30, I am working on it and it will be surprise for my wife :-)

      @Paul Attard Which plastic?? We got a car few weeks ago and we are more than happy. Interior has very premium feel and very little plastic. I am driving Mercedes E300d 2019 and Mazda CX 30 is very close to premium feel of the interior as in the E Class.. And for the record speakers in my wife's Mazda are better than mine in Mercedes. Yes I could have pay from premium speakers in my car for 2200 euros extra cost, in Mazda they come with second trip level for 1200 euros and other extras included.

  • @rune20401
    @rune20401 3 года назад +20

    I think its a bit unfair to put the n/a engine as something negative. They are much more reliable than most turbocharged engines . Also when driving, you only need to plan the driving a bit more, when for example overtaking. Because of the linear character of n/a engines they tend to be smoother than turbos. Mazda do not like turbo engines because of the unreliable techology, and when you get pretty much the same mpg with the high compression engines as sky active are, we should be glad mazda sticks with n/a. I've tried this car, and i would gladly buy one once my 2018 A3 is sold. Enough said. 🙂

    • @inodesnet
      @inodesnet Год назад +1

      Completely agree. I think Euro emissions drive many manufacturers to head down the route of downsized turbos, simply to tick a few boxes. Sure they have low end torque, but the real cheat is that downsized turbos look really good on paper for fuel economy. This Skyactiv-X though attempts to do the same thing with a very, very lean fuel to air mix, which allows for a heavier foot with far less impact in real life than would be attained in a competitor turbo.
      Pity they didn't continue with the diesel. Mazda's diesel is the world's only low compression diesel by patent (side note: it was the only engine deemed not to have cheated in the wake of VW dieselgate after German and Japanese governments audited their car makers emission tests).
      The low compression of the Skyactiv-D makes them higher to rev than competitor that start at 16:1 (Mazda is 14:1). The high rpm also removes a lot of the agricultural element, making any VW Diesel you park next to a Mazda sadly sound like a tractor.
      Only catch with low compression diesel, is that it has to warm up with a noisy recirc. But once it is warm, it's smooth as silk.

    Bought the 2022 update CX-30, Sport Lux. They’ve improved the Skyactive X engine massively. More torque support lower down from the MHEV system, and more power. The 2022 update has 186ps (183hp). Actually, the Autogefuhl review of the CX-30 also recommends the G variant.
      I'd be nervous of buying the X engine as it is such new technology and it remains to be seen whether it could become problematic. What I don't understand is why there is a 150bhp version of the G engine in Europe but in the UK we either have to choose 122bhp for the G or buy the more expensive and unproven X variant!

      The CX-3 is still available in the US, but only the Sport trim line is available for 2020. On first glance the CX-3 and CX-30 look similar, but I test drove them back to back, and the difference is quite clear. The 3 is OK in the front, way too cramped in the back. Road noise is quite noticeable and the ride is fairly harsh. Comparatively, the CX-30 feels great in the front, very spacious, and downright luxurious. The back seat is not great, but much more comfortable than the 3. The ride is very smooth and quiet compared to the CX-3 or our old Honda Fit.
      Test driving them back to back, the CX-3 was not even on the list of contenders for our next car, and the CX-30 was a clear winner over other brands and models we were interested in. If we could afford a few more bucks the Volvo XC-40 might be a contender, but the Volvo starts a few thousand above the top of the line CX-30 here. We didn't even test it because we can't afford it.

    I would love to Mazda go to a rear wheel drive line up. I think it would really set them apart from all their competitors and would aim right at BMW and MB. They already have the know how with MX-5. Mazdas have the looks but fall short with their performance.

    Quoting the mpg for the poorer sky active G engine whilst leaning of the car being reviewed which has the way more economical and better performing Sky Active X engine which returns almost 50mpg. In my opinion that is biased reviewing! Trying to get people to buy a Skoda by the sound of it. Comparing both with petrol front wheel drive with the Sky ActiveX engine I would suggest people compare the figures for themselves first, such as mpg, 0-62 and emissions.

Also opting for a non-touchscreen is a mistake when the market is clearly moving to smartphone mirroring such as Apple CarPlay.

    How much knee room does Mr Karoq need? He always moans even when there is over 6 inches to spare. If your knees aren't touching the front seat then you have enough room! Ans also, he says ' now you've heard all about the Mazda CX-30', well no I haven't, what about the specs? I have no idea what they offer except about 4 things for the SE-l model.
