There was also the situation where the Opel Corsa F was being developed by GM on the G2XX platform, where near production ready vehicles were doing the rounds, then GM sold off Opel/Vauxhall to PSA and PSA dumped the GM Corsa F project and started again on their own platform and so produced the car we know today. The GM version of the axed Opel Corsa F went on to be used in China as the Buick Excelle sedan. Interesting clip, thanks for sharing.

Not too long ago, Jaguar was supposed to launch a new XJ but canned it due to questionable sales. And another example would be the second generation VW Phateon, which was also cancelled for the same reason.
The second gen Phaeton was most likely canned due to Dieselgate, as some other VW products Audi had to cancel their LMP1 program, and VW had to cancel racing in WRC in 2017 And the fact that no one really bought the Phaeton due to VW brand having a reputation for low-budget cars (VW in German means people's car)
Yeah, I remember hearing about the G8 ST. Then Pontiac was killed not long after so it never came. I miss Pontiac. The G8 was a great car but it never really stood a chance at saving the brand.
Great video, I love your channel because you are so knowledgeable about all car markets across the world. And your sense of humour is great too 😂 Greetings from the Netherlands 👋😃
A Pontiac G8 Ute would’ve been amazing here in America. Could’ve been the beginning of us making Utes to rival trucks like the SVT Raptor and Ram SRT-10
The Nissan Mid-4 should have been built and sold as Infiniti's answer to the Acura NSX. I believe if that had been done, Infiniti would have a real halo car by now. And they definitely need one right now.
I'm afraid now it's way too late for that. They failed with hybrids, European market - I won't be surprised if Nissan is gonna shut Infiniti for good next few years (or they'll come back with more hybrids and some evs).
The g8 ute did make it into production. In fact, it was already in production at that point as the VE commodore ute in Australia. It's just that it didn't end up getting made with pontiac badges.
I know you featured it in the last video, but the Jaguar XJ electric will always be a head-scratcher to me. Sales would never have been great, and I'm sure the technology was already dated before release, but how much did they save vs how much would they have gained from actually putting it out. I hope it leaks one day.
It's cause JLR suddenly wanted Jaguar to go fully upmarket (like back in the 1960s where it was only slightly below Bentley and RR. and the XJ wouldnt have fit in this new lineup restructure. It's weird but that's the case
The Alfa 75 Sportswagon is in my opinion the best didn't-make-it car I've ever seen. Such a pity. Also it seems that you favoured Chinese car industry in your videos very much. Glad to watch these obscure things get mentioned in RUclips. Love your content.
The 2012 Peugeot 208 was supposed to come with a convertible version like every model that preceded it but PSA was nearing bankruptcy at the time and in an effort to rationalize costs they abandoned the project in favor of the upmarket DS3 convertible within the group, except it was now a fixed profile convertible like the Fiat 500 instead of a full convertible like the 208 prototype that still exists and is showcased in the Peugeot museum.
I think they also sensed the market was moving away from convertibles, the 207CC sales were poor vs the 206CC, and it would have continued the trend. I'm surprised it made it as far as it did to be honest.
we still got the Pontiac G8 in Australia, while it's just a re-badged Holden VE commodore ute there was still a bunch sold to us as a Pontiacs and you'll see one every now and then despite being the exact same as their Holden counterparts just more expensive.
Also check out the Opel Omega V8. Came with a LS1 out of the C5 corvette and was production ready. Story is that one of the prototypes is used as a workshop car at the main Opel factory to this day. Really a shame
In 1977 (I think), Saab made 2 or 3 fully operational "97" hatchbacks based on the 95 wagon, which itself could be traced back to the 92 sedan of the 1940s. It would have been cool to see this make production as it could have stretched that lineage well into the 1980s.
skoda in early 2000s conquered market, so vw was definitely worried that their sub brand would surpass them and they kinda stopped then from developing their own quirky identity. i love early 2000s cars in general because i read about them in magazines when i was i kid. good times. and good video as usual
There is also the GM80 program from the 1980s where the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (and an Oldsmobile cousin) almost went FWD. Fully finished prototypes were built and were nearly done with testing, and only 18 months away from production.
