  • As the title states this video is the steps to take to change the transmission fluid and filter on your scion tc. It is not as scary as you might think, you can do it and it is recommended to change your trans fluid every 60k miles.If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to help. Good luck and thank you for watching.

Looking back, I won't do this job again. It's easy enough as this video shows, but it can get quite messy if you're doing it in your driveway. And the mess and disposal of the old fluid isn't worth it imho. Also, the pan gasket screws are installed with factory red Loctite. So, they can be really hard to get off.

    • @Marinexize
      @Marinexize 6 лет назад +3

      Rogelio Hernandez i don't have any info but i will say all fluids eventually wear out. Depending on how you drive and where you drive you might be able to get away with not changing your fluid for some years. If your transmission starts to shift funny you can try to change the fluid and hopefully that works. Personally i do mine every 100k with a tuneup. My current car now has just over 200k with no issues.

    • @apesintanks162
      @apesintanks162 6 лет назад +1

      Rogelio Hernandez
      Rodelio we live in the beautiful time when long lasting cars are not profitable capitalism what can you do. it should be changed at 60k drain and fill only never flush. Russians do it every 40k miles or 60k kilometers. If you can do it then do it, I personally had volvo 2001 with 100k on it transmission started shifting rough, oil change fixed it, drives good still may glitch once in a while but totally can last another 60k, dealer said don't change it or you'll ruin it. I suggest if it was done at 60 maybe I wouldn't have problem with transmission since in 2001 volvo was buying Aisin transmissions (transmission manufacturer for Toyota) I'll probably do transmission oil change video on 2011 scion tc. I just never thought somebody would be interested in it.

    A question to the group here. Seems there is always one bolt that you can't get to. There is one on the 2013 TC transmission pan that a subframe part is in the way of. I'm guessing I need to jack up the engine slightly but wanted to get confirmation. What do you think?

    • @docouchi7929

      That’s the fluid check bolt, take that down with a hex, that just to drain, but remember you also need to open the fill plug and and drain plug to allow all of it out … and since there is no dip stick you need to either pump it up from the bottom or fill it from the top fill plug, try filling to 3 quarts and leaving the cock Pan open while having the car on

      I have a 2015 xB with about 27k on it, I use it a lot. I have been researching the Toyota WS ATF, seems that most (not all) Toyota enthusiasts agree that this fluid is crap, many Toyota guys replace their WS right away with something like Redline D4/D6 or Valvoline MaxLife ATF. Plenty of other alternatives to WS out there. The problem isn't the filter or the internal parts, it's the fluid, WS breaks down easily and in no time your getting the dreaded "red light bump." WS ATF, IMO, should be flushed every 25k-30k, depending on weather and driving conditions. For example, a 70 year old lady in Florida that drives her Scion/Toyota 3 times a week to bingo and 2 times a week to Publix, putting 5000 miles a year on the ODO, may not need an ATF change EVER. Up here in Jersey, our winters go down to 0F and our summers up to 100F+. I drive tri-state, includes all the hills in PA and stop and go traffic in major cities like NYC for example. I can easily cook my ATF. Every car that uses oils/fluids, all of them need to be changed eventually, no such thing as "lifetime fluids" unless you live in a fantasy world where the clouds are made of cotton candy and the tree bark is really dark chocolate.

      I'm also from the NJ - PA area. We have a 2009 RAV4 w/ 2.5 liter four cylinder and 4-speed automatic. I have Scangauge to monitor ATF temperature. There is one route with a long hill that comes into our city. We don't travel it often but last time we came home on that route the ATF went up to 226°F. Those temperatures cook the ATF. Once the ATF is damaged it doesn't perform as well at both lubrication and dissipating heat. Yesterday we had a transmission cooler installed. I'm hoping that will make a difference. Last year I did a single drain and fill on the tranny and yesterday a second one was done (less than 17,000 miles between them).

    What's the trick to getting the old fluid out of the cooling lines

      Without an actual flush machine the best you can do is disconnect everything and hope for most of it to bleed down into the pan, more frequent changes will slowly make sure there is less original fluid present.
