I can vouch for this. The amount of things done when you push them to overwork is less compared to the things they accomplish in regular settings. Sanity is insanely hard to recover without being hands on about it either you cheese it with just replacing the stressed-out pals with fresh pals, or manually putting stessed pals to a spa or sleep break, both options will just require you do more hands on work, leaving you not to do more exploration. I would also NOT SUGGEST the first option where you replace work pals with a new one when they get stressed, as most of the time the replacement will be underleveled, making your base vulnerable to raids. Raids, that ALSO DRAIN base pal sanity, putting your base on a non stop spiral of sanity drain. XD Putting the Base to regular settings, and instead just optimizing the base is far more effective and productive in the long run. Them being less stress also make them eat less frequently, and have them seldom slack off. It also makes you swap your base pals less, and so they level up more consistently even while just doing base work making them more effective base defenders if you get raided.

There are a lot of cosmetic furniture items which currently do almost nothing but take up space and make a base more visually appealing for its human player(s). It would be a nice improvement if cosmetic items also gave a small buff to pals' sanity (up to a limit - I wouldn't want to be able to max SAN by spamming end tables). Take the good route and you get access to super powerful holy weapons that allow you to just steamroll the last couple levels and seal away the warlord once again, marry the paladin woman that treated you like garbage the whole game, and the world is saved. But take the evil route, the last few levels become much harder because you have to fight the order of paladins instead of the cult, who are much stronger, and you have no super-god-tier weapons. But the ending is far more interesting because you release said father/warlord, and you'd expect the typical "twist" of him betraying you since you've served your purpose. But no, he welcomes you with open arms, tells you the succubus he planted in your head to guide you to him will be your future queen, and you go off to conquer the world as a happy evil family.
