What a coincidence! This is exactly what I am shooting with now, my D40 (I bought 17 years ago) with a 35mm f/1.8 AF-S Nikkor lens down to the lens hood! It's 18-55mm kit lens is great too because of its ED coating. Happy shooting!
@@ashtheflashchannelI hope you get a few more good years out of it. My D40 has been very reliable and low maintenance. It just needs a bit of cleaning that includes sensor swabs once in a while. The original battery went kaput a long time ago, but cheaper legit 3rd party brands I use now (Pisen, Palo) work fine. I bring it with me on motorcycle rides without worrying about damage. It's just 6MP, so I shoot RAW all the time. Still good. Good luck!
Have my 35/1.8 DX since jan. 2009. Bought the D40 into late 2006. I suggest to update the Firmware to A: 1.12, B: 1.11 which is the latest. Further, the DK-20 eyecup from the D60 shields better against stray light, also better if you wear glasses. Well, got my 2nd copy in 2023 for literally
Thanks for sharing! Has become one of my favorites (and I have 8 Nikon DSLRs -- grin). More simplistic controls & a great CCD sensor. Works very well with the 18-55mm DX kit lens as well. And not restricted to only a couple lenses; some folks enjoy using the Nikon Series E fully manual lenses with this camera. Picked mine up for $50 USD with 3100 activations on it in April of this year.
Nice video! I used to own a nikon d300 and I can definitely back up what you said! With a good lens and plenty of light, those older cameras can produce pretty good results! Cheers mate
I bought used D300 in Feb. 2012 as my first digital dslr and it's still my main gear. This camera is really enough for my needs. What I love about D300 is its weight- it greatly lies in the hand.
i just tested my mom's D40 too just last Saturday. last used 2015, and it still works perfectly fine after i inserted a newly-bought ENEL9. Loving it right now, even my mom asked me to come with her on an running event that she will participate to here in Manila. i absolutely love this camera, shoots great photos. im using Raw+Basic quality me and my mom really love this camera, it's been with us since i was a kid. Im 17 now. i hope you have a great journey with that camera, and hope that i will have a good journey with mine too!!!
It's kind of sad that DSLRs are now practically gone. In many ways they are better than mirrorless cameras, they are affordable and you can take marvelous pictures with them. Oh well, time goes on, and all that stuff.
It's one of photographys biggest mysteries why oh why do people change their gear so often? There are loads of good used cameras out there just waiting to be bought.....Don't spend your money on expensive new gear spend it on travel instead and see the world!!!!!

No way! That’s awesome! I recently picked it up and love it.

Thank you! And good luck to you also! Happy shooting
Nice find! I think a lot of people (including myself) tend to underestimate how long a camera can last. Cheers for the video!
I am one of those people! I am learning that it is the lens that matters the most. Cheers!
I bought the D40X for $77 at MPB and have used the 35mm and 17-55mm. If you use good glass, the pics are great!
I totally agree. The camera can definitely help, but the lens will make or break the photo.

"old gear" can still be good gear! And more affordable!
@@ashtheflashchannel -- Heartily agree, Buddy!
I saw this dslr in the shop. Such a small camera when compairing it with my Nikon D200
I have heard great things about the D200

@@TomikoPL Didn't realize the D300 used CF cards!
love my D40, the sensor is the boom!!!
For an 18 year old camera, I'm very impressed with it!

That's awesome! There is a lot to learn with this camera.
This camera brings back a lot of bad memories because my ex GF that I loved the most out of my all EX's was using this exact camera.😂
Cry for you 😢
Beautiful pictures!!
Thank you very much!
can you upload or send those presets are very nice man
Hi! I have presets here if you're interested: ashtheflash.gumroad.com/
Got this baby last year for $100 with 11k actuation
Still my main camera for learning
That's awesome! I think it's great to learn on and to produce great images. Have a lot of fun!

Technology advances so fast that cameras can lose a lot of their value.
May I know where to get the preset?
It is a mix of them. I used Taylor Jackson and John Branch's presets
@@ashtheflashchannel❤ thanks!
does it have live view
It does not. Viewfinder only.

There are good “older” cameras, you’re right!
Nikon gear, in particular, seems to be really cheap these days. 70-200 VRII for $500??!!! And cheap bodies.
I am very surprised with the pricing
