I saw Barry open for Earth, Wind, and Fire about 24 years ago. It was a concert that I will never forget. He was as good live as the video. He was also charming and funny. In those days, just Barry on the jukebox was enough to bring a place to their feet and jam a dance floor. Amazing talent.
Barry single-handedly is responsible for at least 50 percent of the births in the 70s. At least.
I've heard that said a few times before and I gotta agree, '79 was a good year with this song loll, hope you have a good one!
He was a record producer! Greatest make-out singer for guys back then. This was during the Disco era, but he also sang slower, very sexy hits, too My favorite of his was the pre-disco 70s hit, "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up"
"Don't try to be someone else's voice." Words of wisdom.
Do more Barry, please. I’m here for this Beth.
If you are talking famous bass singers, you need to include Isaac Hayes...best known for his Shaft soundtrack and the voice of Chef on Southpark.
_Black Moses_ would be my pick.
Hayes was also "The Duke of New York" in the film Escape From New York!
Lou Rawls is another deep baritone singer. Best known for “You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine”.
and "Lady Love"
Indeed! He had one of the best! Would also add the incomparable Brook Benton, who was best known for "A Rainy Night In Georgia". Beautiful baritone that was smooth as Tennessee whiskey! 🥰
Definately some Lou Rawls!
I'm agree it's a great song that I can remember in my childhood . I share the link if Beth decide analyze the voice.

Great Reaction Beth! You can't go wrong with Barry White! Him Isaac Hayes and Larry Graham are some great bass singers. Also recommend Lou Rawls, who may not actually be a bass singer, but has one of the smoothest voices ever. Happy Wednesday!
Beat me to it with Lou Rawls. I would recommend "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" or "Lady Love". But that is just a couple of suggestions from his hits.
And the amazing Brook Benton!
@@earth2kosmickitty Yes!
Love him.. listening to him is such a joy, one of my absolute favourites from the 70s. He sang some of the sexiest love songs ever!
Well..'Can't get enough of your love, Babe' was the first dance wedding song for a lot of us boomers...that's how much we appreciated Barry White. So many great songs. .many of which he wrote or co-wrote. Bass singers as solo artists aren't that common..which makes me love his singing even more. Nice pick.

A legend, 1974 I was in fort Polk Louisiana that all u heard on the radio, and juke box in Em clubs. lot of memories
I love the Southern twang on "my ev'ry-thang." @2:53 @6:33
I would think that Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers would qualify for this category particularly on their song, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". As far as expressiveness goes, some people such as the Scots are lucky enough to have it built into their voices...
A man once called, "The Walrus of Love". All voices may be beautiful, but ladies loved his baritone best of all.
Hi Beth Roars! "All voice types are beautiful," what an excellent way to begin to hone ones' vocal abilities :D
One of the greatest songs of all time
Barrys voice was like a drug. When u hear it, you just want more! Like a lovely warm bath. It envelopes you in such a way you become lost in it. ❤❤❤❤
Diana Ankudinova would have a field day reinterpreting these Barry White classics 😂
Or even Shirley Bassey 😉 she already did Nina Simone and Louis…
A great voice. I grew up listening to my dad singing the songs of Paul Robeson, The Bass singer among bass singers, no-one else could sing that low. The songs still move me now. "Old Man River" "Wearying for you" "Lazy Bones".
That man was a phenomenon! Love his songs
Great reaction, Beth!❤
Greetings from Argentina
Damn you, and the people who asked for this. The minute the song started i had to pause it and look up John Cage (Ally McBeal) dancing to Barry White compilation, and especially the part where Barry White performs this song in the series. Reliving those moments where glorious, but now i have to rewatch the entire series. I miss Ally McBeal quality TV-series.
He was the one and only. Bass voice, definetly(hearing his speaking voice), but he's been singin like a baritone with easily. I'm jeaolus. 😁
Simply, the masterpiece!!❤
Barry White and Isaac Hayes are the best known bass singers in pop/R&B music, but they were primarily active in the 1970s. If you're looking for contemporary bass singers, there's Geoff Castellucci of Voiceplay, and Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix. Both have solo recordings as well as their group material.
Beth, we need you to react Starlight by Oktaf Kanis, thanks!
Yess, and i think it will be amazing 🙌🏻
I'm in love with this song ❤
@@DavidPolish of course 🔥
Uno de los mejores cantantes de los 70.
Song You’re my first, my last my in- between, by Peter Ratcliff
Barry a big man with a big voice .. definitely part of the golden age of Funky disco..
Wow wow wow simplemente me gustó mucho 🆗 bien Beth 👏👏🍀🍀
Hello Beth. Do more Barry White and Geoff Castellucci 🙏❤❤
Geoff has a CRAZY low bass and also an incredible range!
I used to work in a vitamin store that had a brand of FERTILITY PILLS that had a dvd attached to the outside of it...we had no idea what the dvd was...but when someone would ask... we'd tell them it was a Barry White dvd.
My older brother gave me advice for dating . Medium priced wine and berry white when it was time. He whispered it to me like it was a national security secrete. It became a running joke “ got a visit from the C I A last night our info is up to date”
Hey Beth, you could always revisit Peter Steele / Type O Negative if you want some more bass singers outside of the soul and R&B genre. Be My Druidess or The Green Man would be good examples.
The original Barrytone.
Oh Baby.
Yes it is a play back. At that San Remo was like that.
