The toxicity is that it weirdly can make you love them more. As she says at the start of the film "The ones handicapped without the use of a good parking space." But yes, Iris is SO relatable.

it is so hard ESPECIALLY when 2nd has been around for so long and your love for them had grown so much to a point it almost becomes motherly when it isn't bad. You feel obliged to help them, change them; make them happy. But something we often forget that we need to remember: Who is going to be there to make YOU happy? He listens and responds to her, makes her laugh. He even made a piano piece for her, so sweet Miles. Top of that, a one woman guy. He's not the hunky, strikingly attractive, sexy type, but his personality shines through. Sweet, loving, and kind. I want a husband like him. Could my Miles be out there?😂
The words she says in this scene makes it so true and real that you can relate to it because you been there and how at times it can linger around you even when you move on. 😢

This is probably one of the greatest relationship movies around. She opens by perfectly describing unrequited love. The most painful kind of love. I put The Holiday right up there with Last Night, 5 to 7, Cheri, Gigi, If a man answers, Married Life, Sex and Mrs. X, The VIPs, Dangerous Beauty, When Harry Met Sally, Somethin's Gotta Give.

I just ended the same situation with someone. Someone I worked with, someone who kept coming back into my life with those really painful half promises that went nowhere, someone who didn't seem to care that I was so angry whenever I was left crying because plans were once again cancelled or I was once again left confused by his wording. By his own admission, he wasn't someone that was there to help me solve my problems, he was "just a distractor". And I really have no excuse for wanting to believe that he would be a better person "the next time". This movie came on christmas night, I haven't watched it since I was a teenager, but this time this scene made me bawl. It really hits differently when you've been through it.
No doubt about that...been there as well, and much like Iris in the movie I also had an epiphany moment when I realized that this girl I cared so much for was simply not who I thought she was or wanted her to be. When that realization hits you and you understand that its not you that is missing out...its them, the healing can begin and you start moving forward and getting over things. Just wish that the whole process would have been a bit more expedited...the whole mess hung over me like a storm cloud for far too many years.

I feel bad for Iris, but at the end, I'm so inspired that she came to her senses. You can tell a LOT about a person by the way they treat their partner. If he valued his actual GF, Iris would have never been in this situation. The way I see it: she dodged a bullet but the other girl has to live with someone insecure, childish, untrustworthy, indecisive. He has to go through life always searching for his next conquest, never being satisfied with what he has. Everyone in this dynamic is suffering, but at least Iris is aware enough to make a change. You couldn't pay me to be in a marriage with someone like Jasper. Condolences to his future wife.
I love how Arthur gets it right away and sets to give her “homework” of watching old movies with all these positive female characters with “gumption”, and completely supports her unconditionally. I love Iris and Miles’s story but Iris and Arthur’s friendship is the backbone of the movie to me

This is so relatable. When my ex and I broke up last year. I was devastated and my heart was ripped out and I totally understand what she means. It’s hard and rough especially with how much you loved that person.
Okay wow! Top notch acting by Kate Winslet all throughout this movie. From the moment Iris asked her co worker "Does it look like i'm crying right now." I really wanted to comfort her and give her a hug. However moments like when she first arrived in L.A and stuck her head out the window of the taxi and said "This is amazing!" and when she arrived at Amanda's house and was very excited was extremely adorable. Miles is a lucky man to have Iris and Arthur is right Jasper is a schmuck.

I spent 10 years feeling this way and part of that 5 of those 10 years was spent getting over them emotionally. It was hell. Absolute hell. It still brings tears to my eyes because I really did love this person so very deeply. This scene reminds me of that. However, now I'm ok. Jesus has healed my broken heart and gave life to my crushed soul and spirit.

I don't if he'll ever pass by this part of RUclips, but I'll take this chance. 2 years ago, I met this Korean guy. I immediately liked him. We became good friends. It took me a year to gather all my strength to tell him that I like him. He came to a party we threw for a friend's birthday. He was sleepy and I sat there beside him... I just took his hand and I told him that I like him. He did not answer me. The day after that, we never spoke the way we used to before. It felt like he was avoiding me, so just to protect my heart from more pain, I built this high wall between us and I started to avoid him. I would sometimes pass by him on the hallway or see him flirting with other girls on the other side of the office. I would sometimes see him glancing at me but I know it's just my imagination that I think he likes me a little bit. I know that if he really likes me, he'll find ways to be with me. But he doesn't. Now, every time I see him, my heart feels like it's being torn into pieces. I think I don't just like him. I love him.

