  • It’s the first comparison test of the Citroen C5 Aircross with the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson. Launched this year the C5 is Citroen’s brand shaper for India and its focus is on comfort. But how does it compare with the Jeep Compass that has just been updated for 2021 and also gets 4x4 with low-ratio on the 9-speed automatic gearbox on the diesel engine. The Tucson also gets AWD and how does it compared with the FWD-only Citroen? And how to the three compare on prices? Watch out comparison video to find out

    Dislikes: NVH levels, space, gearbox.

Overall judgement, declaring Tucson as a winner is surprising,
But I’m more surprised you consistently kept saying Tucson has best ride and handling. I’ve driven my friend’s Tucson extensively and I don’t think it’s handling can compete anywhere with a Compass.
Be it steering feel, handling or feeling of confidence and stability. It felt like an elder Creta at best. Also the way the Compass hammers potholes and doesn’t get undeterred by bad and smooth surfaces is something else.
I’ve followed you closely through all these years and I know Jetta is one of your favourite Vw cars. I’ve changed from Jetta to Compass over the past one year can clearly say it has better ride / steering than Jetta. Tucson is nowhere in the picture even. Even Tiguan didn’t feel as good, reason why I plumbed for Compass over Tiguan.
I thought you will be crowning Citroen for ride comfort over Compass but this is really surprising and personally I don’t agree.
Compass has a terrible gearbox and poor performance and space is lesser but I don’t see it lagging anywhere else
Not to offend any Tucson owners or fans, it’s a great car but saying it has superior ride / handling is not on. Sorry Sirish, I have lot of regards and respect for your work but I think you are mistaken here.

Yes that is completely true but in normal driving conditions, the compass mostly starts from the 2nd gear itself so the 1st gear is still fairly low ratio, the compass obviously doesn't have a low ratio transfer case but this sort of crawler gear still is useful in some situations.

Chuck out these cars, the Jeep and Tucson. Get into the C5 once and you are sold. What makes you tired in journey is the movement and NVH. The C 5 nails this. The drive mode are unreal, no one talks about it. Sports is about the same in other cars at what it does, holds the gear in longer. The difference is in Eco and Normal. The C 5 just coasts in Eco and not just at high speeds , at any speed till you tell the car you need engine braking. When it coasts its surreal, equivalent to an electric car. The toughest of rumble strips just go unnoticed. The heft in the door is amazing, at the same time you don’t have to close them too hard. The auto-park is really practical. We parked the car in a very very tight parallel parking and it parked like a legend. The crispy graphics on the C5. The passive entry, hold the door handle and it receives you, tap on the sensor and it closes. There is difference in this mechanism and the other ones. Most importantly it doesn’t show tyre pressure and temperature, i hate to support my OCD and keep checking why one tyre has one PSI less and one degree more. If the PSI drops too fast it will tell you , so its much better. The boot is just unbeatable in the C 5 the gestures work and its not too slow at closing. The heating in the mirrors works, especially in heavy rains. The one thing I personally loved is the new car smell in this car. Completely different, cant put it in words. I attached a musk perfume and right away turned it off. The only thing i crave more in this is they should activate the radar guided features and dash cam, its right there but we cannot use it.

Compass has lot of safety oriented features which are not usually seen in this segment. However, even tuscon is 5 star rated so it won't be unsafe by any standards

@@pratapfeelinggood Definitely people are buying more Jeep Compass than Tucson on average 750 units/month. Only other product from jeep is Wrangler which may be selling in single digits. Same problem with citron, last month sales 40 units difficult to sustain. So cost of ownership will go up. This SUV has best of both the worlds, German engineering (R&D of Tucson took place in Germany only) and reliability+wide service network of Hyundai which its other rivals can only dream of. Also it provides upto 5 years warranty and 3 years complimentary maintenance. Being a CKD is another plus. Finally booked the Starry Night Tucson Diesel automatic 2WD today after almost confirming the Jeep Compass Diesel 4WD. Although the interior of the Compass was way better, I felt Tucson drives better in highways. Specially the 8 speed automatic is a gem of a gearbox whereas the 9 speed one in Compass felt a bit lazy (but definitely not a deal breaker). However what swayed the decision in favor of Tucson was the rear seat comfort and variant wise the Tucson GLS has many more useful features than the Limited Option of Compass and that too after being cheaper by 1.5 lakhs. However the S model of Compass had all those features plus some more but it was out of my budget.

I've done plenty of 2-3k kms in my 2019 (manual) compass. We find it quite comfortable honestly, more compared to the milage champions like Innova. The ride quality is brilliant, the pitching/rolling/bouncing is almost non existent, which makes a lot of difference at the end of 600-700 kms day.
It's also a lot of fun on the hills, saying this after having driven multiple sedans and hatches like polo, punto and linea. The body roll is next to nil and it climbs hills and darts through corners like its nobody's business.
Only nitpicking I could do is, though well build it's nowhere close to VW category in terms of paint quality and finish, some of which is sorted in this new update. Also boot space is pathetic, almost non existent.

Bro i have purchased compass a month ago but im facing problem with suspension. The ride quality at lower speeds is very bad. on small potholes it almost shakes the person. Did you face the same problem??? I have already lowered the tyre pressure but that didnt help much. But at high speeds it glides over potholes without any problem

I'm not impressed with the car till the speed of 40kmph... since the 9speed AT gearbox is very lazy...
But once it crosses 40-50 kmph... its buttery smooth & amazing to drive...
Specially the suspension & handling...its amazing at high speed...
Fuel efficiency and space is poor and also has some fit & finish issue... maintenance is on a higher side... not at all a city car in traffic but seriously great at highways...
On road price is also a bit on a higher side compared with the competition...

C5- not VFM. Very heavily priced. But after Shirish lot of really well comments on this review we can see few C5 in our city soon. But it’s Rejected.
Tucson- good VFM and more spacious in the segment but no wide variants availability and CKD (parts availability???) rises questions on customers makes it fail.
Jeep - wide variants and if we compare with Tucson top variant is equal to limited variant of jeep. So from that point Tucson is a Lakh more than compass. Compass is made in india and 4x4 are the plus. But lack of service centres and dealership.
Verdict- Jeep is more premium and more safety features and wider variants and 4X4. For 4 person travelling. It’s a best pick. If we don’t need 4x4 still have option cheaper than Tucson.
