Monty looks like he spends his spare time gazing into wide open spaces, solving the Riemann Hypothesis in his mind or deciding which puddle of sun will be best for his next nap.

pyrenees are known for their patience when doing whatever with them 😅 one saw a pyrenees watching some goats with their babies. the dog wanted to sleep while the baby goats wanted to play with him and on top of him. he didn't care at all and stayed put the whole time 😅 just gorgeous. and sorry, if there is a word for baby goat then I don't know it. I'm from germany 😅

I grew up with Great Pyrs, and they're such gentle giants. I never had an issue with them growling or biting. They'd grumble a bit, sure, but never got aggressive. They'd bark a lot at strangers outside the house, but it was more of an announcement of company than anything else.

He is definitely a Pyrenees dog but probably mixed with Golden retriever. Pure joy , sweetness and loyalty in one dog. Very lucky parents ☺️

Nah, I think the rabid barking at the blowdry of the face disqualifies this dog from that running. There have been dogs that have gone through the entire process much better than that.

I had a Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix that looked very much like him, named Winston. He was the sweetest boy...loved everybody! He passed in January this year, and I am lost without him! ❤

As someone who just recently got a Great Pyrenees/Maremma Sheepdog mix, she's almost 5months old, she's a sweetheart. Our hopes were originally to have her be a guard dog for the yard and protect our chickens, as of now she's very aware of her surroundings and just naturally seems to want to oversee everything. She's been a great addition to our home.
My god, this is incredible. My dog looked almost exactly like this, albeit his hair was shorter. Mine was a mix between a swiss shepherd and a labrador. My brother for more than 17 years. Sadly passed away a few months ago. Took care of him when he couldn't walk anymore for two years. Never found a dog that looked like he did, he was quite a unique breed, and this dog is the one that came closest to him. And he was a dog so good that words cannot describe him. Never bite anyone, was friendly to cats, birds and dogs alike. Best brother in the world.
That is some good innings 17 year, sucks when we have to say good bye they never do get enough time.

Some astute viewers may have noticed while Monty was getting his nails trimmed that this gentleman has two thumbs on each front paw! Double dewclaws, both front and back, are a characteristic present in many livestock guardian dogs and their mixes. I agree that this fella looks like a Goldie cross! What a handsome and well-behaved boy :D

mine Tornjaks has fifth nail and finger on each paw, is that what you double dewclaws? normaly those fifth are problem for low temp heavy snow, could be broken or ripped...

He looks like a Golden Pyrenees for sure and yes, they're THE best dogs in the world! They're a rare instance of a mixed breed actually being a consistent improvement upon both breeds; Pyrs and Goldens have the same coat type (closed, water repellent double coat) and very similar confirmation, so you consistently get a well built animal instead of the cobbled together, arthritis prone train wreck that most poodle mixes are. And the middle ground of their coats is often even better than either breeds.
Are they behaviorally more one breed than another?

No they don't have you heard of the Maremma? The Great Pyrenees and Maremma have the same fur texture. They both are from the mountains the Maremma is from Italy and the Great Pyrenees is from France

I thought Golden at first, but I pulled up side by side pictures of both, and it's definitely lab, they have wider set eyes and a wider nose.

Great Pyrenees are truly amazing dogs. My in-laws wound up with one guarding their goats after the neighbor sold off their goats and the dog couldn't handle not having a job. He hopped a fence and made their place his new home. We watched him in action when a goat started giving birth while we were visiting. He calmly sat between us and the mama, ensuring we kept a respectful distance, but not acting aggressively in any way. His size and vigilance were more than enough to keep us following his rules.
I had the privilege of cohabitating with two pyr mix dogs; a brother and sister bonded pair. I'm pretty sure they were mixed with Australian Shepherd. Such good guard dogs! Such a sense of security you get when a pyr decides you're under their protection. Although I did say 'cohabitating' because they definitely see the relationship with their humans more as equals than many other breeds do.
Animals are truly the salt of the earth. Bless them all, and all the people who love them.

