Been an artist for 40 years - I use both natural and digital media - have to agree, the materials in this Rebelle version feels the most natural I've ever experienced in a software program - Try the free trial even if u just try out the ink pens and pencils - so natural... Excellent update and rework!
21:16 This indeed. I've never felt that digital painting is so close to traditional painting, pencil drawing, watercolor painting and various realistic papers. Even though I'm a big fan of traditional painting, it's so fun to paint with Reb7. Thanks much for all Escape Motions developers.
This feels like a big update to me. Your improving core features of the app, (namely the base painting and drawing by reworking how the tools interact with papers - and using cutting edge gpu tech!), PLUS, adding features to the brush engine - to me, says tons. In addition, adding tried and true digital art features like adjustment layers and more basic rulers, all come together to make this update a no-brainer for me. Kudos and can't wait to see what else is coming.
Thank you so much for doing these introductions to the releases! I was in the beta program and was just able to touch on some of the special features, but you were able to bring to life for the features that I didn't get a chance to fully investigate. Now, it they'd just bring it to the iPad!
Hi I'm a novice painter being using Corel Painter since 2019, about two months ago I came across this video and I gave it a try, as soon as I tried it I paid for it, it's so much easier to paint though I have a lot to learn, Rebelle has given me the simple ways of creating art, the rendering comes naturally like if I being drawing for a long time, thank you.
Seeing as I love traditional sketching on paper but can't live without digital drawing features like undo, Rebelle is a godsend that coincides the best of both worlds. Looking forward for this software to blow up because by God the sorcery behind these features is just mindblowing. Definitely putting CSP on the backseat now and sticking with Escape Motions products for life
@escapemotions : Congratulations on the release, can't wait to try it out!! At a certain juncture, it's crucial to strike a delicate balance between software features and avoiding an overwhelming experience for artists. An excess of tools and complexity might lead to intimidation, cluttered UI, and unnecessary complication. This is just a suggestion for consideration.
Thank you for your feedback, we try to keep the UI as clean as possible, but with additional features, there is a need for more buttons. You can always customize it to your needs and save that layout.
Check for these if your metallics aren't working: Make sure you pick the right brush. Seems to be oils only. And they all vary heavily. I used more Loading and less Oiliness. Toggle the diamond on your current layer. And in the visual settings window -- canvas visibilty - toggle NanoPixel and you should be good to go
OMG Rebelle is the first art software that I actually purchased and I think it will be the last. Now Escape Motions does have lots of useful art software but I would say that Rebelle is their magnum opus.
Great video for whetting the appetite and giving a sense of the incredible work the Escape Motions team have done here. The V7 updates really give the feel of a real organic type painting experience that is you say, fun! The responsiveness on Apple silicon is impressive. V6 was great but V7 is most definitely worth the upgrade. Keep these great, bite sized videos coming -always good ! :)
I've just downloaded Rebelle 7 and I've cocked up by accidentally deleting the metalics library whilst exploring how to find my way around. Please can you help? I've tried three times to download the program again but each time, upon opoening the metalics library it's still empty.
I have a few other questions. Lets say I want to have an art printed on a canvas, should I work on a canvas inside the Rebelle too to get the appropriate texture of the brushes? I'm assuming I do but when I send the file to print, should I keep the textured canvas on inside the file or not?
If you pre-ordered, then it should be available in your account for download. If this is not the case, please send us an email to support@escapemotions.com
Hi! There is something I'd love to request: Would be possible to have a separate "Dry Layer" that allows for the pigment to still settle? I sometimes want that effect of settling pigment but don't want the water to be moving around... Hope I have explained well!
Hello, thank you for the amazing tutorial! I am trying to work with a structure but most of the brushes are not working with it, none of the metallic brushes are. Is there something I am doing wrong? Also is there an easy way to transfer brushes from Rebelle 6? Thank you!
Hi, please update to the latest Rebelle 7.0.3 through your Community > Purchases. If the issue with brushes persists, please let us know at support@escapemotions.com And yes, there is an easy way how to transfer brushes: You can easily copy your custom assets like color sets, brushes and stencils from the Rebelle 6 user folder to the Rebelle 7 user folder, inside their respective folders. Go to: Rebelle's top menu: Help > Show Library folder... Close the software before making any changes in that folder.
