You can hardly find another well known band with a drummer as the lead vocal who also write the songs. I was 17 when this song was released. Now I am 65 and still listening to this legend from Hong Kong.
I agree! That's a rare thing, especially today. Another artist I grew to respect after seeing him in concert was John Denver. Like him or not, he was a gifted artist. He played his songs live with an accuracy you could have played his albums along with. Word for word, note for note.

These guys sound EXACTLY the same live as they do in their recordings! UNBELIEVABLE how AMAZING they sound. One of the greatest rock songs EVER written!
I'm 63 and I've always loved this song. Just watching these amazing guys perform it. It's magical and awesome. I was born in 1960 so I grew listening to these guys plus a few others. But I still say this song takes all. Sorry other performers but your still amazing. It's just this song. I just hope the kids now a days listen to this music mostly this song. I'm gonna call my 25 yrs old song and tell him to hear if he hasn't as already. Everyone who has a heart needs to listen to this song. Everyone enjoy the music 🎵🎵🎵🎵 and have a wonderful day 😊. These guys 💯 pure music 🎶🎶🎶🎶
I turned 62 today. I've seen the Eagles many times. But, the first time I heard this song, I was on Spring Break my freshman year in college. Driving on the beach in Daytona with my closest friend, smoking a joint, top down in his 1970 SS, ocean water lapping up against the wheels, taking in the ocean breeze on a beautiful night. It had just come out and was playing on the radio. I will always remember that night (aren't songs funny that way?). We lost touch over the years (I used to be married to his sister), but every time I hear this song or play it on my guitar, I think about my friend. To me, the line "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave" is how friendships are. No matter how much time and distance or other reasons separates you from people you care about, they are always with you.
Played and sung live, no pitch correction. I was 9 when this song came out, i'm 54 now. If God gives me another 45 years on this earth, i will STILL be in awe of the musicianship and talent on display here.
Perhaps the single greatest guitar solo in all of music. Not just the notes, but the nuances in between the notes at the end of each, played by 2 masters. It's just....the greatest. Thanks Joe and Don.
Sorry, I feel the greatest solo riff was performed by Prince with Tom Petty and others playing "While my Guitar Gently sleeps. For Prince his guitar was just an extension of his body and he literally lived, played and felt every note with every cell of his body. And I am a 70's kid....but Prince was brilliant.
Not many bands sound as good live as they do in the studio, but Eagles were able to take an already perfect song like Hotel California and make it sound even better live. This is one of the best live performances ever and I'm not sure if any band will ever come close to how great Eagles were again.
The live performance was produced by Steve Schreiber, who I used to work with whenever I could get him in NYC. That lean bass sound was one of his trademarks.
I’m 19 and this is my grandads favourite song. My nana died in 2020 of Covid and this was played in her funeral. I listen to this song all the time because it brings back memories of being in the car with them and my cousins when I was younger. Will forever be my favourite song
first off , my condolences . and yeah i first heard this song when i was 5 ,beautiful memories , not that i'm at the age of your grandfather lol i'm only 34 , but i had that taste when i was 5 , i was lucky having my cousins to introduce me to music , we had a famous collection every year for cassettes named what's now , started at 90, ended at 2000, such beautiful times ^^
Condolences to you for the loss of your grandad. But this is what real talent is all about, replicating the sound on stage just as good as you find it on the recordings. You dont get the dancers, pyrotechnics, miming, and the pre-recorded music so many modern performers are famous for. Except for maybe Joe Walsh, they dont even dress fancy, just the clothes they arrived in.
I was 10 yo when this song was on the radio. Whenever I hear any Eagles song, it fills me with overwhelming emotions of the innocence of childhood, riding shotgun with my dad in his truck, windows down, the smell of his cigarettes (hey. It was the '70s. Don't judge.). I miss him everyday . It's the small things like Hotel California that lets me close my eyed and spend a few minutes with him.
what is your age now ?? I am just 17 and my Countries First language is not English. They hardly hear english songs let alone leave Hotel california. It is such a masterpiece , hope my countrymen develop some taste of music !
I hear you but my father was not into the Eagles. I got the windows down (no AC) and cigarettes but I was on my own. This haunts me every time I play it.
