@@MetalPersonJ And Phil Collins didn't seem to have much issues with it either, and probably only moved front and replaced himself as drummer because Genesis became more of a "pop band" which have a singer front man.
@@MetalPersonJ it is! out of all basic band instruments the drums are well known to be the hardest to combine with singing. And it has multiple reasons; drums are more physical demanding, which causes different breathing and thereby your constanly moving to drum. But of course everything can be learned by lots practicing, like Levon ;)

The Eagles have been one of my favorite bands since first hearing this song in 1976. When they broke up in the early 80's after the Long Run album, I never thought I'd see them again , but their music has always been on my playlist. But then in 1994 they reconnected, and launched the Hell Freezes Over tour with the first concert being here in Honolulu, Hawaii , at Aloha Stadium. Needless to say, I was at field level directly in front of the stage. The lights came up, revealing Henley on the drums, and Felder, Frey, Walsh, & Schmidt, perched on tall stools at the front of the stage. They launched into a long intro building up to this song. It was epic,......stunningly great. I agree with you completely......they play with precision but in a way that flows freely. Their vocal dynamics and harmonies only add to a sound that is very pleasing to the ear. BTW....loved your perspectives on their musicianship. It's gratifying to see young people who appreciate great music from my generation.

@@permaquilter9111 Yes I believe that was true.Although Randy was playing a Tele with Don and Joe playing lead there was no need for help there.Tim was obviously playing bass.Bernie was just along for the ride.
They had four members who could take lead vocals, with the first-call singer on drums. and peerless four-part harmonies. Three could take lead guitar if called on, with one also a fine keyboardist. Talk about depth! And the songs! Literally dozens of undisputed classics which still sound fresh and defined 70s west-coast country rock. America's true answer to the Beatles, and unlike them, they could deliver it note for note on stage, which existing sound technology never allowed the Fabs to do. Even the 15-year hiatus barely made a dent in their stature and reputation. Nice to see you enjoying yourself so much, Beth. Keep 'em coming.
What blows me away is the fact that Glenn and co. use two 12 string guitars and Joe fills the harmony on a six string during the intro. All done precisely and perfectly. Wow! I saw them do this live a couple times. It is amazing listening when it is recorded. It is staggering to listen to this song, as well as their others, live! BTW, Beth, tell us - did you enjoy the song? Rest peacefully, Glenn.

What's most unique about the Eagles is that the drummer is doing the primary lead vocals. You'll hear occasionally drummers provide additional BG, but not often at all the lead. They all took occasional leads in their songs, but Henley and Frye took the most. Of course both of them were there even back when the Burritos were Flyin'.
Phil Collins was drummer/lead singer of Genesis. Karen Carpenter from the Carpenters was also drummer/lead vocals. Yes it is a brilliant talent and very difficult, but definitely not unique.
@sibertiger1970 You named two plus the one from the Eagles. That's three, out of how many bands? Literally thousands. Have produced songs on the charts with only a tiny fraction of a small percentage of a minute minority having the drummer as the primary lead singer. As I said, it is more common to have them occasionally featured or provide background vocals, but just that small number where they are the main person singing with great frequency. That makes it rare. Even Phil Collins, during an interview on BBC, noted that it was a rare thing, quite unique and extremely uncommon were the phrases he used. If Phil thought it was unique, it was unique. Contrary to popular opinion, unique doesn't mean "only one exists", it means "an oddity beyond normal contrast or conditions." That would describe the situation regarding drummers that sing lead as the principal frontperson. By the way, I already knew about Phil Collins and Karen Carpenter already, but thanks for calling me stupid. I will be 66 in August. Both Phil and Karen fall in my principal musical formative years.
The Eagles had a lot of music with harmonies. They were solid with them. TIGHT!!!!! Darn good guitars also!!!!!!! No time for my SAD story... Back in 1976 my cousins from Ohio came down with tickets in Pittsburgh for the Eagles. I was scheduled to work that Saturday. SO I miss it --- DAMN!!!!!
CHILLS, Beth, THANK YOU!!! Somewhat Sad, for those today, who were not able to experience, this time (60's 70's and early 80's) in Music History! Thank God, we just HAVE the VIDEO!!! Those Vocal Harmonies, from Men, no less. Angelic. Oh, that Don Felder Guitar Solo, and Joe Walsh Dualing guitars, Just WOW! GREAT INTEPRETATION!
I loved the album, One Of These Nights, but the first time I heard Hotel California on the radio in Dallas, I ran to the nearest music store and bought it. I had a really good Yamaha hi-fi system, mood lights and bean bag. I was set and this album was and is still fantastic.