Man, sad that Saab 9-5NG (and the 9-3NG 3rd gen Phoenix version) never made it into long term production, let alone the hatchback variant, which probably my favourite variant as it reminiscing to the 900/9000 models, and love it's odd liftback design. Other models that i'm sad that never made into production: - Range Rover Vogue 2 Door (same goes for any 2-door SUVs) - Hyundai R-class like model (I like the R-Class at it looked like MPV/Wagon instead of Popular Crossover) - Ford Taurus 1st gen with conventional grill - Dodge Calibre (Lancer based instead of the crossover)
I got to experience this first hand, in 2019 i was working for a company manufacturing seats for JLR, when they announced production of a 3-door luxury Range Rover SV Coupe, with only 1000 to be produced. We've built some prototype and pre-production seats for the cars, but after 6 sets or so, the project got cancelled, and i don't know what happened with those seats we've made.
my new favourite youtube channel :) keep up the work as for cancelled cars - what happened to the DeTomaso SLC from 2012? brand rebooted with suv-coupe model, got 1 450 orders from people, and nothing since that, no production started
I couldn’t find anything on what happened to the slc, but I do know that DeTomaso got a second revival, and it’s making more traditional supercars now. The P72 is supposed to go into production in the tail end of this year, although I doubt it’ll happen
Why isn't anyone talking about the Volkswagen Bluesport and their Audi (R4) and Porsche (55One) counterparts? They were somewhat close to production and then they got cancelled.
the Jaguar C-X75, 6 working prototypes where the blue coloured one was practically production ready, yet axed despite having gotten steady money support from Tata
2:45 I own a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with ~200,000 miles on it. I think it’s safe to say that if it were a luxury vehicle, I wouldn’t be carrying 8-12 foot boards of lumber in it and the occasional 200-800lbs of flooring, bricks, logs ect.
Count your blessings yours still run. I sell cars for a living, the amount of blown engines from Kia / Hyundai before 80k miles is mind boggling. I steer everyone to either Lexus or Toyota that’s wanting a good reliable SUV
2 great examples I can mention is the B32A was supposed to be a Nissan Almera replacement that rode on nissans C-platform and was supposed to be a conventional hatchback. However it got cancelled around 2002 during design stage as they couldn't figure out how to make it profitable. Instead we got the Nissan Qashqai. Another is that Caterham was supposed to help build the Alpine A110 and Caterham was supposed to have its own version but it got cancelled in 2014-2015 when they could afford to match Renaults development costs
I was very surprised the Saab NG9-5 (i own one) made it onto the list, I had no idea about the hatchback variant, I do know about the station wagon variant, however about 60 of those were made so it sort of went into production I suppose
When Opel was still a part of GM, they developed a new Corsa F on a GM platform, even spyshots of the car exist. But then Opel was sold to PSA (todays Stellantis) and they developed a different Corsa based on the Peugeot 208. Would love to see the GM version!

I once saw a coupe SS Tahoe from the previous generation that came with a 454 and a little shorter wheelbase than that which should be pretty decent off road; it has been my dream car ever since
A pretty famous one is the 5 or so new Lotus models revealed around 2010, none of which made it to production. It included an entirely new styling language, a new Elan, Esprit, Elise, GT 2+2 and four door GT - as well as at a later time an independent concept, the Ethos, which was a city car that also had that styling language.
I actually own one of those Dodge RamChargers from mexico. Mines a 2001, and i live in Canada. I had it imported last year. Cool little truck. Gets all kinds of attention.
GM really messed up by killing off Pontiac. They could finally educate americans to buy and enjoy aussie Commodores in all of its flavours, give a true Elcamino successor, a wagon Commodore on yop of just the sedan. They effectively killed Holden by this too, by boxing them into aussie/new zealand market only. Screw them for it

Came here to say this. THEY TOOK EVERYTHING FROM US!
