    As always it is a fair comparaison, thank you very much for that great work you do.
    From my point of view, a cable from the headset isn't an issue while I always use it in a chair but using a peripheric depending on a short life battery is a big one. Since MSFS2020, very high resolution is needed to appreciate what that sim can give so less resolution is also undesirable. With only a 100$ differences or so is not significant when you spent many thousands for a decent MSFS2020 system.
    So I found nothing in favor of this new headset for me. As a RTX3080 GPU and a i10900 CPU owner, I'll stay with my HPRG2V2 for sure.

    Hi Mark. Once again you set the high-water mark for these types of videos, thank you. As I research and learn, it's clear to me that having a VR headset paired with a strong computer, both of which have and utilize data port 1.4 is optimal. Getting a new laptop computer with the data port 1.4 and strong GPU/CPU is fairly easy. Do you know where I can find a resource that lists out which modern VR headsets primarily utilize data port 1.4? I think that's the way I want to go and then I can research whether or not the unit is comfortable for eyeglass wearers and don't cause scratching on the lenses and eyeglasses. Getting my standard size eyeglasses into my Quest 3 is not pleasant as it pinches the sides and becomes a resting place for the unit (even with a BoboVR strap). ~Maverick

    Biggest down side of the G2 vs any headset with pancake lenses is lense clarity not to be confused with resolution. Sure the G2 has great resolution but you can't look around in the headset without losing all clarity. The sweet spot is tiny. So a higher resolution sounds great on papers but in use you have to get the headset on absolutely perfectly and look straight forward all the time and move your neck, not your eyes to maintain a sharp image in the center. The pancake lenses like in the Pico 4 and Quest 3 completely eliminated that issues. Not to mention the clunky, top heavy G2 controls which for sims like VTOL VR are very cumbersome. I'm currently sellimg my G2 and getting the Q3.

      Speaking of OLED, the LCD technology is actually way above the OLED. Im a digital printing specialist and photograph, doing colour calibration and profiling (using expensive spectro-photometers) for over two decades, you have to give me to measure a single OLED display that has a delta E under 2, and a single OLED display that has mediocre (no not excellent like IPS LCDs) dynamic contrast.
      Almost every modern IPS LCD has delta E under 2 and many even under 1. OLEDs are not even close to LCD, but hey they are "bright like sun"...

      For movie watching (I ditched TV many years ago) I use DLP projector on 110" screen, and no its not due to much larger screen. OLED TVs have such a bad colours I cant stand them. Yes those colours are popping and that is to mask the bad natural colours, I have never seen a realistic skin tone, sky, grass or threes colour on OLED. Also the bad dynamic contrast disqualifies the OLED for movies, especially those with dark scenes.
      BTW, I used to fly sailing planes when I was seventeen, wanted to become fighter pilot. Did pass the medical exam, but it was still the time you had to have someone somewhere to get picked for the school in my country. I ended up as tank platoon commander and then quick reaction force plt. commander. I got lucky when there was an airshow, me still in uniform I met a guy from the pilot school (I was assigned to his room for the exam) who was already finished pilot at that time. My medical exam was still valid so we agreed that he will take me for a spin in a Mig few weeks later. It was a high altitude flight in Mig-23UB and we went up to 18k meters height...
      So I was extremely lucky, you already kinda see curvature of Earth at that height and it becomes darker.