Henley and Frey were good musicians and great song writers. Walsh was a good songwriter and great musician. Timothy B. Schmidt filled out the harmonies wonderfully. But Don Felder was the man that made it all magic.
Yeah, Schmidt was only on The Long Run, the last album of their 70s era. Prior to that it was Randy Meisner. So on this song, from the album you’re praising Meisner.
You forgot about Randy Meisner . Timothy was only on the band for the long run during their original run. Their harmonies which much better with Meisner in the band . The 77 tour was the peak. Randy's voice was quite high but it was also fuller and warmer then Timothy's. One of these nights was probably the best example of their harmonies.. witchy women was really good as well . Randy Meisnet probably had the best all round singing voices in the band. Take to the limit was an insane vocal performance.
I remember as an older teen driving down the highway late at night listening to this song on a classic rock radio station, while my friends were raving on about Madonna, Tears for Fears, Aha, Phill Collins, et al. So many pop synth ballads were emerging and I thought to myself, you know, "the guitar" is a pretty cool and precise instrument that can really sing and sometimes cries its melody. Awesome.
Kansas City, Eagles Hell Freezes Over tour. Torrential rain, audience hunkered down wondering how show can happen in this weather. So dark, so dreary. Can't dee the outdoor stage. Then a lightening of the rain to a drizzle to a stop. Moments later a sudden crash of lightning over head to the flash of the concert lights and the first cord of Hotel California. Devine intervention. The breath left your body! It was orgasmic! Never lad a comparable experience in 60 years of concerts.
My goodness your an Irish beauty Beth . Your love for the music radiates through you and makes your eyes twinkle . 🙂 it reminds me of me dear mom who gave me the songs and danced , sang , laughed and encouraged me to sing from. My heart . Thanks hun.
I could never get into rock and pop, I gravitated straight to metal in music, but this song is one of those rare pop rock beauties that grabbed me from the very first listen and I still adore it to this day. Beth's so right, every moment from verse to chorus and solo is absolute perfection 🙂
I have been a fan of the Eagles for a long time. When I saw them live in 2014 I was blown away! They did Take it to the Limit with 7 or 8 guitars in harmony, I was awestruck! Never been to a concert like it since.
Beth, I totally agree with you. It's always impressive how they pay attention to the small details, make it sound perfect and, at the same time, emotional.
Good reaction. One of the greatest bands in the world with my favorite song. Love it. My favorite guitar solo (duo) of all time. Going to see them live next year. Thank you for this reaction.
The Supergroup in reverse, instead of just talent from a bunch of groups coming together, you got a bunch that ended up having solo hits after the group. Four of them have solo hits under their names, Henley, Frey, Walsh(pre and post Eagles) and even Felder(title track of the best animated movie for adults ever, IMHO).
Not many know this, but it was originally a Steve Young song. Kinda like All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan. Both original versions became overshadowed by the legends who covered it!
Totally agree! :-) Try out Home Free's version (all a Capella) of that song for a great contemporary cover. Harmonies you won't believe, and talent to the point of absurdity, the beat boxer is beyond belief, try his live 'drum solo' . If you didn't live the 70s, and aren't familiar with all the bands, try some Doobie Brothers, Kansas, Eagles, and Styx, a few others with great harmonizing that come immediately to mind.
Your explanations are spot on! Although the entire song/music is perfect, that last note at the ending is spectacular! Every note stops with the last drum beat. What timing. Thank you.
I love everything about this song. But that bass line is freaking amazing. You pay atention one time and you never hear the song the same way again. And is so simple and easy.
I really enjoyed your reaction. The Eagles are one of the finest bands that's ever been, and I appreciated the fact that you acknowledged the sheer musicianship of each of the members. With that in mind, I think that you would really enjoy listening to Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh (the guitarist dressed in the "brick" suit) in this video. Joe is a bit offbeat, but an unbelievable talent who happens to be one of the best blues/slide guitar players. Glen Frey once described Joe as "an interesting bunch of guys." Give him a listen... I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Great job, Beth! Your observation about the difficulty of Don's vocal variability while maintaining percussion precision was spot on. And the unity of the whole group in demonstrating the self-control and personal humility to together construct this masterpiece is impressive. That's why they is them! BTW, It's been a year since you've listened to Angelina Jordan (unless you're doing it offline). Anyways she has since covered Adele's new song, Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", and two songs of her own "Million Miles" (bring tissues), and 7th Heaven amongst other notable work. Please react to her again.
My wife & I had the honor of seeing them in concert at the United Center in Chicago some years back. This was before the untimely death of Glen Frey. I mentioned to my wife that they were so spot-on, so perfect in every detail, that I could close my eyes and hear EXACTLY what the album cut sounded like. They were phenomenal!!

