Undertow is their best for me. I love the later albums with the sophisticated progressive approach in them, but I kinda miss the raw punk energy of their earlier stuff... This is great.
What if you just randomly walked into some random dive bar in Philly, just to get a quick shot of Jameson to warm up from the awful winter weather....and you saw..........this.
These guys are goddamn terrifying sometimes. I think that if I was whatever the hell Maynard was staring at the whole show I would have been annihilated six times over just from his stare.
Maynard's been through some shit on inside, the shit he sings about is so deep =anger, pure hate and pain, the truth about this world, his new stuff is more spiritual but his first couple of albums are focased on anger, hate and pain. its Metal...at its core.....
First time I saw Tool was in '92 at the Warfield in SF. They opened up for Rollins Band and almost blew Henry off tha stage. Maynard's thousand yard stare and the trance inducing music brought the audience to a stand still - as though not one person in the audience wanted to miss a moment of a conscious-shifting catharsis.
Daaaaaaaamn! Wow. Favorite band of all time. And likely the best part is how much Maynard feels it. He is intense in that, and he looks like he's about to morph into his true form when he really gets into it. So cool!
Tool was the band that actually freak me out times, marylin Manson was just a huge act and I always saw it that way and was never freaked out by it, more the I research tool the more Interesting and crazy they are, creativity is one hell of a drug
Saw them at the old Grady Cole Center in Charlotte back in '97. Maynard was completely painted navy blue on 1 half of his body and the other half was white; from head to toe. He sang with a mic in each hand. What really got me though was how the guitar and bass tones were exactly the same as they were on the albums...crazy. And of course, Carrey's chops are even more ridiculous live. Prob the best show I've ever seen...
I don't think anybody has channeled their emotions into a performance more efficiently than Maynard has learned to. I think of it like a car. The fuel gives you x amount of energy, but in the translation from fuel to energy that moves the car, energy is lost in heat, exhaust, etc, and your car gets better fuel efficiency depending on how little energy is lost in the translation. Maynard's car runs at like 1000000 MPG
I love Maynards presence on stage. Doesn't try to fulfill any rocker image, just totally focus on internal energy. And so passionately focussed you feel his vibes through the video..
It feels like this is still an early version of this song with the lyrics, but good god the passion, despair and anger in Maynerd's voice! Makes me love this song and band even more.
Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this, my VHS bootleg recording of this show became unwatchable about 6 years ago thanks to repeated viewings. I missed them on this tour when I had the chance, and have been kicking myself for it ever since.
When I saw them in 07, they played all of 10k Days, two songs from Lateralus, and two songs from Aenima. I heard that they did Flood a few nights before and after, along with Pushit, instead of Right in Two and Intension.
i think he is just so into his music that he cant do anything but be so concentrated on what he has to do. but we all know that he did do alot of acid his his day. And from that he just is so inspired to ROCK!
no way, this version kicks ass, im going to big day out i hope they play some opiate or at least undertow i would be gutted if it was just 10,000 days and lateralus not saying their bad albums i just want the full tool experience
Maynard was in army, he saw crazy shit that you won't even see even if you wanted to. Plus, he owns a winery in Arizona. Do you still think he is has a addiction to drugs?
I'm sad that one of the best drummers ever has left the band to return to his 'old' band... Maynard K is one of the most, best fawked up peeps in 'modern' rock-and-roll... he will always have a good crew!
he sure does go someplace else when he sings
The funniest comment I've ever seen.
My dick is like bendy

It's by far my favorite Tool album. The others are great. But it hits the spot for me.
Totally agree.
Undertow gave me goosebumps it's a masterpiece!
Yup. Grittier.
What if you just randomly walked into some random dive bar in Philly, just to get a quick shot of Jameson to warm up from the awful winter weather....and you saw..........this.

Bottom is probably my favorite tool song of all time. This is pure grace
Maynard's been through some shit on inside, the shit he sings about is so deep =anger, pure hate and pain, the truth about this world, his new stuff is more spiritual but his first couple of albums are focased on anger, hate and pain. its Metal...at its core.....
Ye, it's pain inside. I know this. He perfeclty captures feelings.

