Yes, it is. But if you are talking about performing a set of demanding songs, one after another, then you have to pick your spots. You can compromise on a few to peak and hit the most memorable screams. Being a rock vocalist myself, I can attest that it is all about managing your present conditioning, vocal health, and how the setlist is that you are yet to perform.
@@DuncanWLievi maynard knew how to properly sing (learned it as a choir boy) so he was able to scream with the best technique. While yeah it did its toll. its remarkable he was able to scream for 2 hours a night for 10 plus years.

He hit all the high notes during The Grudge, even the scream at the end. What gets more difficult is holding out those high notes when you get older. Your vocal cords lose their elasticity, which is also part of the reason your voice becomes lower pitched as you age. Your lung capacity decreases as does the strength of your diaphragm, which is where the guttural screams come from. It’s age. Maynard, Corey, Chris Cornell, and all the good ones find ways to make do with what they have. Maynard will never sound as good as he did during AEnima. Because he’s also 30 years older than he was when he recorded those songs.