Recently I am in Iris' position, this guy really took advantages of me, waste my energy and my time, he's already with somebody else but he still doesn't want to let go of me. I thought meybe we could be just friend, but I was wrong, I still love him, and this gives me ache whenever I remember he's already with someone else. My brain knew I should stop whatever this is, but my heart really wanted to stay and hoping one day he'll be back with me. Until I watch this movie few days ago, Iris really inspired me, and the next day I just brave myself to call him and get over whatever this twisted, toxic thing between us. It's painfull, and it's hard, but I believe, something good will come out of it.
Well by the end of this year and since i'm having the same pain as Iris, i really really hope that everyone can heal and find happiness for the rest of our lives ❤❤❤❤
Usually I’m not a fan of these compilations, but this was good. Without the need to move the story along, it allows the viewer to stay with Kate the extra time needed to feel the depth of her heartbreak.

It is always best to stand in integrity even if that means being in aloneness. A man that is a two-timer, will always be a two-timer. The signs of a two-timer are always there if you have your eyes and ears open. I remember I met a guy abroad, he was born in England. While dancing with him Spirit spoke to me and said, "We have someone else planned for him". We became platonic friends and just before I left the country he admitted he had been seeing five different woman at the same time. I had a lucky escape, saved by Spirit. Big smiles.

Cindy Nguyen This was the first time I've ever been in love and first time I've had my heart broken ( At 36 mind you). So to say that this has been one of the hardest and most painful things I've ever been through in my life is an understatement. Thing is I've had my fair share of men wanting to commit to me but I never felt the same way back....except this time. I'd never met such a kind, good hearted, sincere, funny, witty, sarcastic, inspiring man in my life. He is still that man.....just not mine and letting go has been hard. Especially since he has been trying to hold on to our friendship and connection, as we had a deep one, but I know that's not healthy for me right now. Thank you so much for your kind words, you're so right. I am a positive person and am moving forward but I HATED when friends or family said stuff like that when the pain was unbelievablly fresh and real. I know they mean well but still. It's ok if someone says " "I'm so sorry, I know your in pain, this just plain sucks. I'll be here if you need a friend." Which your words were equivilant to :). Seems like you truly understand, and it means a lot. Just to know someone is there is enough and "silver linings" or stuff like " you dodged a bullet" or " he did you a favor" just irritates the wound in my heart. It's been a long grieving period, trying to get my confidence back and let him go at the same time. I'm in the process of healing and finding me again but it's been a slow process. I still feel that dull ache in my heart. But I'm working hard at achieving my dreams and maybe all this staying busy and distracting myself w passion work can truly turn into true happiness soon if I keep focused ....and I can be happy without him again. It WOULD help if he didn't contact me and try and hang out. I wish he'd just let me heal properly. I've cut off communication twice but somehow he still manages to wiggle back into my life and I know that is my fault for letting him back in, but I truly do care about him and wish him the best..... But its just too painful to keep in contact knowing he has a fiance. I told him we'd always be friends but that I needed time to heal and one day in the future we could be friends again. But after 2 weeks he'll just message again trying to be in my life. I'll just have to find the strength to do what I need to do for me. You're a beautiful soul Cindy and I can feel your love and warmth inside my heart. I'm sending all my Gratitude, Appreciation and Love to you. I know I'll have my hard days and some days I still just want to cry, but it truly helps that even though I don't know you, you do understand that grief has no expiration date and everyone heals on there own time. I love how Arthur gets it right away and sets to give her “homework” of watching old movies with all these positive female characters with “gumption”, and completely supports her unconditionally. I love Iris and Miles’s story but Iris and Arthur’s friendship is the backbone of the movie to me

Okay wow! Top notch acting by Kate Winslet all throughout this movie. From the moment Iris asked her co worker "Does it look like i'm crying right now." I really wanted to comfort her and give her a hug. However moments like when she first arrived in L.A and stuck her head out the window of the taxi and said "This is amazing!" and when she arrived at Amanda's house and was very excited was extremely adorable. Miles is a lucky man to have Iris and Arthur is right Jasper is a schmuck.

I spent 10 years feeling this way and part of that 5 of those 10 years was spent getting over them emotionally. It was hell. Absolute hell. It still brings tears to my eyes because I really did love this person so very deeply. This scene reminds me of that. However, now I'm ok. Jesus has healed my broken heart and gave life to my crushed soul and spirit.

