I agree with 1042Adam, In my home state of Virginia, Radar Sets are calibrated by Certified Police Officers at the beginning of their tour of duty. Those tuning forks are used in the calibration of the radar set. The tuning forks found in this Chevrolet Caprice PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) should have been removed prior to the vehicle being wholesaled at auction. Oops, somebody screwed up!
I thing GM screwed the pooch when they killed Holden. The Pontiac GTO and G8 and the Chevy Caprice are awesome vehicles and I think an Australian style Ute would have done very well. Keep up the great vids!
There was stupid in that they never offered these for sell for the general public. They would have sold many of them. they only offered the ultra high-end Chevy SS which is basically the same car.
@@hullinger You know Chris, Pontiac was on the verge of importing the Ute, before their demise that came from the 2008 financial crisis. That would have been soooo very cool indeed. They are radar calibration check forks. They should say what frequency range they are. Example X, K, KA ETC... You check both individually in stationary mode. Then place the unit in moving mode, strike both forks and you should get the radar to read as if your moving and calculating the speed correctly. 1 MPH out of what is stamped on them you are okay. Any further out then the radar unit needs to come out for service. Also make sure there are no nicks or chips in the forks or the frequency changes. We test ours at the beginning and end of every shift. Some departments check their units at the beginning of the shift and after every speeding ticket they write. They should even have a serial number on them that corresponds with the radar unit they are from. Also on a side note in OHIO you write the ticket for what speed you observed and then confirmed with the radar unit. You have to visually estimate it before you confirm your estimate. I know it sounds crazy but that's how the law is written. And yes before anyone on here gives me crap I am a law enforcement officer in Ohio and I am a certified instructor for the State of Ohio to teach and instruct this subject matter. Disclaimer that your state will have similar laws to Ohio but not exact. I am still amazed after many years of doing this how different states are from each other.
Hey Chief, thanks for the awesome explanation on those tuning forks. Are these something I should drop off at the police station or leave with the car as a souvenir?
@@hullinger I'd leave them in the car. The chances of them working at the local PD is slim as they should be serial numbered to the Radar unit and the band would have to be the band that they use.

its not a Chevy its a Holden built in Australia. It's a Holden Commodore Caprice. they came with ether the 3.8 Buick derived v6 or 3.6 ecoteh v6 or the 5.7 or 6.2 Chevy based v8 the body is loosely based on an Opel.

BTW I have owned a 2011 Chevy Caprice V8 6.0L L77 for 7 years here in Texas USA. It is a Holden Caprice or Statesman in Australia, it was imported to the USA as a Chevrolet Caprice PPV from 2011 to 2017 with either the 3.6L V6 or the 6.0L V8. They NEVER had any other engine and the first run of 2011 Caprice PPV here in the USA were all 6.0L V8. The Chevy Caprice NEVER had a 6.2L engine, ever in the USA. The keys with the Chevy logo on the back are the keys that didn't get done when the car the got recall done. For the key that doesn’t turn the car on, try reprogramming it through the dash. I believe there’s a video on it.
Ahh yes. The caprice. I call this car Frankenstein. Front end looks like the older Malibu Back looks like an Impala And I believe the SS came with a Corvette engine.
I think Australia--Holden-- is more interested in horsepower then GM in the US is. American GM puts all their effort and resources into the Corvette, which is great for the Vette guys, but what about us non Vette guys? Another reason why I LOVE the Caprice.
It's a Statesman (Caprice) body but with a more basic specification and police-friendly modifications. Making it a police-spec Commodore with extra room in the rear seat, in a way, rather than the luxo-barge that was sold in Oz.
Great video Chris I just got a 2015 caprice can u tell me more about the DOD and where u order that from off marketplace or what website is that and what’s that call again??
i do have one and they are nice its my daily drive has been for almost 4 years now. my car had around 12k miles and 848 idle hours and it was 3 years it was with some police commissioner or fbi agent i could never get a straight answer rom the dealer . they got rid of it for something new my car was at a dealership not an auction it still had the police lights, bull bar, radio and walkey and a shotgun or rifle mount. all but the mount, radio and 2 lights that was still mounted on the car at the time, the was in the trunk.
Dude, your Caprice sounds like a super sweet ride. Crazy about the mileage and idle hours too. Enjoy that ride and thanks for checking out my Caprice PPV video too.
@@hullinger i did get lucky on the miles it was some commissioner car so it wasnt used like a patrol car i put more miles on it in 1 year then he did in 3 but thats fine when i buy something i use it. i recommend it to everyone looking for a car you have to look for websites that only sell police cars and you can find the low miles one there interceptor king one ive seen everything on that site 10k miles tahoe ssv and chargers with 20k miles. the good stuff not in the auctions its at a dealer
Its really mind boggling how copart hit you with them fees.. Even storage fee. Just got a 2005 C240 500/820 out door. Storage was 130 couldn't get it out under 4 days
I would like to get one but the thing that worries me is parts, especially in Europe... I daily drive a 2000 Grand Marquis and a 91 Caprice and parts for those are easily available but these never Caprices were not produced in that great numbers.
Enjoyed the vid as always. Couple of questions, do those extra keys do anything like open the trunk or glovebox? How long have you been buying from auctions? You really know what you are doing. Thank you.
Hey buddy, nice to hear from you. One of those extra keys will lock and unlock the doors and will turn in the ignition too, but won't start the car. The other extra key won't do anything. I'm betting it goes to one of the other 5 Caprices from that auction. As for auction buying, I guess it's been maybe 3 years now. Started out buying lawn mowers, then Crown Vic's and now anything that's interesting and fun.