That was such a beautiful description of the era of this song. 8 track tape, my mom's car. We used to drive 1000 miles from LA back home to Northern California several times a year. This song. Night. Windows open. Me and my brothers and sisters all singing it together.
I understand that good musicians can play guitar while singing but how on earth you can play drums and sing at the same time?!? Henley does great job! :-)
Been an Eagles fan since there was a band called Eagles, when Glen Frey, Don Henley and Bernie Leadon were backing up Linda Rondstat. The addition of Don Felder and Joe Walsh took the Eagles to heights I'm not sure they would've reached without them.
So much talent on one stage at one time...Glad to see Felder and Meisner playing with the band. The sound that Felder and Walsh combined make the song...they are quite frankly irreplaceable!
Without Joe Walsh this band would still be just a minor country -rock band, when they brought in.....or should I say when the band joined Joe Walsh, it made them Rock Super Star Ledgen's. When you see an Eagles concert, you get two shows, The Eagles and a Joe Walsh concert too.
@@ogr7771 that's to harsh to say that mate, a group of talented musicians, each with a unique talent, I dont agree with your comment at all, joe was brilliant as well but they all blended as a fantastic band.
@@mcfcguvnors I think we can "forgive" that. Most people will not even notice. Most bands are not around for decades. And if they are, they can't match what they did when they were younger
Only a legendary group like Eagles can replicate a studio recording flawlessly in front of a live audience and do so many times over the years. Simply amazing. RIP Glen.
I feel the song in every cell of my body , amazing , outstanding, incredible awesome, a masterpiece, maybe the greatest creation of the rock and roll ! I first listened to Eagles in 1981 when I was 6 years old, my mother and I were passing by a music store and told her to stop for a while , I had seen , a poster of the Eagles , there were some people buying records and at the same time Hotel california was being played in the stereo of the shop . That was my first memory , when I fell in love with The Eagles. I love the acousric version too . Lotta of love . ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is truly one of the extremely few songs I just never get sick of listening to. I just find it so amazing that Don Henley can play the drums and sing at the same time.
WOW!!!!!! I'm 75 years-old, and as a long time Eagles fan, this gave me goose bumps ON my goose bumps!!! DAMN!!!! That live performance sounded better than the version recorded in the studio! No 'lip-syncing' here boys and girls! WHAT A GREAT BAND! Hotel California is one of the greatest songs ever, not just in rock 'n' roll! That guitar riff at the end by Don Felder and Joe Walsh is worth the price of admission to an Eagles concert!!!! I have to say that Joe Walsh helped make me an Eagles fan with his Fender Telecaster.
I'm proud to say Im 44 years old and thanks to my 8th grade teacher who Introduced my class to this gem. Its been stuck with me ever since. What a classic. Just an amazing song.
I have to limit how many times I allow myself to watch these amazing performances, because I can only handle being completely blown away every week or so, and this song has got be my all time favorite, just ahead of Zeppelin's "When the levee breaks", any one of handful of Pink Floyd songs, and any thing off of Sabbath's "We sold our souls for rock and roll". There are just too many amazing songs by various artists from that era, but this one's the creme de la creme and what an amazing time to be alive. I have a younger brother your age, and I made damn sure the he became well acquainted with the music that he missed while he being generated in my parents yearnings for one more child before they were too old to have another. I think it's our civic duty to ensure that the youth at least gets exposed to this amazing music so they can properly judge for themselves what is worth their time and what isn't, just like my oldest brother forced me to listen to his entire library of the Beatles albums when I was 8-9 years old, so I had some musical knowledge before I started ignorantly yapping on about the Bay City Rollers and KISS. The Eagles were the quintessential 'everyday's average man's music' suppliers, but they were far from being 'average everyday musicians'. When I imagine the definition of artists, The Eagles always appear as the default image in my head.
Tanti saluti dall'Italia 🤗
Right on . Don and Glen also played in a band with Linda Ronstadt and lived above Jackson Brown. Brown helped Frye learn the fine points of writing music . Great story on the beginnings of this band. Then their is also Glens good friend Bob Seiger
Arguably one of the best songs ever written. You hear the intro and you’re immediately mesmerized. The Eagles were a huge part of the soundtrack of my younger years. That’s the beauty of music , a song can take you back to the place and time that made you who are. I’m 69 years old now and memories have become something I treasure. RIP, Glen Frye and thanks for the music.