I don't if he'll ever pass by this part of RUclips, but I'll take this chance. 2 years ago, I met this Korean guy. I immediately liked him. We became good friends. It took me a year to gather all my strength to tell him that I like him. He came to a party we threw for a friend's birthday. He was sleepy and I sat there beside him... I just took his hand and I told him that I like him. He did not answer me. The day after that, we never spoke the way we used to before. It felt like he was avoiding me, so just to protect my heart from more pain, I built this high wall between us and I started to avoid him. I would sometimes pass by him on the hallway or see him flirting with other girls on the other side of the office. I would sometimes see him glancing at me but I know it's just my imagination that I think he likes me a little bit. I know that if he really likes me, he'll find ways to be with me. But he doesn't. Now, every time I see him, my heart feels like it's being torn into pieces. I think I don't just like him. I love him.

Recently I am in Iris' position, this guy really took advantages of me, waste my energy and my time, he's already with somebody else but he still doesn't want to let go of me. I thought meybe we could be just friend, but I was wrong, I still love him, and this gives me ache whenever I remember he's already with someone else. My brain knew I should stop whatever this is, but my heart really wanted to stay and hoping one day he'll be back with me.
Until I watch this movie few days ago, Iris really inspired me, and the next day I just brave myself to call him and get over whatever this twisted, toxic thing between us.
It's painfull, and it's hard, but I believe, something good will come out of it.
Well by the end of this year and since i'm having the same pain as Iris, i really really hope that everyone can heal and find happiness for the rest of our lives ❤❤❤❤

It is always best to stand in integrity even if that means being in aloneness. A man that is a two-timer, will always be a two-timer. The signs of a two-timer are always there if you have your eyes and ears open. I remember I met a guy abroad, he was born in England. While dancing with him Spirit spoke to me and said, "We have someone else planned for him". We became platonic friends and just before I left the country he admitted he had been seeing five different woman at the same time. I had a lucky escape, saved by Spirit. Big smiles.

This movie is on my tv right now which is fate maybe lol. My ex just told me last Saturday he is engaged but still wants to continue to be friends. We've been separated 4 months. Trying to get through this is tough but I have to let go and trust I'll heal like Kate Winslets character says.
I'm so sorry. Sometimes, when people tell me "it'll get better" "this is the best thing he could've done for you" etc. I just don't like hearing it because I still feel that dull aching pain. So instead, I'm sending you love, and warmth. Grieving has no expiration date
Cindy Nguyen This was the first time I've ever been in love and first time I've had my heart broken ( At 36 mind you). So to say that this has been one of the hardest and most painful things I've ever been through in my life is an understatement. Thing is I've had my fair share of men wanting to commit to me but I never felt the same way back....except this time. I'd never met such a kind, good hearted, sincere, funny, witty, sarcastic, inspiring man in my life. He is still that man.....just not mine and letting go has been hard. Especially since he has been trying to hold on to our friendship and connection, as we had a deep one, but I know that's not healthy for me right now. Thank you so much for your kind words, you're so right. I am a positive person and am moving forward but I HATED when friends or family said stuff like that when the pain was unbelievablly fresh and real. I know they mean well but still. It's ok if someone says " "I'm so sorry, I know your in pain, this just plain sucks. I'll be here if you need a friend." Which your words were equivilant to :). Seems like you truly understand, and it means a lot. Just to know someone is there is enough and "silver linings" or stuff like " you dodged a bullet" or " he did you a favor" just irritates the wound in my heart. It's been a long grieving period, trying to get my confidence back and let him go at the same time. I'm in the process of healing and finding me again but it's been a slow process. I still feel that dull ache in my heart. But I'm working hard at achieving my dreams and maybe all this staying busy and distracting myself w passion work can truly turn into true happiness soon if I keep focused ....and I can be happy without him again. It WOULD help if he didn't contact me and try and hang out. I wish he'd just let me heal properly. I've cut off communication twice but somehow he still manages to wiggle back into my life and I know that is my fault for letting him back in, but I truly do care about him and wish him the best..... But its just too painful to keep in contact knowing he has a fiance. I told him we'd always be friends but that I needed time to heal and one day in the future we could be friends again. But after 2 weeks he'll just message again trying to be in my life. I'll just have to find the strength to do what I need to do for me.