Chris L If your referring to my car, you know nothing about it, not slow and definitely Not GARBAGE
Those are tuning forks to calibrate a radar unit. (Retired deputy sheriff here) lol
The keys with the Chevy logo on the back are the keys that didn't get done when the car the got recall done. For the key that doesn’t turn the car on, try reprogramming it through the dash. I believe there’s a video on it.
Ahh yes. The caprice. I call this car Frankenstein.
Front end looks like the older Malibu
Back looks like an Impala
And I believe the SS came with a Corvette engine.
in australia we call it a holden statesman...
I'm from Australia and didn't realise till you mentioned it that this based on a Holden Commodore.
paul all the good GM designs were produced by Holden.
The tuning forks are for calibrating the radar
Awesome Kip. So good to know about the tuning forks. Thanks for sharing that and thanks for following along too!
I love the video !
Thanks man and thanks for checking it out.
Tuning forks are to calibrate the speed radar detector
Those tuning forks are for calibrating radar guns. I googled it
If they sold these in this spec here in Australia that would have been cool
It's not a Holden Commodore. It's a Holden Caprice. Much larger and although it looks similar has very few sheared panels with the Commodore
These Caprices are cool! I'd probably get a V6 just because it doesn't have DOD.
might as well not even get it if you dont have av8
I really scare of those engine ticking noise, and just because of that I always stay far away from the Dodge Chargers in the auctions!
I love the content on the caprice , I would like to maybe bid on one ,but whats the best way to .
Front end collision
Fenders and hood and headlights replaced and front door blended
Can you tell us how you find these auctions? I really enjoy each of your videos.
What about parts availability for a limited production car only made in Australia?
Its really mind boggling how copart hit you with them fees.. Even storage fee. Just got a 2005 C240 500/820 out door. Storage was 130 couldn't get it out under 4 days
The tuning forks are for performing radar speed measurement. That’s old school. No one uses tuning forks anymore though.
Marc Washington not true in Delaware; the state police still use Ka 34.7 (Stalker). Even some of the small towns there use Ka 34.7.
You should rebadge it as a Holden!
Wankers here in Australia put the chev badges on their Holden Commodores.
I would like to get one but the thing that worries me is parts, especially in Europe... I daily drive a 2000 Grand Marquis and a 91 Caprice and parts for those are easily available but these never Caprices were not produced in that great numbers.
Are those hubcaps I see...or am I mistaken?
East Coast Classics interesting. Thank you. Take care.
Keep up the good content.
Appreciate that and thanks man!
The tuning forks were used to calibrate the radar unit. Don't know how they work
Nice 👍