The Pontiac sport truck as you called it was a Holden Commodore Ute that sold in the tens of thousands in Australia and New Zealand
such an underrated channel fr. cant wait for you to blow up dude 💯🔥
Gonna have nightmares about the Calibra B, thanks
There was also the situation where the Opel Corsa F was being developed by GM on the G2XX platform, where near production ready vehicles were doing the rounds, then GM sold off Opel/Vauxhall to PSA and PSA dumped the GM Corsa F project and started again on their own platform and so produced the car we know today. The GM version of the axed Opel Corsa F went on to be used in China as the Buick Excelle sedan.
Interesting clip, thanks for sharing.
If I’m not mistaken, he actually did acknowledge this mishap on his last vid, almost verbatim 😅
@@AnNguyen-cd3ny Oh my apologies! I haven't seen his last clip, but I'll check that out now!
4:20 fun fact. Police variants of the Taurus actually got a partially slotted grille. slots on the outer part
Yep. Was looking to see if someone brought this up.
They also were driven on occasion by robocop.
Talking about Chery, the A3 model was tested in Poland in 2010, as there were plans to produce it in FSO factory. I even saw one with my own eyes
They were pretty common in Russia. Manufactured locally and sold as M11
If the GMT-800 2-door Tahoe actually went into production, good condition models would be sought after today and beat up variants would plague high school parking lots in the states below the Mason-Dixon.
SAAB also continued their Subaru rebadge plans with the 9-6X that was essentially a facelifted Subaru Tribeca with a SAAB front end treatment. Two ready prototypes exist but when GM sold it's stake in Subaru the 9-6X was cancelled. Actually, many of the 9-6X design changes were used for that Tribeca facelift as the 9-6X was designed first.
I am upset the Pontiac Sporttruck didn't happen. it was litteraly a Holden Ute from Australia, a beloved car down there!
here's a great honorable mention- back when the prowler was new chrysler had experimented with putting a wrangler's 'box' into the area where you sit. i wish i could make this up. it's a wrangler that sits on its nuts with a prowler nose. there's even an old video on youtube documenting its' existence. it quite literally looks like something you would see if you popped your head into an alternate reality.
EDIT: ruclips.net/video/b4lqPAMHBnU/видео.html
it's a super obscure topic that i'd imagine will blow like chernobyl once more eyes lay on it
Not too long ago, Jaguar was supposed to launch a new XJ but canned it due to questionable sales. And another example would be the second generation VW Phateon, which was also cancelled for the same reason.
The second gen Phaeton was most likely canned due to Dieselgate, as some other VW products
Audi had to cancel their LMP1 program, and VW had to cancel racing in WRC in 2017
And the fact that no one really bought the Phaeton due to VW brand having a reputation for low-budget cars (VW in German means people's car)
2:56 WE WERE GONNA GET UTES??? DAMNIT!!
Yeah, I remember hearing about the G8 ST. Then Pontiac was killed not long after so it never came. I miss Pontiac. The G8 was a great car but it never really stood a chance at saving the brand.
could have been a modern day El Camino
You had me at the 2-door GMT800 Tahoe
Great video, I love your channel because you are so knowledgeable about all car markets across the world. And your sense of humour is great too 😂 Greetings from the Netherlands 👋😃
A Pontiac G8 Ute would’ve been amazing here in America. Could’ve been the beginning of us making Utes to rival trucks like the SVT Raptor and Ram SRT-10
these videos are so damn good, always a pleasure to watch your content!
Considering that Jaguar was supposed to be moving to a full electric lineup it is odd that they canceled the XJ.
It's cause JLR suddenly wanted Jaguar to go fully upmarket (like back in the 1960s where it was only slightly below Bentley and RR. and the XJ wouldnt have fit in this new lineup restructure. It's weird but that's the case
The Flavia is a Chrysler 200 convertible which I don’t think anyone here in America bought either
Ehh it had a somewhat good run running from 2011-2017 sold like atleast under a million cars that’s added up from the years together
The Alfa 75 Sportswagon is in my opinion the best didn't-make-it car I've ever seen. Such a pity.
Also it seems that you favoured Chinese car industry in your videos very much. Glad to watch these obscure things get mentioned in RUclips. Love your content.
1:40 Hyundai and Kia are the same company homeboy. They’re not trying to be an alternative, Hyundais are nicer Kia’s.