The brilliance of these great musicians is unmistakably the performance of a lifetime. 👏. Just imagine being there when these guys were coming up with the tune to this never-ending timeless, great classic song. "Eagles" you guys will always be at the top of the very best.
I saw the Hotel California tour back in April on Long Island. They still sound exactly the same. It was amazing. They played the entire album front to back, had two mini vignettes to start the first and second sides of the album, and then greatest hits. Cannot recommend seeing that tour more
This song never dies!!! One of the best songs in history!! Pure talent is when you can play drums at it's best and sing. Old school talent and art is the type of art the never gets old or dies!
Don Henley is an amazing vocalist, and a solid drummer, but it's no harder to play drums and sing than it is to play guitar and sing, or keyboards, or bass. When you are an experienced player, the inclusion of an instrument does not change the abilities.
@@milhouserockband I think you're right in that it's equal in difficulty to play any instrument and sing at the same time because what you've got to do is learn how to separate the two, and after that it's fairly 'easy'. However, one challenge you have when you're drumming while singing is that your movements are a lot bigger and include the whole body, which can affect your voice in the same way singing while dancing can

Strum the chords on my guitar. Even try at the solo on my electric. Can never get it as smooth as Don Felder and Joe Walsh. It was effortless for them.
I know this sounds silly. I've now watched this oh a thousand, ten, who knows how many times? Is that the most beautiful shirt ever worn by a rock drummer?
It's pristine! It's starched well enough that he could take it off and stand it up in his closet like a statue, and it's white as the Arctic snow. I agree. That shirt is a work of art in and of itself.@@nicktecky55

This is the Eagles GREATEST song of all time. Don Henley’s vocals are masterful, Don Felder is a guitar genius and Joe Walsh is the Picasso of the guitar. Let’s not forget the trademark AMAZING Eagles’ harmonies.
Desperado, Wasted Time, Life in The Fast Lane, All night Long, Lyin' Eyes, Seven Bridges Road all come to mind come to mind. . . Most recognizable Yes, but Greatest. . . . I don't know. . .
People....I hope you realize how precious this event was...It is the only time ever you will see and hear this "one of a kind" Band perform together! My bucket list item. God Bless You All. Keep rocking, Eagles!
What a brilliant piece of music.... Don Felder created the music for this altime classic.... The Eagles incredible harmonies just give you goosebumps no matter how many times you listen. Younger generations who listen quickly realize they missed out on some of the best bands/music/lyrics/riffs/..... ever! It's not too late to appreciate them...
There are certain lyrics in various songs that stay with you forever, but, 'you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave' sits right at the top of the chart. Spine tingling.
And the connotation of the line is much more sadder than how it is written For me it talks about our day-to-day struggles and worries, and how you can 'always check out' eg. (Drinking and partying) to first-aid but 'never leaving' meaning after 'the escape' YOU STILL have to go back and deal with your problem like an adult 😔😔
agreed. for those of us that experienced the seventies and eighties in California it is a bittersweet reminder of the glory long gone from our promised land. a truly great time to have been here.
A true master piece. It's sad that musicians nowadays are not as keen as this guys were when it came to song writing. This is a really well written piece of music.
It's not a problem of the musicians nowadays but the complete fucking music industry. I believe that very good young musicians exist but the music industry support/creates only shit like Bieber etc. Music which no one will listen 50 years later. Today mainstream music isn't art. No wonder because the music itself isn't in the foreground. Performances like in the Circus is more important than the music and thats one of the problems of the music industry.

No matter how much time and distance or other reasons separates you from people you care about, they are always with you.
maybe if you reach out to try to find him your friendship might pick up again?

Perhaps the single greatest guitar solo in all of music. Not just the notes, but the nuances in between the notes at the end of each, played by 2 masters. It's just....the greatest. Thanks Joe and Don.

For me it talks about our day-to-day struggles and worries, and how you can 'always check out' eg. (Drinking and partying) to first-aid but 'never leaving' meaning after 'the escape' YOU STILL have to go back and deal with your problem like an adult 😔😔
BEST SONG EVER WRITTEN.
agreed. for those of us that experienced the seventies and eighties in California it is a bittersweet reminder of the glory long gone from our promised land. a truly great time to have been here.

I don't think a classic song like this will ever be released again.
So True !! 🤗✌💕
I’m 21 years old and my mom just showed me this song and I can honestly say it’s one off the most beautiful songs I ever heard and the live version is better. The guitar solo is amazing 🔥🔥🔥🔥 got this on repeat. Rocking this 2022 til beyond
There is a whole World of amazing in front, if you look behind and produce it ...70 - 80- 90's were the finest of the best
think it's awesome that young people like yourself are getting into classic rock! I'm 60 and this is the music of my youth. If you like this song I bet you'll also enjoy other Eagles stuff. Someone else here said there's a whole world of amazing music from this era and they are absolutely right! Explore, explore, explore!
Amazing era with amazing music.

45 years later and it’s still musically brilliant. Their musical discipline as a group is virtually unparalleled.

One of the greatest song in human history...a masterpiece for all humanity till the world will last
The greatest song ever written.
Think that’s a touch over the top mate! But still if it makes you feel good go for it, but with respect, it doesn’t make it true, unless you live in a cave?
Yeah it's really not THAT good. It's a classic, but one of hundreds.
THIS ONE AFTER PINK FLOYD: ANOTHER BRICK ON THE WALL.

Saw their concert with my dad and brother earlier this year. One of the best gigs I've ever been to! They just sound so good, it's ridiculous!
I'll never tire of listening to this.
Don Felder’s guitar tone sounds sooooo good….he and Joe sounded great….Joe makes me smile….you can tell the music is in his soul. I like the little guitar harmony between Don and Glenn right before the solo…..& of course, Henley’s voice and drumming are top notch….
Thats not Don Felder. Don Henley, Glenn Frey R.I.P., and Randy Meisner, but not Don Felder
THE BEST SONG EVER MADE.
@@x101st Not sure what you are watching, but Felder is playing here.
@@x101st That's clearly Don Felder on the 2-neck. Cheers!
@@x101st The one the only Don Felder. Felder did such a good job writing this song as Guitar, Drums, etc. Don Henley and Glenn Fry wrote the words to the song.
