Not Tommy. He never beat anyone who was champ when he fought them. Tyson beat Bruno, Berbick, Bruno, Tucker and Pinklon Thomas. Morrison beat faded champs, prime contenders and journeymen
If Morrison would've fought Odum, Tucker, Hipp and Williams before Mercer he would've had the experience and confidence to take Mercer out or win an easy 12 round UD.
I agree with Mike Kemper... I think Tommy wasn't psychologically ready for Mercer (who, although he was a 'dirty' fighter had a head made of granite)... Not to mention that he didn't seem right that day, he ran out of steam so early on. Thanks.
@@MisterVolts He always had bad stamina throughout his career. After 4 or so rounds he was a visibly different fighter. Watch the Hipp, Puritty and Griffin fights they illustrate this
I love the Duke but he would've got beat by Mercer 9/10 times. Mercer had faster feet & punches than old Forman so that box & run strategy wouldn't work. Plus Mercer was a superior pure boxer than Morrison. & when you can't out box a guy, can't out punch a guy because his head is made of tank armor,, & can't match a guy's stamina how can you win exactly?
I think his fight with Lewis was a pretty good preview of what would have happened against Holyfield. As for Tyson, re-watch his Mercer fight--most likely that's what would have happened against Tyson.

If Tommy would have had world class coaching - someone like Cus - to teach him elite head movement, he could have become an all-time great. He had everything else (well, except for an insatiable sexual appetite that compromised his cardio his entire career).