Sometimes the Kia is nicer. I like the Kia K5 better than the Hyundai Sonata and the Kia Stinger > the Genesis G70.
The channels going from strength to strength! Keep it up 👍
The 2012 Peugeot 208 was supposed to come with a convertible version like every model that preceded it but PSA was nearing bankruptcy at the time and in an effort to rationalize costs they abandoned the project in favor of the upmarket DS3 convertible within the group, except it was now a fixed profile convertible like the Fiat 500 instead of a full convertible like the 208 prototype that still exists and is showcased in the Peugeot museum.
I think they also sensed the market was moving away from convertibles, the 207CC sales were poor vs the 206CC, and it would have continued the trend. I'm surprised it made it as far as it did to be honest.
I would have been cool to see. At least PSA would have failed and didn't create Stellantis 😒
The 3rd gen Citroen C5 was also supposed to get a convertible variant called the C5 Airscape but it probably got cancelled for the same reason
@@filippoboschini8659 There are photos of it online
@@rosso_infernusI think the C5 Airscape was just a concept, it was shown before the regular C5 saloon arrived.
we still got the Pontiac G8 in Australia, while it's just a re-badged Holden VE commodore ute there was still a bunch sold to us as a Pontiacs and you'll see one every now and then despite being the exact same as their Holden counterparts just more expensive.
this is what we like. (press F to pay respect to all the cars that didn’t make it to production)

This is my new favourite RUclips channel! Keep up the great work
Also check out the Opel Omega V8.
Came with a LS1 out of the C5 corvette and was production ready.
Story is that one of the prototypes is used as a workshop car at the main Opel factory to this day.
Really a shame
1:00 Fabia Moment
The original Roomster also shared a lot of (front-) parts with Fabia and Yeti.
YES HE POSTED
I hate when things like these happen its just soo sad to see cars that almost got production 😭😭😭
There was also planned to be a Saturn rebadged Honda Odyssey, there’s only one photo of it that was uploaded by a GM engineer on Flickr
In 1977 (I think), Saab made 2 or 3 fully operational "97" hatchbacks based on the 95 wagon, which itself could be traced back to the 92 sedan of the 1940s. It would have been cool to see this make production as it could have stretched that lineage well into the 1980s.
As an R class owner I love having a car no one wanted 😂
The R class is absolutely sick 🔥🔥🔥
@@Tobi-ln9xr thanks! I feel even more special because it’s an R500 with the 5.0l v8
@@Tobi-ln9xrnah
skoda in early 2000s conquered market, so vw was definitely worried that their sub brand would surpass them and they kinda stopped then from developing their own quirky identity. i love early 2000s cars in general because i read about them in magazines when i was i kid. good times. and good video as usual
There is also the GM80 program from the 1980s where the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (and an Oldsmobile cousin) almost went FWD. Fully finished prototypes were built and were nearly done with testing, and only 18 months away from production.
About that Skoda from the intro - it was just rebadged VW Caddy and nothing from the original roomster was left.
The Peugeot 308 R was tested by press and preproduction models were built but production was cancelled last minute...
I love the narration and the humor splashed throughout the video! Very well done
Man, sad that Saab 9-5NG (and the 9-3NG 3rd gen Phoenix version) never made it into long term production, let alone the hatchback variant, which probably my favourite variant as it reminiscing to the 900/9000 models, and love it's odd liftback design.
Other models that i'm sad that never made into production:
- Range Rover Vogue 2 Door (same goes for any 2-door SUVs)
- Hyundai R-class like model (I like the R-Class at it looked like MPV/Wagon instead of Popular Crossover)
- Ford Taurus 1st gen with conventional grill
- Dodge Calibre (Lancer based instead of the crossover)
Amazing video, keep going please, you are doing a great job!
This is my new favourite channel, I love your editing style
The van at the end looked weird because it had a big body (probably really isn’t) but the wheelbase made it look odd since they look small
I don't get how the Flavia got negative sales figures???
They sold 4 units in its final year
sounds about right, we have a Chrysler version in the us and nobody bought them
@@ridgelineenjoyer1517 Still makes no sense....?