@@troymash8109 We have a codependent relationship with our Golden but it is equal between us all, but time dependent. Morning is my time, as I walk him around the yard to check for any nightly incursions by cats and other evil things, and then it's back to co until afternoon when it is time for my wife to walk him. At that point I am a nonentity/nothing. Then back from the walk and its me again to throw seeds to the birds as he chases each can of seeds, twirly in circles and barking. And then co as he waits till he guilts one of us to giving him his 7PM milk bones.
So the dog was just like “I need goats, there are some goats! I work here now”?

I think because of his amazing calm personality, Monty must be either part Golden or Labrador Retriever! It looked like he was enjoying it for the most part. He understood it was his spa day!
I agree I had labrador and he was the most chill dog but he hated only one thing. If I would blowing air at his face😂😂 yeah that was no reason for me to do it but when you are kid with no technology and only dog you do such stupid things.

ITT people don't know that pyrenees are usually like this during the day. They're slightly better behaved than goldens and labs, if anything. Their attitude may change when the sun's down, though.
edit: The only other pyrenees video on the channel I found has a different dog behaving the same as Monty here during the grooming. Maybe slightly better.

I have a 12 year old Great Pyrenees and, if you can handle a large...ok...HUGE dog (mine's 154 lbs), you'll never find a better dog. Sure, they have their quirks, however, mine has given me pure joy. Unfortunately, she's getting toward the end and it breaks my heart. Not quite sure how I'm going to handle it. She's been my companion, my friend, my guardian and such an amazing partner in so many adventures.
My friend has one, super lazy, super cuddly, super convenient to ride into battle

My shih tzu passed away a few days ago, I let her go peacefully at the vets as she was suffering from all sorts of age related problems.. she was 17. I knew the day was gonna come and I too was not sure how I was gonna take it... It was very hard, Especially watching her being put to sleep 😭Full of sadness and guilts, She's been a long part of my life.. A shadow always clinging to me.. I'm still in a mess sometimes... But I tell myself she had a very long life and it was the best thing for her to let her go rather than carry on in a bad shape at home until the end xx

@@toonjiewhat? no. he might have some golden in him but he definitely has more than a little great pyrenees. look at the size of him and how long his legs are. he's up to her waist. english creams are stocky, blocky dogs and their fur isn't as floofy. also, notice the double dewclaws on the hind legs. that's a dead giveaway for great pyrenees blood.
i have a golden with several gp/gp mix friends, and i will admit there are a lot of visual similarities between the dogs. but iykyk. they are quite distinct.

My mother's oldest friend used to have a Great Pyrenees called Monty. I loved him so much. As he got older, he put on some weight (the only herding and protecting he was doing was a flock of chooks), and we started calling him a dining table, his back was so broad. Even still, he lived a long life for such a big dog, 12 years or so. Beautiful soul.

I just brought home a great pyr mix and I'm still basically a stranger to her, but she lets me touch her paws, trim out mats from her ears, and holds my hand in her mouth when she's done with brushes. She even came from a not great background and only grumbles just a little bit. I honestly feel so lucky to have found her. I think she's a lab or golden mix, maybe a border collie. She's very clever and high energy but has the distinctive white floof and black nose and back dew claws. (But not doubles)

I got my Great Pyrenees mixed with a German Shepard at 5months old, i guess they never socialized her cause she hates everyone she meets but on the other hand i read that they see everything as predators. But it took her around a week to get used to me and since then she never left my side. At my parents she would sneak in behind me on the coach and basicly hug me into her as she was unsure about the people 😂 Now she gets along great with my parents after 6months of moving back in the area. But still doesn't see my siblings frequently so she still on guard when they come in
After owning three goldens in my lifetime, I got a Great Pyrenees and Goldens retriever mix two years ago. They look like twins. That’s what you have. 😀

My standard poodle was a sweet heart. Whenever I took her to be groomed the praises would fly when I picked her up. She died at thirteen 2019. She had such a sense of humor and was protective of me. I miss her every day. I enjoy your channel so much. Thanks