If you're ever on a soul kick, do consider Percy Sledge (most famous for When a Man Loves a Woman) sings a hidden gem titled "I Found a Love"
Something I noticed about Barry, is that his speaking voice was lower than his singing voice. And, I honestly have quite a low voice myself, but it didn’t drop so far down in my early teens. For whatever reason it actually dropped so low in my early twenties.
He purposely sang above his speaking range. By the quality if his sound you can hear that he was belting. This fits the lyrics of the song.
@@friedemannkemm63 I appreciate the information, but, I wasn’t criticizing his performance. I think his vocals sound just fine here, as they did on all the tunes he sang during his career.
@@matthewgoodA1206 I didn't intend to criticize him. Belting is a well accepted technique that, by the way, is not easy to achieve.
@@friedemannkemm63 You’ve misread a lot of what I wrote. I had thought that you viewed me as criticizing his vocals, so I tried to clear up that misconception, that I am not. And not once did I imply that you were critical of him. However, just for the record, I have over time learned how to belt as I’ve gotten to know my own voice better. It’s been a slow process, but I am untrained and have to make my own breakthroughs.
Weird request I know but would you be interested in reacting to tv shows like Masked singer to see how other people singing certain songs compares with the original, cos i think that would be really cool
Brad Roberts from Crash Test Dummies has a very low voice too. 🙂
Type-o-negative, Peter Steele , super deep Bass voice
If you want to hear a deep voice , Aussie indigenous artist Emma Donovan ‘ The Virgin Mary Had One Son’ is amazing. Beth you would love this. Love your Wicked Game, hauntingly beautiful.
You would melt if you heard The Secret Garden from Quincy Jones Back on the Block album .Barry White,Al B Sure .El DeBarge and James Ingram on the same song sone of the most iconic voices of the day
They say that nobody could put together a song faster than Barry.
Scott Walker, brilliant bass singer. And white.
I'm not sure if he's a bass singer but he also has low and deep voice, check out Joe Romersa. I love his work with Silent Hill (the game) :)
Hi Beth I’m a huge fan!But if you want to hear more Bass Singers look up Melvin Franklin from The Temptations “Ol’ Man River”. It’s the richest and deepest bass you’ll ever hear! I would love to hear your insights!
Bases rule. Gotta hold that line in any choir. My director used to say sopranos were a dime a dozen lol
I'm odd, I'm a big guy, 6'4" and stocky, but I've always had a really high singing voice. Not anymore, as I've gotten older I've lost a lot of my upper register. I don't mind, I don't sing in public anymore.
I love Barry White. :)
I love the saying, if you put on Barry and she is still not in the mood, it's not Barry's fault.
3:25 'Everything' is an F on the line in the bass clef or 3 lines down in the treble clef.
Beth you have to mention how many great interpreters sing around the beat the accompaniment remains steady whilst the Soloist pushes and pulls their time eg 'Ol blue Eyes!
They didn't call him the ' Walrus of Love ' for nothing hahaha !
actually barry had a barretone that only three men on earth could match.
Hi please react to barry white love ain't easy thi is a masterpiece
Hi Beth,
Some Supertramp please 👍👍
I believe I'm a bass baritone, low voices are not often nowadays, why?
Johnny Hartman. I’m not sure if he’s a bass or a baritone. He made a great album with John Coltrane.
I can't listen to this song without picturing Peter MacNicol pretending to be Barry White!
Lisa Gerrard is no bass, but can get to pretty low ranges in songs like 'Persephone' and 'Sacrifice'. :)
ISAAC HAYES!!!!!
also, thanks for reminder of LIFE LESSON! Indeed, it is when we are at our Lowest that we can attainour BEST in life---- This occurred for me in 1984. Apostle Paul says 'when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12.10); having to depend totally on the LORD-----
Brook Benton?
You want low voice try Eric Holloway
While he isn't a Bass, Elvis Presley is actually quite a low Baritone. And even when he is singing higher the resonance is low (albeit not as low as Barry).
I swear my wife got pregnant just listening to this song.
There ARENreal live performances of him with this track, so why choose this semi playback edit if it’s about his singing style?
Check out Josh Turner
To be your man.
You’ll get the shivers.
How about a great baritone, like Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops. Not Samuel Ramey, but a great passionate singer anyway.
Check out
The Crash Test Dummies
The song
MMMMMMMM...
Hmmm you keep referring to Barry White's size 😉 🤔 😆
BURN FOR YOU - John Farnham ..... please.......
Anyone? Ally McBeal in the restroom vibes?:):):)
He's got a live mic but he's lip syncing to the record. This may not have been his choice but it was standard on TV back then.
One of the lowest, and I mean LOWEST, bass voices I've heard in modern music is Geoff Castellucci from the band VoicePlay. From his wiki, his range is almost 4 octaves ( C♯1 - A5), excluding his falsetto.
Playback on the music, but not his vocals. I did some of these shows in Italy and Germany in the 70s, early 80s and it was usually the German TV that wanted you to lip sync and the Italian TV you to sing live with a backing track. Not sure if that is what is happening here, but that's my experience
Most of us bass have learned not to sing melody
This guy is singlehandedly responsible for the Earth's population explosion.
That voice seduced more women than any other
How many chick flicks have used this song lol.
He probably was the lowest belter in the history of music.
Too bad that bass singers are a rarity in pop music.
he had a live mike but he is totally lip synching that.... 🙄😒
She butts in at the most inappropriate times
Shhhh girl. Let the music play