I would love to add the TaMo RaceMo (Tata Motors' first sports car) to this list! It was an exciting development, but sadly got the axe.
Best new channel fr, I love these weird interesting car stories that aren’t often told.
I got to experience this first hand, in 2019 i was working for a company manufacturing seats for JLR, when they announced production of a 3-door luxury Range Rover SV Coupe, with only 1000 to be produced. We've built some prototype and pre-production seats for the cars, but after 6 sets or so, the project got cancelled, and i don't know what happened with those seats we've made.
my new favourite youtube channel :) keep up the work
as for cancelled cars - what happened to the DeTomaso SLC from 2012? brand rebooted with suv-coupe model, got 1 450 orders from people, and nothing since that, no production started
I couldn’t find anything on what happened to the slc, but I do know that DeTomaso got a second revival, and it’s making more traditional supercars now. The P72 is supposed to go into production in the tail end of this year, although I doubt it’ll happen
@@IanBRacing neat, didnt knew about this
Why isn't anyone talking about the Volkswagen Bluesport and their Audi (R4) and Porsche (55One) counterparts?
5:22 that part is so sad 😭 30 minutes until it got destroyed
You'll be pleasantly surprised when you watch my previous video
@@corsicar_ I noticed it, just a little bit too late. ;)
The Saab 9-3 also had some wagon pre-production models, some of which actually did manage to get registered for the road and into people's ownership
Wdym Saab 93 wagons were mass produced? you mean 95 wagon?
@@pizzasquirrel65 yea
They made the 9-3 Sportcombi from 2006 until 2011... thousands of them produced. There were 37 9-5NG Sportcombis produced, of which 27 stille xist with 24 being "roadworthy"... no true number for total that are registered, but they all are in Europe. I've been on the look for one to import for a decade now. Have seen a custom one made from a 9-5 and an Opel Insignia SportsTourer.
I once saw a coupe SS Tahoe from the previous generation that came with a 454 and a little shorter wheelbase than that which should be pretty decent off road; it has been my dream car ever since
Also the electric XJ. It was fully designed and ready to be showcased, they even teased its taillights. Was cancelled a few months before reveal
ok just realized it was mentioned in the previous video haha
I... Need... More... Corsicar...
Keep up the great work man! Fav car youtuber currently
Man your channel is fantastic. Thanks for the amazing videos. Love your presentation style
A pretty famous one is the 5 or so new Lotus models revealed around 2010, none of which made it to production. It included an entirely new styling language, a new Elan, Esprit, Elise, GT 2+2 and four door GT - as well as at a later time an independent concept, the Ethos, which was a city car that also had that styling language.
man im loving the videos this channel is putting out
Finally a new video worth the wait as always
This channel is very promising! Keep up the good work! 😃
I actually own one of those Dodge RamChargers from mexico. Mines a 2001, and i live in Canada. I had it imported last year. Cool little truck. Gets all kinds of attention.
Pontiac g8 “truck” is a Holden commodore Ute in Australia
With content like these last few uploads, this channel will have 100k+ subs in a few months
5:30 man i would have loved the 2 door SUV. my 1st vehicle was a 94 blazer 4 door.
Screw them for it
Aw yeah a corsicar video
chery has gajillion of unreleased cars, starting by the B13, the Higgo pickup, the Tiggo6, the M14 cabrio, the A6CC (and the A6 by itself), a flagship sedan that supposedly would've been powered by a V8 (or V12?) engine, some stuff on the QQ and Eastar platforms, etc etc etc
your youtube channel is sooooo underrated :D
In México, the silverado 2 door suv actually came to production as the Dodge Ram charger. But was the previous generation than the showed up in the video.
Babe wake up, Corsicar uploaded
Yo the hatchback passat is nice
I want that 2 door Tahoe
In the end of 90's Daewoo was planning a f segment car called "Shiraz" or P-100. Design was commissioned at Worthing technical center(Wtc) and almost reach to launch, but both car project was failed to launch. 😔
Corsicar back with another banger 🗣️🗣️

5:48 that's a liftback and not a hatchback, it looks like a sedan but has a hatchback trunk, therefore it's a liftback, great vid btw