Henley and Frey were good musicians and great song writers. Walsh was a good songwriter and great musician. Timothy B. Schmidt filled out the harmonies wonderfully. But Don Felder was the man that made it all magic.
If we're honest, all of them could have had some good solo careers in some fashion, but together, they are legendary.
There always seemed to be something missing after Felder left. You can't just dump someone with that much talent and not lose something.
@@michaeldmcgee4499 That's probably why he was chased out of the band. Frey and Henley considered him competition and couldn't handle it.
"So simple, so perfect!" Nothing more, nothing less.
So good to see All of thwm together again in this performance..Joe seems to be feeling it as always.❤
I bet they all can juggle too... too much talent! Got to love them! :)
So enjoyable seeing someone your age appreciating this music. Thank you.
This girl is absolutely stunning!! Love me a red head.
Awesome.
Crosby Stills and Nash and Crosby Stills Nash and Young have great harmonies.
My heart . Thanks hun.
You gotta listen to Seven Bridges Road Beth.Beautiful harmonizing acapellas!!!
So good to see Don Felder, the magic behind the music.
what I live about their music most is that its tells a story that you can follow in your mind.
I could never get into rock and pop, I gravitated straight to metal in music, but this song is one of those rare pop rock beauties that grabbed me from the very first listen and I still adore it to this day. Beth's so right, every moment from verse to chorus and solo is absolute perfection 🙂
One of my top 5 songs of all time
Originally introduced over the phone. Love this song and great to listen to again.
FEEL! Is everything in music! Make em' feel what you feel inside!!!
I love everything about the Eagles but I especially love that they brought in Joe he just gave him that little extra edge
I have been a fan of the Eagles for a long time. When I saw them live in 2014 I was blown away! They did Take it to the Limit with 7 or 8 guitars in harmony, I was awestruck! Never been to a concert like it since.
Exactly eagles plays is like intoxicating and addictive music just with simple chords and notes.
Incredible singing lead while driving the rhythm section behind the kit 👏👏
Beth, I totally agree with you. It's always impressive how they pay attention to the small details, make it sound perfect and, at the same time, emotional.
Oh and let's not forget, the moment everybody realizes that the drummer is also the lead vocalist... Man does that throw people off!
Song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. They’re an amazing group.
I love your technical comments and appreciation!
Best harmonies in rock.
It's one of the few perfect songs. Everything, lyrics, drums, all guitars and all singers was just perfect.
I've heard countless reactions to this performance. Yours is BY FAR the best.
Such a great song❣️ Live versions are special treats.
That performance is legendary.
Seeing them live was an experience like no other. Great pick for a video.
I love Beth, Elizabeth & Julia! They make music so enjoyable and I cherish their reactions. Bravo!
Goosebumps everytime I listen to it...every single time
Do you know 7 Bridges Road by them? It is partially a capella and then the band plays. The harmony is delicious!
Heh, "offbeat"...
It is nice to see young people enjoy the music from my childhood. Thanks for the video.
Gabriel Henrique - I Want to Know What Love is (D7 note).
What a voice! Incredible technique!
Hugs from Brazil!
The live 77 version is the the definitive way to listen to this song. Heck that entire performance really
Please react to her again.
watching you go crazy is itself intoxicating...LOVE YOUR WORK!
Wow. Just a fantastic reaction, Beth. Agree with every point. Thank you.
Beth: Just wanted to say that you are very good at this. Thanks for teaching us.
They were phenomenal!!
your joy is so contagious. lucky are those close to you
Another great reaction! This is why the Eagles are my favorite band
The play with deliberately and with purpose. An iconic song from an amazing group. Totally agree with you, love the Eagles. This is probably the most excited I’ve seen you react to a group.
The genius of joe walsh shoudl never be forgotten....
Can't see this enough. A version I haven't seen in a while. Thanks
...but my All time favourite Ever was Leon Russell live where hegave unknown artists a chance onstage. They were off the charts incredible!
Thanks for your expert analysis and pointing out their artistry and perfect timing of this live performance. You articulated what we heard but didn't know how to express.
The best reaction to all songs of your videos is when you never stop the video and your eyes show us all ;)
When you stop the video an do the talk, the magic is blast like a slap in the soul.... Don´t.
Anyway, thanks for supporting the classics , our heart are on it!! 🥰
ANOTHER legendary band with harmony, and another of my fave bands. Henley has a great voice, love his solo wok too.
I went to go lookup the live video of this to see if you'd react, and your reaction was already one of the first results. So awesome!