DAMN Maynard has a million dollar stare and plays a mean ass air guitar!
This is the way Tool should be seen, up close, personal and raw. I want to be standing right in front of Maynard! Screaming!
2:17
the face I have every morning when I wake up and look in the mirror
Amazing. You hear this version pretty much on the demo of the song. You can find it on here.
I love Maynards presence on stage. Doesn't try to fulfill any rocker image, just totally focus on internal energy. And so passionately focussed you feel his vibes through the video..
Have you guys ever seen a show live or here in youtube where Adam played angry?
Damn, he always plays like he doesnt gives a fuck, except this one
Damn was Maynard old enough to drive to the show?
he's 27 in this, so apparently he was

My bottom sucked so bad. Death disappoint depression. I let a lot of individuals down including myself or especially myself
Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this, my VHS bootleg recording of this show became unwatchable about 6 years ago thanks to repeated viewings.
I missed them on this tour when I had the chance, and have been kicking myself for it ever since.
Saw them back in '94 with Paul, great bass player
i was lucky enough to see them with paul too
When I saw them in 07, they played all of 10k Days, two songs from Lateralus, and two songs from Aenima.
I heard that they did Flood a few nights before and after, along with Pushit, instead of Right in Two and Intension.
awesome video of early tool! can't believe they only have a handful of people at the club! IT ws only a matter of months before they blew up!
My biggest regret in life...not seeing tool "raw as fuck"...just like this😠Maynard is brutal

One of my greatest discovered things.
god i wish i was in philadelphia in 1992, even at 5 years of age I would have appreciated the shit out of this
I'll make weapons out of all my imperfection cause there's no other choice
Young Maynard is so intense. No wonder he sings basically off stage now. He'd have had a coronary by now.
I love how into it he gets.
MaYnArD us tripping hard!
This recording is great. Probably the best recording aside from that one pro shot. Thanks to the camera man.
wow, a glass of water at the end. remember those?
this is AWESOME! thx for sharing! such a good old movie! ty daveh0ndoras!
Bloody hell, that was fuckin intense!
SO MUCH EMOTION THERE O_O

Ironically somethings comes alive inside of me when this song plays.
Who the hell disliked this video?? Must be a Black Keys fan
@AnkHknA I really wish I could go. I narrowly missed the chance about a month ago and I was crushed.
I cant wait for a primus reproduction
hard to the core
Jesus 92? I was barely a 2 year old haha had I known any better I would've been at this show right in front lmao
I think this was before the studio version, he sings different lyrics here.
The raw Tool days. Intense!
rage played a concert here too. youtube it, it is awesome

Puissant, c'est passé trop vite tout ca... Fcckkiing 2kxx's
HE does not BLINK the whole time of the poem. And hardly even the rest of the song
👁👁
I would fucking kill to see them play stuff from Undertow live again, man.
maynard, i wish i can meet you.
Notice that he never blinks. He is not human, but I think is a great.
Maynard look so pissed and i love it.
That was not London, the Senser lead singer did the Henry Rollins speech.
Maynard went through re-hab to break drug addiction. He was on various drugs during this era. Now he is just a wine connoisseur.
@clutchcrippler He drinks a shitload of wine, actually. He owns a vineyard.
I wish Maynard could still sing like this.
What a fucking genious..
@clutchcrippler Somewhat true: Maynard claims to be free of all drugs circa 1997.. :)
Holy shit Paul’s bass tone is fucking nasty
this is one cool dude

Man this comment really shows its age
they obviously had no idea what they'll progress into. Its like being at the first hendrix show
2020
no way, this version kicks ass,
those rim shots sound so good on that snare
@clutchcrippler well they weren't free of drugs at the time this video was recorded but now yeah he's totally just absorbed in the music
the lyrics are different cuz this was 2 years before it was recorded.
is this like an old version of this song it seems different and faster, and this is before that album came out
I would definitely wanne go do acid!!
maynard's great!!