How can I update Rebelle to a newer version? I saw that a few small patches were out. In the program, I couldn't find a menu item under help with updates. Is it perhaps somewhere else? I didn't find any individual patches on your site, I was only able to download the entire program.
Log into your Community account on our website and go to My Account > Purchases. You can download Rebelle updates from there - a new 7.0.5 was just released.
@@davidbernal8881 I just checked my account and it's there as well. I was waiting for an email from Rebelle. They emailed me twice since I preordered to say that it was coming but when it finally was available, I didn't get an email.
Could I download previous versions of Rebelle by purchasing Rebelle 7? I have a PC that is not compatible and another that is? Or can you buy older versions of Rebelle?
We do not provide older versions with a new purchase. However, if you have a compatibility issue, please contact us via email at support@escapemotions.com
the paper textures and metallic gold texture is such a great idea. the problem I was experiencing was that when I used real metallic paint and took a photo, a lot of the details were lost because cameras flatten the texture to be less impressive than what the naked eye can see. However, this software fixes that problem - now we can see metallic textures in full HD quality details. Well done, Such a great idea. But the question is... do you include Papyrus or washi paper, and do any of the ink brushes look similar to woodblock ink texture?
Thank you for your words! Yes, one Washi paper is included in Rebelle and we have a great selection of extra Washi sets on our website: www.escapemotions.com/products/rebelle/papers/list Have you found the brush you were looking for? If not, we will shortly add Brush Creator tutorials that will help you create what you need.
At the moment the desktop versions of the software are compatible with Windows and macOS only. We plan to release an iOS version of Rebelle in the future, however, do not have a specific timeframe for that yet.
I don't understand how to use the metallic materials. They don't appear shiny at all on my canvas even with shine set all the way up, and there's also no actual paint texture at all, it's just flat like typical digital brushes. I don't have that thick impasto effect. What am I doing wrong?
The trial download doesn't work for me. I tried last month, also. I'm still having the issue saying "an error occurred while trying to rename a file in the destination directory. MoveFile failed; code 5. Access is denied". I'm getting this on the 000Uninst and multiple .dll files. Any thoughts / suggestions on how I get around this?
Hi, if you are still experiencing trouble downloading the Trial version, please contact us at support@escapemotions.com . Please send us a screenshot of the error and the website URL where you are downloading from. We will take a look at your case specifically.
this mostly depends on printer. Printers generally have different gamut and different mixing. Monitor has additive and printer subtractive mixing. That means most brightest spot on paper is that one, that is empty - clean paper. On other hand on monitor brightest spot is white from backscreen/lightning of lcd/oled.
Your version shows what I think is a "copy/duplicate" button on the bottom right of layers panel ... my version doesn't have that? ... or i can't find, looked in preferences ... an idea why?
The "Duplicate Layer" button is not included in the final version, however, you can duplicate a layer using a right-click on the layer and selecting from the menu there.
Even though we do not offer Rebelle for iPad, many of Rebelle users use the iPad with Rebelle - they connect it as a tablet device to their computers. hello, I could not post in suggestion for some reason ( I only have create topic option and when I click on it nothing happens) I wanted to suggest to add impasto option in some oil pastel brushes to simulate real oil pastel. Sometime you can even cut and past oil pastel with palette knife and add 3dimensionality to an oil pastel art.
Ignore my previous cry for help as I have solved the problem by finding the colours folder and deleting it. On reopening the program all things have been restored to the default settings including the Metalics in the newly restored colours folder.
Why can't I get the metallics to look like metallics as in your demo. I have a metallic layer chosen but the strokes look just like ordinary paint. What am I doing wrong?
Metallics work only with Oils & Acrylics. Please make sure you are using one of the brushes of that tool. There is also a metallic color palette available.

Great program, fast and powerful but it still lacks on the move tool so you still need to transform a seletcion instead to move it. For a professional this is a waste of time and in 12 to 18 hours of daily work is really important. This was the reason I leaved the 5 version for another app. I hope you can add this fundamental and basic tool, guys. I suggest also to permit us to have a free positioning of the palette instead a column, instead of running into the "flying" palettes that are used by making the top bar pop up as if it were a new window, if you are not in full screen (which if activated does not make you use any options at the top, at least on Windows and with Wacon Cintiq 24 pro). This would help us a lot!
