    Giving unsolicited advice
    Occupying several machines at once

    I stopped going to the gym and bought home equipment for myself last Christmas. My mortgage company switched and they told me I was overpaying and gave me about 3000 dollars back. I got a bench with about 200 lbs of freeweights, a rowing machine, a heavy bag and stand, and a speed bag. I am saving a lot of money in gas(petrol), gym membership, dealing with dirty members that don't clean up after themselves, and I don't have to deal with the gym thots trying to film themselves for dikdok trying to catch guys looking at them and calling them creeps. Thanks for sharing and I hope all is well! God Bless!

    I use one equipment at a time, e.g. using 15 lbs dumbbells then move upwards individually, not using two or three dumbbell sets at the same time. I see some guys with two sets of dumbbells with a curling bar next to their bench or by a machine and it just looks and is rude for hogging that many equipments.

    Some other rules:
    1. Don’t throw disposable towels on the floor.
    2. Don’t forget your bag, towel, water bottle etc. next to the equipment you just used. It makes others think the equipment is still in use.
    3. Don’t leave your towel on equipment to “stake your claim” on it while you use other equipment.
    4. Use moveable equipment such as barbells, dumbells and kettleballs in their proper place. My gym has a structure for using TVX exercise straps and some idiot left a 150 pound barbell right in tge middle of itmsking several stations unusable.

      I also have experienced this level of utter self-absorption. I need the entire Offensive Line from the Steelers to move that barbell or free weight back to where it belongs, or at least out of the way. The schmendrick who did that very likely knew exactly what he was doing.

    I only ask gentleman here to do one thing: please refrain from spraying fragrances such as Dior Sauvage in the gym. It is possible to use light amounts of fragrance before going to the gym; two sprays will suffice. Understandably, odor in the gym can get foul. But so does obnoxious fragrances that react strongly, especially at higher temperatures. I have gotten to know a gentleman in a community that I am in who busted a gym member for his Dior Sauvage, so I am compelled to post here.

    Thank you for this, and all your other excellent and thoughtful videos - much appreciated! As Health Club (Gym) owners for over 30 years, we can certainly endorse everything you mentioned, plus lots of other great suggestions in the comments! If it's not too presumptuous, may we expand on an issue you raised? Wiping down gear after use is fairly mandatory I would have thought in most decent clubs, and most clubs provide either wet-wipes or squirty bottles and paper towels or cloths. Sadly many folk still neglect to use them, and others end up simply pushing bumsweat around the seat with their handtowel. So we've elected to take a strong preventative approach and insist all members bring and lay a FULL SIZED towel on every piece of upholstery they sit on, lie on or lean against. Failure to do so usually invokes "The 100 push-up rule" :-D It just makes it easier to keep the gear hygienically clean, easier to monitor, nicer for other members - and warmer to lie on in the colder months, BTW. We'd love to see more of your thoughts and suggestions relating to Health Club and Gym etiquette, if you're considering additional content..? In particular I would love to see a session focussing on locker room rules. Things like not leaving major skid and splatter marks in the bowl - especially when a brush is provided, towelling off before traipsing from the shower to your locker, not shaving in the shower, not shaving naked in front of the mirrors with your willie resting on the countertop (don't ask me why we even feel compelled to mention this), not spreading your kit all over the benches, and even being careful to spray more deodorant on your body than all around rest of the room where others may be trying to breathe. Just for starters :-) I'm sure others can think of loads more things to add to the list. Anyway, many thanks again for your videos - very pertinent and highly enjoyable! - Tim & Anne, New Zealand [Locker room suggestions dedicated to our Club Manager, Zarea, and her long-suffering team of champions!]

    These are just rules you've made up for yourself. No gym I've ever been to actually enforces any etiquette rules they alow members to behave as they wish. For example, only yesterday an individual at my local gym spent upwards of 25 minutes sitting on a Smith Bench using his stupid phone. When I finally got sick of this I walked over and asked him had he finished yet? He looked confused and said he had 3 sets left, I replied this back to him he then responded saying he hadn't finished yet. This kind of behaviour in gyms can cause real problems.

    I go to a university gym in Helsinki, Finland, and I'm happy to report that all of the points you've listed are observed by most of the people. There are some grunts every once in a while or loud deadlifts (nobody really cares, btw) but most of the time it's a pleasant experience.

    Very good video. Anybody who is serious about fitness, bodybuilding, etc., will always remove the weights when he is finished. Building a muscular physique and being fit and jacked is about being passionate about bodybuilding, inspiring and helpful to others - not being loud, leaving the weights racked and acting like a douche bag.

    A real man, gentleman or even a gruff man, a *real man* is able to have self-control and control of the items he picks up, carries, holds, and puts down. I can't stand those narcissits who slam down their weights trying to impress people around by the noise and shock on the floor; Its not impressive, but rather tells badly about themselves, and is rude, and can cause incremental contributions to damage on the floor and building structure.

    Does a cultured gentleman do gym at all?

    • @timsimmons5953
      @timsimmons5953 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@sammajor2075 Well from what I see of gym it is not really the exercise environment a gentleman should be in. A sport perhaps, fencing for sure. Walking dogs daily, very good for a gentleman. A wonderful opportunity to get exercise and chat to pretty lady dog walkers.

    • @Saelestria-jd3uq
      @Saelestria-jd3uq 6 месяцев назад +1

      I look at it this way: going to the gym does not take away from being a cultured gentleman. A cultured gentleman knows that he respects and care for his health and his mind, and does not limit his options. A cultured gentleman expects himself to behave according to his environment, and act appropriately. A gym sets rules and principles for tenants to follow; a cultured gentleman does the same for himself. The gym and the cultured gentleman have much in common.
      Yet every cultured gentleman is different. Men reading this should not look at this conversation as establishing an absolute rule for everyone to follow. A cultured gentleman may also value health, solitude and meditation; exercising at home is his better option if that is the case.

    • @mtlicq
      @mtlicq 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@timsimmons5953 Why not? What's your definition of a gentleman?
      I consider any man that is honourable by having self-respect PLUS being considerate of others, a man who honours his word with integrity, who is compassionate and considerate (and personally I'd add - defuses stress/tension/embarrassments with non-offensive bit of humour or sense of humour.) Its not necessarily a spoiled rich kid or a slimy creep wearing a fancy 3 piece suit too snooty to do any manual work like lifting weights at a gym...

    • @grsimpson3957
      @grsimpson3957 6 месяцев назад +1

      Why wouldn't a gentleman have any strength training? You should be strong enough to carry another person, whether it be because you have to throw someone in a fight, or because you have to carry an injured person out of a dangerous area. With regards to sports like fencing, I fence competitively. I do sport foil and HEMA styles like longsword and rapier. Physical conditioning is a necessary part of that. You also have to keep in mind that the association of gentlemen with fencing comes from a time when fighting with a sword was rather common. Adding to the fact that a gentleman should be able to help others, you should do a sport like boxing, Judo, or wrestling, all of which requite immense amounts of physical conditioning. Don't let chivalry be an excuse to be weak.

  • @davidlewis2668
    @davidlewis2668 6 месяцев назад

    Some other items: Obey safety and usage regulations. Leave all equipment cleaner than you found it. Respect other people's equipment in a common area and don't leave your equipment laying around the area. Don't have a loud conversation with someone either at the gym or on the cell phone that would impact those around you. Give advice only if you know what you're talking about. Share a lap pool lane and don't pee in the damn pool!