    Good comparison, I just got my Pico 4 last week, I like it but for myself, the clarity of the G2v2 is still king due to a DP non compressed signal. As long as you get your eyes really close to the G2v2's lenses and get into that sweet spot, the FOV increases and the clarity gets even better, even looking around some with your eyes. You don't have to do this with the Pico 4, the pancake lenses sweet spot is huge! LOL

    I would like to add my 5cents here comming here as G2 vs Quest2 (which uses the same wifi/usb streaming tech) as why I think so many MSFS influencers are recomending pico4 and it is this:
    - pico4 with VR streaming from PC is acceptable and provides more clarity with pancake lenses for slow leasure civilian flights like MSFS
    - g2 with native displayPort however dominates for any fast dogfights in VR clarity
    The reason in my experience when I tried dogfights with quest2 wifi streaming was that the compression algorithm didn't know what to do with the image of other planes on a sky background and distorts it heavily. E.g. you are dogfighting often a black distorted smug in VR that is using compression from PC over usb/wifi. Ground clarity is fine because the compression is often just shifting slightly a very similar image in a direction in the algorithm, that is why I believe MSFS pilots are switching to PICO4 just for higher sweetspot.

    I bought the Pico 4 running on a 7900X3D and a 6800XT. I understand my GPU is severely underpowered for MSFS, however even after copying all your settings (and getting a grand total of 13fps, but godlike is enabled, using your resolution which you've given us in other videos and I have identical settings to what you have), my game simply does not look remotely as crisp as shown in your video. Using VD + Wi-Fi 6 so internet is not an issue. Do you have any idea what's going on?
    I actually feel in the cockpit and it's great but the effect is completely ruined when I glance outside the window and just see blurry objects.

    • @SimHangerFS
      @SimHangerFS  Год назад +1

      A display port can transfer a large amount of data at one time and do so quickly. HDMI & other methods are slower, this would mean the headset constantly waiting for data. By compressing the video data it can reduce the size of the ‘’packet’’ at the cost of some loss of visual fidelity. DLSS 3 is not available (functional) in VR at the moment. It can utilise DLSS 2 👍

    • @jackr.749
      @jackr.749 Год назад

      The problem I've noticed with DLSS in VR is it causes blur, our eyes are so close to the panels that for me I get a lot of blur, whereas on a monitor, my eyes are far enough away I don't see that blur and DLSS works well then. Could just be my eyes though.

    • @odourboy
      @odourboy Год назад +1

      The issue is doing the real-time compression of the video stream sucks up a lot of GPU resources. G2 doesn't have to do that, so all the GPUs power goes into rendering.

    Pico 4 by a long shot. I ditched my G2 after getting my Pico 4. The color, edge clarity, sharpness, FOV, and perfect binocular overlap as well as brighter panels at 2160 per eye just like the G2, Pico is a no brainer. After putting my G2 back on after using the Pico 4, I realized the G2 had to go. G2 WENT ON CRAIGLIST and still can't get rid of it. I did try the Quest Pro as well,it was sooooo clear. The lenses are amazing for sure, but man was it horribly uncomfortable even with a top strap. I returned it and got my Pico, and it was the best decision yet for DCS. Folks still pushing the G2 probably haven't looked through a Pico 4 in "God mode" yet. I have a reserved spot for Crystal when it comes out, my Pico will then become my family fun VR standalone game night headset.

      @Whirlynerds for pcv, I use a 4090 but plenty of users with 3080-3090's or 6800-6900xt's getting great results on RUclips. Like all higher end vr, you need a beefy system.

    By far the Reverb G2 is the higher quality in its price range. And the small sweet spot to me is not that noticeable. I do not see that as an issue ever in Flight Simulator or other VR games I play. Because your eyes focus is naturally clearer where you're looking.
    Do not notice blur where I am looking ever. The Pico 4 is a good for the price.
    But in the price range at this moment is the G2 Reverb by a large margin.

    Last weekend I built my new monster pc. i9-13900ks with 64 gig ddr5 and a Rtx 4090. A new 6e WiFi router completes the setup.
    I hope to receive a pico 4 tomorrow. I decided on the pico 4 because it can also be used standalone and does not require cables or external base stations.
    I looked at the varjo Aero but availability is poor which means service is poor. The cost is insane especially when adding the price of base stations and controllers.
    There are equally good headsets around the corner but since my experience with VR is non existent I decided that a pico 4 is a perfect starter. It gives me time to sit back for a while and see what happens.
